Show - Recent Messages

In my iPhone 'Mail' settings, I have set 'Show' to '500 Recent Messages.' This setting is for my Hotmail e-mail account. However, I continue to receive and see well over 500 messages. Why is this happening? How can I control it to show only upto 500 messages?

Regarding to your question, Apple decided to remove this menu, so any mail that stays in the inbox for more then 100 days, will automatically be deleted.

HT3529 Show recent messages problem

My iPad doesn't allow me the '50 show recent messages options'. It keeps reloading until I have 200 all the time. I deleted the account and added it again. I did a reboot. This option works on my iPhone. The only difference is that I upgraded the iPad to 7.0.4 but did not upgrade the iPhone. 200 messages, many several days old, is annoying. Any ideas? Thanks.

Installed Thunderbird but it only shows recent messages - why?

After months of problems with Outlook I installed Thunderbird. It seems to work great, but this morning I went to search for an email...I couldn't find it. I then realised that it only shows recent emails in the inbox. I've read various things but can't seem to make it download my old messages which are on the server and still show in Outlook.
Please help me sort this.

Is Thunderbird the default mail account?
Do you have an IMAP or Pop mail account?
If IMAP, what settings do you have here? :
'Tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Synchronize & Storage' for the mail account
At the top of the page, 'Keep messages for this account on this computer' should be checked if you want to synchronize messages between your local system and your mail server.
Under the Disc space section, do you have it set to only synchronise the most recent xx days or messages ?

IMessage on Macbook isn't showing recent messages?

Around the end of November 2014 (it's now midway through March 2015) I disconnected the messages app from my phone and stopped using it (pretty sure there was a reason but I can't remember it). I now want to start using it again but when I open the app and allow everything, none of the messages and conversations I've had since November appear, the last one on there is from the 23rd of Nov. How can I get all my recent conversations onto the iMessage app on my Mac?

I am not entirely sure I understand which bit you had not working.
It appears to be the iPhone version at the top of the post but then you talk about getting the iMessages on the Mac.
Anyway I am not sure that it is that important.
Any device whether and iPhone or Mac will show the iMessages sent to it (either to iPhone or Apple ID) if it is not linked to the other device.
At the point to Link them (Add the Apple ID to the iPhone effectively and then accept the pop ups on the Mac) then the iMessages sent to the other ID (iPhone Number counts as an ID here) with "sync" as Apple Calls it, and you will see the iMessages on either device sent to either ID from that point On only.
The iMessages sent to the iPhone Number are effectively duplicated and sent individually to the iPhone and any other registered device.
Each is then Pushed to the devices. Only the Mac can accept the one pushed to it. the iPhone can only accept the one pushed to it.
Once the device has the iMessages they are deleted from the Server (unlike emails that can be left on the Server and Fetched later of by any new device).
There is also a Timed Out factor if a device is Off line fro too long (an iPhone can be de-registered in this time if it happens)
I.e. if there was only one device registered for iMessages there was only one copy of the iMessages at that time and it will have been deleted.

Not showing recent messages in Yahoo Groups

I have noticed in the past week or so that messages to a couple of Yahoo Groups are not posting promptly. Right now Firefox is showing me no messages posted since 7:17 a.m. even though I can see in Internet Explorer that messages have been posted at 8:37 a.m. and 12:36 p.m. that have not yet shown up when I view the Yahoo Group in Firefox.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Push is supported with a Yahoo account created with the Yahoo account preset, with an Apple iCloud account, and with an Exchange account?
If the account is a POP account, are you also accessing the account with an email client on your computer that remains launched and running actively checking the account for new messages which your iPhone is doing the same?
If yes, what is the account setting with the email client on your computer for removing messages from the server after being downloaded?

Mail not showing recent messages

I have my mail set up to show last 50 messages, but as soon as I read a message, it disappears on my phone. I have my mail set up to fetch, should it be on push or manual or does it not matter? It's just frustrating when I'm out and need to access my email and it's no longer on my phone.

Why has the Show recent messages been removed from IOS7?

Mail Contacts & Calendars used to have an option to limit the number of emails stored locally
The feature has been removed, why? or maybe it's been moved ?
Any ideas?

IMessage always closes at startup and deletes recent messages

Dear users,
Every time when I start my computer (and iMessage), the application says that there is a mistake and it has to be restarted. After re-opening iMessage, it works, but it randomly doesn't show recent messages. Even when I wrote and sent one via my computer, it isn't visible via iMessage at my computer anymore. I can only see some old messages from days ago then.
I hope you can help me.

Hi,
Whilst you can remove the Apple ID from the iMessage one you also can't delete it as an Option.
The Bonjour account is present for everyone and cannot be deleted.
In that sense my comment about "Default" should have also said not deletable.
As you have no AIM or Jabber IDs (or even Yahoo) accounts set up it is not going to be those Logins that are the issue (or the .plists that deal with them).
You have to access a file that is in a folder that is Hidden at present.
To get there to this:-
Have a Finder Window Open.
In the Go Menu select Go to Folder and then type ~/Library/Preferences into the dialogue box that appears.
Once in th Preferences find and drag to the Trash com.apple.iChat.plist
Restart Messages.
This .plist holds many of the Preferences you can change in Messages and some of the account info.
If deleting that one does not work then delete (Drag to Trash) com.apple.imservice.iMessages.plist
On restarting Messages you may need to re-enter your Apple ID as the .plist here holds your Apple ID and the "Aliases" linked with it.
IF this does not work repeat the process and move com.apple.iMessages.bag.plist to the Trash
This one holds the server name that Messages is connecting to for the iMessages account.
Again Restart Messages.

In Mail on my iPhone I have selected show 200 recent messages but only 10 appear how can I fix this?

I have just recently noticed that in my Mail inbox on my iPhone 5 it is only showing 10 or so previous messages. I have turned my phone on and off, reset mail settings and made sure I have selected show 200 recent messages but still only a few show up. I have also just added my Uni email account to my iPhone and it hasn't loaded any previous emails, it's just an emty mailbox. I really need to be able to search for my previous emails so if someone knows how to fix this please help!

Try resetting your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up. Then if still doing, restore your phone in itunes from your backup.

Critical : i think "Mail show n Recent Messages" just got it wrong

hi, it's been a while that i had tried the smallest setting for this "Mail > Show 25 Recent Messages" for something (i thought maybe it helped Mail to work faster) I cannot feel it exactly, but i just think of it as a good behaviour for me to read and trash unused messages right away so i can manage the mails.
But, unexpectedly, Mail App has acted strange. I was not sure about this until this morning i found 89 New Mails from my boss and only some spilled into my Mail App because "right now i got more than 25 Messages stored in my app" and yet not deleted them.
I just wanted to discuss about this because, in some ways, New Mails are essentially need to be read, and we have to store some, too. But if "Mail > 25 Recent Messages" means i will only strangled myself to whatever i wished to keep, this function has got it wrong. it surely does not mean that i do not want to read any new messages which has just come, right?
In a way, you might tell me to change it to bigger number of storage, which i already did, but i only hoped that you might find other good ways for us to "let me know that i have to clean up my inbox so Mail App can fetch new mails in for you" or something.
Here are my suggestions in a flash:
• notice us by a badge, and when we entered the mail app, notice us again that you know new mails are at the server, but because i had reached my mail limit, i have to trash something or expand the limitation.
• gray-out something old, and put something new on top, it sounds strange though.

You could always just scroll to the bottom of the Inbox screen and click on the load more messages link.

In mail how do I stop messages from the same sender from showing up when I select the most recent message from a sender?

on my iMac, when I view messages there is a grey number at the top of the message. This number denotes the amount of messages from that sender and when I view the most recent message in my mailbox (from that sender) all of the older messages load with it and this takes a while for the message to become moarked as "read." I know that I can turn this off because I have mountain lion on my air and i do not have this issue. how can i turn it off?

I'm using IMAP. In webmail, my inbox shows many messages. In Thunderbird, my inbox shows only the latest message. My subscribed folders sync just fine.

IPhone Mail App not showing all messages

I have set my iphone mail settings to show 500 recent messages, but it only shows 10 messages - how do i get past this problem?

What Kind of email account is it.
If the account is Gmail or Yahoo, those are IMAP accounts which all messages can be retrieved from the server over and over again if you remove the account and re-add it.
Now if you are using like a SBC-Global, ATT.net, Bellsouth, Anything that is a POP3 Account it will only download new message and not past ones.
