Show member alias in a business rule RTP instead of member names

Hello,
Is there a way that by default in an RTP the user gets to see Aliases instead of member names? This is not very user friendly.
Regards,

I think in the earlier version that was a preference setting which allows alias in member selection. (not in 11.1.2.2, i checked that)

  • Business rule to use page member on form

    Hi all,
I need to create a business rule which uses a page member on the form. Created a RTP variable and used it in the Rule.Attached the rule and selected "use members on the form" and "Hide Prompt".But, Is still asking for prompt. How to unhide the prompt?

Is it a calc manage rule or an EAS business rule, which version of planning.

  • Business Rule RTP issue

    Hello,
Currently I am seeing end users intermittently having issues on Business Rules. THe problem is that the description/prompt strings do not display when a user launches a rule. This seems to occur in both SmartView and IE8.
Has anyone experienced this sort of issue before ?
    Cheers
    Chris

I had some weird issues where the pop-up wasn't actually being displayed on the monitor, but it was opening (I think it was actually on 11.1.1.3).  We found this out by someone experiencing the problem, and then adding a second monitor for another purpose and the box would show up on the second monitor.  We ended up deleting the Excel items in the registry, and when Excel is reopened it rebuilt them and the popup worked, another option would have been to add a second monitor temporarily to move it back to the main monitor.

  • Execution order: Business Rule vs. Dynamic Member Formula

    Hi,
I have a problem with a calc rule that calculate percentage of a list of account in comparison with other account (Ce10) as below
FIX (list of account restricted here, @IDescendants(YearTotal),....)
    "Percentage"
    (IF (@ISUDA(Account,"Ce10"))
"Percentage" = "NA CE"/"NA CE"->"CE10"; //Here the percentage member and "NA CE" member in the same dimension
    ENDIF)
    ENDFIX
When I run the rule, the result is ok with the Months. But in the Quater and YearTotal, it's automatically aggregate to a wrong result as the YearTotal is dynamic calc (e.g: Jan: 10%; Feb: 10%; Mar: 10% => Q1: 30%). So I thought it because the Rule is executed first (Q1=10%) but after that, the dynamic aggregation of Year is executed so Q1 is aggregated as 30%.
So how to fix Q1 = 10% as expected result. I did study on two pass calculation but it seem can not apply on this isssue. I searched for "back calculation" also but I still didn't find any solution for this.
    Please help me on this.
    Thanks.

Thanks JM for quick responding. The problem here is "Percentage" is not a account's member.
To make the question more clearly, I'll explain the rule:
    There's a list of account A: A1, A2,...,An
    and a list of account B: Ce10, Ce20, ..., Ce90
There is a mapping n-1 between these two lists. For example, A1, A2 is mapped to Ce10, A3 to A5 is mapped to Ce20 and so on. I do it by assigning UDA (e.g: A1 {Ce10}, A2 {Ce10}...)
And the rule is used to calculate percentage of accounts of list A in comparison with equivalent account in list B. So the percentage can not be account member. It's the reason why I can not use member formula and two pass calc here.

  • How do I FIX members in a Business Rule to those set in outline security?

    Let's say..
    - I've granted write access to one user a branch of members in one dimension.
    - I include a Level 0 selection of that dimension in a data form in the Page view, which correctly allows input only to those members for that user.
How can my BR fix only on those bottom level members appearing in the dataform?
    J

    Hi,
one possibility is to create RTPs in your Business Rule, insert these (global variables) in your fix statement, connect the Business Rule to your dataform and check in business rule properties tab the boxes for "Run on Save", "Use Members on Data Form" and "Hide Prompt".
Then your users can only select members in pages for that they have access rights and the business rule calculates the selected member combination.
    Kind regards

  • Business Rules : Unable to create a global variable (Fixed)

    Hello all,
    I try to create a global variable in order to use it in a business rule;
    I selected an outline.
    I chose the type "Member"
    I chose the dimension "Period"
I clicked on the lookup button in front of the default value and chose the member "January"
Finally, I chose the usage type "Run-Time prompt" and type in a prompt string.
Unfortunately, when I click on save, I get an error message : Variable value ["January"] is invalid.
If I try to do not specified a default member, it is possible to save.
But when I launch the business rule and specified a member in the the prompt message, I get an error 1060120 : OLAP error.
I cannot figure out what's going wrong, so any help is welcomed.
    Thanks,

    Thanks for your answer,
I finally figure out what's going wrong.
This issue is due to the fact that the outline is configured to accept duplicated names.
When I create the same outline but with duplicated names turn off, every thing goes perfectly.
I don't know why the outline accepts duplicated name.
In fact, I do not understand what are the reasons for using duplicate name...

  • Business rules and calculation manager

    Hi ,
Could anyone pls tell me the difference between the calculation manager and business rules?

Calculation manager is a web component that is designed to manage business rules from a web interface. It is enabled to build calculations also using a graphic interface, although this mode is more suitable for simple calculations than for complex ones. Calculation manager allows you also to use complex templates that you can customize with prompts in order to adapt them to each rule without being force to change the code. Basically it is an evolution of the essbase business rules macro function. Once a business rule is created it has to be deployed in order to be used with planning applications. The deploy activity copies the rule on the database, both in the calculation manager tables in and the planning tables.
Business rules are instead essbase artifacts. They aren't available any more from version 11.1.2.2 on.
In versions older than the 11.1.2.2 you were forced to use calculation manager for epma applications, while essbase business rules were used in classic applications. In terms of calculations there is no difference between the two technologies, they behave exactly in the same way. There is only a small difference in the prompts syntax, {} in calculation manager and [] in essbase business rules.
Although i find the calculation manager web editor quite slow and imprecise to use, I anyway advice to use it in order to make eventual release upgrades easier.

  • Business Rule Audit Issue

We turn on audit for business rule in both classic and EPMA planning apps. EPMA version is the same class app migrated. I checked the audit record after launching a business rule in both classic and EPMA version. In classic, the rule has type of Business Rule and New_val as the name of the rule. However in EPMA version, the rule has a type of Calc Script and New_val as the first several SET commands in the script. Why the EPMA version behave this way?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I did'nt faced any issues wile exporting using the LCM. This is actualy the best methods of exporting and importing the BRs form different environments.
You can also try exporting na dimporting the BRs from EAS console.
I dont you how you are doing it, it is hjust about selecting the artifacts take an export and import from the file system.
It is ok to copy paste if you have a few rules to export, but if you have many, then try to use one of the approach that the product provides.
    Thanks,

  • Conditional vs Business rule transitions

Any thoughts on when I should be using a business rule transition instead of a conditional? Any need to use this yet?
I understand the primary distinction is "dynamic" but am having a hard time getting my head around the difference without an example.
    Cheers,
    Andrew
    Andrew

    Andrew,
I think business rules are mostly useful when modeling a condition that is likely to change, and you want to make it easy to change the condition on-the-fly, without having to change and re-deploy the process.
A simple example is when there is a transition that must be followed only when a variable value is above some predefined value (for example, a manager must approve all orders above $ 10K).
If using a business rule, this "10K" value can be easily changed as needed.
The ALBPM documentation has some guidelines on when to use Business Rules (section "When to use Dynamic Business Rules):
    http://edocs.bea.com/albsi/docs60/studio/designer/business_rules_editor/t_Using_Dynamic_Business_Rules.html
My example is taken from the one in the document describing ALBPM 6.0 new features:

  • Run Time Prompt - showing alias instead of member name

We have a Capex Planning application that uses right-click menus to launch business rules with Run Time Prompts. We are using Planning 11.1.2.1. Even we the alias table set, when opening the RTP it pulls in the member name rather than alias.
There is an Oracle KB article (Show the Alias name in the Business Rule Run-Time Prompt [ID 857832.1]) that has this solution:
Take the following steps to add the alias name to the run-time prompt along with the member name.
    1. Log in to planning web.
    2. Navigated to File >> Preferences >> Application settings.
    3. Select Show Alias in Member Selection and change the option from no to yes.
    4. Save it.
But in 11.1.2.1, there is not option for "Show Alias in Member Selection" under Planning Preferences.
We have an SR open, but figured maybe someone else has run into this issue as well.
Does anyone know how to get the aliases to show on a Run Time Prompt rule in 11.1.2.1?
    Thanks for your help!!

Deleting and rebuilding the dimension in the outline will enable you to build the members in the order you may desire if the file is in a given order.

  • Search for member name in WebForms and Business Rules - 11.1.2.1

    Hi,
Client has a hierarchy with two parents (Owned and Managed) within a dimension. The 'Managed' parent is no longer valid. Thus they want to eliminate it and move it's children under the 'Owned' member. However there could be ramifications in Business Rules and/or WebForms. Is there a way to search all Business Rules and WebForms for 'Managed' to see which Business Rules and/or WebForms would be affected?
Or is best way to extract all the WebForms and Business Rules to xml files via LCM and then write custom script to search the files? Not sure if this functionality is already there or not.
    They are on 11.1.2.1

I don't think "Show Usage" picks up Business Rules that are in the Calculation Manger.
Also check the Member Formulas - easiest to do in the EAS (view the Outline, and the member formulas are displayed. Otherwise, in Planning, you would need to go into each member individually, and that would take forever). And if you're using Partitions or MRAs, you should check them, too.
I'm assuming you're doing all of this in a copy of the application, and not on a "live" app, right? So you can make the change and then validate the Business Rules and Outline, and the error messages will tell you where "Managed" was being used.

  • RTP not working with Business Rule

I am trying to create a buisness rule that fixes on a member in a custom dimension based on a run time prompt using Calc Manger (11.1.2.2).  I created the variable at the cube level, set it to 'Member' and selected the appropriate dimension, and selected RTP.  The FIX statement is very simple FIX("Current",{Contract}).  The rule validates and deploys with no problem.  When running the rule either on form save or through Business Rules I receive the error: "error parsing formula for [FIX STATEMENT] (line 2): invalid object type.  If I change the variable to uncheck 'RTP' and place the same member used previously as the Default value the rule runs no problem.  Is there any reason why the rule appears to not be able to read in my RTP selection?
    Thanks,
    CS

Though this is not a calc manager issue, I am sure the member that Planning is picking up is a member that is set tyo dynamic calc.
You cannot use a member that is set to dynamic calc in a fix.

  • Business rule (add new member)

    Hello!
Is it possible to write a business rule, which adds to the data form (and in the dimension Account) new member, without using the Add Asset (Capex)?

In Essbase, you cannot add metadata dynamically. However, Add Capex is an example of business rules to populate/create block which makes metadata show up on webforms due to suppress missing blocks/rows on.

  • EAS does not show Business Rules node

I'm in the process of validating an 11.1.2 Planning installation. This is the development environment, so one Essbase server, one everything else server.
One of the issues I've run across is that my client install of EAS does not have a Business Rules node (I am staying away from Calculation Manager because of multiple horror stories from multiple sources I have heard about it).
However, it does show up in the launched-from-the-web version.
The web launched release numbers are:
    EAS 11.1.2.0.00.462
    APS 11.1.2.0.0.615
    HBR 11.1.2.0.0.722
And now this gets really weird. The client launched release numbers are:
    EAS 11.1.1.2.0.00.462
    APS 11.1..2.0.0.615
    HBR *4.1.1*
Somehow my clean install has magically gotten the last release of Planning 4's Business Rules?
It sure sounds like something didn't get installed correctly. I was able to find this thread regarding the same problem:
How to add HBR plugin in EAS console
    In that thread, RahulS wrote:
To sort this out give a try to copy common/log4j folder from the sever to the client or install the Integration Services Client on the machine where the Administration Services Console is installed.Unfortunately, there are multiple log4j folders and none (that I can see) that have a parent of common. Can anyone give me some guidance as to if this is a good solution and if so, a better hint as to what log4j folder I should grab?
    Thanks,
    Cameron Lackpour
P.S. I found the install log for EAS and found two errors at the end of the install process, but I believe these are related to writing an icon to the desktop. This doesn't surprise me as this Vista laptop is locked down tight.

There you go I was on the right track, who needs oracle support :)^^^Isn't this board a sort of unofficial Oracle support? I have to admit that after my first fruitless search of the KB on support.oracle.com, I purposely came here first before I had the client log a SR.
That's wrong, of course, or at least a little illogical, given that the customer pays for support and after all, answering these kinds of questions is sort of their primary job. Putting on my ODTUG hat, KScope 2011 is going to have a support symposium that is going to focus on process (like why is Cameron so brain-dead that he can't type 'EAS and node' into the KB search field which pops up the obvious answer?) so that people don't do a time waster like I just did. It's going to have some pretty big names and I hope you all can come.
I'm going to forward this thread to my contact at Oracle support as evidence that even "intelligent" people could use some help with how to do searches, no matter how elementary that may be.
