Show Brush Hardness in Toolbar?

In CS5 one can change brush size and hardness with Alt + rt. click and move mouse.  The brush size can be seen in the box, but the hardness has to be guessed at by judging the color size within the brush circle.  With small brushes this is more difficult.  Is there any way for the hardness level to show without opening the brush drop down box?
Would be ideal, at least for me, to have the hardness listed next to the brush size.

Good suggestion!  Unfortunately, I know of no way to have it show up in the toolbar, but if you make the entire Brush panel visible (Window - Brush) you will, of course, have a full-time display showing all the parameters.  It does require some precious screen real estate to keep that visible, though, and there's no "non-expanded view" for it.
To make matters worse, without OpenGL enabled the brush size/hardness gestures (Alt-right click & drag) still work, but there's no color overlay at all, only an outline, so one cannot even guess the hardness.

  • When NOT using icons on the toolbar, side-bar drop-down for additional toolbar items has disappeared with Firefox 4 and accessing these items requires clicking 'Bookmarks', then 'Show all bookmarks' then 'Toolbar'--ugh, what a pain.

On older versions of Firefox, Toolbar links ran across the top of my screen, with a drop-down to the far right which would show additional Toolbar items for which there was not room on the screen.
With Firefox 4, if I'm not using icons (text only), the dedicated Toolbar drop-down is gone and I have to first click 'Bookmarks' to the right of the Toolbar ribbon, then 'Show All Bookmarks', then 'Toolbar' in order to access my additional Toolbar links. Could anyone have made it any harder?
Why doesn't someone just restore the drop-down at the far right of the Toolbar so that all of my Toolbar items (which I prefer to keep separately from the regular Bookmark items, else I would have just plain bookmarked those items in the first place) are readily accessible?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

  • Why i can not adjust the brushes hardness?

The slider for the brushes hardness is never available. How can adjust/or show availability?

In photoshop elements only the brushes based on the round brushes (computed brushes as there sometimes called)
have adjustable hardness (ones in the red stroked area are examples of the round brushes)
Other brushes such as the ones below don't have adjustable hardness.

  • Does not show my hard drive when i try to install Tiger...

I have a Powerbook G4 that has no operating system installed yet, so when i try to install Tiger, i have to put the DVD in while booting up. I went to the installing screen, and i agreed to everything and all, but when i got to the part where it asks where to install, my hard drive does not show up. I went to DISK UTILITY and chose to erase the entire hard drive (I dont have anything on it yet) and I also chose to repair it. It didnt have any needed repairs, so I went back to the install screen, and it still didnt show the hard drive as an option. It is a 55.9 GB hard drive, and when i erase it, the size does not change, so I know there is nothing on it yet. In Disk Utility, the details for the Hard drive says it is named CSD CAT060L, it is a Disk, the media type is Generic, and it is Internal. I have tried this many times, but the exact same thing happens. My DVD for Tiger was unopened, and new out of the box. If you need any information about what happens or anything, just ask.
    Thanks a bunch, Eshan.

    Try this:
    1. Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.

I just switched to Snow Leopard.
Before I switched I was able to make BOTH the date & time to show always in the toolbar.

Jim, Go to System Preferences>Date & Time>Clock tab. Your options are here.

No no, if you read what I said, it would be that each individual display would be customizable to the user. The way you have it, it sounds like your second display will be dedicated to scrolling through fullscreen apps not allowing you to do it on the home screen. This is silly because with my concept, you could do that, by dragging apps to fullscreen in your second display, but if you want you could tell another display to scroll through fullscreen apps (independently) if you wanted. Each display will have it's own mission control with it's own set of desktops. I also can see how some people would still want them linked together, so this could just be a little check box made in mission control prefs to "link" or "unlink" desktops with link checked by default.
With your solution you're limited to your setup. but what if the person has three or four displays? Well then your solution would limit them to one dedicated display that scrolls through fullscreen apps where mine lets a person customize their desktops depending on their preference and setup.
further example: if you have safari, address book and mail in one display, you could still have ichat, PS and Illustrator in your second, and a text editor, FTP Client and iTunes in your third. Then you would mix and match these apps but it would promote the use of mulitple displays as well as benefit people with three or more, which thunderbolt, Cinema Display and Pro computers support.

  • Brush Hardness in CS5

Seems we've lost the command, option, control ability to visually adjust brush hardness on the fly in PSCS5. Instead I get a seemingly useless color picker. Has this VERY USEFUL keyboard/mouse feature been reassigned or is it gone?
    Regards,
    kingdex

I really like the idea of an on-the-fly Color Picker...  But I hope Adobe reevaluates how their new HUD (Heads Up Display) Color Picker works.
The way the current Color Picker works: click the foreground swatch once. Choose a color, hit return. Done.
The HUD Picker: To invoke hit control+option+command+mouse drag. Invoke it where you want it, because the HUD picker is locked where you bring it up. Don’t invoke it too near the edge in Standard Screen Mode or you won’t see it all. Don’t release the mouse button or else it disappears. Don’t try to sample a color outside of the Picker, it won’t let you. Move sample ring around the Saturation/Brightness field (it is locked to your cursor). Now press and hold the Spacebar to set the Sat/Brightness values and move cursor to the Hue slider. Release the spacebar and manipulate the Hue slider (those two steps feel really counter-intuitive). After adjusting the Hue, if you want to make additional Sat/Brightness changes depress spacebar and move back to Sat/Brightness field but make sure you are directly over the set sample ring when you release the spacebar or else it will jump to your cursor. When you have the color you want, release mouse button to leave HUD Picker and set it as your foreground color.
And did I mention no numeric color information?
A great idea which I hope will evolve to be useful in the next Photoshop.

Since update to FF 16.0.1 the FF Start Page is blank, my bookmark toolbar doesn't show automatically + the navigation toolbars stays on the first url.
I uninstalled 16.0.1 and reinstalled 15.0.1 and everything worked fine so I reinstalled 16.0.1 and have the issues again.

hello shanonrs, can you try launching firefox in safe mode once and see if the issue is occurring there too? maybe an extension or theme is interfering here...

  • Bookmarks sidebar shows all but bookmarks toolbar in blank

Help! I'm using FF 4.0.1 on Win 7
None of my bookmarks show in the Bookmarks toolbar but they work correctly on the sidebar.
The sidebar shows 3 root folders.
All the bookmarks are properly in the "bookmarks toolbar" folder. None are in the "Bookmarks menu" folder or the "Unsorted bookmarks" folder.

''Bookmarks Menu will not sort even after sorting bookmarks sidebar''
Install the "SortPlaces" extension. There are several more extensions that you will also want to to install including "Add bookmark to here2", "Show Parent Folder", "Go Parent Folder" for starters. More information about sorting bookmarks and about several extensions in an article that I wrote most of at

  • HT2491 how to show macintosh hard drive on the desktop

how to show macintosh hard drive on the desktop in apple macbook pro,n how can i install my canon scaner with printer on mac,i am new user,regards,dr.m.imran

Thank you for these directions. I just created a new user account and couldn't believe the hard drive was not viewable on the desktop. It seems by default the hard drive should always be viewable on the desktop. By having absolutely nothing on the desktop when making a new user I was freaking out thinking my Mac had a bug after the OS updates.
Thank you for the directions on how to show the hard drive on a new user's desktop.

  • Assign brush hardness Decrease/Increase to Shift functions (Or some alternative)

Hi.  I am moving my shortcuts over the the left of the keyboard as much as possible. So the [ ] keys are becoming S and D.  But I really liked hitting SHIFT+[ to change the brush hardness.  It looks like I can't do Shift+S or Shift+D for this.  Does anybody know of a workaround? Perhaps through a script or a hack of sorts?
I'm wondering how I could feather the hardness and size swiftly (like I did with the "[ ]" setup).  I suppose I could assign the hardness to, say, X and C, but that seems a bit wasteful.
I'm open to different solutions to this problem.
    Thanks!

It's a very long time since I used the keyboard for brush size and hardness, because it is so easy to Alt right click and drag.  If I only want to adjust brush size, I use the express wheel on my tablet.  You are very brave to undertake such a radical change of Photoshop keyboard shortcuts, but you should be able to do what you mention.  Is your plan driven because you are left handed perhaps?  If that is the case, then there's a good chance that there are alternative key maps out there you could use.
I guess you know you can save your new shortcuts to a custom workspace?

  • Brush hardness is grayed out

I have bene wondering why it has been a pain in the butt to be using a paint brush in my photoshop elements 12 and now I noticed when I go into the brush details that the hardness is grayed out.  This mean I can't even put my watermark on my pictures because the brush doesn't show up.  How do I fix it?

Which operating system are you using?
Yes, the trial linked to above has a place to enter the serial.
If things are still not right after do a reinstall, then reset the pse 12 editor preferences
In the photoshop elements 12 editor, go to Photoshop Elements (Edit)>Preferences>General, then click on Reset Preferences on next Launch and then restart the pse 12 editor.

  • I recently downloaded a toolbar call Quizolous_v3b. I then realized that I did not want it and Quickly uninstalled it. It is now my default search engine and it still shows up as a toolbar for firefox and I can't get rid of it. in English

I downloaded it from this website while trying to get another offer online. http://www1.officialiqquiz.com/neo3n/index.php?q=1 This was the first time that I tried one of these offers and I will not be trying another one because of the issues. I would like to reset my firefox search bar to google and have this toolbar permanently removed from my Firefox program. As I am not a programmer I do not know what else to do since I have already uninstalled it and it doesn't show up in any of my folders. It only shows up when I launch firefox.

Hi Gnib, First go to start>control panel>add/remove Programs. In add/remove
programs there will be "Media Bar" once you click on it to remove it,then it says
remove "media bar 2.0". Get rid of that also. Now go into your "add-ons
and extensions". There will be something about the imesh toolbar. Uninstall
that. Go into start>programs. If imesh is there, delete that too.
If this doesn't work for you. Tell me what you first did to remove imesh.

  • How do I get "File", "Edit", "View", etc. to show up on my toolbar rather than them all being consolidated into "Menu"?

I don't want everything consolidated under "Menu", I want to see "File", "Edit", "View", etc. listed across my toolbar. I played around with it as much as possible, and I have searched Firefox Help to no avail. I can't believe this option would be non-existent. The consolidation may be visually pleasing, but functionally it's annoying and is slightly more time consuming. Please help, thank you very much. (^-^)/

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).
