Show layers's colors in swatches in the layers options's listbox

Here's one simple thing that would considerably improve, if not my efficency, at least my mood.
Adobe interface designers (or engineers, maybe, this looks a hell lot more like an engineer's design), please put yourselves in the user's place. This is not functional. For one thing, it is obviously easier to choose colors by looking at colors, no at labels. As this isn't bad enough, they're not even sorted alphabetically. I use this feature a lot, and still waste time searching for a color, when I have one specific in mind.
Besides, consider foreign users, to whom is even more difficult to make sense of these fancy color names (like ochre, teal, burgundy or lavender).
Why the hell not do as in Photoshop??????
Don't get me wrong, generally speaking, I'm quite satisfied with Adobe and it's products, but I would expect more consistency from a company of your size and considered to be the industry's standard. It can be a minor detail, but it shows some unprofessionalism. I'm wondering... Photoshop and Illustrator are, as far as I know, two of the very first products Adobe had to offer. That goes way back in time. I don't know exactly when color coding for layers was introduced, but anyway, how many years does it take to notice this disparity? 15? 20?
For god sake's, someone should know at least superficially all the products and resolve these issues, or call up a meeting with the product managers or something...
You know, it makes me think. If a company's this big does stuff like that, what can I, as a (still) lonely designer can aspire for my own company?

Illustrator over the years has received a lot of new features. Bravo! but the interface in general has not changed??
Illustrator is a creative way to work but Nigo literally kills the creativity of human.
The example you have given is the tip of the iceberg lack of understanding of the creative man is a machine.
In all other Office programs, the longer I work, I have better and better capacity, Ai did not feel that, even discourages me from year to year.

Iphone 4 shows keep showing 3G even though i turn off the 3G option

Hey everyone... need some help and direction here...
it bothers me a lot, for several times my iphone 4 keep showing 3G even though i turn the 3G option off. This always happen especially when am home, first it looks normal, it shows edge but after several minutes it changes to 3G again and again. i noticed that this thing happened since i upgrade to iOS 5.
is there anyone here that experiencing the same problem? because i've tried to restore it three times, but nothing changed... thank you for any comments and help..

I used the Chat feature in the Contact Us section of the Apple website to try and get some support direct from Apple.
I discussed the lack of menu options, and provided screenshots. The response came back that it was, and I quote, "super strange" for this to be happening. Yet there are plenty of people reporting this problem on this forum.
The support person took me through a hard reboot (power button + home button until it restarts). That did not work, and I was then advised to back up the iPhone with iTunes, and then do a restore.
I did this, it downloaded about 1.2GB of data which I presume was a full, new image of iOS 7.1 (as opposed to the 'upgrade' that had been applied before), and proceeded to load it onto the device.
The issue still persists, attached are screenshots of my Settings > Passcode menu.

Your balance covers the the show's price (plus any applicable taxes), and it this the first time that you've tried to download something with the account ? If it is the first time, then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.

If not then you will need to enter your card details, you should be able to remove them after entering them.

My Illustrator does not allow me to change colors using swatches panel. Help pleas.

Few days ago I started having strange problems with my Illustrator CS5 application. I am using MacBook Pro with Intel Processor. After major update on the Mac OS few days ago I noticed I can not change colors in my drawings using swatches panel. The function on my Illustrator CS5 stopped working. When I select object and try to change its fill or stroke color using fill and stroke from the options bar above work space, none of the swatches would work. The are there how ever nothing hapends when I select them, the color remains the same.The same thing happens if I try to use the swatch panel, I select the object then I try to select new color from swatch but the fill or stroke does not change. I can only change color on my drawings using the color panel but that is not useful for me since I need to get precise colors using approved color swatches ether from pantone library or approved by client.
The other strange thing is my selection tool does not deselect when I click outside on or of the artboard, the object remains selected until I reselect another object or use the keyboard short cut to deselect it.
I have tried various options to resolve the issue from deleting and reseting preference to completely uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator CS5. I even installed back my old CS4 version because I had to complete a project and the same issue is happens there as well. I also reset the application using Time Machine from few months ago when it was working correctly. What happens when I reset or reinstall the app, it works for about 10 min correctly as it should and and then it reverts to the same problem. I am out of options and do not know what else I could do to fix this. Right now I am working on my old Mac tower G5 and CS4 where everything works as it is suppose to, but I really need to get this fixed. Can any one help or has solution for my problem? Please.

How do I keep layers from auto-expanding in the Layers Palette?

Hello all. I'm working on a rather complex piece of artwork in Illustrator CC with the latest Mac OS, with several objects on each layer.
Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.
I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)
Is it possible to disable or defeat the auto-expanding behavior? Any help would be kindly appreciated. Thanks!

Checking the Layers>Top Level Only boxes in the Layers Panel Options palette did not work to stop the triangles/arrows in the Layers palette from turning themselves down when an object is selected that is part of a sublayer.
(This is on Mavericks 9.1 using CS6.)
These two checkboxes are in the Thumbnails section of Layers Panel Options and does not affect the arrow animation on my Mac. I haven't been able to find any combination that stops this behavior, including changing the "Show Layers Only" checkbox.
FEATURE REQUEST: Adobe, an OPTION for this please? We don't all work by targeting sublayers in the layers palette, especially those of us who spend most of our time pawing through someone else's work/setup.

Pantone Plus Color Bridge Swatches don't match

I have used a Pantone Plus Color Bridge swatch (specifically Pantone 115 CP - yellow) in my inDesign CC 2014 project.
I have an illustrator .eps file, created in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 placed in the document. I have used the same Pantone Plus Color Bridge swatch in the .eps file.
When printed there is a VERY noticeable difference between the yellow swatch in the inDesign document and the Illustrator placed graphic.
It looks "correct" in the Illustrator placed graphic, i.e. it matches the swatch book but where the swatch has been used in inDesign, it seems to have shifted to an almost green hue.
Could anyone explain why this might have happened?

In your bottom capture the 187 swatch is from the the legacy Pantone library where solid color swatches were defined as CMYK. Here I'ved saved the old pre CS6 coated library and 187 is defined as a spot color but with CMYK values:
Starting with CS6 the solid swatches are Lab definitions and if you chose to convert them to process CMYK, the conversion is color managed Lab to CMYK and the results will depend on your document's CMYK profile and not a Pantone set value. If you select the swatch and look at the Color panel you can see the definition is Lab and the type is Spot:
If you don't want a color managed conversion for CMYK simulations use Pantone + Color Bridge, those swatches are defined as CMYK and the Type is Process

Yvan Koenig wrote an Applescript to create an popup menu with a true blank menu item. You can find it in Yvan's Box Account public area. Click on for_iWork'09, then for-numbers'09, then look for and download popup_with_nil.zip. Unzip the file, then open it with ScriptEditor.
Yvan's scripts include instructions (in French and English) on how and where to save the script and how to use it. I haven't read this one recently, so I can't give you any further details on it.

How to keep the layers effects when merging the layers to save a Tif?

I am loosing all my layers effects when I merge all the layers together to save the image in the tif format! How to avoid this lost? Can someone help me? this is very urgent! I have to give the file to the printer for my solo exhibition on tomorrow morning and I am turning and turning to find a solution but can't!!!Thank you very much in advance.

You do not have to flatten for the .tif format, match these settings.
If the printer is requiriing you to send a flat file, try flattening first via the layers palete flyout.
If you stil need help, a screenshot of your layers, may help shed some light on what may be going on.

Why is the layers panel greyed out when I try to use PSE9 as my external editor?

All outputs from the SCXI module are measured in differential mode. You can still mix differential and single ended measurements (if you use the remaining channels of your daq board).
The easiest way to mix modes is with virtual channels. All SCXI analog input channels will be differential, while you can make other virtual channels differential or single ended. If you don't want to use virtual channels, you can use AI Hardware Config in LabVIEW to change the mode.

Where is the "stroke options panel" in Photoshop CS6?

Where is the "stroke options panel" in Photoshop CS6? It used to be right above the layers palette in older versions of Photoshop but now it's gone. I'v been trying to find it for an hour and a half and it doesn't seem to be in any of the menus.

If you're looking for the Stroke options of a layer, you can find that by clicking the layer you have a stroke on or wish to have a stroke on, and then clicking the fx icon in the bottom of the layers panel:
And it will open the Stroke options for that layer.
Another option is by clicking Edit at the top menu, and then choosing "Stroke..." (make sure you have a layer selected).
It will then bring up a window with Stroke options on it for that layer:

Layered vector AI file with raster (Photoshop) layers included as vector layers?

I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can someone point me to a Knowledgebase article or a previous post that addresses it? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

I read your post in the PS forum as well.
Point is, just send them the unflattened AI or PS file with live type--type that one could double-click on the text layer in PS or use the type tool in AI to edit the text. That's the gist of it. Hopefully they have those fonts. If they do not have the fonts, you can outline the type in AI and it is still vector, just not editable as type.
And you likely have some client education needed. They need to understand the ramifications of using live type insofar as they need to own the exact same fonts you are using (you cannot legally just supply the fonts, they need to purchase the fonts) in order to prevent issues if they want to edit the type.
And yes, you can export as a PDF and keep the text live depending upon the effects used, else it could be rasterized. Something they evidently do not want.

Flash CS4 - Can I change the colors of the background or text that shows up in the Layers section?

I am stuggling here! I am colorblind. I need to change either the color of the background or the color of the text on the layers section on the Timeline. I simply cannot read/see what is currently showing. It is a very light blue background with white text and white dots for seeing, locking, or setting the outline color. I need to either change the text color and dots to black so I can see them, or try to change the background color to a dark blue so I can read the white text. Changing the text color would really be my preference. How do I do this? Please help. Adobe hasn't been very concerned about colorblindness when developing these products. I can barely make out all the light grey/grey/dark grey/grey stuff. Now this!

For Windows you can adjust your Theme (or download a new one and use that). This will alter the color of each layer, for example if you use Classic then it will use a very dark blue for layers that will provide higher contrast. I've downloaded other custom themes in the past that use a very dark grey for example.
(By the way, for Mac users go to Appearance in System Prefs and choose a different Highlight color - you can choose a default or custom one. That color is used for the layer color).

Photos from cameras or scans have only one layer (the 'background' layer).
You can start with that 'background' layer and duplicate it or add other layers in the editing process. For instance you can make a selection of a subject and put it on another layer; a common use is to desaturate the 'background' and to keep the color in the selected subject in your newly created layer.

Show only colors already used in the document?

Is it possiblé to see somewhere which colors I have previously used while working with a document? I think it would be nice to have the option for example for the swatches panel to only show user selected colors so that I can go back and forth in my 6-10 color palette really fast. It would be kind of a "color history". Is this possible to achieve somehow?

Image --> Mode --> Indexed color, then use the options to save and edit palettes...

I have a question about the calendar on the ipad2. I have multiple calendars in different colors. Some of the events are filled in with color. Others are just listed with a colored dot in front of the event. Any ideas why events ar showing up differently?

On mine the ones that show on a coloured background are all-day events, the ones with dots and just timed events.
