Show file details before copying/overwriting a file?

Hi,
Is there a way in Mac OS to see file details (e.g., date, size) when copying a file into a folder already containing a file of the same name?
That is, instead of the copy dialog box asking "An item named 'file.doc' already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you're moving?", is there a way to show the file details of both files so I can determine if they are the same file, or different version of a file that share the same name?
What I'm really looking for is for Mac OS to ask me if I want to replace file x (##MB, dd/mm/yyyy) with file y (##MB, dd/mm/yyyy) and give me enough information to actually answer that question.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I get that message I make a small change in the name, usually adding a number and then save. Afterward I look in the folder and see if they are the same, sometimes by Get info on the file, sometimes dates and weight and sometimes by opening both in the application.

I don't know if im doing something wrong, or this is a feature, but does File copy from GPP, overwrite the destination file, even if the destination has newer time stamp?
I actually want this to happen, but it is not. Hence, I am assuming if the destination file is newer, then it does not copy.

Some files (as well as some registry keys) are owned by Trusted
Installer - even SYSTEM lacks write access to them. And of course, you
cannot overwrite a file with open handles :)

Jar -xvf file.war doesn't overwrite all files.

Has anyone else experienced the case when a WAR file created using Netbeans is extracted (jar -xvf file.war) doesn't overwrite all the existing files in the directory with the files contained in the WAR?

Looks like it doesn't always do it or I extracted the war file in another directory and then issued the mv command to move the tree thinking it would replace all files.

Why do I get error : InDesign could not package the document ' name of file ' . Cannot copy necessary linked file(s).

I am create a very basic 36 page magazine. I have never ever encounter this issue in the 10 years I have been creating these. I have been getting this issue ever since the cloud InDesign. It is making it very difficult to get my work to press. I have no errors! All items are linked. I've gone through and relinked. I've removed items. I feel like I've tried many things. If I edit an audio file that is already on my ipod in the itune library will it change the file on the ipod or will the file on the ipod overwrite the file in itunes?

I have some audio files that could be edited to remove portions I don't need. They were lectures that has some portions which I like to remove. If I edit the file in the itunes library will it be able to sense that with even the same name the file has changed and update my ipod, ipad an so forth? Or will the files on the devices be moved back and overwrite the newer version? Or perhaps will I need to do all of this by hand? Thanks

- Only iTunes purchases will copy from iPod to computer.
- If you sync manually and do not specify those modified songs to sync they will not sync to the iPod nor will the original version be deleted from the iPod
- If you sync automatically and include those songs or select the modified songs to sync manually, the songs in the iPod should be replaced with the modified songs. However sometimes that does not happen

Need to Append the records in file and want to Overwrite the file

I facing one scenario i am sending 5lacs records in 50k slots want to append these records in same file in one day and next day i want to overwrite the existing file............

I am not duplicating the posting .now i have now change my interface design my interface is not meeting my req ,by this append opreation as you also know that first want to append the records whole day in one file and then next day with same processing i want to over write the file.

Open file - Search word - Copy word - Save file with word found

Disable "Overwrite existing files" when upload doument

Dear team,
in document library, when upload document, i don't want the document to overwrite the documents with the same name.
there is chekbox in upload page, that is default checked, I searched and some people said that I can update the upload page, find the checkbox control, and set the value to false, so i update the value in Upload.aspx and Uploadex.aspx page to change the
value.
but after changing the value, I cannnot open the upload page successfully, it always shows error.
Did I do anything wrong?

This is not the right procedure
Scording to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to override SharePoint OOTB Upload.aspx default for " Overwrite existing files" checkbox.
We can use the AdditionalPageHead delegate control to change the default without modifying upload.aspx.
There is an article for your reference, although it is about the WSS3.0, it still works for SharePoint 2013: Turn Default Upload Overwrite Off in WSS 3.0
Please follow the steps as below:
Download the solution file form here
Copy the wps file to the Disk C.
Open the SharePoint 2013 Management Shell.
Run the command: add-spsolution c:\ DefaultUploadOverwriteOff.wsp
Open the Center Administration, click System Setting->Manage Farm Solution-> dp.sharepoint.workflow.wsp->Deploy to one or more Web Application.
Open the site, clilck Site settings-> Site collection features-> Default Upload Overwrite Off->Active.
Open the library, the 'overwrite existing files' checkbox will be unchecked.

Problem in Overwriting the file in Receiver File adapter

Hi all,
I configured my scenario Proxy to File. Every day the back ground job runs in SAP and send all Employee Details to XI, XI then write it into File in XI server, in Receiver File adapter i enable overwrite existing file.
But some times its over writing the file some times came up with error like "Access Denied".
Can any one tell me what could be the problem.

This can be a Authorization problem...may be at that time you are unable to write any file in that directory..or some other application is using it and it make a lock at that time.

Hello, and welcome to Apple Support Communities!
I am not familiar with the program that you list, however files in OS 9 use things called Resource Forks (rather than file extensions) for filetype and creator.
If you sent a file through Linux these resource forks probably got stripped and now the file is nothing to your Macintosh.
It is best to BinHex your files (.hqx) before leaving the HFS file system so that their resource forks are preserved.

How to copy an executable file(s) to multiple windows 64 bit OS Windows 2008 and above and execute the app thru cmd

This is how i phased by goals:
1)Login as admin on remote computers from a txt file.
2) Copy the exe files to Windows folder
3) Using cmd execute the commands
4)Get the output tabulated into a txt file

Being new to PS, i think i am mixing up PS and PSexec.
I launch PS window and run a few commands PSexec commands.
Command to copy MegaCli64.exe file and execute it but i need to actually create a folder in windows and copy two files there.

16bit? Pixels extending beyond the canvas? (from a crop with delete unused pixels turn off). Have you previously been saving PSD files?
IME you sometimes have to tell Photoshop that the first save of a session is JPG, and it remembers from there on. The way to 'tell' Photoshop that JPG, or PDF, or PNG etc are now your preferred format is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on that format in the Save As drop down list. So long as the file does not have parameters that your chosen format does not support, then this should work for you.
[EDIT] Just noticed that you did include 'Crop' in the subject line. Do you have 'Delete cropped pixels' checked?

Its almost as if the file is there but not accessable. I desperately need to access my old mail. How do I do this? I am fairly confident that I copied all files off my old notebook. Is there a way for me to search for the Database file? Maybe I copied it to a different location? Urgent help please.

Simplest way is to use Target Disk mode:
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode - Apple Support
and hook to another Mac and use CCC or SuperDuper and clone your HD to another drive.
You could also pull the drive out of your MBP and use an external USB case or SATA - USB dongle to hook it to another Mac.

Show file details during keep/stop/replace?

Does it annoy anyone else when you're copying a file from one location to another, where the same filename exists, and it asks you if you want to stop, replace, or keep both... and it doesn't provide the flipping file details with size and date (so one can make an informed decision)? Windows has been doing this for 20 years, and Apple still refuses to add this functionality.
I know about the option key to "skip" the operation... irrevelant to this conversation. But I know someone will bring it up.
Thoughts?

Sync 2 Folders is a good application, I already use it to compare backup files. Having something native would be great though.
As a point of discussion (this is really a discussion piece more than a question):
I'm not anti-OSX... overall, I have grown to dislike Windows, but both operating systems have good features. I know that Steve Jobs was big on simplicity, and he didn't want a dialog box with file details, as it would screw up the "user friendly" environment that Apple is known to have (with confusing file sizes and dates for non-technical users). However, it would be nice to have an option to see the file details so I don't have to use terminal or open two finder windows... much like holding the option key down to provide the skip function.
Apple is form over function.. Windows is function over form.
Example one, my iMac has an SD slot on the BACK of the f***ing computer. Of course they couldn't put it anywhere else because it wouldn't look good... and the new edges are 5mm... which I could care less about. I love articulating myself behind my computer, digging in the wires every time I want to view photos from my camera.
Example two, mac magic mouse.. looks great right? It's a joke, ergonomically speaking. It feels totally unnatural in the hand. I'd love to use it, but my Logitech G5 just feels so right.
I won't start with the windows examples, I wouldn't know where to begin.
Enough said.
