"show photo settings" and ken burns glitch? please help :(

hi, i'm having a problem,
my software is the latest version, so is quicktime, all my updates are up to date, i'm not using an external hardrive.
i was creating a music video composed of all still pictures and everything was going fine untill today.
the "show photo settings" display box has a glitch or something.
the slide bars for the ken burns effect have disappeared.
a checkmark on the imovie display is now visible and the apply and reverse buttons have disappeared.
i can no longer exit out the photo settings window the same way as before.
when pictures are added to the timeline they are much too long.
i'm unable to keep the ken burns affect box checked, it keeps unchecking itself and it wont allow me to change any photo settings on certain pictures and on the ones it will allow me to when i press "apply" or the checkmark it stalls and wont render the file (the red line doesn't fill and just stays there)
when changing the length or display time of the picture it will delete itself and replace it with the next picture in line.
can anyone help me? i've spent a massive amount of time on this video and would like to finish it. i dont know what the problem is. maybe i clicked something i shouldn't have?
thanks in advance

i'm estimating around _1000 pictures_ ... they are all being stored on the desktop ...
WOW!
... how long does your poor Mac need for booting??
The >40y old Xerox metaphor of a Desktop/Folders/trashbin had the concept of simulating reallife.. would you store ~1000 pics on your desk while glueing them into an album (ever glued 1k pics into an album?) ...?
I assume, your System is 'cluttered'. totally cluttered.
try to clean up ... in Finder, clean your File 'System'... create folders (many folders...), use the pre-installed structure your Mac came with (how about storing pictures in... ehm, Pictures?), why not using iLife as intended (import into iM from iPhoto), why not using the integrated 'File Management' of iPhoto to create albums, to give your mass of pics some structure, finally consider to use approbiate apps (if you try to create a stopmotion-like movie, QTpro or Boinx' istopmotion are better tools) ...
keep in mind, a Mac needs at last 10-15GB free on internal drive to act normal.
export as much as you can to external drives (firewire connected, 'MacOsExtended' formatted), don't forget to give these harddrives structure too .. you know how to create Folders in Finder?
after all is set and done, your desktop is clean, everything is in its place, use Disk Utility to check&repair... finally, reboot your Mac, give it a chance to 'recreate' itself in better shape
... and there's still a high chance, that the fragile file management of the 20$ consumer app iMovie is still overwhelmed by >1000 stills in one single project...

Try restarting it. If this does not work, then hard restart it which is holding the power and home button until the product ***** off. If this does not help either, plug it into the computer and restore it. Make sure you back up the device before you restore it though! • I'm unclear on settings and misplaced some data, Please help?

I have been using Media player for music but decided to finally use my airport express since the software is fixed. I downloaded Itunes to my Windows XP notebook. All the Mp3 that were in Media Player (ie. my music) transferred just fine. I then decided I need more room in my home so began importing all my CD's so I could store the original discs. I imported as .wav files so as to retain as much clarity as possible. I made the assumption that Apples' lossless would be as limiting as Media Player's which won't let you play your on other music players such as Itunes.
I only have 90GBs on my hard drive so it was filling up fast. I then decide to move all the music files to an external HD (attached to my notebook currently) which, upon completion of the CD importation, I could attach to my home server and make available to all home computers. The new directory was F:music. I moved all music files in my music that consisted of MP3 and imported wav files. I then continued to import to my notebook.
After another round of moving the files, I realized that I should leave the external drive attached to my notebook and Import the files to the external drive. Here is where the wheels BEGIN to fall off. I should have attached the External drive from the beginning but hindsight is 20/20.
Bare in mind, the rest of this is likely out of sequence because I have made so many changes and tried to fix things.
I went to edit, then preferences and changed "Itune Music folder location" to F:music. Within the music folder I now had all my artist's folders. Within the artist's folders were the albums. Within the albums are all the individual tracks from the albums. Incidentally, when I imported the CDs as wav, all info was available and copied. I could see all the data (ie wav file itself, album cover, year, artist, album name, genre, etc...) in Itunes and in the folders by checking the properties of the songs. In addition to all the artist's folders in alphabetical order in F:music, Itunes folder was also listed next to the INXS folder. Within the itunes folder, were the subfolders: itunes Music, itunes Library.itl, and itunes Music Library.xml. However, the same were still in the my music folder in my documents on the C:. I'm not sure it was there as a pointer of some sort or not.
Ok, not sure what was going on, I began trying to fix, what I percieved as little problems. I tried various things like checking and unchecking "keep itunes music folder organized". I also checked and unchecked "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library". Probably tried to combine the Library.itl at some point.
After a while, I when I started itunes the MP3 files were theere and listed all data. However, the imported files, althought available, only listed the track # and song title. All other data was missing in itunes. I could play the songs but they were sorted by track and titles. I had dozens of track 01 through 09 and etc... The info was still in the original artist's folder but not in itunes.
I then tried restores to previous times to fix this with out success. I moved things around uninstalled and maybe even accidentally deleted things, however unlikly. I also restored everything in my recycling folder just in case.
I now have a totally screwed up list, with exception of the original MP3s. The song data in now missing from the folders, although track # and song title still exist.
95% of the music is in an unknown artist's file in F:
Is there a way to rebuild this without loading in the individual CDs?
I've seen at Gracenote that there seems to be a software provider that has something for DJs that only use vinyl recordings.
I can apparently use just the name and the software will propose all options.
Does anyone have experience with this?
    Can itunes do this?
Should there be itunes music and library folders in the default C:My documents/my music folder and in the F: or should they be combined or one deleted?
Should I check "keep itunes music folder organized" and "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library".
And if so, how do I keep from duplicating files which takes up massive space in any drive?
Is wav the best format to use for true Audio file duplication.
If itunes lossless is better, can other media players play the files?
I've search forums and can't seem to find my answers. I have read contradictory informatin and am looking for a clear instruction. I realize that my be difficult based on all the changes that I made but moving forward, I'd like to know the correct proceedures.
I appreciate any help I can get.

Well, in my opionion, you've moved things around so much, it would be better to just clear your current iTunes library and rebuild it.
IMPORTANT - I am talking about clearing the iTunes library file, not deleting song files from your hard drive.
I personally never use WAV files, because I like the tags that come with MP3. I'm a pleasure listener - I don't need WAV files for professional reasons.
When I first got iTunes, yeah, I took the default settings and ripped all my CDs in AAC format (they have .m4a file extensions). I regret this, in one way, because they won't work in other Windows applications & other portable devices. But, they sound great on my iPod and don't take up so much drive space as other formats.
edit: I've no idea what you're talking about with the GraceNotes vinyl lookup. AFAIK, you're going to have to re-rip the CDs in a non-WAV format to get the ID3 tags. But you can google to find more info on that.

my ipod touch is stuck in recovery mode... how do i fix this.. my itunes has the latest version

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have an older version of imovie.  After I change the photos using the Ken Burns effect and save them, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' to change the zoom, the picture appears black and I can't change the zoom?

I have a five year old version of imovie that generally works fine.  However, when I add a photo using the 'Ken Burns' effect then save the movie, the next time I open the file and click 'show photo settings' the picture appears black and I cannot change the zoom.  Any suggestions?

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

  • Photo Settings not showing up; cannot remove Ken Burns effect

    Hello,
Earlier today, I selected the photo setting button and a little box showed up with the Ken Burns effect options in it, however now when I select photo settings, the only thing that shows up is the preview of the of photo zooming/panning. Please help... how do I get back to that little box so I can remove the Ken Burns effect from my photos! Thanking you!

Also having the same problem. When going to show photo settings, it shows black screen. Un checking Ken Burns and updating does nothing. All photos in slide show have same super zoom of Ken Burns with no way to remove it or alter it.
iMovie HD broken, iMovie 08 ***... The only reason I purchased Mac was for handling media and I end up doing projects on my old pc using photoshop elements.

  • Ken Burns Effect window not there when I click on "Show Photo Settings"

    Hi
I am using IMovie HD v 6.0.3 on my mac book pro v 10.4.11. When I press "Show Photo Settings" in imovie, all I see is a large preview window with the photo panning and zooming. There is no window box with a small preview window, zoom, speed controls, and Ken Burns check box, etc. on the interface. So, as a result, the only control I have is a stop, and grab.
Where is my Ken Burns window with all the controls? Is there a download or a fix for this? What am I missing? I have a project loaded with photos and a deadline, so I figured if I used imovie instead of final cut pro, it would be much quicker and easier.
    Please help....
    Thanks,
    Anneita

Thanks for your reply! Your suggestion makes perfect sense.
However, just before I received your reply, I made an appointment with a Mac Genius at the local Apple store, and guess what! The transparent box was hiding way down the bottom of the screen, and that's why it couldn't be seen. He found it! Duhhhhh......
    Thanks again.

  • Photos get auto-cropped and ken burns. stop it.

Trying to do a stop motion. don't need the photos to movie. Cant get imovie to stop auto cropping and ken burns-ing the photos on import from iphoto. Would be fine, but i can't bulk adjust them either, tired of going through frame by frame and putting it back to fit. help.

When you start a new project, or to change a project you are currently working on, go to FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES, and you can change the default behaviour for initial photo placement from Ken Burns to either FIT or CROP. Crop will make the photo fit the frame exactly by cropping off the top abd bottom. FIT will make the entire photo fit by letterboxing.
If you make your photos have the same aspect ratio as your project (either 16:9 or 4:3), then FIT and CROP produce the same result, and nothing is lost from the photo.
The FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES will only change photos that you add going forward.
To change a bunch of photos that are already there, change one photo using the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tool. Then, with the photo still selected, EDIT/COPY.
Now, select all the photos you want to change by holding down the Command Key as you click, so you can select multiple photos.
    Now, click EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS.../CROP ADJUSTMENTS.

  • Photos in Timeline and Ken Burns Effect (Motion Control)

I'd like to check my processes for setting photos with the Ken Burns Effect. I've used Tom's Motion Control example to set Ken Burns Effect on two or more photos that are next to each other in the timeline. I have found that if the photos are approximately the same pixel size that it works well. When they are significantly different I still see the second pic holding still for a few frames and then the movement.
So, I'm interested in other experiences. Did you also find that the relative size of the photos makes a difference? And, when you have photos that are significantly diff in size, what process do you use to bring them closer together?
    Thanks,
    dave

    Hi David,
I think the problem you are having is similar to one that I was encountering while finishing a project a few weeks ago. I also was using photos of differing sizes, but the issue with the late start on the "Ken Burns Effect" on the second photo wasn't related to the differing photo sizes, but to the transition I used between the images.
I found that when I applied Motion to a photo using keyframes, the motion looked fine on both images until I applied a cross dissolve in between images. I realized that the cross dissolve is looking for frames before the motion keyframe to blend with the previous photo. Since the frames before the keyframe are "generated" (I'm not sure if that's the correct word) from the first frame of the still (which has no motion) it generates 15 frames (for a 1 second cross dissolve) that are not moving. That makes it appear like it's stuck and then starts moving when the playhead hits the motion keyframe.
My solution was to move the still photo clips (one at a time) up one video track, extend both ends 15 frames and set the motion keyframe at the "new" beginning of the clip and the "new" end and do my motion based on that new clip length. I then brought in both ends back to their original positions and dropped the clip back into its original spot and then applied the cross dissolve. Now the cross dissolve would have 15 frames with motion to work with for blending the two pictures.
It was incredibly tedious, but I had to do it because the images made up a large part of the video project I was working on. If anyone can suggest a better way of doing it, I would greatly appreciate it.
Despite the time involved, I was really happy with the final results.
    I hope that helps.

    What version of iPhoto?
Can you access the images with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?

  • I created an album and have been showing it presentation style, ken burns effects etc. Now every time I try to re-run it it starts from the end, last picture first! Can't seem to be able to reverse it. Any clue anyone?

I created an album and have been showing it presentation style, ken burns effects etc. Now every time I try to re-run it it starts from the end, last picture first! Can't seem to be able to reverse it. Any clue anyone?

    First try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset iPhoto's preferences and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
Next, if necessary, continue with the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Black window for Show Photo Settings

Using iMovie 6.3. I have edited several photos and put them in place for iMovie. but without Ken Burns effect. When I want add editing, ie. Ken Burns effect, I get a black window which makes editing impossible. This only happens with photos previously dragged to bottom row and not to new attempts. When I click Show Photo Settings, the edit window goes black. Can I avoid this?
    Gene O'Meara

I suggest that we all give Mac the feedback, that they need to give us a update Fast. As Right now... as in NOW
I find it unbelievable that this problem is still here.
Please. Every one who stops by with this problem, Please give iMovie the feedback
    How to give iMovie feedback:
    Open iMovie
    Go to iMovie menu
    Click Provide iMovie Feedback

  • Ken Burns Glitch

I'm not really used to iMovie but I thought it would be easier to use Ken Burns than do it all in final cut. So I put in all the pictures and applied the effect to it and a notice comes up that says I don't have enough disk space and to empty the trash. So I empty iMovie's trash and now when I click on a picture that's already in the timeline and click 'show photo settings' it's just black. So I saved the project as on a different hard-drive with more disk space and it still does the same thing. I even tried making a whole new imovie project and copying and pasting all the clips into the new project but it doesn't work. Did I just screw everything up by emptying the trash and I have to restart the project or is there someway I can fix it?

You couldn't have known, but there is a bug in iMovie 6 whereby if you empty the trash you no longer can edit photos that have the Ken Burns effect applied. The only cure is to reimport the original photo, not the old clip. Then reapply the Ken Burns effect. And don't empty the trash EVER until your project is finished.
However, you need to be sure that you have enough free disk space for iMovie to operate. 25GB is frequently recommended on this forum. Probably 15GB would suffice, but 25GB is better.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to do a couple of simple maintenance things. First, close iMovie and trash the file com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in User (your name)/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new .plist file upon relaunch. Before relaunching, do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. Open Disk Utilities and follow the screen. Make sure that your external hard drive is formatted for Apple. Should be Mac OS extended or Mac OS extended (journaled). If it is not formatted that way, you can reformat, but you will need to remove all files on the drive that you want to save because reformatting will erase all data on the drive.

  • Hide/Show Photo Settings

6 has gone and put the Ken Burns setting behind a button. I want "Show Photo Settings" to be my default. I hate having to press the button each time I want to set Ken Burns on and off.

The Photo Settings window is probably hidden off-screen.
The Photo Settings palette "sticks" to the project window. If you position the palette to the right of the project window, close the palette, move the project window to the right side of the screen, then open the palette, the palette has been moved with the project window and is now located off screen.
Move the project window back and the palette should immediately reappear, or appear when the Show Photo Settings window is next pressed.
If you can't find it, re-launch iMovie.
This is one of a multitude of iMovie 6 user interface bugs. If history holds it will probably never be fixed.
