Show Autofocus Points

The software included with the Canon XTi ZoomBrowser EX has a nice feature missing in Lightroom, the ability to show the AutoFocus Points indicating the active and non-active points. This helps a lot explaining problems with focus/out of focus shots. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for such a definitive answer... I guess 'you can't have them all' still applies here. Will keep using both products then, that feature is quite nice to have a full idea of what I was doing while taking the picture. Thanks again, Alberto

  • Show focus points - not showing...

I'm shooting with a 1D Mark III, and when I select "show focus points" not seeing the focus points...
Is this supposed to actually show where my focus point was on the shot(s)
That would be very helpful. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know what Kirby is talking about. He seems to be answering someone else's question.
It reads pretty clearly to me.
The camera has a sensor.  Additionally, it has an array of focus-sensors that are fixed in position relative to the main sensor.  Which of these focus-sensors was used by the auto-focus system to determine the focusing distance is what is displayed by the feature under discussion.
The point I'm trying to make is that the "focus point" in the discussion refers to which exact focus-sensors in the camera were used to achieve auto-focus.  Unless your camera and your subject did not move between the time of focus-lock and the time of exposure, there will not be an exact correspondence between the spot on the sensor that is associated with that focus and what is depicted under that spot in the image.
In my practice, I find it much more awkward and time-consuming to select a focus point while the shot is framed than it is to focus with the central cross-type focus-sensors, lock focus, and then frame the exposure.  So for me -- and I think many others -- knowing which focus-sensor was used by the auto-focus system doesn't tell me anything:  there is no correspondence between the focus-sensor used and the image.
In the linked blog post, the author shows an image with the selected focus-sensor super-imposed over the model's upper eyelid.  IME, it is assuming too much to assume that the autofocus system used that spot on the model's face when it determined the focusing distance.
There are programs that will analyze the actual image and attempt to show what parts of the image are in sharpest focus.  Aperture does not do that.
This is -- as I indicated -- tangent to the OP's question.  But the way s/he worded the question made me think that s/he things there is a certain one-to-one correspondence between the focusing-sensor used and the objects depicted under that focusing-sensor when it is superimposed over the image.  There is not.  I found that important to know, and so I pass it along.

  • TS2518 I have Aperture 3.1.2 running on os 10.6.8. Aperture does not show focus points on my Nikon D7100, nor does it recognize the RAW files. Will upgrading Aperture allow me to see the focus points and RAW files again? Also, do I need to upgrade my os f

I have aperture 3.1.2 running on os 10.6.8 mac book pro. Lost some features in aperature when I upgraded my camera (no longer shows focus points, does not recognize RAW files) Would like to upgrade to aperture 3.5, but do not want to loose any pictures in my extensive library. Do I have to upgrade one vesion at a time, or can I jump? I believe I also need to upgrade my os, but not sure which to do first?  Any help would be appreciated...

    1. Can I get Icloud without having to upgrade to OS Lion?
    Nope, you need 10.7.
    2. If I upgrade to OS Lion, does this automatically put me onto ICloud
No, you set that up yourself.
    3. I have three mobile me email addresses. One for myself, one for my wife and one I use for my business. What happens to these.
You can convert them to be used in iCloud.
    4. My wife and I also use mobile me to sync our calendars across an Ipad (original) and two Iphones (3Gs). Both Iphones and Ipad are still currently using IOS4, and I am reluctant to upgrade this to IOS 5 as I have heard some horror stories. If I fail to upgrade to IOS 5, will this create confusion with my Apple ID's. (There already is a lot of confusion with these- Apple appear to not have down their homework)
If you don't change the settings you have now, I'm sure it will stay working.  I believe Apple is phasing out MobileMe and you'd be forced to upgrade eventually.
    5. Will Icloud allow me to transfer my Icalendar across seamlessly? This is Ical 4.04 whic came with my Imac. Does this get upgraded if I update to Lion?
Yes, it will get upgraded.  I have my calendar on Lion and my iPhone 5.0.1 working seamlessly at the moment.  That doesn't mean you won't have problems because with new technology that can be expected.  Make sure you do a back up if you're worried about losing data.

  • Braille display not showing bullet points in pages.

I'm trying to help out a blind friend of mine. She has a mac, and needs to use a word processor on a daily basis. The problem is that her braille display doesn't show bullet points, and text properties such as italic or bold. She has tried openoffice, but there, VoiceOver doesn't say anything, probably because it uses a different UI kit.

I would recommend trying TextEdit and Nisus Writer as well, as sometimes these are superior to Pages.

  • Problem with showing focus points in 3.5.1 & 10.9

I cannot always display the focus points either by using Option + F or View > Show Focus Points on my MBP, late 2012.
Prior to 3.5.1 & 10.9, either one of these commands would always display or remove, the focus points.
At times I can restore the focus point display by either closing and opening Aperture or by rebooting OS X.  Today, nothing restores this function.
Anyone else with this problem or hopefully know of a solution?
    Thanks,  Bill
FWIW Apple, where is Aperture 4??

    Clem
There is some data in Console.ap, the latest being about 45 minutes ago.  With a filter set for APERTURE there are several references to :
"12/3/13 2:53:02.038  Aperture[1324]: The function `CGContextClear' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance."
and a 13 inch screen full of generally single items.  I do not know how to read / use this info.
After your message, I went to Aperture and used Option + F, View > Show Focus Points and moused over the small icon representing focal points in the upper right hand corner of the inspector with the info tab selected (just under the JPEG icon) several times but that did not generate any new data in Console.ap.
Hope this is what you were refering to.

  • Show focus point doesnt work

when i put on show focus points it does not show me(( what can i do it will be work??

Definatlely have the same issue.  When I import in iPhoto and go back to Aperture they're gone.  If I import in Aperture, they're there.
I would think this is just some exif data that iPhoto shouldn't touch?
So much for fully sharing libraries/functionality.

  • Show focus points not available

My pictures used to all have the option of showing the focus points in Aperture. I would click on the icon for focus points to toggle it on and off.
Starting last year the icon for the focus points is not even there under the Info tab (same camera and lenses). i just received a new camera body but same lenses.
Pictures still do not have the icon for Focus Points. Going to the menu and choosing "show focus points" does no good because the icon is not there (but the icon for jpeg/raw, metering, and wb are there). if i go to some old pictures the icon is there for the old pictures.
i re-downloaded the program, trashed the preference files, etc.
Camera- Canon 40D, Canon 7D mii. Lenses CAnon 17-55 f/2.8 and Canon 70-200 f/4, non IS.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Terry

I just checked one of my photos in Aperture for you..... it is the only reason I've kept aperture to be honest! Mine still works on my raw photo which is from a 5dmiii. I'm in the process tho of moving all my photos to external hard drives and only keeping current photos on laptop due to storage issues. I'm also switching to Bridge, ACR and PSCC. But when I open projects from Aperture off of hard drive I get a message that says I need to upgrade library and opens in Aperture. I don't want to be bound to Aperture anymore. What if I don't have Aperture on next Mac? So not how do I get my photos unhostaged? Sorry about rant.... just very frustrated if I have to go through some long drawn out process to get this straightened out.

  • When I click on my address in my contact entry Google maps show diferent point at the map

    Please,
On iPhone 4, iOS 5, When I click on my address in my contact entry Google maps show diferent point at the map

Do you have a WiFi only iPad?
If yes, go to another site, like say a Starbucks, connect to their internet and click on the arrow to show your location. If it is correct then your router is reporting incorrect information. Wait and the database will eventually be updated.

  • I have a MacBook Air 13 , mid 2009 & am trying to get it to show power point on a projector, I have the correct plug. Do I have to pst some keys to fire up the projector ? Kevin

I have a MacBook Air 13 , mid 2009 & am trying to get it to show power point on a projector, I have the correct plug. Do I have to push some keys to fire up the projector ? Kevin

The short answer is no. You will, however need to fire up the projector manually, and then change the input for the projector (if it hasn't already) to that of the computer. Once the projector is fired up and displaying an image of the screen of your computer, simply start the powerpoint as you normally would, since the projector will mirror your screen. If you will be talking for long periods of time without pressing any keys, or advancing the presentation, you might want to change the energy saver preferences to stop the computer from going to sleep as fast as it would. Does all this help?
    Best of luck!

  • Adobe Connect does not show tool pointer/cursor when sharing Photoshop...

I am an online instructor and one of the courses I teach is a Photoshop course. Each week I host a Live Lecture session where we use Adobe Connect to demonstrate techniques and tools in Photoshop CS6.
I am receiving several complaints from students because Adobe Connect does not correctly show my cursor/pointer when it changes for each tool in Photoshop. All the students see is an arrow with a small icon of a face/monitor.
This is confusing to the students, because I am trying to demonstrate how to use a tool and they are unable to see the actual tool. For example, when I select the brush tool - they should be able to see the brush circle as the cursor. I then demonstrate how to resize the brush - but they cannot see it. Another example is any of the healing/cloning tools. If I select the healing brush tool, they cannot see the circle (brush). I then demonstrate how to record a healing point by selecting the Option (alt) key - but again the students cannot see the pointer change to the crosshairs to record the healing point - as all they see is the arrow with icon at all times.
Students are complaining that they are not able to comprehend what I am demonstrating because they are not able to get the full affect of the demonstration without seeing it how it should be. Prior to switching to Adobe Connect, we used WebEx - which showed the students everything correctly as I was demonstrating it. I was amazed to learn that Adobe Connect does not show everything - especially since I am using another Adobe program within Adobe Connect - you would think they would be fully compatible and able to show everything.
    Thank you

I just saw this option for the first time last week. Very exciting to see it finally in Connect! There is a small amount of lag for the viewers, but nothing that can't be compensated for.

  • Show focus points in lightroom

I have Canon DSLRs and the EXIF metadata clearly contains the focal points that the camera focused on (I can see it with Canon Digital Photo Profiessional)
I'd like to have the same view in Lightroom, i.e. Lightroom gives me a "viewfinder-like" overlay that shows the focal points which the camera was using.

That query shows no results (for me).
This one shows other messages with focus points in their text:

  • Show/hide pointer issue

Show pointer option is not working as it used to be with last 2 versions of photoshop touch for iphone on iphone 6.
While making a selection with lasso tool with "show pointer on" I can not carry on selection step by step, it works a few steps properly then I had to wait for a while so that it can go further step.

I apologize for the confusion. Let me try to start over, following the instructions you are asking to provide. The computer that has Photoshop installed is from school, so I will try the best I can giving you detailed specs. For what I know, It is a PC running Windows 7 64bit, but I do not know the amount of RAM as I do not have permission to access the control panel or any of its system settings. The version of Photoshop is CS6 13.0 Extended, and its performance preferences re the following...
    Available Ram: 34827MB
    IdealRange: 1884-2467MB
    Allow Photoshop to use: 2056MB
    HardDrive: 835GB
as for the error, there is no error. I might of not been specific, but I am not stupid not to include the type of error if there was any...
Other things like the grand total ram, video card, and video ram are all accessible by the administrator only.
the file I am working on, is an imported 3ds Max file. I was trying to use Photoshop's 3D painting tool, and from what I understand, it is possible to hide polygons by selecting an area you would like to keep, and what is not selected gets hidden. This is supposed to be good for painting areas that are behind parts of the mesh that is in the way. From the instruction, you are suppose to select the area that you want to keep, and then choose 3d->Show/Hide Polygons->Within Selection. This part I was able to do. Once I was happy with what I needed to paint, I then selected 3d->Show/Hide Polygons-> invert. This allowed me to continue painting other hard areas of the mesh by revealing what was hidden and hides what is visible. Then, when I was ready to reveal the entire mesh back, I was thinking that I should be able to do this by clicking on 3d->Show/Hide Polygon->Reveal All. However, this only reverts the visibility back the other way around as if I clicked on revert.
So what I was wondering is if this is how the 3d reveal all tool works or is this a bug?
I hope this clear things up, if not, please let me know.

  • Show focus points?

Is it possible to show the focus points?
C1 Pro do not have this function so have to go back to Canon DPP to verify if camera problem or wrong operation.

    >No...the camera companies don't document that info.
Well, that has not stopped adobe in the past. It is only when the camera company both does not document and "encrypts" or "obscures" data that adobe seems to develop legal concerns.
I am trying to think what info camera companies do document...
However, I'm guessing you are suggesting that because the info is not documented it is not worth adobe's time to figure it out.
