Show full file name in File Open Recent Files menu.

I would like to be able to see the full file name in the File > Open Recent Files menu. With long file names, I cannot differentiate between the file I want to edit and the series of images I exported - they all look the same when truncated. (Mac)

I'm working in CS6 on Windows and wondering exactly the same thing. I usually export PDFs or JPGs of current work using the same or very similar names for tracking purposes but trying to open recent files then becomes a game of trying to figure out which of the various identically-truncated file names actually corresponds to the file I want to reopen.
Is there a way to get Illustrator to display the FULL file name in the Open Recent Files menu?

Motion's "Open Recent" Sub Menu doesn't work.

Running Motion 4 and or 5 on Mac OS 10.6.8. Open Recent Sub Menu never shows any recent items. I have dumped the prefrences files related to Motion in the ~/Library/Prefrences for the both system level and users level. Doesn't seem to help. Any ideas? We even unistalled Motion and installed the new Motion 5 from the App Store and have the same issue.
Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstalling a reinstalling usually won't solve simple interface issues. Try trashing the prefs file for you Motion product. I'm on Motion 4 and I don't know where Motion 5 hides its plist file.

Prior to updating to iOs 6.3.1 my system worked perfectly.

Show Full File Path

I have no luck locating the full file path to a Photoshop document in CS5. I have tried hovering my cursor over the short title in the tab for the document, but I only get the name of the document.
I am on XP Professional.
I don't have this problem on another computer which I use that runs Vista.

Thanks for the help. I am refering to documents opened from disk, not new documents. I ended up writting a script that I have a hotkey assigned to that brings up an alert dialog with the path to the file on disk:
The whole issue is: I have opened a bunch of files in PS, some may be duplicate images in different locations, or "I just want to know where [on disk] this image is that I am working on" without having to close-reopen, go to the recent list, or other series of steps. I know this may sound kinda lame at first look, "Hey doesn't he know where the file is that he just opened?", but working in the games industry I, at times, have many files open or am moving from one [disk] location to another and it is just VERY convenient to have the file path info readily available in PS.
BTW: A cooler windows util for getting/copying the path (in a variety of ways) of a file in windows explorer is the context util called Path Copy: http://download.cnet.com/Path-Copy/3000-2072_4-10036463.html. Which looks like this:

Finder no longer showing full file name of mp3

How do i get finder to show me the full and complete file name (in my case, artist-title-label) for these mp3s? i can see the full name in the path at the bottom but i want to see it when i search it. My workflow with Ableton and creating text tracklists for music mix sets depends on it. I need the two file names to match rather than the mp3 just showing the info less the artists name.

Hey there, I don't know if you knew that already. If you did - Welp I gave it a shot. If you don't want to convert files maybe you should look at metabliss.com to help lighten the load. I would definitely make a copy and try it on PC to see if the same issue occurs.

Web Template: Show full user name

I want to show the full name of the current user rather than just the logon id. SYUSER as a text element gives me the id but not the name.
Another alternative is to turn on the user name option in the Role Menu (we are using that on this particular template) but I don't want the "back button" to be shown next to the user name as it has a target of "_Top" and therefore jumps out of the frameset I am using.

Dreamweaver CS5.5 No icons showing in files menu

I have image, fla, swf and a few other apps that open certain files from DW. Today I open the files and I see only icons for dreamweveer and none for the photoshop, Flash and other icons that were there yesterday.
I'm in OS 10.7

Open recent bug in Pages, Keynote

I don't know about Numbers because I don't use it.
When opening either of these apps, the Open Recent dropdown menu is dysfunctional and resists any fix tried so far. Also, even after Clear menu has been activated, the same 3 'previously used' documents appear in the list after restart.
I have deleted iwork preference files, and I have been into System Preferences and checked that in previous documents, it does NOT say None. However, I have set that to None, restarted, opened Pages and it has duly cleared previous docs. Returning to Sys Prefs and re-setting prev docs to 10/50 etc, the same 3 documents (which in fact are NOT the last three documents opened by the way) are there like a recurring nightmare.
I have checked this and other forums for an answer, but the only consistent theme is that there are plenty of people out there suffering from it but there appears to be no solid, permanent cure. Many people have found Sys Prefs set to none, and changing that to 10 solves it temporarily only.
I'd appreciate any help with this. Would a re-install help maybe?

Since it is almost certainly a problem with the preference file, a reinstall should do nothing to help.
For Pages, the recent items list is stored in the file "com.apple.iWork.Pages.LSSharedFileList.plist" under Preferences in the User Library (at least on my Snow Leopard system). Since the same three files continue to show up, it sounds like you did not successfully delete that file. Since more recent items apparently do not get added to the list, I would suspect a problem with permissions on that file. You should have read and write priveleges to it.

"Open Recent" list reverts to old documents.

When I try to Numbers (3.5.2) document via the dock or via the menu bar (File>Open Recent), I am given an out-of-date list of documents. I delete them (File>Open Recent>Clear Menu), find the documents I want and use them, and they will briefly be listed under "Open Recent." However, by the next day at the latest, all the truly recent documents are off the list, and I have a list the out-of-date list there again. This is true for Numbers files on my drive and iCloud. Anyone know a fix?

File not showing in Open Recent

I had a problem that I solved (sort of) with the disappearance of one Logic song file, it’s bounces and backups, while the AAC still existed in iTunes.
This was very strange as it occurred not an hour after I’d used the file, but as I said it has been solved and I was prepared to move on...until...
This same song (now that I’ve found it again) isn’t showing up in the “Open Recent” menu after new work has been done on it. What might be a reason for a no-show like this? (I realize I can and will open the song by other means, but still I would like to get the bottom of this.) Might it be just a simple case of corruption of that one file?

Just to add a few more details. I have been able to add the file to a different library and they uploaded fine. The library in question is created off of a template and has 2 metadata fields. The fields are also being used in the other library, but that
was created from a different template.
The site and initial 4 libraries were created from a site template and then the library was added from a different library template. Checking ULS logs now, but doubtful I will find anything.

I am unable to retrieve spreadsheets. Numbers displays the "Welcome To Numbers" page but does not allow saved spreadsheets to be opened. It offers the "Open Recent" choice and displays saved file names but does not allow these files to be accessed.

I recently upgraded to Numbers 3.5.2. I have an older Macbook Pro (2009) and I run Yosemite 10.10.2. I am unable to open any saved files that were created with earlier versions of Numbers. When I open the Numbers app, I am offered the Welcome To Numbers page. When I choose the 'Open Recent' option, I am offered the greyed names of files that I had recently used, however, I am unable to open any of these files (no error message is displayed). Welcome To Numbers stays on the screen. I tried opening the app by clicking on the file name but it produced the same results. I am having a similar problem with Pages.   I suspect a compatibility problem between the new OSX and the new iWork offerings.   Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does it require a setting change or is it a bug?

Opening from"Open Recent" does not show any files. Help!

Every time I start IBA the splash screen shows up the templates available. At the bottom of the screen there is an option to "open recent" files. The same at the "file" menu on the top menu bar. I see no file records in either one. I always have to use the simple "open" command and search for the files, where they are stored. This is rather annoying as I would prefer to be able to open from "recent" as you are supposed to be able to do. Please, give me some advice if I need to change something in the settings (I could not find any preferences allowing me to do this either.)

File Open Recent (Showing old files)

For some reason very often in PS CS3 if I go to File > Open Recent it doesn't show me the most recent files. Very, very annoying. Anyone have this problem or a workaround? Thanks.

I shut down PS by the X in the upper right hand corner in Windows.
Had not thought about working over a server. If I'm always live on those servers why should that make a difference? Shouldn't the app be able to go out and retrieve the file if it can connect?

Full file path in Office 2007 when open or save

Am not sure i can raise this question here.
We are using 10gR2 Application server and Windows 7 as a Client. In the client machine we have installed the Microsoft Office 2007.
From the forms we are trying to open and save (after changes) the files of format Doc/Xls. These files will be stored in separate shared folder accessible through Application server and client.
Now the issue is when we open/save the file it shows the Entire path (In Saving Window) which should not happen. In previous release of MS office its not like this.
Please help us "to hide the file path to be displayed to the user". Like changing the registry for Office 2007 or workarounds or new solutions or any other oracle's product.
Note : Showing the file name is the Office 2007s default behavior.

The only way to avoid showing this from a Forms point of view would be to not display the open/save file dialog in the first place. In other words, control the opening and saving using your own custom dialogs. Also, be aware that using remote drives (network mapped) may cause problems. Generally speaking, doing this would not be considered supported.
As for opening documents on the client, there is no need to use the open file dialog if you know the file name and path to that file in advance. You can simply use WebUtil's CLIENT_HOST. So let's say you wanted to open a file named mySales.doc and you knew its location, all you would need to do is this:

     CLIENT_HOST(my_cmd);
End;In the above example, +:t1+ is a text field on a canvas. The value would include the path and file name to be opened. Of course this could be a pl/sql variable which you programatically populate or any combination of that. The value value must include the full path (with drive letter) and full file name. If the path or name contains spaces, double quotes may likely be necessary. You will have to test.
For saving an opened file, you are mostly out of luck from Forms unless you took control of Word/Excel as it was being opened in the first place. For example you likely can open the Office products using OLE or VB or other macro and control what the open and file save dialogs look like or if they are even accessible at all. But this has nothing to do with Oracle or specifically Forms.
You need to refer to the MS documentation.
