Should we share itunes store account if we use home sharing?

Right now, my children and I share an itunes store account, but it is getting hard to manage their itunes gift cards this way. Should I just bite the bullet and have them each get their own account? How will this affect home sharing? Do we just have to authorize multiple itunes store accounts on all the computers or does that even matter now that the content is no longer copy-protected. I only have some copy-protected items on the one original account and it is quite a bit of money to upgrade them so I would rather not do that. How would this work with syncing devices?

No home sharing does not delete anything.  It does exactly what it says it does, it shares your music library with others and vise versa.  I use it all the time in my home, and works perfectly.  All it does is wirelessly adds music to your music library that you are able to play.  Do you need help setting up iTunes Home Sharing?
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with,
Cheers,
Allen

  • How many different Apple TVs can I share one iTunes Store account with?

I currently have one AppleTV at my home, and one at my mothers home. We both share the same iTunes Store account, therefore we share the movies that each other purchase. I am interested in getting my father and my aunt and Apple TV as well, I want them to also be able to use my iTunes Store account. That way, if say my father and I both want to watch the same movie, we can split the cost.
I also currently own an iPhone, and an iPad. I'm going to be getting my mother and father iPads as well. I want them to be able to use my iTunes Store account on those devices as well, and be able to stream movies on them.
I know it says that your iTunes Store account can only be associated with 10 devices, but I'm wondering where Apple TVs fit into that stance. It's probably a stupid question, but I was just curious if the fact that it is iCloud changes anything.
Essentially, I'm wondering if four Apple TVs, three iPads, one iPhone, and my one desktop computer can all stream my iCloud movie content, simultaneously. I doubt there will ever be more than two or three going simultaneously, but I just want to know the limitations before I buy these gifts for my family members and run into an unpleasant surprise.
    Thank you for your time,
    Charles

as many as you can other computers with itunes accessing the shared ituned lib
likely the limitation is the network bandwidth more then number of connected devices

  • Can multiple iTunes Store accounts be linked to one iTunes Library

Hi there! I'm having trouble getting a clear answer to this question. If I'm being confusing, forgive me. We are a family of three with two iPod Touches and one older iPod. We recently purchased a new iMac and I migrated our common iTunes Library to the Mac. We won't be using to PC anymore. There are three separate accounts on the Mac but all of them point to the same iTunes Library.
Up until now, we have been using my Apple ID/iTunes Store account for all purchases. I would like to set up a separate iTunes store account for my daughter so she can use all the gift cards she gets to make her own purchases. *If I give her a separate iTunes Store account, can whatever she purchases go into our common library?* I don't want to her to lose access to all the apps and music we have already accumulated.
If both accounts can download content to the same library, can I expect any problems when I sync the different iPods? All of them are set up to sync manually so that we can choose which music playlists, movies and apps go to which device. Will my daughter have to sync her iPod twice -- logging each iTunes store account once -- to get all her content? Are there problems with updating apps?
Sorry this is so long! I keep getting the same answer from an Apple tech via e-mail but it doesn't address the exact points of my concerns! Thanks for any help you can provide.

We have several macs, several ipods, a couple of iphones, several itunes store accounts. So far no problem. You might have to share passwords if you want to share content. I think iStore accounts can only be used on up to 5 computers. We have 7, so have to be a little careful about that. I don't think there is a limit on how many iDevices can be used with one account. I also don't think there is a limit on how many accounts can be used on a single computer (might be wrong about that). You have to be logged into the iStore to download content, and your computer has to be registered with the account to use the content, but once it is on, and registered, syncing to an iPod is not a problem (you do not have to login in again for each account the content was purchased from). I'm just glad I only have two kids, and one wife - things could get trickier in a big family with . . .

  • Question about multiple computers on one iTunes Store account

I have an iPad which I need to sync with several (actually 8) different Macs around the country. This is the nature of the work I'm doing at the moment. I plan to set all 8 Macs to the same iTunes Store account. I don't need to authorise them to play music or video, but I do want to be able to transfer content and apps I purchase so that I can backup the iPad whichever office I happen to visit. If I purchase an app in one office, presumably I can download it again for free on any of the other Macs should I need to. Understand that this is purely so that I can sync and backup in multiple locations without losing my apps or content.
Does anyone know if what I'm proposing will work? Is the "Authorized Computer" limit purely a limit on playing back content in iTunes? Or will I be prevented from syncing my apps and content on more than 5 computers?

What is not yet clear is quite how the new rules square up with the old rules that one account can be authorized on up to five computers and up to five accounts authorized on any one device.
Unless I'm much mistaken I think you can backup an iPad/iPhone on any computer running iTunes without authorizing it to any of the individual accounts that may have been used for purchased content on it first, although transferring purchased content from the device to the computer does require prior account authorization.
Since you can re-download apps at any time and, at least if you are in the US, now re-download previously purchased music, I think you should be fine. Thought I'd still suggest that it might be easier to take a portable version of your library with you than set up eight independent instances of iTunes.

  • HT4137 I have two iPad's that use the same iTunes/store account. I want the two devices to play games with with other, but it recognizes them as the same. I have set up two different iCloud accounts, but still not recognizing the users as different. What

Hello, I have no idea if my question went out, so I'll post it again. I have two iPads (one 3rd gen and one 4th) that use the same iTunes/store account. I want the two devices to game with each other, but the apps recognize them as the same. I have created two different iCloud accounts in an attempt to differentiate between the two, but no luck. How can I continue to use the same iTunes/store account for music and movies, but also have the two devices recognize each other for games?

You can share your iTunes ID and still have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs, they don't have to be the same.  If you kids don't already have an iCloud account, have them set up separate accounts on their devices using separate IDs.  If they are already sharing your account, migrate their devices to separate accounts.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos they wish to keep to ther camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward pointing arrow), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  If they are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to them so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in their new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from thier device and won't effect your device), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone (if using iOS 7).  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create their new account and choose Merge to upload the data.  Once everyone is on a separate account you can go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into each account separately and delete your data from their account.

  • Itunes store account changed

Some years  ago I had my itunes store account under a mindspring.com email account name.  When I purchased a new iMac, I also had changed emails so my itunes store account was established under that gmail account name.  All the songs I purchased under mindspring account continue to show as  kind "protected AAC audio file" and "Protected MPEG-4 video" for music videos.  I am able to play songs purchased with either account on my iMac, but these songs do not play as part of my "Home Sharing" file.  When I try to play on my husband's iMac we get "This device is not authorized...if you want...enter password for the mindspring account."
How can I get the songs into my gmail account library so I can share with the other devices?

Thank you for your reply.  Using your suggestion I was able to authorize the computer but I still needed to find a way to remove restrictions on the music (DRM?)
Anyway, after a lot of frustration, signed out of my iTunes account then back in with the mindspring account>itune store>itunes+  where I can pay per song to have it removed.
You probably could have told me this but I wasn't able to communicate what I really needed to do. It's difficult to address a question you haven't been asked!

  • How do i change my Itunes store account?

How do I change my Itunes store account details or change to another country?

If you are now in another country then you will need to update the billing address on your account (and if using a credit card that will need to have been issued by a bank in your new country and be registered to your new address), which you should be able to do via your computer's iTunes (Store > View Account menu option) or by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your iPad and logging into to it. You won't be able to change countries if you have iTunes Match, outstanding rentals or season passes or have a balance on your account - you will need to contact iTunes Support to get the balance removed : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/
If you are getting a 'not in this country' message when trying to download items from the stores on your iPad then yry going to the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on it and tap on your account id, tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account, and then select the Country/Region section and select your country.

  • How do I remove my old iMac from my App Store and iTunes Store accounts?

Before I sold my friend my old iMac, I used the Migration Assistant to transfer all her files from her MacBook Pro to the iMac. I then deleted all my files. My old iMac and her MacBook Pro were both upgrated to Mavericks before the Migration.
Now, she is being prompted to download and install the updates for Numbers and Pages on what used to be my iMac, but the App Store displays my account identification and asks for my password.
    (1) How can I delete my old iMac from my App Store and iTunes Store accounts?
    (2) How can she access the App Store and iTunes Store using her own accounts?
    Thanks in advance.

That isn't how to prepare a Mac to sell or give away. You should deauthorize your iTunes account on the Mac. Call Apple Care and have the Mac disassociated from your Apple ID. Then erase the Mac and install the latest version of OS X that shipped installed on the Mac using the Install DVD or OS X Recovery, depending on what version shipped on the Mac. Until you do this, the Mac, OS X and the iLife apps belong to you. She will need to buy the iWork apps for herself, using her own account. You cannot pass any apps that you bought on to her, that would be piracy.

  • I can no longer access my itunes store account

When I try to log into my itunes store account information, I keep getting this weird error message that says:
We could not complete you iTunes store request. An unknown error has occurred (5002).
There was an error in the itunes store. Please try again later.
It's been doing this for about a week now. I've already changed my password and I still can't get anything to work. I have a different account and it will allow me to log in, but this one will not.
    Any ideas?
    biggzipp

Since your other account will work, it's probably a problem on the iTunes Store end of things. Contact the iTunes Store customer service group through the form at the bottom of their web page and explain the problem to them. They should be able to help you sort out the problem with your account login.
    Good luck.

  • How do I combine 2 iTunes store accounts into one library?

I bought a new iMac and I want to combine my iTunes store account with my wife's. How do I move her whole library onto the new iMac and combine it with my existing library and have everything playable for each of our separate users (and for syncing our iPhones) on this machine? Thanks for your help!

so I end up with just ONE iTunes store account that my wife and I share.
You cannot combine iTunes store accounts. iTunes support cannot do this. You can combine purchases and libraries into a single library.
When you make a purchase, the iTunes account info is embedded into the file and this cannot be changed.
Just quit using one of the accounts and both of you use a single iTunes account.

  • He iTunes Store account entered is already being used for an iTunes Connect account that distributes Apps

I am getting the following message when trying to sign up with iTunesConnect for selling our companies eBooks.
"The iTunes Store account entered is already being used for an iTunes Connect account that distributes Apps. To continue with this application, you must enter a different iTunes account."
The email account I am using is not being used for distributing apps. We need to sell ebooks.
We DO have a developer account to sell apps but it is a different email address (confirmed).
How should I go about getting this straitened so we can get into iTunesConnect?

That worked, thank you very much! The Apple support document is quite misleading then.

  • Itunes Store Account ??? Help

I have just recently bought an ipod nano, and want to get album art for my songs. It says that you have to have an itunes store account, but when i try to creat one, it needs a credit card, is it possible to create an account without a credit card???

This is what worked for me.
When it asks your for your iTunes account, try typing in the username/password that you have for the discussion boards. So it would be adam067, followed by the email server ie yahoo.com, hotmail.com etc, and then the passowrd you use to log-in.
iTunes should then say 'this is not set up for itunes etc' and take you through several set-up screens, and the credit card screen should be skipped.

  • Move old iTunes Store account over to new MobileMe account

I currently have two iTunes accounts, one linked to my old Hotmail email and the second one is connected to my MobileMe. At the moment, all purchases done with my iPhone are linked to that Hotmail account, which I'm trying to close down.
Is there a way to copy/move/merge the information in the hotmail account, and switch it over to my MobileMe account?
    Many thanx in advance

First, I don't think simply closing the e-mail account means that you must close the iTunes account. The e-mail address is simply your ID for the iTunes Store account. (And I believe you should be able to change the e-mail address associated with the account so that you still receive receipts, etc. This seems to vary, though. Some users are able to change this while others are not.)
Second, this question has been asked before, and the general response has been that it's not possible. But others have suggested contacting store support. You can reach them here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/. Also...the following link has a question about consolidating Apple IDs. It might prove useful: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37

  • Cannot acces itunes store account or download anything

I am using iTunes 8. I cannot access my itunes store account settings, download anything at all (even if its free). The same problem is on my ipod touch (2.1 FW). What is going on? Do i need to open up a new port for iTunes 8? I have tried restoring my iPod, re-installing iTunes, and restarting my computer with no success. Help!

I have found out that I can sign out successfully by going to store -> sign out. When I sign back in though iTunes just hangs on "Accessing iTunes Store". I cannot create another account either! This is incredibly annoying. What should i do?
