Show mail attachments as icons

How to permanently show mail attachments as icons?

There is no permanent way to do this.  Control-click lets you adjust it for the message in view, when acting upon the inline attachment image file.

  • Mail attachments NOT showing in header as in Snow Leopard

This has to deal with incoming attachments.
Snow Leopard Maikl has a line in the header that said "1 Attachement, 534KB"  and a grey disclosure triangle that would show the attachments as icons.
I cannot find this anywhere in Lion Mail.  Does anyone know how to activate this?  It's a real pain in the a s s to sift through the body of the email for attachments when just clicking the disclosure triangle was so much more efficient.

    Interesting.
I have such this info displayed on my emails with attachments.
Do you see the "Details" thingy at the upper right hand corner of the message window?
    If so, click on it.

  • Mail attachments Icon not showing in list

I have just noticed that when a email message is received it doesn't show the paper clip icon in the attachments column until after the message window has been opened then closed.
This is a worry as I normally discard messages from unknown sources that come with attachments.
    Can anyone please assist
    Thanks

The only way an application should be able to affect a menu on the right side of the menu bar is if the application's menus overrun it. I noticed that Mail's menus take up slightly more space than Safari's, so that very well may be the problem. What's the horizontal resolution of your monitor? Maybe the OS updates added some items that pushed the modem status to the left and "under" Mail's Help menu.
Are there any menus on the right side of the menu bar that you don't really need? If so, try removing them by holding down the command (Apple) key and dragging the menu off the menu bar.

  • Can Mail display an icon to show me messages that have attachments...

Can Mail display an icon to show me messages that have attachments... I have tons of emails organized... sometime I have to find an attachment and I have to key through each message to see it there is an attachment.
Is there a way to just show me like entourage or other programs do?

Check under the View menu for an Attachment option and select it. That should place a new column in the message browser window with an icon if there is an attachment.

  • Mail stopped displaying attachments, shows generic full-screen icon

I have been an iPhone user since 2008, and until recently, never had a problem with mail attachments. I know how they work: I need to tap to download them first, sometimes I even need to download the entire message, etc. I have successfully viewed thousands of attachments over the years.
However, a few months ago it just stopped working. JPG, Word, Excel, PDF, etc., attachment are shown at the end of the message with their appropriate icons, and I can tap on them, as before. Tapping will get me to the attachment view screen, as before. However, what's different is that the "attachment view screen" is just a light grey gradient with a generic document icon, a file name, and a description of the file type (see below).
This can happen in all of my mail accounts, so it shouldn't be a server setting. But there are differences:
On Gmail, images usually display correctly, but not Office files
    On Exchange, nothing displays correctly
When I forward the mail to myself in order to fix the issue, the following may happen:
Forwarding an affected message from my iPhone will just kill the attachment. It will be replaced by a content-free HTML file
Forwarding the affected message from my at work PC to my Gmail account will solve the problem, I will be able to open the message on my iPhone, even if it's a Microsoft Office file
Forwarding an affected message from my PC to my Exchange account doesn't solve the problem.
This looks like a bug. Any idea why it suddenly appeared recently? Anyone with a similar experience? Any solutions?
    Thanks a lot, everyone!

    SOLVED!
The culprit was "Spaces" -- I had my work apps in one Space and my others in a second Space.
When Spaces got in the way, I disabled it. That's when the windows disappeared!
Note to Apple: When "Spaces" is disables, allow all windows to open in the "null" window!

  • Mail.app Sent mail attachments disappear (blue ? block icon instead)

    Hi,
I have been having this problem for some while now. When I look at my sent mail (stored on my mac) attachments randomly are not present and messages only show a blue block icon instead.
This happens with two accounts I have setup, me.com and gmail. Both are setup as imap. It happens with different kinds of files, pdfs, .doc, excel, etc.
I have rebuilt the mailboxes, repaired permissions, etc. but the problem persists.
    Anyone experiencing anything like this?

Sounds to me like a problem on the receiving end, or that the mail server is damaging the e-mail somehow to cause a problem on the receiving end.
When you send rich-text e-mail, it is normal that there will be two copies of the message in the e-mail...  one in HTML form and one in plain text.  The e-mail client is supposed to show the appropriate one, and allow the user to view a different one if desired.  (See the various "... Alternative" choices under Mail's View -> Message submenu.)
One solution would be to send plain text e-mails only.  Mail's rich text e-mails are HTML, and Outlook can't handle HTML e-mail worth a darn.

  • Default Mail attachments to "View As Icon"

Is there a way to default attachments to "View As Icon" instead of previewing them in Mail? Specifically MP3s, since there's no way to drag the preview player directly into iTunes. I know I can just right click to change, but I get a lot of emails with MP3s attached and need to pull them straight into playlists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

"Iconizer" or "attachment tamer" could be your answer.

  • PDF mail attachments are shown as question mark instead of preview or icon.

When I receive a mail with PDF attachment, I can see paper clip on the header of mail. This is fine. However, Apple Mail does not show as preview or icon. I can see only a box with border and a question mark sign "?" in the middle. If I click the "?" symbol, preview opens the PDF attachment properly.
It is fine for other mail attachment such as .DOC or .JPG. Either I can see preview or as icon.
Is there anybody who knows the solution of this problem?
P.S. I use OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 but problem was existing also with Mavericks.

No, I don't think so. Same attachment is shown properly on the my colleague's Mac who is another recipient for same e-mail. There is something wrong about my Mac.

    Hi,
What type of account did you setup in Outlook? Exchange, IMAP or POP3?
Please go to the Webmail site, check if the attachments are still ok.
Kindly create a new profile to setup the account again, check if the attachments are alright:

  • E mail attachments that are deleted show up in all images or all documents; how can I prevent this form happening?

e mail attachments that are deleted seem to still show up in the all images or all documents files; how do I keep this from happening?  If an attachment is deleted I don't want to continue to keep a copy anywhere.  Thanks.

I know this is almost a year later but I have been searching for a solution to the same problem you had. How did you fix this issue? I can see that something pops up on this site right before a transition. Why does that happen and not show in the preview and how do you fix it? Any help is appreciated!

  • I can only see the welcome to mail screen (iphone 5).  I have set up mail successfully because it shows mail icon with messages.  But I cant get into the mail box!

I can only see the welcome to mail screen (iphone 5).  I have successfully set up the mail because it shows mail icon with messages (104 messages).  But I cant get into the actual mail box to read them.  Pls help!

The received emails should show in two locations:
    1. In the All Inboxes tab of Mail.
    2. The Inbox for each mail account,
If your emails are not showing in these locations try quitting the mail app and then reset your iPhone.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal.
To reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Force Mail (Yosemite) to display all attachments as icons all the time?

In Yosemite, I need to get rid of Mail's previews of attachments that appear in outgoing email as the previews seem to cause problems for some of my mail recipients. How can I force Mail to display all attachments as icons? Currently the only way is to right click each attachment every time - it's a waste of time to do this all day long.

Mail only previews single-page documents. They should be simply an attachment to the recipient. If they are problematic, then be sure you select the Edit menu, Attachments > Always send Windows friendly .... If there is still a problem then compress the attachment before sending it - CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Compress from the context menu.

  • Want attachments as icons

When sending attachments via Mail, why do some show up as an icon and others show up inline. When I'm compsing an e-mail I would like any attachments I add to be represented as an icon that my recipiant can click on an open. Some attachments seem to work that way, others do not. I can't find a setting or anyway to get all attachments to show up as icons.
Can anyone offer help or explain why it can't be done. Using the help feature in Mail has proven to be useless.
    Thanks in advance.

It makes it an Icon on YOUR screen, but the recipient still gets it as an embedded image.
    That's why I wrote this,
On their end, there isn't anything you can do except go to their computer and tell their email client to display attachments as attachments.
The reason their email client embeds the attachment is because they use a crappy email client, likely Outlook. It was designed to work solely with an Exchange server, then modified to handle what they call, "internet email."
You can zip the files and attach with whatever formatting you want, or you can try using plain text, with attachments added to the end of message.  That works with some versions of Outlook.

  • I can't open mail attachments on iPhone or iPad2

Since I updated my iPhone 4 and iPad2 to iOS5.0 I cannot open any mail attachments. I get the arrow to download. I click it, the file counts down the kb and then the screen flashes and that is it. I can't hold down the file and get the "open is" option. Nothing appears. I'm not sure that iOS5 is the problem but it happened about the same time. Can anyone help?

Attachments that show as a bold downward pointing arrow in a gray rectangle in a dotted box have not yet been downloaded to your phone (usually because they are large). Tapping such an icon should download the attachment if you are connected to the internet and your mail server is reachable. Once downloaded, they should appear as normal (which would depend on the attachment type).
This is the "Using iPhone" forum, so I said phone, but the same applies on an iPad.
