Show full email address in Mail?

Just upgraded to a new rMBP. In Mail, the reading pane, I would like the "From:" line to display the user's email address, along with their "friendly name" (which is the only thing displayed now, unless I click on it to get a dropdown menu with the actual email address). Any way to do that? Thanks much.

Uncheck "Use Smart Addresses" and that should do it.
That option was already unchecked.

  • Setting to show full email address

I am looking for a setting that will do either:
    1. Show the full 'from' email address in the native ios email app by default, rather than just showing an alias.  Instead of seeing "From: John Doe" it would show
    "From: [email protected]"
    or
    2. Mark/highlight emails not from our domain. Similar to the "Mark addresses" setting which highlights outgoing email addresses if they are not in a qualified domain. I would like to be able to mark/highlight incoming emails not from our domain.
The reason being, to make identifying spam/phishing emails easier for our less technically inclined employees.

You're going to need to use a third party mail app. Mymail for example allows you to add filters and would allow you to separate emails from your domain and move them automatically to a folder which you specify. Of what I know, the native mail app does not have either of these two capabilities and what you see within the mail section in settings, is all you get.

  • New message address shows the Name but not full email address

The email To: will show the name eg John Doe but not the full description [email protected] If I click on the tab by the name I will see the full email address referenced. If mail sees just the name it sometimes says John Doe does not appear to be a valid email. If I send an email to myself at other email accts I have (aol for example) the mail does arrive. I think this may be related to address book but not sure. If I enter a new email in the TO in a new message It keeps the entire email address, I think. Anyway just want some feedback about this since thee is a degree of uncertainty here

mail will indeed draw from address book's contacts. if you have in mail>preferences>viewing the option "use smart addresses" checked, then the name of the contact will be displayed in the to/from... fields and you can see the full email address when selecting the tab next to the name. so that is normal behavior. if you enter a new email address for which you do not have a contact card created in address book, then that will remain as an email address in the field you entered it to. you would have to create a card in address book, add that email address, and then the name of the contact would appear in an email field rather than only the email address.
    hope this helps

  • Mac Mail displays full email addresses instead of contact name

I use the Mail application on my MacBook for managing multiple email accounts and use the Contacts application to manage my address book (self explanatory).
For example: I have saved PayPal's email address ([email protected]) into my address book as "PayPay" because of the high number of emails I receive from them. In Mail, each email I have received is displaying the full email address of the sender, rather than their address book name (whether it be a company or friend/relative) and this is making it to spot senders while scrolling.
Is there a setting where if the email address is in the Contacts app, the name of that particular contact appears rather than the full address?

whether your number or email address is desplayed depends on how you have Caller ID set.
Settings -> Messages ->Receive At ->Caller ID (chose what you want displayed)

  • Full Email Address Header for Viruses and Spam?

I have been googling all day and trying to find out a method to display the full email header to display on the iPhone.
Most email clients (both web based and program based) have a method by which you can view the "original" message or the email header information. In the original message viewing one is able to see the entire mail header.
Most of already know that a person can send an email from an email server and pretend to be anybody they want. They populate the "name" the "pretend email address" it is coming from, the same address as the "reply to" (so it looks legit) and so forth. What the email header also contains, which I am not able to see on the iPhone is where the email was actually sent from (the email server it originated from) which is KEY to identifying and dealing with spam/virus types of email.
In the world of spam and virus laden emails, I have yet to find a way to display this information using the iPhone.
As a prime example..... There is a trojan virus out there saying facebook has changed your password and for you to open their .zip file for your new password. You can click on the FROM address contact link (showing the sender is "The Team" in the iPhone email client and it will open up the information it has in a contact type window. In the example mentioned above, if you do this it just says it is coming from "The Facebook Team" and show an email address of: [email protected]. Seeing this information one must automatically assume the email is legit right??? Of course it isn't. The people sending out the email just put that information in there to make it appear as if it is a legit email from a legit person/organization/company. However if one can actually see the email header itself one would easily be able to see the email's origination server/email-server did not come from facebook itself.(therefore automatic spam)
To help protect spam and potential virus laden emails from appearing to be coming from some "so-called valid email address" a method is needed in order to verify/validate who is actually sending the email itself so as to effectively and accurately identify these types of email and aid in the reporting of these emails to the appropriate organizations directly on our iPhones.
Is there any way to view the full email content header on mails received from other accounts on our iPhone to deal with spam/virus related emails we receive on our iPhones via Push? Or are we to have to wait and launch our email client in order to handle this (seems silly to have to need a computer to handle this as the iPhone is a computer is many aspects running a real operating system)?
Thanks in Advance for any replies.

To my knowledge there is no way to get message headers or source in the iPhone’s mail application. Because of apple's restrictions on third party apps, I doubt you'll see an app that does this as well. As tedious as it is, using Safari is your only choice.
You can make suggestions to apple here:

    Hi Sunny C,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The "From" field should be showing by default, but you can check or change your settings for Mail with the instructions below:
    Mail (Yosemite): Set Mail preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19178
In the Composing pane, you can set the email account that you want to send new messages from.
Also, check the View command on the Menu bar.  View > Message Attributes should have a checkmark beside the "From" field.
    Cheers,
    Judy

  • How do you set-up a hotmail email address in mail

how do you set-up a hotmail email address in mail?
I cant seem to add it. any ideas why it cant connect to the server? what server address should i be using?
    regards
    Brendon

    Hi bmuur,
I also had the same problem.
I clicked Microsoft Exchange and kept trying to add my hotmail account that way but it kept asking for a server address for it to work.
If you go into Internet Accounts and instead of clicking Microsoft Exchange scroll down to the bottom of the list and click Add Other Account...
It will ask what sort of account you want to be created and I selected Add Mail Account and clicked create.
Enter your full name, hotmail email address and password.
I then clicked create and it worked for me.
    Hopefully this solves your problem.

  • Authenticating to POP/IMAP as full email address

I'd like to be able to have users authenticate to Cyrus with their full email address rather than a standard username.
I have the Mail Service configured to do Postfix style virtual aliases as per the referenced tutorial.
When I create a user in WGM, I'm creating two short names:
    localserver1joe
    [email protected]
This allows me to authenticate as either name -- including with Cyrus.
However, when I check mail with Cyrus, it creates a 2nd mailbox of "joe@server1^local" while all mail is being delivered to the original mailbox, "localserver1joe".
Further, if I use the CLI and dscl, I can create a user having a first short name of [email protected] (you cannot use special characters in the WGM for the short name). So the order of the short names are:
    [email protected]
    localserver1joe
But by doing this, I get a Postfix error of "Mailbox does not exist" (relay=cyrus). Once I reverse the short names, I'm back to the situation at the beginning of this post.
Is there a way to do this?

Looks like it's a POP3 only problem. I tried Mail.app and Thunderbird and both worked fine using IMAP -- I could log in with [email protected] and it read from the localserver1joe mailbox.
I created a symlink from /var/spool/imap/users/localserver1joe to /var/spool/imap/users/joe@server1^local. POP3 worked with Thunderbird, but Mail.app did not like that trick.
ugh... so close to everything working.

Updated my AppleID account info.  Under password security shows an email address to be used to receive email with new password settings.  I need to update that email address, how do I do that?  Thanks!

Thanks for the help Niel.  I couldn't change the rescue email address (an address that no longer exists and is therefore useless) until I could correctly answer the security questions.  After numerous guesses, finally got them right.  Was then presented with the option to change the rescue email address. Guess the only other option was to have Apple Support make the change or reset my account info.  Have made note of the correct answers so this won't happen again.   Thanks for the fast response!!

It appears because your mail app remembers a history of addresses.
It cannot be deleted but I think it will disappear after a certain time.

  • Export email addresses from Mail?

Is there any way to export email addresses from Mail into a CSV file? I know I can push it to Address Book then export but that mixes all the exports in with my existing addresses.

If you know SQL, you could export out of the previous recipients database file inside your user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder. It's a sqlite3 database.
