Show preview/filial JPEG file

one more :-)
I know, I can import images with the JPEGs handled as seperate images. But this is not what I usually want. I would however like, to see the original image produced by the camera. At least a command to add the JPEG file into the stack and remove it as "filial file" so one could see and work with it.
It makes sens for me to see the original JPEG as reality link when working with images. Current cameras also produces quite acceptable images from the start, so it is a bit of a loss to just hide them.

    Hi maui888,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you mean that you are not seeing the first couple of lines of the email in the message list, you may want to check the "List Preview" setting in the Viewing preferences, as noted in the following article:

You are speaking about album art I assume? Is the album art in iTunes on your computer?
Like some of them do have them and some of them dont also my computer ad ipad doesnt have the same music
Probably because all of the Music wasn't selected to sync from iTunes. When the iPad is connect to iTunes on your computer, you can select Sync Entire Library in the Music Tab of iTunes if you want all of your music on the iPad.
    Take a look at this.

  • Export to jpeg:  Show jpeg file size prior to export

Photoshop save to jpeg dialog box shows the jpeg file size associated with each jpeg compression level (1 - 12).  Lightroom export dialog box does not show jpeg file size.  Showing the expected jpeg file size is useful when needing to limit file size while maximizing jpeg quality.  For example, some email applications limit attachment file size; some photo hosting sites (e.g., Zenfolio) limit file size to 12mb.  If I export a cr2 file at 100 quality, it may result in a file size of 14mb.  However, I cannot determine this until after I export.  Then I may try 90 quality and find that the resulting file size is only 8mb.  So, I try 95 quality, and get a 12.5mb file.  This iterative process is a waste of time.  I need to se the file size resulting from each jpeg quality setting in the export dialog box.

I have tried trashing the plist file. The files look fine through the media manager when copied to the other profile. They look like they are suppose to. The small videos also look fine when played on that computer. Unfortunately our other mac pro computer doesn't have final cut so i can't open and play proress files and my laptop, due to the extreme resolution can't be played on my laptop with final cut studio installed. Tomorrow i'm going to install the proress decoder on the one mac pro to check the files and make sure the self contained is checked but i'm almost positive on that. Other than nuking the profile i don't know what else to do. This is really weird.

  • Aperture not showing (just black) newly imported JPEG files

RE: Aperture not showing newly imported JPEG files.
In fact its just black instead of the actual image. (see attached screen shot)
When double clicking on this - i.e. to go to the edit mode, the image then appears.
If I return to the viewing screen without changing anything to that image it remains black.
If I make any kind of change to the image, the image will appear when returning to the viewing screen.
Aperture seems only to have started behaving like this after update to OS X  10.10 (Yosemite)
I have the latest Aperture 3.6
Latest Digital Camera Raw 6.00 Build 761.5 and Digital Camera Raw Support 6000 Build 131.1
RAW files (taken with same camera) are displayed without any issues.
JPEG image files have been taken with a Sony RX100
JPEG image files taken with the same device imported into Aperture before OSX update to 10.10 have appear to have no issues
I cannot say if JPEG files taken with a different device have similar issues.
All files have been been reprocessed to latest edition of aperture
I have had other issues of other types of files (i.e. TIFF output  files 'unsupported image format' behaving oddly including inconsistent behaviour after having been processed by 3rd party aperture plug-in's -  although this has now largely been solved.
I remember having similar issues of files behaving strangely in Aperture after last update to OS X (Mavericks) - forget how this was solved -  but I'm pretty sure it was not an issue involving JPEGS
    Many thanks

...this sounds very similar to the problem I had on a previous aperture update and I had a similar issue  -  to that - with the .tiff files output from RAW files and an HDR plug-in.
In the first instance, I cannot remember for sure, but maybe it was something to do with not having the latest RAW File update for Aperture specific to that latest Aperture Update and specific to a Sony RX100 (or it could have been a Nikon d700).
I found the RAW file update  -  I'm not sure it was being made available from the App Store -  and everything was fine.
With the more recent issue, I'm pretty sure this was resolved by updating to the latest Photomatix HDR plug-in.
So I'm just stuck on the issue with the JPEGs now.

  • Not all files copied to burn folders are showing up as alias files.

I am trying to perform a very trivial function of burning JPEGS on my DVD.  I've done it tons of times with minimal issues.
However, recently, I have noticed a consistent issue in the burn folder:
When I try to place JPEGS from a master/original folder to a burn folder on my desktop, I notice that most all files will correctly be "alias" files (as expected).  However, there are a few (one or two) that will show up as JPEG files.  That JPEG file size is smaller than the original, which leads me to believe that it is having trouble making it an alias file.  When I click on that JPEG file in the burn folder, I get the following error "the file 'xyz.jpg' could not be opened.  It may be damaged or use a file format that preview doesn't recognize."  However, when I open that file from the origina source, it opens fine.
When I "get info" properties, I notice that in the general file information section, it does not show the original source location (as it does when looking at the alias "get info" properties.)
So what I have to do at this point is delete the false JPEG file image in the burn folder, and individually replace that with the file from the original source.  At that point, it makes it an alias file.
Although I found a work around to get files burned, I want to fix this so this does not happen when I am placing large amounts of files in burn folder.  As it is, I can no longer trust the burn folder and have to inspect it before I burn to make sure all files are alias files.
Anybody experience this and have a way to fix this in the system?
Many of you probably are experiencing this, but if you are not checking your burn folder, it will just look like a corrupt file on your CD/DVD.
    Thanks for your help.
    Jeff

Hi all, thanks for your suggestions thus far.  Here is some additional information and initial answers to your comments.
I am still having the issue.  Currently, what I do is export full res files from my master RAWs using Aperture 3.  To do this, we create an export folder on desktop or any other specific storage location.  We then use the burn folders as a simple method to create an immediate backup DVD of the JPEGS.  As described above I am using the drag and drop technique currently to move images into the burn folder, as we have a few different labeled burn folders in our workflow.
I am not using iPhoto at all for this process, as all of my images are managed with Aperture 3.  However, since the files/exports coming out of A3 seem to be fine, I am not currently questioning the integrity of the export.
I am going to try to use the burn folder technique from finder as BRB8910 suggests as an alternate method and report back on the outcome.
But Here is a revised issue of the initial stated problem:
I went back to my desktop to do some additional testing and tried a new condition...keeping the burn folder closed down.
On my desktop, I created a new burn folder called "burn tester 2".  I left it unopened and dragged the same master images from the same master folder directly into the folder collapsed down.  ANd guess what?  All the alias images seem to appear in the "Burn Tester 2" burn folder fine.
NOW, here is the newly discovered issue.  I removed the alias files in the "Burn Tester 2" Burn folder.  For my next test, I opened the empty burn folder.  So know I have an empty open burn folder window.  I then opened my master folder and highlighted all the master JPEG images and dragged them into the same "Burn Tester 2
burn folder that is now open.  Guess what?  The issue remains.  I will get some files that copy in as corrupt JPEG files along with mostly Alias files.
I deleted the burn tester 2 burn folder all together, and recreated a third virgin burn folder and this time opened first.  when I dragged images to the freshly created and open burn foldder 3, I get the same issue.  When I delete the burn folder contents and collapse (close) the burn folder window, I then drag images to that burn folder 3 directly on the desktop (while closed), and then all the Alias files seem to drag in fine, with no JPEGs.
So it appears after my testing, I discovered that this issue only happens when I copy into a burn folder that is an open window.
I am just really confused as to why this is happening.
Hope this provides additional insight.  BTW:  Yes, I did reboot my system prior to retesting and I am using MAC OS 10.6.8 MacPro Quad Core with 8 GB RAM.

  • In PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but PSD, DNG and CR2 files don't. Also, no thumbnail below the file list.

Working in PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but psd files just have white sheet of paper as preview.  I have to open the file to be able to see it.  Also, there is no thumbnail of the file below the file list.Surely, there's a setting that needs to be changed. I did not have this problem with Elements 12. This is a real bother because I have to use Lightroom to see all the file types. It seems as if Elements is using the standard Windows file loader that can't show previews of file types it doesn't know including .PSD, DNG and CR2. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong? Thanks for any help.

I am using Windows 7 64 bits. Working in the editor, I never use the organizer. The screen above is not the same at all that I got in Elements 12, it was completely different and showed me a thumbnail below the listing when I single clicked on one of the files. In Elements 12, I also could see  a thumbnail of all the file types, not only the jpegs. It is as if the loader is the regular Windows used anywhere, not the right one for Elements. I hope someone understands my problem.. Thanks.

  • Why having displayed both generic icons for the PDF and JPEG files and automatic preview of the JPEG files in an ordinary folder are mutually exclusive in Win7?

    In Win7 Pro all my:
PDF documents, with the 'Large Icons' option chosen in the View tab, display contents of their first page with a tiny thumbnail in the icon's lower right corner, instead of a generic PDF icon.
JPEG files show Icon size photos, instead of a generic Nero 9 PhotoSnap Essentials icon.
Folders containing the JPEG photos, however, automatically show preview, when opened, which is desirable feature.
I found that the Win7 option "Always show icons never thumbnails" in the View tab: Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options, (where ironically the present 'thumbnails' have nothing to do with 'Thumbnails' from the View option in WinXP), causes the unwanted effects described in points 1 & 2, when unchecked.
Checking this option solves the problem of the PDF and Nero icons. This time, however, I can only see a Nero 9 PhotoSnap Essentials icons, instead of photos preview on opening of any standard folder with the JPEG photos.
Did I make a mistake somewhere or maybe Microsoft made changes in Win7 with respect to WinXP, which make it impossible to have both the features working at the same time?

Once installed, it should have the same features as the Win 7 drivers for scanning.

  • I am scanning printed photos into iPhoto as jpeg files but they are not showing as jpegs and I can't move them to another document - any ideas??

Ultimately, I am using these photos in a document I am writing and for some reason, some of the photos I have scanned in to iPhoto are not showing as jpeg files . . . the file type is blank and when I try to move them, I get a circle with a slash through it indicating NO instead of the green circle with a + indicating that the photo can be moved and dropped elsewhere.  I am using an Epson scanner and am scanning as jpeg images.  I also have an option to scan as a jpeg2000 image but am not sure of the difference in the files so continue to scan as just jpeg.  Does anybody have an idea as to  why these particular files are scanning in as jpegs but apparently there is something not registering correctly.  Could it be that they were scanned without doing an overview scan first?  I know it can't be that simple . . any help would be appreciated.

What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.

  • Lightroom 4.1 exported JPEG files are not recognized by Apple Preview App

I just started using Lightroom 4.1 Trial version (coming from Aperture). I exported JPEG versions of some images using an ICC profile. On my iMac running Lion 10.7.5 the pictures do not show a thumbnail, the file on the desktop just shows "JPEG". I could not open the file with the Preview App, but I am able to open it with DPP (Canon software)? Also the file shows that it has 0 x 0 dimentions when I click Get Info even though it is about 25 Megs in size?
    The message I get is
"The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
Does anyone know why this is hapening?
Is it a know issue between Adobe and Apple?
Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks for help in advance.

25MB is quite a large filesize for a JPG, and this might be either quite a lot of pixels saved at a very "high" quality (not very much compressed), or it may be an extremely large number of pixels saved with medium compression.
While the technical spec of the JPG format imposes an absolute limit on maximum width and height pixel dimensions, some software employs a lower limit above which it considers the file to be invalid. Different programs, different limits, sometimes.
I have encountered this (for example) with pano stitched images using the full resolution of a large number of component shots - where JPG output could not be made, or if made, could not even be viewed as a whole by my standard image viewer (though TIFF was still OK even at still larger sizes).
If Lightroom has been set to a large printed size AND to a high ppi resolution, it is easy to get into very high numbers and very large output files. One should IMO at least question the utility and benefit of using very high ratios of upsampling from a standard digital photo - which may happen in some cases as a result of using the same output settings regardless, when spreading the same data across both small and large scales. If the file that was imported into LR really does provide an unusually high number of pixels expressing lots of detail, then that will better deserve such a capacious output file. Otherwise, each part of the file may merely show a very highly detailed representation, of a very blurry nothing-much-in-particular.
If the JPG has exceeded the viewer's size limits, a reported width and height of 0 may represent an error message, in effect - not actual reality.

Some snaps show up as black screens when I try to view them as single pictures.Even when I run them in slideshows they show up as black screens. These are jpeg files. How can I avoid this happening?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
