Show Locked Files in Grid

This will be my third request for this feature.
Often when I'm on location and look at the files I want to mark as "best" while looking on the camera back, I lock the file. When I get back to the computer, I would change those locked files to a high star rating, but Lightroom doesn't display the locked files. I have to go into Bridge to do this. Bridge does display the lock icon in it's grid view. So why make me jump through that hoop, when Lightroom can display the same locked icon? I first posted his suggestion in early beta 1.
Thanks,
Stan

Stan, generally locking in camera sets the image to read-only, but LR's import routine removes that status. I've asked for it to be preserved and for the import routine to have a way to filter read-only files, and agree with your request. As a workaround, I manually copy files off the card and onto the hard drive, then import from there before running my Locktastic plug-in which highlights read-only files in red.

  • Catalog not showing up - lrcat.lock file ??

hi.  it seems as though lightroom may be corrupt.  i really have no idea - please help!  this morning i was working in LR.  everything was fine.  i shut the computer down as i normally would and i just came back to an empty LR.  when i open it, i backed up but then no catalog appeared.  nothing.  when i tried to open recent, as well as several back ups, nothing will appear.  most of the menu options are light grey, meaning you can't access them (e.g. import file, open recent, the catalogs are light gray, i can't even see "about adobe ps lr").  what is this?  when i try opening a back up, nothing.
i also notice a file that comes up when i try to open a backup.  it's the same name but ends w/ lrcat.lock
    please help!!
    april

With LR closed is there a Lightroom Catalog file in the pictures>lightroom> folder? is there also a lrcat.lock file there? If there is the .lock file there delete it.
If there is a Lightroom Catalog file still there double click on it to see if LR opens.
I have never had to utilize a back up file to recover so not sure what you need to do to recover from there, maybe someone else can advise.

  • Excel 2013 - Locked file when trying to save

After a user opens an excel file from a personal network share (EMC/ISILON storage) and make changes to the file, the user get a FILE LOCKED BY <USER> (Same user that is currently editing the file).
We have also had issues where a user goes to open a file and it says it is currently in use by <USER> same user trying to open the file.
    Couple of notes of interest:
These files are on personal network shares, only the 1 user has access to the files
We have had the user completely reboot their machine when they try to open a file and get the file is locked message - Same message
Does not happen with any other Office 2013 application
Are there any special "quick View" features in Excel 2013 or Windows 7 that may be locking the file?  I have seen reference to this in older versions of Windows, but nothing for Windows 7.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi TE2011,
In regarding of the issue, please provide us more information to assist you better.

  • Show organizer files in the project bin.

In the project bin the default option is to "show open files".  But there is an additional oprion in the drop down menu "Show files from Orgainzer".  I am just learning to use elements 8 and am reading a book that describes this and see the drop down menu in my program but when I choose that option nothing is displayed.  The open file thumbnail goes away but nothing from orgaizer replaces it.  Is this a bug in the program or am I doing something wrong?   Julie

Sorry for the perhaps silly question, but did you send multiple files from the organizer to the editor? It's not just a shortcut to see all the photos in the organizer--it only shows the images you've sent over for editing. Are you saying you did send a bunch of files and they still don't appear? If you click back to the organizer do those images show the red band with a lock on it?

  • Using Terminal to Find Locked Files

    Hello all,
I am a photographer and often use the locking feature on my camera to lock certain images, ones that are good shots.  With Windows, I was able to sort by whether a file was locked or not.  However I am finding that Mavericks does not have this feature.  Therefore I have resorted to using terminal to find locked files.  However I was wondering if I could get assistance in creating a script/command that would take the results of the files I found locked and either copy or move them into a subfolder.
IE: I have an event folder called BRB-Team1VsTeam2.  I use the command "find . -flags uchg" to find the locked files.  What I need to do now is get the returned result and either copy or move into a subfolder called "locked".
I tried "find . -flags uchg && cp /locked" but I know the logic isn't quite there but I haven't played with terminal too much to know what I am doing.
So anyone have a solution to this?  Or know of an application to at least let me search/filter/sort by the file status (IE: Locked vs unlocked)?

Here is the basic idea, adjust as necessary. The -d option limits the depth into the folder you are searching. You don't need it; I just added if you want to limit the depth into subfolders.
    find /search/path -d 1 -flags uchg -exec cp {} /destination/path \;
You could roll this up in an Automator workflow, Service, or Folder Action if you want:
By checking the "Show this action when the workflow runs" you can choose the destination folder at run time. If always the same, leave it unchecked.
A Folder Action would work on the items added to a particular folder. The find command would have to be modified.
A Service could be used to pick the source folder, or to add a shortcut command.

  • Cannot Erase Locked Files on External HD

I have been trying to back up using Time Machine, but my HD is full. So I erase the contents of the HD (previous Backup) by dragging it to the recycle bin and hitting Empty Recycle bin. This process stops as it encounters 2 locked files (no idea what they are: BottX and Boot.efi. ) So these 2 files are on a previous back-up on my HD which i want to erase in order to perform a new back up with TM. Problem is, I cannot find a way to erase those files and dragging them out of the recycle bin onto the desktop and unlocking them on the desktop has not worked. Any ideas?

I've already tried that. i still get a prompt to do so, but cannot unlock those files while they are in the recycle bin. So I took them out onto the Desktop, unlocked them and nothing. They still show up locked in the bin (hence the HD).
How can I get rid of the contents pf the HD other than by drapging it to the recycle bin and clicking option Key + empty bin?

  • MS Access Record-Locking files

    Hi all,
I am having some serious issues with Lock files that won't go
away. I want to create a new project and then import boilerplate
topics into this new project. When I try to import the HTML files
from an existing project, RH goes through its little song and
dance, but then it craps out on me and crashes The imported HTML
files are in the file structure of my project, however, they are
not showing in the Topics List or Project Manager.
When I delete the lock file, I am able to import the files
one at a time from within the new project, however, once I close
the project and then reopen it, the lock file is there and I'm
    hosed.
Any ideas? We have contacted Adobe/Macromedia support and no
one seems to know how to help us.
    Thank you,
    Linda

What do you mean by Lock File? What version of RH are you
    using?
If X5, have you tried deleting the CPD and XPJ files?

  • Is there a way to find all the locked files my computer?

I am having trouble importing some files into Aperture and I discovered that one of the reasons might be that some of the files are locked. I know how to unlock them but I'd like to find the locked files and unlock them all at once. Is there a way to do that?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Lightroom crashed and now I can't open the catalog - even after deleting the lock file.

Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. Any suggestions on how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom help?

The problems mostly happen when I am using X-Y compare in Library mode. It shows black rectancles over the tops of the sections that contain the photos and these flash. They aren't always the same size, but are only on the top of the section - never big enough to completely cover the photos. Then I get anywhere from one to about four or five extra windows stacked on top of the Lightroom Icon at the bottom of my screen (I use Windows 8) opening and closing, though there isn't enough time for me to click on them and read them because my computer gets so slow that my mouse actin is delayed by a few seconds. And, to shut Lightroom down, I need to use Windows task manager because clicking on the little red box with the X in the upper right corner accomplishes nothing. I have a new Sony Vaio i5 chip and 8Gb RAM. This also hapened on my old computer, though not as often

I am getting this error for last 2-3 days. I need to start up the database manually.
Daily there is crontab schedule which will take the cold backup and startup the database. When I am checking daily morning. DBt is going into MOUNT stage instead of OPEN stage. I have check the script every thing is fine.

This is the cold_backup Script ...
    1) First, it will shutdown the db.
    2) Copy all the crb files to the backup location.CRB files? Do you mean data files, control files and spfile/pfile?
    3) Startup the db.
    4) ZIp the files.
    5) Deletes the old uncompress files.Any special reason why you use this approach? It may in fact be slower than zipping and compressing on the fly.
For example, 10GB of data files need to be be backed up. You can follow the above approach and make a 10GB copy. Then read that copied 10GB (20GB in total read at this stage) and then compress it (CPU resources needed) and then write 5GB of compressed data (assuming a 50% compression ratio was achieved).
Now compare this with reading 10GB, compressing it (CPU resources needed) and then writing 5GB. Not only is this significantly less I/O to do, but less physical space is needed too.
As for your problem - you can add some debugging code into the cold backup script to show whether any processes are using any of the Oracle datafiles prior to starting the Oracle instance. If so, then doing a process listing of the "guilty" process to determine who it is.
Also keep in mind that you also need clean starts and exits from shell scripts... in other words, what happens if a 2nd copy of the cold backup is started? Or when a previous run failed and is stuck as a background process?
In my experience, this is often the cause of the problem you're seeing - the database is started up, but the cold backup has a rogue process (remnant of some script failure) that still locks Oracle datafiles.

  • Vista problem with  Dreamweaver locking files indiscriminately - I'm not alone

I've seen questions posed in the past about Vista locking files - and I am having the exact same problem, which I posted about a while ago.  Today it happened to me again.
There appears to be no pattern as to why this happens.  Was happening to me continually until a few weeks ago. Then it stopped without me taking any course of action (just putting up with the annoying bug is all I could do).
You just have to remember to save the file under a different name to ensure that you don't lose your original file.  The original file does not appear in the File Manager window (after you close down DW, nor does it appear in the Trash bin - it's just gone).
Initially I thought it may be due to having the file open, checking it in Firefox and possibly FF taking over the file, so it gets locked by DW.  Today, I only opened the file (no checking in a browser at all) made a minor correction and I was locked out of the file.
Co-incidentally, a few hours ago, I found a website via twitter where this seems to be a known issue, but no there appears to be no response from Adobe about this bug.   http://www.sherylcanter.com/wordpress/2009/05/locked-vanishing-files-in-dreamweaver-and-in design/
Previously, I used to restart the pc and I'd lose the file altogether (as explained above).  After reading the above website, I'm going to leave DW open for a while to see if it's true about the file 'unlocking itself'.  Thankfully,, this time, I did backup the file just in case.  In the past I'd lost a fair amount of work, that I'd had to recreate - very annoying !!
I thought I'd post up a graphic of the error messages - to see if others are seeing the same thing. This will need to be bought to the attention of the DW tech team, but not sure how they can address the issue as it is a difficult thing to reproduce on a consistent basis.
AN UPDATE;  Checked for the file in Windows File manager - the index.html page is not listed in the sitefolder.  Back to Dreamweaver, you can still see the locked file, do a refresh and the index.html file has disappeared.
I open index2.html (the resaved version of index, html), rename it to index.html and it allows me to do so this time round.
PS:  At the same time I opened inner.html, made a change, no problems with the file locking.
    Weird !!
    Further update:
Just found a reply by David Powers here:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/437034?tstart=30
I had tried to do a search using similar keywords when this started happening to me months ago - couldn't find anything at the time.
I even posted to a private forum where people should have known about this issue - but it was never responded to.
Will see if this fix works for me....  though I can't understand why it only does this occasionally - if someone needs to take control of the folder, surely it should be happening all the time.

    Nadia,
Although Dreamweaver "reveals" and demonstrates it, I think that it's a deep-seated Vista permissions issue.
It's random and occurs on files I create from scratch and files I receive from others.
Full permissions for every single user and group on my PC doesn't work.
"Take ownership" by my account or Administrator or Administrators or System or Everyone or Authenticated Users doesn't work.
    UAC deactivation doesn't work.
Command prompt to unset attributes (like read-only) says it ISN'T read-only, but the right-click properties show that it is.
    Only this works so far.
Activate Vista's Administrator account (be sure to then set a password for it).
Log in as Administrator, and the issue no longer occurs.
Here's a link for instructions on how to activate the Vista Administrator account.
Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows Vista [The How-To Geek]
I'm open and hopeful for a better solution, but for now I've got work to do, so I'm using Dreamweaver logged in as Administrator.

  • InDesign CS2 files not creating .idlk lock file

We are currently experiencing a random issue where sometimes InDesign files that have been opened and saved say they are Read Only and have to be dumped out to the desktop and replaced on the server in order to update the changes.  I have noticed that when this crops up that for some reason the .idlk lock file is not being created in these instances.  It doesn't seem to matter if it is a Leopard or Tiger user, nor anything with time of day, etc.  We are using InDesign CS2 in conjunction with InCopy CS2 on a Windows Server with ExtremeZ-IP for AFP services to the Mac users.  As far as I can tell, the time between the clients and server is in synch as well.  Permissions are a non-issue as the user has full-control to the server and subsequent folders.  Any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks,
    Brian

Probably the only way to do this is by disabling the app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel lines. InDesign then shows any error dialogs, so you may be in for some OK clicking, but I don't see any other way.

  • Show hidden files won't stick

    Hi,
I'm setting up an i7 Mac Mini with Mavericks and trying to show hidden files. Using Terminal I do the old
$ defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    $ killall Finder
But hidden files are still invisible.
When I try to read back it reports:
The domain/default pair of ([...]com.apple.finder, AppleShowAllFiles) does not exist
I've opened the plist up in XCode and every time I add it there it disappears as soon as I issue the `killall Finder` command.
Anybody know why this might be?

    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:

You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.

  • Unable to empty trash due to external USB HDD's locked files and no permission?

    Hello.
I was doing a major cleanup with an external Seagate USB HDD due to low free disk spaces. It has two partitions/drives: FAT32 (using it for on other non-Apple machines like Windows 2000 SP4) and HFS [Time Machine only]). I threw about 30,000 items (copied from an old Windows 2000 SP4 machine's HDD with NTFS back a few years ago) from FAT32 partition/drive into the trash can. However, I am having problems emptying it. Most of them were emptied, but some were left behind.
This four years old MacBook Pro's Mac OS X 10.5.8's Trash dialog boxes said "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items." and "Emptying the Trash cannot be completed because "<filename>" is locked. To empty everything in the Trash, including locked items, press the Options key while selecting Empty Trash". http://i.imgur.com/XFBfF.gif for the screen shots/captures of the error messages.
I tried holding Option key and emptying trash, but that didn't help/work. I used Finder to look at the files, and they had locked status. So I unlocked them which worked, but I can't delete the empty folders/directories, and these don't have locked.
What's going on and how do I empty the trash? Thank you in advance.

Hi again, are there maybe hidden files in those folders?

Not that I saw through Terminal's ls -all and Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine. Someone told me to try secured empty trash and it did more, but not fully.
I used the administrator (sudo) account in Mac OS X 10.5.8's Terminal to delete the trash, but it still failed:
    $ sudo rm -rf *

I tried deleting this on an old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine and it had no problems! Weird. I wonder why Mac OS X 10.5.8 failed to delete it through its Finder and Terminal (sudo rm -rf command).
