Show nick name in address book on E71

Hello,
I have a new E71 and this is finally the phone that I really like.
The contact details in the address book are very complete, I have added first/last name for all contacts and a nickname for a few. However I can choose to list my contacts only by first and last name. Is there a way or another address book application that allows me to show in the address book my contacts by nick name (if available) and if not as it is now by first/last name.
Thank you in advance for any help!

Sorry to bring this up again, but can someone please tell me if this is possible?

  • ICal incorrectly takes name from Address Book to show in birthday calendar

When I-Cal takes the name of a birthday person from Address Book to post a reminder on the birthday calendar of I-Cal it shows the first name as though it was the last name. I have verified this problem by reversing the names in Address Book, whereupon I-Cal shows the name correctly in the birthday calendar.
Obviously the program is defective and needs to be corrected.

You probably have not clicked the "show birthday calander" in the ical preferences pane

  • How do I force Mail to use contact names in Address Book?

I ~need~ Apple Mail to display sender names as I have them in Address Book. My students are Thai and have typed their sender names in Thai, so I can't recognise a thing. I've sorted all the names out in Address Book (in English) but Mail still displays sender names using the email default, rather than the names from Address Book.
    • Upon receiving new mail however, the message's sender name ~WILL~ show up as the name put in Address Book. HOWEVER, after viewing the message the name reverts back to the one specified by the email author!! After that I can't get the name to show up as the Address Book name!
Is there a toggle somewhere? How do I force Mail to use the contact names from Address Book?

  • Printing "child" names from Address Book on address labels

When I put selected "child" names on Address Books entries and try to print address labels including the kid's names, they don't appear. Example: I add "Jim" as a child name to an Address Book entry for Mike Jones. I try to print the Address Label: Mike Jones and Jim. Jim will not print. "JI" will print. "Jimm" will print. Anybody else have this problem? What's going on?

    From another thread:
If you have a spouse or child listed on contact card it will print them all on the mailing label IF the first name of each person is unique to your entire address book. For example, if the contact is John Brown and the spouse is listed as Susan Brown and the child is listed as Chester Brown, the expectation is that the label would print as:
    John, Susan and Chester Brown
This assumes that there are no other contacts in your address book with the first name of Susan or Chester. However, if, for example, you have another person in your contact list named Susan (the last name could be anything), Address Book will print:
    John and Chester Brown
This is because Address Book looks at all the first names in your contact list and if it sees a first name that is also listed in one of the spouse or child fields then it looks to see if the the other contact shares the same address as the contact you are trying to print. If the address is the same, then it prints properly on the label. If not, then it doesn't print on the label. So if you have two Susans - Susan Anderson and Susan Brown - Address book looks at the address on each card and determines that Susan Brown has the same address as the contact you are trying to print (John Brown) and therefore prints her name on the label.
So, to make a long story short, if you want consistent and predictable results when printing your labels you should assign a unique card to each person that you want to appear on the label and make sure that the individual cards have the same address listed on each. So, in the above example, there would be a card for John Brown, a card for Susan Brown, and a card for Chester Brown. On John Brown's card, Susan Brown would be listed as spouse and Chester Brown would be listed as child. Print John Brown's card and you should get:
    John, Susan and Chester Brown
Although this makes logical sense, it's not incredibly intuitive and not very well documented by Apple. I was hoping they would enhance Address Book in Leopard since this seems like a feature that a lot of people would use around this time of year. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time around.

  • Contacts added in Messages don't show up in Contacts/Address Book?

    Okay, here's what's happening:
    1) A friend messages me for the first time
    2) At the top of the message window I hit "Add contact"
    3) I type in the details
    4) Now, this new contact SHOULD show up in my Address Book/the Contacts app, right? But it doesn't!

If found a thread on stackexchange dealing with several suggestions, none of which worked for me. The last message in the thread is diappointing as it basically says "don't use the add contact feature in the Message app". Unfortunately that is the answer I'll be going with since the feature is obviously broken.

I have a similar problem. I actually spoke with a Paypal customer Representative a few months back who informed me that they had deleted all of my previous *Hidden* Address but when I just purchased an item today on a online merchant's site that I had never been to before and checked out using their Paypal option, I noticed that my default shipping address was in fact my old address and when I went to change the address to my current address, I noticed all of the old addresses I ever used were still there. I've just spoken with 2 separate paypal representatives who confirmed on their end that all of the old address have been deleted and the only one they have on file is my current address. Can anyone provide me an explanation as to why the old hidden address can still be showing up when I check out on merchant's sites using paypal even after they've seemingly been deleted? The last Representative suggested clearing out my browser's cache, but I don't believe that will resolve my issue. Thank you in advance.

  • The address book in a new email shows only names, no addresses

I recently added new names with their email addresses in "Address Book" - picked the Group I wanted and then clicked the + sign under Names and entered the info in the space to the right.  I had already created a mailbox for each name and had gone through Mailbox-Preferences-Rules to have emails from or to routed to the correct boxes [which it did when I clicked on "Apply" at the end of this process].  All this to show what I did prior to choosing "New Message" in Email.  When I got the blank email page, I clicked on the Address Book icon above to retrieve the address I wanted and only the names of the people I had entered were displayed, NOT their email addresses.   I then restarted the computer - still the same.  How do I get the addresses to show up???

Solved the problem.  Guess it helps sometimes to write down problems.

  • How can I make Mail show name of address book group in to field?

In my address book I have a group named "family." When I send email to that group, I want the "to" field to show "family." Instead, it shows the whole list, every name and address. I can put them into the BCC field, but I'd rather just show the group name in the "to" field.

The column divider is still there. Widen the entire window first, then change column width.

  • Preference for not using middle names from address book in emails

I have quite a few contacts that I have their middle names in my address book. When I type their name in a new email, their full name is displayed in the "To" field. I don't want the middle name to show up in my outgoing emails. I also don't want to delete everyones middle name from my address book. Are there any preferences or plugins that allow this behavior?
I also have some contacts that I have nicknames for...the most glaringly obvious being "Mom" and "Dad." I don't want to send an email to my parents with their name in the "To" field. Is there a plugin or a preference for this as well

    Greetings,
Sorry, but there's no way to do what you want. The only way to avoid using a middle name in the To: field is for you to delete that from your contact, and from the Previous Recipients list in Mail. The same would be true for those contacts where you have a nickname.
But ultimately, the name use by Mail and Address Book would be determined by the recipient when they send you an email; if they use their full name, that's what Address Book will change it to.

  • IOS 5.0.1 Can't Show OS X Lion Address Book Profile Fields?

In OS X Lion, Apple introduced Profile fields into the Address Book:
    Social network profiles
Address Book lets you quickly access the social network profiles of your contacts, including Facebook. Press and hold an email address to select the appropriate profile.
So, I filled this all in on my Mac. But then I synced my iPhone (running iOS 5.0.1) with my iMac, and discovered that the Contacts app on the iPhone doesn't show these fields. Is this true, or have I done something wrong?

I'm going to try that next.
What I just tried was creating a New Card in Address Book on my Mac and filling in these fields:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Twitter
    • Facebook
    • Flickr
I then synced my iPhone with my Mac, via iTunes.
The new card showed up in Contacts on my iPhone, but only the First Name and Last Name are visible. The three Profile fields I filled in are not there! Clearly this is a bug.

  • Can't get rid of a last name in address book

    Hello,
I of course added my mother to my address book. At one point I had entered her proper first and last name. Until one day I realized that entry was carrying over in emails. So I deleted the last name and entered Mom for the first name.
Every since then I've stuck with Mom Smith as a contact. I have .mac, which I think might be part of the problem. I've also tried deleting the entry from everywhere and waiting a few weeks, and several syncs later. I then reentered the first name only, and the problem has crept back. Except now, the only place it shows as Mom Smith is the address book and mail. On .mac it's correct.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Okay, half way there... I guess.
I should mention that there are two different addresses for Mom Smith.
In most cases when autofilling, the name truncates into the correct name. (even though the dropdown that pops up shows the wrong one) Which in a way solves my issue. (I've recently tried the 'delete everything and try again' approach, after the upgrade to leopard. But, this problem has had a way of creeping back in the past)
However, in one instance, the address did not shorten up, and I was able to delete it as you instructed. I'm not sure what I did to get it to do that, and have been unable to delete the second address of Mom Smith. When it auto-shortens to just Mom, the 'remove previous' option isn't there.
I've tried clicking the address from the dropdown, hitting tab, and hitting return. All of which seem to switch it from Mom Smith in the drop down, to the Mom I recently 'fixed'.
    Thanks for you help.

  • How can I show alphabet tabs in Address Book OS 10.7?

Finally installed OS 10.7 yesterday and (not to be a stick in the mud but) now have it working pretty much like classic Snow Leopard, yay.
Why is it that Address Book keeps getting worse instead of better with each new OS X?
Please tell me how to show the letter tabs so I can quickly go to the name I am looking for.
    Thanks!

I don't think there are any tabs.
I usually just start typing the name of the contact I'm looking for in the search field.
I agree with you, Address Book in Lion is not Apple's finest achievement.
The good news, is that it appears to get better when it becomes Contacts in Mountain Lion.
Among other things, three column viewing is back.

  • Mail fails to recognize names from address book

My information in address book shows as follows
    Name: J Doe
    Email address: [email protected]
If someone has me in their address book as Doe John and sends an email to me at my email address ([email protected]), Mail.app does not recognize me and asks me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'.
The same happens if a sender has a minor change in the Name (such as even a dot in the name) of any recipient, regardless of the fact that I have the correct name in the address book. Mail fails to recognize the recipient even though the email address is identical, and will ask me if I want to 'Add to Address Book'.
One would expect Mail to use just the email address and recognize the contact as already being in the Address Book.
I just spent a good three hours investigating this.
There have been numerous posts discussing this both here and elsewhere over the years but I'm surprised that there has not been a solution. Here are some examples..
    1. Mail can't recognize my contact email address
    2. Address Book editing
    3. Mail doesn't show names from the Address Book
In the 3rd example above, Golden Shoes suggests that this is the same for every email client, but I must disagree because Postbox and Thunderbird does display the information correctly from the Address Book, infact Postbox does this impressively I must add.
It would be great if this was fixable in Mail. Is there a solution for this?

    I followed your suggestions.
Both AB and AB within Mail were empty of contacts after I deleted my iCloud contacts from the mac. I even did a reboot just in case. After this, I rechecked contacts and all my contacts appeared again both in AB and AB within Mail.
I quit and reopened Mail to find that the problem still persisted. I know and rechecked that these contacts are not present in my previous recipients list so it is definitely not that database which is preventing this.
The funny thing (maybe not funny since this is really bugging me) is that Mail on iOS (iPhone) works just fine. The Mail on iPhone seems to query the sender/recipient email address, accurately realizes that the contact is already in the AB, and shows as such. The same email in Mail.app on the mac asks me if I want to add the contact to AB.
Is this really a unique situation? Is everyone else not experiencing the same?
If you ask someone to change your name within their address book and send an email to you, does Mail on the mac recognize you regardless of what that sender named you as? Or does it ask you to add to AB?

  • How to delete an iphone contact that does not show up in the address book

    hello--
i am a new iphone 4s user and i had a quick question that i have not been able to find an answer to.
when i am using imessage, there are a few contacts that come up as options but yet they are not located in my address book or contacts list-- they are simply only an option when creating a new text imessage.
i would like to delete these contacts from the imessage list of options because they are numbers that i no longer need but i am not able to delete them.
someone please help me fix this problem so i can get rid of these contacts and not send any messages to them instead of the actual correct person!
