Show markers on exported clip

How can I show markers (specifically edit/cut markers) in an exported clip. I know they exist because they show up in compressor, however I cannot get them to show in fcp when I reimport the clip? any suggestions?

You can't. Those markers only show up when you send to Compressor. They're not actually markers on the exported file. Compressor is actually calling those up from the FCP sequence. They're not markers like chapter markers. FCP doesn't read chapter markers either BTW. Those are for DVD applications.

  • How can I export clip markers?

Is there any way to export clip markers? When I export to a QuickTime movie and select All Markers neither my timeline nor my clip markers are visible when I bring the exported clip into Final Cut or Compressor.

Both of my markers are chapter markers and I have selected "All Markers", but when I bring the exported clip into Final Cut I see no markers.

  • "Show Photo Settings", my clip is black

De Javous all over agan. I am using HD 6.03, and have been for quite a while. Back a couple of years ago there was a software flaw the was fixed, now it has come back to haunt me.
When i have a clip I want to modify, I go into "Show Photo Settings", my clip is black, why is this happining again?

    Hello, Paul,
Yes, my workflow is similar to yours. I think the main thing is to do the photos first and the music last, as you are doing.
I put in my videos first, cropping out the parts I know I won't need. Then I put in the photos. I know that I will eventually have to crop the video clips again to get what I want with the photos, but initially I just put the photos in the correct order. Then I 'fix' the photos to be the right size, duration, etc.
Next I adjust/crop the video clips and move the photos to their more correct place. If I want the audio to play from the video clip, but over a photo instead of the audio, I make that correction. I do that by either extracting the audio and pasting over the photo, or using WireTap to record the audio from the video clip and just laying the audio clip under the photo and deleting the video clip. I lock all this type of audio clip to its corresponding photo.
Then I evaluate where I want/need Ken Burns effects on my photos and add that. Sometimes I use Photo-to-Movie for a panning of a large group where I want to title the people.
Next I do titles and transitions.
    Last I add music.
Sometimes if the movie has a lot of short audio clips or many video clips and/or photos, I find that the playback becomes slow or stilted or the audio continues and the video lags.
If I have done all the editing I need to on the clips, I then export the movie as Full-Quality QuickTime. This of course results in a movie that is one long single clip, but it plays audio and video correctly. It can still be edited, but it is a bit tricky to do so, since the audio and video tracks are now one.
If my movie is long, I usually add chapter markers to the original iMovie, just to know where they should be.
I then put the new QuickTime movie into a new iMovie project and use that as the movie I burn to DVD. I add music to it, add my chapter markers and then I am ready to use it in my iDVD project. Having placed chapter markers in the original iMovie makes it much easier to create those markers in the QT iMovie. You can open both iMovies at the same time and use the time codes for each marker.
Most of my movies are of family videos and photos for the year. Each one is nearly two hours. Some years require several DVDs, depending on the activities for that time; some years everything fits onto one DVD. I even went back to the earliest family photos we had.....from the 1890s...and have made DVDs of each side of the family as a history for our kids and grandkids.
    Hope this is helpful!
PS. Matti's comment about deleting the trash is absolutely correct....I forgot to add that in my first reply

  • A video clip import for a new project keeps showing up as a clip from an older project.

So here's the issue, I succesfully imported and trimmed 95% of the video clips from my GoPro today. However, when I upload the piece de resistance, it shows up as a clip from an older project that I've already deleted. Despite showing me the older clip in the imported section, I can still play approximately 1/3 of the actual, new clip. Problem is it stops and doesn't allow me to work with the remaining footage. I've tried importing it straight from the SD card, copying it to the desktop first, etc. No luck. Any advice?

    So, it's Photoshop CS3.
Anyway, from what I understood, you open the photo directly form the disk in Photoshop. That is, you don't use Lightroom to open the photo in Photoshop. It just doesn't work this way. As I said above, Lightroom has no way of knowing when to import a photo that has been saved in Photoshop.
If you insist on using Jpegs for derivative files, your best way to go is indeed using Synchronize.
However, I'd advice to use a lossless format, like TIFF or PSD. Why leave image quality on the table (as Jeff Schewe likes to say)? Storage is cheap and you're editing only your best photos in Photoshop anyway.
And as an additional benefit, you can automate the process of importing derivatives:
Configure what file type to use in Prefs: TIFF or PSD, bit depth, color space etc.
Select an image in Lightroom and hit Ctrl+E.
The derivative file is created in the chosen format and opened in Photoshop.
    Edit and save in Photoshop.
Voila! Your edited derivative is already in Lightroom.

  • Why is file size of exported clip so large?

I have a movie clip in MPEG-4 format, 3 minutes in duration, 720x400. I ripped it (using Handbrake) from a DVD I own. Let's call this clip Clip A. I wanted it to be smaller, so I used Quicktime Pro 6.5.2 to export it. Let's call the exported clip Clip AE (E for exported). Clip AE has these properties:
    Compression: Sorenson Video 3
    Quality: High
    Frame rate: 15
    Width x Height: 310 x 200
    Sound format: QDesign Music 2
    Sample rate: 22,050 kHz
    Channels: Mono
    File Size: 5.5 MB
Great. That's just what I wanted. Now I go to a second movie clip I have in MPEG-4 format. This Clip B is only 90 seconds in duration, 720x400. I export it to Clip BE. Clip BE has these properties:
    Compression: Sorenson Video 3
    Quality: High
    Frame rate: 15
    Width x Height: 310 x 200
    Sound format: QDesign Music 2
    Sample rate: 22,050 kHz
    Channels: Mono
    FILE SIZE: 25.8 MB
In both exports I set the Key Frame Rate and Data Rate to automatic. So, everything is the same except Clip BE, which is half as long in duration as Clip AE, is 5 times larger in file size.
I'm no expert at using QT Pro, but this result just does not make sense to me. Why is the second exported clip 5 times larger than the first one. I wanted to email both of them to my wife at work as a little surprise, but the second one is way too big for my email account. How can I get the file size of that second clip down to the size of the first one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
iMac G5, iBook (dual USB) G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The second clip probably has more detail or motion than the first.
Open Clip AE and choose "Get Info." Note the data rate of the video.
Now export clip B again, but instead of setting the data rate to automatic, set it to the same number as Clip AE's data rate.
You will lose video quality, but the file should come out smaller.

  • The periphery of the picture on the clip is cropped? Smaller on the exported clip?

When I take a clip to the project liberary it becomes cropped and the periphery of the exported clip is cropped, can you help please?
    Thank you

This is probably the Image Stabilization, which works by zooming in.
You can turn it off by clicking the little gear icon in your project clip and going to the Clip tab of the Inspector. Turn off image stabilization, or reduce the zoom level.

  • Is there a way to set markers at the clipping points?

    Hi
is there a way to set markers at the clipping points?
    thanks

Don't think you can go any lower than that in any normal design program as there always needs to be a common base reference for all internal calculations like image resizing, font rasterization etc. and traditioanlly it has always been assumed to be 72 DPI. Still, I don't think that it is a problem. Any such stuff no doubt would be handled by the printer driver of the device, meaning it would reinterpret your 72 DPI graphic as 20 DPI and map each "pixel" 1:1. You may just need to design at smaller absolute dimensions...

  • How to add chapter markers to every clip in a timeline?

Is it possible to add chapter markers to every clip in a timeline without going 1 by 1?  I have over 1,000 clips in the timeline and I need to add a chapter marker for every clip.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not. I've been using Compound clips, and I wanted chapter markers at the start of each compound clip, with the text in the marker set to the name of the compound clip.
I developed a keystroke workflow to do this, then used an application called "Keyboard Maestro" to record the keystrokes and reply them each time I press a hotkey. I had to add some timing delays, but once I did, it works great. All I have to do is press the hotkey, and it moves to the start of the next clip and adds the chapter marker. I even created another keystroke that does this 10 times in a row, so I only had to press it once for each 10 clips (because of timing issues, you can't just press the hotkey 10 times quickly).
If you're interested in more details, I can supply them, but I won't bother unless this sounds like something that might help you.

  • Exporting Clips for use in another application

I want to export clips from Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.1 retain the clips in Final Cut and be able to use the clips in premiere.  Any ideas.

I copied the entire Final Cut library from one hard drive to another before trying the consolidate function.  I used the consolidate function and ingested the media copies into Adobe Prelude and backed that up to another hard drive.  I am at the beginning of making a documentary which has turned into a huge project.  I am working across platforms but have decided the end product will be in Adobe Premiere.  I have decided this because many of the people I am working with being editors and graphic designers work with Adobe products.  I like Final Cut Pro X but people in the industry have reacted against it thus forcing these decisions.

  • Why is the SmoothCam (smooth cam) filter not applying to an exported clip?

I have a clip that required some masking (which my graphics guy did on his PC). After importing the masked clip into FCP, I can't get the SmoothCam filter to apply to it. SmoothCam works great on the original shot from the camera (an MXF file), but not on the clip after it was "tweaked outside" of FCP.
Does anyone know if SmoothCam has a limitation on what types of files it will work on (ie only raw footage files, MXF files, etc) or is there perhaps some metadata in the raw file that's needed for SmoothCam?
We had tried exporting a smoothed version before I gave it to him for masking but he couldn't open it on his PC (don't get me started on that! haha).
He did a wonderful job on the masking (using AfterEffects) but the clip still requires the SmoothCam. And SmoothCam is working just fine (I can still apply it on "raw" clips). But when I try to apply it to this "outside exported" clip, it just doesn't do anything...no error, no indication of analyzing the clip or even trying, nothing at all happens.

I apologize. I posted this question a little prematurely. After looking through the FCP manual, I found this quote:
+Note: The SmoothCam filter can be applied only to clips that refer to QuickTime+
+media files. Also, the SmoothCam filter compensates only for the original video+
+within a QuickTime media file; the results of filter and motion parameter settings are+
+ignored. Make sure filters applied to a clip are ordered so that the SmoothCam filter+
    +is applied first.+
I decided to post this reply in case anyone else came across this issue. Basically, it appears that SmoothCam will only work on QuickTime files (.mov I guess?). My graphics guy had made the file as an MP4 (again..don't get me started I opened the his MP4 in QT and re-exported it as a .mov and SmoothCam is analyzing it right now! So all is well.
Sorry for the almost unnecessary post. Feel free to comment to expand/clarify my findings.
    Thanks!

  • Exporting clips from one file

I am trying to export clips in Quicktime format onto a cd for someone else to edit.
I imported a sequence from FCE that appeared as one clip in iMovie 06. I split the clips. There are 32 separate clips now. I need to copy these onto a cd so that someone else can edit them into a movie. When I tried copying them, the clips appeared as one file NOT 32 separate clips.

.. a bit exotic, that workflow.. ? why not using FCE for that task..
    in iM:
select/'highlight' the clip, goto export, check the box 'selected clips only', choose FullQuality or whatever quality.. done.
note: a CD fits 3secs of dv.. probably a dataDVD is better, an external Harddrive best practice..

  • My current project in the events library has gone into list mode. ie a single clip on the left, one above another, so showing only about 7 clips. how can I get it back into normal horizontal mode

My  current project in the Events Library has gone into list mode. ie a single clip on the left one above another, so showing only about 7 clips. How can I get it back into normal horizontal mode?

That's about what it's supposed to look.
How do You want it to look ?
    a. You can change places by using this
    b. May be You changed this top right symbol of an hard disk ?
    c. or changed the number of frames to be viewed ?
    d. OR - it can (at least for me) be so that You think of how it looks in iPhoto. (To me a very common mistake)

  • Batch Exporting Clips from timeline in Final Cut Pro X

So ive looked at many forums and many sources and I know this isn't the first time this question has been asked.....but I was
wondering how I would be able to batch export clips from the timeline (about 100 or so) to use as Content for VJing (live media manipulation). Is there a simple way to acomplish this in Final Cut Pro X... I have heard remours that you can cut multiple clips in Quicktime Pro 7 but im not sure how eficiant this is, I also have heard that this is allot easier to acomplish in Final Cut Pro 7. If anybody knows a simple (and quick way) to acomplish this Im all ears!

If you want to batch export parts of your project, I believe that you'd better served by an external utility, like QTCoffee. Export your movie to Quicktime, and then use QTCoffee to create the various bits in one, er... batch.

  • Exporting clips for Powerpoint

I'm trying to export clips to use in a Powerpoint presentation which I thought would be relatively straightforward to do but I'm having trouble with the whole exporting thing..!
Could anybody guide me on what I need to be exporting the clips as because when I tried it the first time and took the files over on a cd to the PC, it didnt recognise them. Do I export from just Quicktime or should I be doing the Quicktime conversion? And do I need to have a certain type of Quicktime Player available on my PC or can it be played from my Windows Media Player?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers x

    hi
thanks for your suggestions. I do have QuickTime installed on my PC and so far I have tried to export them as avi files but when I put it on the PC, an error came up saying 'a codec is required to play this file' (on Windows Media Player). I've just been reading up on some stuff about codecs and file formats on the web and manual but it's a little confusing..!
how would I transcode them to MPEG-1? Also, when the WMP failed to play the clip I tried to open it with the QuickTime Player - it came up but the image quality was quite reduced and there didnt appear to be any sound..is there something else I should be doing with my video sequences before I export them?
thanks again for your help! you might be able to tell I'm pretty new to all of this!
