Show file type in iPhoto

I'm sure I used to be able to see the file extension in iPhoto 9.4.3 e.g. .jpg or .tif etc. Is there a way to turn this off or on in Photos view?

You should see it in the panel on top of the info panel:

I'm using iPhoto and Time Machine to backup my RAW and JPEG image files. I'd like to add some insurance and backup the RAW files to a second external hard drive. Is there any way to select files by file type in iPhoto '11 and group them for export?

then Export using File -> Export and be sure to set the Kind to Original in the Export dialogue

How to Get MetaData to Show File Type?

In particular, I want to differentiate images stored as NEF, TIFF or Jpeg.
How do I use the MetaData Customization panel to indicate these?

You might use color labels and assign them on import (assuming you import by file type).
The color labels are the most obvious indication in the Browser (and, less so, in the Viewer) of _something_. They are easy to see and easy to apply or change. What you map to the color labels is up to you. It should be something of top-most importance -- something you need to be able to tell at a glance. (Logically, you have to deal with having eight labels, and being restricted to assigning one and only one label per Image.)
I use color labels to indicate the current status of each Image's development. For you, the file type of the Image's Original might be more important. For me, just to give an example:

Orange              Developing (not completed)           ✣
Yellow               Bracketed by Exposure Set/Replaced by Externally Edited        ❊

Show file type icons for MS Word, Adobe Flash etc

Hi,
I'd like to know if anyone has found a way to display custom icons for assets such as MS Word documents, Adobe Flash documents etc. Currently if a user uploads one of these types of asset a generic blank document icon is presented. It would be very nice if instead a recognizable icon would be presented instead.
I have dug into the filetypes.plist found in /Library/Application\ Support/Final\ Cut\ Server/Final\ Cut\ Server.bundle/Contents/Resources/conf and have had some success getting an Adobe InDesign document display a non-blank icon when viewing it's asset, but there's no documentation out there so I'm kind of working in the dark.

I used the CS Cleaner (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and followed the steps its really easy.. but ur gonna have to re install you Creative Suite all u do for the cleaner is open it up then select english (e) ->enter->Agree (Y)->enter->All (1) (which is the first option for a full clean i guess)->enter->Product Number its just basically asking you to input your choice number again (1)->enter and should tell u its all done then after u install CS again go to start-> default programs->associate file type->.psd for example->double click it and select Photoshop even though its probably already selected >.< but just do it again cuz it will refresh all the files on the coputer and whala you should c the correct file dysplay Heres pictures of my files before and after as proof

Accepted file formats or types in iphoto

I'm getting an error when I try to import a PDF photo into iphoto:
"The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format)"
I cannot find a list of the file types that iPhoto accepts.. anyone know?

iPhoto does not support pdf's but only image formats such as jpeg, psd, png, gif etc.

DNG file types don't show thumbnails or previews

I am having trouble with Adobe Bridge CS5 for Mac OSX. Up until last week it was working fine. I haven't made any changes to my computer or my camera or anything like that. But now .DNG files won't show their thumbnail or preview. I only see the icon for the file type in the thumbnail list, and then when I click on the thumbnail, I just see a bigger version of the file type icon in the preview window. However, JPEGs show up just fine.
I've searched through this forum and tried:
- Resetting the Workspace
- Resetting Bridge to default (Opening it with the Option key pressed)
- Purging the cache
- Checking that Camera Raw is properly installed (I have 6.7)
- Updating DNG Converter to 8.3
But no luck yet. Is this a new issue or something?

What about your old DNG photos which used to display properly? Can you still see those okay?
Have you set the Compatibility preference in DNG Converter to Camera Raw 6.6 and later?
Can you confirm that you have only one copy of Camera Raw 6.7 installed, and no other versions in alternative File Formats folders?

Try image capture or a card reader - after the photos are safely on your Mac then use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card

Well, I tried rebuilding the Launch services with the command listed but still no luck. After having no luck with that and deleting caches, etc....I also, went to my home (user) directory and in Preferences, I deleted the com.apple.launchservices.plist file. I restarted and checked and still the same result.
Also, I want to emphasize again that the file type I am discussing DOES actually launch with the correct application. (Cubase files in my example).
But it is just annoying that ALL of my Cubase files display the Pro Tools application icon, and in Get Info they are listed to open with Pro Tools. But they actually do launch Cubase if double clicked.
And one other VITAL note....if I open Get Info for one of these files, and change the Open With from Pro Tools to Cubase....then that choice DOES "stick" and retain. (if I "don't" also click Change All)
It's only when I click "Change All" that it DOESN'T stick and the list selection jumps back to Pro Tools. I hope that may offer some clarity.

Some iTunes library files showing as an unknown file type - different files from same import...

Haven't been able to find a similar problem on here, but apologies if this is a repetition of another discussion.
Some of the files in my Itunes library popped up with the little exclamation mark next to them, so I attempted to locate them. It's been a patchy problem since transferring from PC to Mac, but has just been an issue of pointing Itunes to the right file.
However, in this instance when I navigate through to the files in the folder they aren't showing as the same file type as the music that is playing in the library - I just get a blank page icon.
What's confusing me is that these aren't different file types or from different sources. They're maybe 3 tracks out of a whole album that is playing fine, that were all ripped from the same CD at the same time.
I've no idea why the Itunes is seeing some of these files differently. Any ideas?

Looked at in the HD they're all showing as M4P. I'm sure it's the way the software is viewing the files, and not the files themselves. Itunes does offer to find the others, but then does a really crappy job of doing so - missing files in the same album in the same folder.
I've cracked the original file problem by pointing Itunes to the files by going through the MacHD route, so now I'm just wrestling with thousands of missing files that I know are sitting right next to the files that aren't missing!
I might just resign myself to ploughing through and fixing it, sorting the patchy artwork at the same time. If I do a purge at the same time I can convince myself that I'm not wasting my life!

SharePoint Search Results Not Showing all Results but in Refiners showing that Type of File is existing

Adobe printer shows plt file type not pdf

Just installed Adobe Acrobat XI on Win 7 workstation,
text documents pdf okay,
Printing 24 x 36 cad files only shows plt file type, fails to create pdf.
Didn't have this problem with Acrobat 8 Pro and windows XP,
what am I missing?

Some pdf s may not be compatible with the Firefox pdf viewer. Almost all pdf s should display in either the standalone Adobe viewer or the Adobe plugin.
The built-in Firefox pdf viewer is still undergoing development and improvements. Some of the problems with it will be forthcoming Firefox Releases. Some save file problems should be fixed in fx<s>21</s>fx'''22''' (Currently the Nightly version)

Show BLOB icon based on file type?

I have a report which shows BLOB file types as thumbnails. You click on the icon and the file pops up in its own window. This is all based on the How-To docs for APEX on OTN. That said, when the blob is an image, the icon shows up as a small preview of that image. However when the blob is something else, say a word document, it shows up as blank. You can still click on it, but the thumbnail is blank.

How to make it so that DW shows color-coded text for a file type?

I work with ".inc" files, which I include into PHP files.
At the moment DW just shows all of the text within .inc files
as black. How can I get DW to color-code the text (like it does
with other files such as html or php) so that I can make it easier
to read?
