Show long format date in menue bar
how do i get the long format -- i.e., Sat. Mar 5, 08 AND the time -- to show in my menu bar? as the help menu suggested, i pulled up the date and time window and specified the long format in international but the menu bar still only shows Mon and the time but no date. many thanks, steven totosy
Thank you. I will try this method when I have the courage. There was a cut and past technique with time and date in international preferences which I read as a tip which I could easily do with my MacBook Pro but not with my wife's. I can't find that reference now.

Airport Disk Utility does not show up as icon on menu bar
Since I upgraded to Leopard, the icon for Airport Disk Utility which used to appear in the menu bar at the top of the screen has gone away. Any ideas please? Perhaps it's a coincidence but after the install of Leopard, the Airport Disk Utility application disappeared! I reinstalled it from the Airport Express Base Station SW and it has appeared in Applications again. I can start it up, select 'Show Airport Disks in the Menu Bar' but they don't appear ...
Any ideas please?I believe the disk Utility is now incorporated under FINDER/ SHARED / Airport network name. There should be an ejection/mount arrow beside the disk name. In my case I have two USB disks attached 1: "My Book" [NSTF format, 2: G-DRIVE [MAC format]. The "My Book" always mounted automatically but the"G-DRIVE" would not.
The work around was to
1. Connect the G-DRIVE with a wire directly to your computer [I used the firewire]. It will mount and give you an icon under FINDER/DEVICES. The hard drive was actively working on something for about 2 minutes (you could hear it).
2. After the G-DRIVE hard drive stopped making noise. I Ejected it with the arrow beside the Disk name in the DEVICES Section.
3. Then I plugged the G-DRIVE back into the Hub connected to the single Airport Extreme USB connection.
4. Now both Hard Drives showed up under SHARED /Network name With the Eject arrow beside them.
5. I verified there use by transferring a file and using Backup 3.1.2 (ver374) to backup my documents to the G-DRIVE hard drive.
Note: I had to go this once when I installed Leopard 10.5 and had to do it again when IK upgraded to 10.5.1
Hope this helps -

How to show active page in Spry Menu Bar using images
Hi,
I have already read this answer "how to show active page in spry menu bar" but I am using images, not text. I have mouse-over and mouse-out working in the Spry Menu Bar using image.png and image-over.png, but I cant' figure out how to get the image-over.png to appear on the active page since the spry menu bar is locked on the individual pages. (I tried to put it in an editable comment, but spry wouldn't go for it. :-)
Any ideas. Here is the code:

(System Preferences - Keyboard - Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar
This question is directed to eliminating the use of the physical keyboard to login with passwords as added protection against potential keylogging.
Does anyone know (for sure) if the OS X virtual keyboard viewer would be safer to use for the above purpose than typing on the physical keyboard?
Thank you!Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Not sure why but the date does not show in my menu bar. I've been to System Preferences and selected Show Date and Time in Menu Bar but only the day and time shows, not the date, e.g. April 18. Any ideas?
Yeah, your right. That's a new feature in Snow Leopard. Instead, got to http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatmenus/ and download istat menus.
When it installs in system preferences, disable all the menus except for "Date and Time" By editing the "menubar layout" you get very extensive options for how to display your date and time. -
I would like to add the date to the day and time display on the menu bar. Is there a way to do this? (I mean on the nenu bar itself - not the pulldown.) This is with OS 10.3.9
Thanks for any help.Color me confused, and a naive new Mac user (I'm a Solaris / Linux guy by profession, but the FreeBSD under the hood of OS X caught my eye), BUT:
What's up with System Preferences having options TITLED:
"Show Date and Time" "in the menu bar" with a variety of settings - and yet, in NO case does it ever actually display the DATE?? Okay, have it open as a window (or select the drop down), and you can see it, but... c'mon? I thought Apple was all about intuitive and logical UI / feature sets.
I'm just plain confused, by this, as well as the whole "July 17" iCal thing...

How can I make my iPod show up in the iTunes menu bar?
When I plug in my iPod nano (2GB) 2nd Generation it doesn't show up on the left side of my screen in the iTunes Menu Bar. I don't have the original cord, saying that I got it awhile ago, how can I make it show up?
There is no content on my iPod currently, and I have tryed resetting all of the Settings and even taken all of the music off of it, but it is still not showing up. Do you have any suggestion son how to make it show up or even have the computer recognize that it is plugged in? -Thanks for your time!
P.S.- I have also tryed plugging it into a Windows computer and a Mac.See Multirow Bookmarks Toolbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/6937
You can't place bookmarks on a new toolbar. You can only place a bookmark on the toolbar that has the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" on it. -
How do I change the time format in the menu bar?
I've gone to system preferences - language - date and time, and customized the time for 24 hour time with no colon between HH and MM. The menu bar time display doesn't reflect this:-(
There are some 5 year old posts about this not working, but nothing recent. You may have already these suggestions....

How do you display BOTH the time and DATE in the menu bar?
Greg
Here is one way: Date and Time in the Menu Bar (10.3, 10.4).
If you are not keen on the command line, you could try this from macosxhints: 10.4: Easily add the date to the menubar which I think some people have used successfully. -
The area behind the menu bar and the line above it, all the way across to the minimize, maximize and close icons is not opaque and the desktop and desktop icons show through. There is nothing I can find in Firefox Help to change this. Also, it would be nice if the menu bar could be made larger and more visible -- and if I could delete "Yahoo!" from the menu bar, leaving just the important items (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help). Any suggestions?

Cannot display date in menu bar
For some reason, my computer (in OS 10.3.9) will only display the date & time in the floating window (by checking the box to display date & time and selecting the button to display in window thru system preferences), but won't display the date & time in the menu bar (even though it should since the menu bar button is selected in the system preferences).
This seems to be a bug in OS 10.3.9 that has not been fixed yet. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it?
ThanksHi ndl! And Welcome To Discussions!
From March 2006 MacAddict magazine p.56
Open Terminal
At the prompt, type or copy & paste
defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "MMMM d, y hh':'mm':ss' 'a"
Press Return
Then type killall SystemUIServer
Press Return again, and your menu bar will disappear.
Click anywhere on your Desktop to reload it.
This setting only affects your User Account; other users on the Mac will not see the change.
To restore your menu bar to normal, repeat the process, omitting the MMMM d, y part in the first Terminal command, like so:
defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "hh':'mm':ss' 'a"
