Show Apple Mail folders in iPad

I would like to know how to set up and show the various folders (Mailboxes) I have in Apple Mail. Th
Please advise.
Thanks,
Ina

This isn't immediately obvious but if you can work through a few steps there's a solution. I use this all the time to enable my folders to be visible on my computer, on gmail and on my iPhone etc. Effectively we make gmail work a little more like a normal IMAP server.
1. Open Gmail.com and go to Settings, then Labs.
2. Find "Advanced IMAP Controls" and Enable it.
3. Go into Labels (still in Settings) and observe a new setting 'Show in IMAP' beside some labels.
4. Turn this ON for every label you want to see as a folder and OFF for all the others (eg 'All Mail', 'Spam' and others that you only want access to through webmail)
Now, here you have to be careful because you may want to keep an archive of all mail on gmail, but not necessarily on your iPad or computer. I can explain why we do the next step if you want, but that may not be what you want. This is just how I manage it so that email never gets completely deleted from gmail except if I go through the webmail interface.
5. Create a new filter that will match every message, such as 'From' contains . (which is in every email address!)
6. Click 'Next step' and then 'Apply the label' and select a new label, giving it a tiny name, such as | or . so it doesn't take up much space. Also apply to all existing conversations.
7. Now go into the 'Labels' again and turn OFF 'Show in IMAP' for that label.
Hopefully that should be all you need to do to get the folders to show up in gmail. If you left All Mail in then you'd end up with duplicate copies of every message. Moving a message results in a label being deleted and a new one created. Deleting a message shouldn't delete the message completely if it has another label (such as the automatic one above) but will remove it from that folder.
I hope this is helpful.

Can I use Apple Mail on my ipad and on a pc using safari browser

You would configure the iPad to connect to your email provider's IMAP servers.  How that's done is specific to whatever mail provider you use.  If it's one of the major email services like AOL, Hotmail or Yahoo, then you should be able to just create a new mail account on the iPad and follow the instructions you see on the iPad.  If your email is not listed, then you'll need to contact your mail provider so you can know what to enter for the server name, etc.

How do I have my newest messages appear in apple mail on my iPad without having to scroll up each time

I'm not sure what you mean. My new email messages are always at the top of the preview pane at the top of the screen. However, you can quickly scroll back to the top of the screen by tapping the top of the screen above the word InBox at the top. Tap on the black part of the screen and the preview window will quickly scroll to the top.

    Hello,
Are they just regular size eMails?
Do you have more than one eMail account setup?
    Next time it happens, get...
    Find Any File...
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Hold Option or alt key when selecting Find to Find All.
Use it to Find All, for Name ends in...
    .emlx
    (dot ee em el ex)
And Modification Date, is within, the last 5 minutes or whatever.

  • How to Import Apple Mail Folders on Second User Account

I purchased a new MBP after the old one failed.  At the Apple Store I set up a User ID for the new MBP.  I then used the Migration utility later on to bring in all my data from my late MBP.  This included all my Mail folders.  Now I want to get a selection of those Mail Folders to the New User ID.  I have tried exporting a folder to a USB flash drive, told Apple Mail to import it in the new ID but without success.  Is there another way to get the selected mail folders over to the new ID?  Currently I have way too much mail on the old migrated ID.  I have been running DupeZap to try and reduce the duplicate messages but that's another story.  I just want to get the good folders (no duplicates) over to the new User ID.  I seem to recall that back with Tiger you could use a drop box or public folder to pull files/data from one user ID to another.  Is this still possible or is there another option I can try?
    Thanks for advice and guidance.

If both system are using the IMAP mail provider all you have to do is setup the connection to the mail server and all the emails and folders will be copied down to the windows computer. That is what IMAP is for. The mail stays on the server, and can be store
on the local computer also, and when you connect to the server with another device, computer, phone or pad, all the mail with folders gets copied to the other device.
But I think some of your mail was gotten using POP so it is not longer on the server.
Or you have emails in local folder only and they would be on the server. But you can create folder on the server in one mail program, or on the mail web interface and then copy those emails into those folder on the server byt copying them in one of the email
programs. Then when you log on with the other device all of them will be downloaded to the other device.
Other alternative:- You can find various solutions on having a google search
for your problem. Or you can have a look at the following link: Apple mail to Outlook Windows

  • Mail Folders On iPad

I have several folders in my two email accounts to help organize emails. In my work account, the folders appear on the iPad but are empty when I click on them. For my home email, the folders don't even appear on the iPad. Why is this, and is there even a way to organize emails on the iPad into folders? Also, if I delete an email on the iPad, why doesn't it delete from my account when I sync? When I check these accounts from my computer, those emails are still there. Thanks so much!

There are two type of mail accounts, IMAP and POP3. The IMAP accounts are designed for accessing one account from multiple places/devices. It keeps the mail synchronized in the various places. If you delete a message from one place it will be deleted from the other places too (you may have to manually access he server to see an update). Also folders are mirrored in the difference places. For a POP3 account there is no feedback. You can set one device to download messages but not delete them from the server. In that case if delete it locally it is still on he sever and thus is still there if access by other devices. Also, mail folders are not mirrored. You work account may be an IMPA account and the home one a POP3 account.

  • Syncing Apple mail folders between macs??

I would like to be able to sync the folders in the ON MY MAC section of Apple Mail on my MacBook with the Apple Mail on my iMac.
Is there a way to get iCloud to sync the changes made to these folders so they reflect new and deleted messages?

You must place the "On My Mac" mailboxes on the server for the mailboxes and messages within to be available via iCloud webmail access and with the Mail.app on each Mac.
Select and drag an "On My Mac" mailbox under the iCloud section in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer to copy the mailbox and messages within to the server.

  • TS3899 Apple mail crashing on iPad

Over the past couple of days I've tried to open my mail through the Apple app and it's crashed.

have you tried closing the mail app out of multitasking? double-click the home button to bring up recently used apps. then press and hold on the mail app until they all jiggle in the multitasking bar. press the minus sign that appears on the corner of the mail app so that it closes out of multitasking, then press the home button once to get the apps to stop jiggling. then press it again to make the home screen go back to normal. try to use the mail app like normal and let us know if it still crashes on you. if it does continue to do so, you might have to restore your device as new

  • Back up IMAP apple mail folders - then later restore...

    hi all,
    let's say ...
    - I have an imap account that gets pretty full
    - so I make a local folder called oldstuff and drag some of the oldest email from the imap inbox to the local oldstuff folder
q: this will move/delete them from the imap server and my inbox and keep only 1 copy in the oldstuff folder - correct?
    Then later I want to:
copy the oldstuff folder to a backup and..
remove the oldstuff folder - so i should quit mail and delete the mbox from
    file://localhost/Users/me/Library/Mail/
    - correct?
now in the future if I want to bring back that oldstuff folder back into mail.... DO I just copy the oldstuff folder back where it was...
    file://localhost/Users/me/Library/Mail/
and restart mail and it will work/show again?

"q: this will move/delete them from the imap server and my inbox and keep only 1 copy in the oldstuff folder - correct?"
Normally yes, depending on the setting in your IMAP and how messages are handled when moved from one folder to another.
"remove the oldstuff folder - so i should quit mail and delete the mbox from
    file://localhost/Users/me/Library/Mail/"
Highlight the mailbox in the sidebar, and choose Export Mailbox in the Menu under Mailbox.
From the Mail sidebar, right click on the mailbox and delete mailbox.
"now in the future if I want to bring back that oldstuff folder back into mail.... DO I just copy the oldstuff folder back where it was...
    file://localhost/Users/me/Library/Mail/"
Choose import mailboxes in the menu under File.
Why not just leave that mailbox it in the mail application. Local mailboxes aren't stored on the server and reside on your mac.

  • Creating file folders in iPad mail

Is it possible to create mail folders in iPad mail, or is there an app that let's you organize mail into folders

It depends on what email provider your using to make a new folder. For example I use gmail and coustum folders in gmail are called labels. Don't ask me why they are called labels... You can add a folder from the iPad and here is how to do it with gmail.
Open a new browser window in Safari...
Type in google.com in the URL address bar...
Click on Gmail in the menu...
Type in your user name and password...
When Gmail loads, look at the bottom of the page and click on basic HTML...
You can add folder (labels) in two places. From the settings (top right), label tab. Or from the  left hand column, labels, edit labels...
Add the a new label with a name...
You can add as many folders (labels) to you liking.
Click on the email icon app. If the new folder doesn't show up hit the home button and click on the email app again, the new folder should show up.
Once you have done this a few times you'll get a good workflow.
I'm sure you can do this with other email providers that let's you access your email by way of a bowser page.

  • How to export Apple Mail local folders to Outlook 2011

I just got Microsoft Outlook 2011 and need to import the (many) emails I have in local Apple Mail folders. What's the right way? I can't seem to drag the folders to the desktop (the way I can in Entourage 2008), and when I "archive" a folder, it makes a file (within a folder) that Outlook doesn't recognize as a valid MBOX file for import. What's the right way?
    thanks,
    Mike

Before you make the switch, you should consider reading about Matt Neuberg's experiences with Outlook 2011:

After reading that, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.
I know; I don't like to depend on a Microsoft product but Entourage's way of keeping everything in a single Database file, which gets corrupted all the time (and corrupted worse when it is allowed to "Repair" it!) is making me nuts. I thought at least Outlook keeps everything separately. I don't like Mail (because I hate iCal and I like the way Entourage's calendar works together with its mail), and I don't know of an open-source client that handles Exchange server. I'm kind of stuck - maybe I'll stay with Entourage and let Mail keep my old Mail archives (I need to store everything for searching, and currently have about 20 Gigs of email). If there are any alternatives, I'd love to hear them.
    thanks,
    Mike
