Should you convert footage anyway from a 7d?

I have been experiencing fcpx running VERY slow. This next project will be saved on an external drive and I'll convert the footage from my Canon 7d like I had to do in fcp 7.
Any thoughts out there...
Monty

Hi Ironi,
MTR is just for "ripping" any copy protection on a commercial... HB does so either PLUS it converts into lossy mpeg4...
you're goal, to make DVD content editable can only be reached by converting the footage into "dv".
there are many tools on the market doing so, the mentioned Streamclipper (free, but you need addtionally the Apple mpeg2 plugin for 20$...)
for a beginner, I recommend DVDxDV, it has a 30d trial period (testdrive sets a watermark)... and costs 25$.
for sure, ANY converting of a DVD is lossy, because the format of the DVD itself is lossy... I know, it doesn't look so on TV, but in technical terms it is... don't judge the quality of conversion on your Mac's screen... as you know, pic quality can only be judged on TV....
hope, that helps..........

Probably the easiest way to do this is to download a free media convertor. Most will be able to convert video into audio files.

  • How do you convert this code from AS3 to AS2?

    Hi,
I created some AS3 code that is working perfectly for us.
However now we need to convert it to AS2 so that it can be Flash
Player 8 compatible. If it could also be compatible for Flash
Player 7 that would be ideal but not a requirement.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you wanting someone to do the conversion for you, or are
you asking for general tips for doing the conversion yourself?
    i can give you tips:
    have a look at the
    ActionScript
    2.0 Migration page.
In this you'll find the property conversions eg(going from
AS3 to AS2). y becomes _y, height becomes _height, scaleX becomes
    _xscale, void becomes Void etc.
you'll find that events need to be converted, eg.
    particle.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,
    animateParticle);
    becomes:
    particle.onEnterFrame=animateParticle;
the onEnterFrame class doesn't pass an Event parameter to the
event listener. Instead, the event listener is automatically in the
scope of the event dispatcher, so instead of 'event.target' you
will be able to just target 'this'.
You'll need to use setInterval() instead of the Timer class.
You'll need to use attachMovie() instead of
    addChild().

  • Which devise should you delete your photos from first? iPhone or iPad?

Because of iCloud, if I delete my photos on one device they still stay on the other then end back up on my phone--you would think it would do the reverse.
On my macbook pro, 10.10.1, I do not use iPhoto, I just keep my pictures in a separate file. I have duplicated photos everywhere...help!

Remember that you should not store photos on iCloud. It's time and capacity limited. It holds up to 1,000 photos for no more than 30 days. So, import  no. 1001 and the first one is dumped. Leave them untouched and they will be deleted from iCloud after 30 days.
You can't delete individual photos from iCloud (only reset the whole thing) so trashing from a device will not trash from iCloud.

  • How do you convert a movie from .mov to .jpeg or a format compatible with non iOS computers?

I created a movie on iMovie that I would like to share with family members through a flash drive.  The problem is is that they don't have iOS computers.  How do I convert my movie in iMovie from .mov to a file compatible with other computers?  Thank you

Yes, normally the whole point of making it an XFA is so you can type in it. You must use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to fill it.
    What happens when you try?

  • CD burning - (mp3 files) should you convert to AIFF (for quality)

    Hello
With regard to eg iTunes mp3 songs for copying to CD.
For the best sound quality, do you keep them as mp3, or select conversion to AIFF, (ie at the burning stage).
Obviously AIFF is better quality, but I do not know if an mp3 converted to AIFF is better than an mp3 which is unchanged.
    Thanks

Converting an MP3 to AIFF will just give you a larger file in a different format, it won't restore any quality to the track. Information is lost during the conversion to MP3 in the first place and that information cannot be added back. If you burn your MP3 playlist to an Audio CD the files will automatically be converted to AIFF and you'll be able to play that CD in a regular player, that's the only advantage there is, the tracks won't sound any better (and probably no worse).

  • How do you convert a file from .mov to .avi in quicktime pro

I'm using a kodak Z50 digital camera that records video files as .mov files. I was told I could convert the files to .avi files using quicktime pro, but I can't figure out how to do it. Anyone know?

I am assuming you already are able to open the movie
in QT Player. Use Export in the File menu, choose
Movie to Avi in the drop-down Export Menu and then
click on Options to choose one of the pre-loaded avi
codecs for the compression. You may also want to
search for and install one of the newer codecs, such
as 3ivx or divx since the preinstalled codecs are all
    rather old.

Thanks for the help. It worked, but the quality of the video is poor. Is there anything I can do about this?

  • Edit footage shot from canon 60D

    Hi,
I am new to dslr video shooting. I want to edit the footage I shot with the canon 60D. I have some problems withe settings. I know that canon 60D shot in h264 so I have converted my footage to apple prores 422 (HQ)...I was wondering what setting should I set for the easy set up? I am not sure what should I set. I shot the footage in 1920 24p. And also, if i finish edting, do i just use the quicktime conversion and export the video to h264 again? or there is other setting? thanks!

That was overkill for the video produced by your camera. If you are using a recent edition of Final Cut Studio, you could have chosen Pro Res LT which would have given equal picture quality/FCP compatibility, in much less disk space.
I was wondering what setting should I set for the easy set up?
You don't need to worry about Easy Set Up as that is primarily designed to assist in the setup to capture material from tape.
Create a project, import you converted footage, and the first time you drag or edit an imported clip to your timeline, FCP will offer to match your sequence settings to your source footage. Say Yes and you should be ready to go.
And also, if i finish edting, do i just use the quicktime conversion and export the video to h264 again?
The answer to this depends on how you intend to use your edited video - are you planning on posting it on the web? The end use will dictate what format you convert your edited footage to.

  • Converting the videos (from Vixia HF M40) to standard definition on a Mac (10.6 OS X)

How do you convert the videos (from Vixia HF M40) to standard definition, for the Mac computers (10.6 OS X)?

    Hi venetiakelley!
    Thank you for posting.
Canon does not make conversion software, but there are 3rd party applications available that do convert video files from one format to another.  You can try doing an internet search for applications that will convert from one format to another.
However, there should not be a need to convert the video to a standard definition format to be able to view it on your Mac.  Even Apple's own iMovie should support the files that come from the VIXIA HF M40 depending on the version you have installed.  If you are using iMovie and experiencing some trouble opening the files, I recommend that you contact Apple directly for further assistance with iMovie.  They may have some more information about the trouble you are experiencing.

  • I'm a bit confused. Since my original camera format was 720/60p, and I converted the footage to Pro Res422 in order to edit in Final Cut Pro 7, should I convert back to a higher quality format before sending the file to DVD Studio Pro?

I'm a bit confused. Since my original camera format was 720/60p, and I converted the footage to Pro Res422 in order to edit in Final Cut Pro 7, should I convert back to a higher quality format before sending the file to DVD Studio Pro? If so, which Compressor codec is best to use in order to preserve the original 720/60p?   How do I maintain the highest quality?

No...ProRes is a high quality format. Finishing format.  Many TV networks take that as a final deliverable.
BUT...DVDs aren't high definition...they are SD.  You cannot make a 720p60 DVD with DVD Studio Pro.  Any DVD you make will be SD...720x480.  The only HD DVD format out there is BluRay, and for that you need a BluRay burner.
As for making a high quality DVD...using the BEST QUALITY settings in Compressor will work:
#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it and select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the browser and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing.  Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps.  Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

  • Should I convert what I did from DVCPro HD codec to ProRes?

I'm new to this so forgive me for my ignorance...
I've been editing HD video footages shot in PANASONIC HVX200 P2, shot in 23.976fps... Now that I'm almost done, I've been talking to a lot of people (including COLORISTS that I spoke to). They are asking why I did not use APPLE PRORES 422.
QUESTION: Should I convert what I did from DVCPro HD codec to ProRes? If YES, what's the easiest way for me to do this without starting from scratch. Is there an easy step in FCP that I can do to recapture from my RAW P2 files? If there is a way, will my existing sequences work fine if I just recapture raw files?
    WHAT I HAVE:
    RAW P2: from Panasonic HVX
    Editing: Final Cut Pro 7
A/V FCP preset settings: DVCPRO HD 1080pa24
BTW, everything is fine with what I have but a couple of people I spoke with said I'll have better quality using Apple ProRes. Doing some test stuff, I noticed DVCPRO HD captures in 1280x1080, AND if I capture from APPLE PRORES it's 1440x1080. Since I'm not an expert on this, I'm not sure if the difference would be beneficial to what I'm doing.
I'm working on an indie digital movie hopefully for digital projection.
    Thanks for the help!

First just a wee bit of advice .. you say in your post that you have FCP 7 - this is the FCPX forum you will always get faster maybe even better responses if you post in the Final Cut Studio forum which includes FCP 7. That said ..I will try to help ..
Your HVX200 captures onto the P2 card as DVCPRO HD (4:2:2) which is a compressed format not really intended to be an editing friendly codec .. (better than many others but still not ideal). When you ingest it into FCP 7 the Log and Transfer window has a wee preference tab in which you can set the codec .. I would use ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (LT) if space is an issue. The incoming 'Transfer' is then decompressed and coded to ProRes 422 .. The main advantage is the ease of edit with no loss of quality.

hello, is there a way to redact a word or item from a pdf using adobe pro X the same way you can if you convert a word doc using pro X on a pc?

If the document is not a scanned image or protected from editing then you should be able to edit it. I would have to guess you have a scan and when you converted to Word, you ran OCR (Optical Character Recognition) on it converting the scanned image to live text.
This is the forum for the free Adobe Reader which can not edit or redact.

  • How would/should you invoke a javascriptable applet from WDA or WDJ?

The background to this question is here:
OK - finally a bioinformatic coding problem that may not be so easy ...
    The question is as follows.
Suppose you have a javascriptable applet - that is, an applet whose behavior can be tailored by passing it certain parameters from javascript.
What would the best way be to invoke the javascript from WDA or WDJ, assuming that you wanted to "pop" the applet in a separate HTML frame within tne WDA or WDJ application?

    Anton -
Glad to see you contributing again!
Well, your original comment about RasMol shamed me into doing some research into molecular viewers callable as applets.
Here are the latest responses I've gotten from Angel Herraez at Jmol.  (You might find it fun to join the Jmol project at SourceForge and also subscribe to its jmol-users list-server.)
I told Angel that here's what I want to do:
    > 1) we're in Frame1 of a portal that has two other frames in it: FrameA and
    > FrameB.
    >
    > 2) A query in Frame1 against a certain database brings back two sets of

    > 4) At the same time , the portal passes the parameters in (b) to JMol and

    > rotate capability, same as in interactive JMol;
    >
    > Is this scenario currently possible as JMol is currently written?
    He then responded:
As long as you have already set the means to communicate with the
Jmol applets in your portal system, I think it is indeed.
This is what I'd pass to Jmol in FrameA:
    load "1hru.pdb"; display *:A and 123-145;
and this to jmol in FrameB:
    load "2eqa.pdb"; display *:A and 144-167;
(you will have to adjust the loading of the pdb file depending on
    where it is located)
"display" is a better choice than the alternative, "restrict", for
reason I won't discuss now (but we can separately, if you need it)
Depending on your ways of inserting Jmol into your frames, there may
be some details to solve, but on the Jmol scripting side that's all
    needed.
    > Or would I have to settle for the portal simply invoking Jmol in FrameB
    > and again in FrameC and letting the user manipulate settings in the
    > console, as you suggest.
No, I won't suggest so, you can indeed preprogram what you want.
I also asked him about capturing the views after rotating in each frame to get the desired view of each structure, and here's his response to that:
Yes, the views can be captured to the user's computer, in a web page
(e.g. popup window) from where the user can copy or save them to
    disk, using the browser's capabilities.
If you need to "capture" to the server, I cannot say *but see below.
The discussion on how to make snapshots is quite long. There are
several mesages in the list some time ago and there are several
places that use this functionality; Bob has at least one, I dont0
remember exactly where right now, and I have a testpage/tutorial at
    http://biomodel.uah.es/Jmol/export-image/index.htm
See if you can make it from that, then ask if you need help.
    >From the screenshot, displayed inside the browser, you can save
directly to your disk in some browsers, or else copy-paste into any
image editing program (I would not recommend Powerpoint, as the
quality of saved images is poor). You get a jpeg file directly.
Now that I think of it, in fact all the trouble was getting the
server-generated image into the client browser, so there should be a
way to store the image in the server maybe.
Anyway, will you be in LasVegas?
If so, will you be at SDN Community Day?
If neither, do you have MS shareview ????
Anyway, I will be talking soon (this weekend) in the WIKI about "alignments" and how I have to use them to get the results at StrucClues (http://strucclue.ornl.gov).
This is where the really interesting and heavy regex-ing and returned html parsing is going to come in, so I hope you will remain interested long enough to solve the new propblems I am going to pose.  They will be much more related to real scripting problems - I just wanted to get this "view/rotate" issue out of the way, so that I could do an honest job at my SDN Community Day Session.
    Very best regards
