Show source folder name within Aperture

Is it possible, within Aperture, to see where the actual image is stored on my hard drive? ie, the path and folder structure?
I would think it would be an option when the bottom viewer is set up to show the columns of text (rather than images)...
Or an option within File Info.
But I'm not seeing it.
Thanks

File>Manage Referenced Images... will show the file paths, but you can't see it via normal metadata.

  • Bad folder name inside aperture project folders

    Hello,
As a consequence of a kernel panic, macos partition died and I had to reinstall macos (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10349974#10349974). However windows 7 was ok so I did the backup of aperture library from same machine with windows (macdrive).
I copy pasted back the aperture library from external hard drive, and I get for every picture, "unsupported image format". It appears to be that all folder names inside of every .approject folder where modified. Instead of being something like:
    2009-05-10 @ 10/12/10 PM - 1.apimportgroup
    it is
    2009-05-10 @ 101210 PM - 1.apimportgroup
When I change the "_" with "/" everything goes back normal.
I have a lot of projects, so changing every folder name back manually will take years, specially when you need to right click and click show package contents for every folder to get to the bad ones.... You know a workaround for this or a quick way to change all folders name?
    Thanks a lot,
    Best,
Its aperture 2.1.4 under mac os 10.6.2, macbook pro 15' mid 2007 2.4 core 2 duo, 500 seagate momentus 7200 rpm hard drive, corsair 4gb cl4

    puco,
If you adept at using the terminal/shell and a couple of unix utilities you can have this fixed up in no time with a variety of shell script and regular expressions (or another scripting language of your choice like perl, awk, etc, etc) as long as you are sure you know what the folder names were. Since they were all changed by WINDOZE in the same way it is a piece of cake to fix.
A lot of people have this issue when dealing with multiple OS/file systems copies but I mention this solution to you only because you seem clever enough to diagnose it - you can probably deal with a short fix-it script yourself as well.

  • Trying to write an Automator program to find files with same time created and change file names to matching source folder names

I am failrly green when it comes to automator.
I am trying to write an Automator program:
Not sure where to post this
trying to write an Automator program to find files and alter their names
I have a source folder with correct named master files in it.
    eg. A0001_1234.mpeg
    time created 14:02:03
    date 07/07/2012
Another folder where there will be copies of the master files in a different format with different names but created at the same time as a file in the source directory.
they are created with a seperate device but they are
    A0000001.mp4
    time created 14:02:03
    date 07/07/2012
I need it to then take the name from the source fies and apply the correct name to the matching file based on the time it was created.
I can't seem to find actions in automator that reference time crated.
Is this something I will be able to Do in automator?
    Any help would be great

    Hi,
It's impossible to do this without any script in Automator.
    Use this AppleScript script :
set source to choose folder with prompt "Select the source folder"
set anotherfolder to choose folder with prompt "Choose the another folder"
    tell application "Finder"
repeat with tfile in (get files of source)
set cDate to creation date of tfile
set findFiles to (files of anotherfolder whose creation date is cDate)
if findFiles is not {} then
set tName to name of tfile
set name of item 1 of findFiles to tName
            end if
        end repeat
    end tell

    Muchas gracias!

Now that I think about this a little more, I'm guessing you want two further pieces of information.
You don't want just the name of the folders, you want their path, and you want to capture subfolders as well, correct?
If that's the case, try this:
    tell application "Finder"
      -- get the starting folder
set topFolder to (choose folder with prompt "Please select the top folder")
      -- get all subfolders
set subfolders to (every folder of entire contents of topFolder as alias list)
-- open a file to write the data to
set myFile to (open for access file (((path to desktop folder) as text) & "folders.txt") with write permission)
      set eof myFile to 0
      -- remember our current TIDs
set oldTID to my text item delimiters
      -- iterate through the folders
      repeat with eachFolder in subfolders
-- break the path based on colons
set my text item delimiters to ":"
set folderPath to text items of (eachFolder as text)
-- set the TIDs to a tab
set my text item delimiters to tab
        - and convert the path to a tab-delimited string
set tabDelimitedText to folderPath as text
-- now write that text to the file
write tabDelimitedText & return to myFile
      end repeat
-- clean up, restoring TIDs to what they were
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
      -- and close the file
      close access myFile
    end tell

  • Aperture crashed on me, then it did a rebuild but now when I try to open it all I get is the message: Warning. There was an error opening the database for the library "/Users/[Folder name]/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary".Only option is to press 'Quit'

I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to how I can re-open Aperture again.  It has been increasingly flaky recently and this isn't the first time it has done a rebuild but is the first time it has failed to start up.  Most of my photos are referenced.  Many thanks for any help you can give.

    Dave-
You can try opening the old (problem) library by launching Aperture into Library First Aid mode and choosing to Repair (first option) or Rebuild the library. Before doing this, make a backup copy of the old library, since both Repair or Rebuild will write changes to the library database.
Repair is the faster and less drastic option, so try that first: After backing up your library, hold down both the Option and Command keys while dragging and dropping the problem library on the Aperture icon. The Photo Library First Aid window appears. Select Repair Database, then click Repair. After some time Aperture should open the library, if possible.
If that fails launch Aperture back into Library First Aid and select Rebuild Database. Depending on the size of your library this operation could take some time, up to several hours for a very large library. When the main window appears you may have some extra Recovered folders/projects. This operation rebuilds the library from scratch and is usually successful at reviving problem libraries.

  • Make content area Folder Names within Portlets non-linkable fields

We would like to only allow the administrator to be allowed link to content areas so as to maintain a consistent look and feel and not allow the user to leave Portal.

Thanks for the info, however, turning off the header region also
eliminates the "customize" feature -- which is something I would
like my users to have. Also, I think you may be mistaken (or
maybe I wasn't clear) about the approval icon. It does NOT
appear when a folder is rendered through a portlet, regardless
of folder ownership. It only appears when a folder is rendered
    as a page.
I am looking forward to the next release.
p.s. I see the new find feature has been added since my last
    post.

  • EA 4500 does not show chinese folder names

After plugged in a hard disk through the USB port, only English file names can
be viewed, and all Chinese (both traditional and simplied) were displayed as
numbers and alphabets! Do I need to download any language packs? Please help!

Hi, I believe that you will only be able to view folders with Chinese characters as file name if the language of your computer is also on Chinese. To verify this hypothesis, try to connect your external HDD directly to your computer and check if the folders with Chinese character file names will be detected.

  • Full folder names don't show.

In iOS, file/folder names are shortened when they cannot be displayed in one line. However, viewing a folder name within a folder still shows its shortened name. The expected result is that it should show its full, non-shortened name.
"Cloud File Managers" is the full name of the folder.
    Hopefully this gets resolved.

  • Find photos by Folder name or Import Folder name into Metadata

In iPhoto, I can locate photos by folder name. Is this available in Aperture (Managed or Referenced)? From what I've seen, you can only search on metadata fields, none of which contain folder names.
If I cannot search on folder names, can Aperture import folder names into Metadata automatically. In other words, if I import a directory tree 2009Games, with subfolders Game-ABC, Game-DEF, etc.
Can Aperture insert the subfolder name into the photo's metadata? I know I can add the text manually, but I would like Aperture to import a top level folder like 2009Games, and add the subfolder directory name to each photo's metadata.
If that is not an option, how does someone migrate from folder organization to metadata searches without renaming every photo?

What project and folder naming structure do you intend to use in Aperture to manage your collection?
The inclusion of the file name in metadata for searching purposes seems to be redundant as you can always, if you really need to, see where a particular image is located on the hard disk by right clicking on it in Aperture and selecting "Show in Finder".

  • Changing "untitled event" no longer changes coinciding folder name

I guess this doesn't cause any sort of problem, but is a change I've noticed and just trying to figure out why. I just upgraded to the new iPhoto '09. I recently uploaded photos from my camera and then changed the folder name from "untitled event" to a custom name, as I've done many times in the past. Previously, if I then went to "show package contents" in the iPhoto library, the new name I had changed the event to would also show as the folder name within the iPhoto library. Suddenly that's not happening since the upgrade. My most recent folder was changed, but when I look at that same folder in the package contents, it still just shows the date and not the custom name. Has anyone else noticed this? Again, not a problem, or causing any issues. But I do find it odd that the event name now would no longer coincide with one another.

No one is - and no one is really happy about it - but since you really don't (at least shouldn't) go into the iPhoto library very often it also is not a giant deal

  • Data Modeler - Source/Target Name

I have imported a logical model from Oracle Designer and need to show the "source/target" names. I could do this easily in version 2 of the Data Modeler through the Logical Model , "Show Source/Target Name" option of the Diagram pane (from Tools | General Options). The documentation for version 3 indicates that I should still be able to do the same thing (except Tools | Preferences), but I lack the "Show Source/Target Name" option in my version 3.0.0.665 of the Data Modeler. Is this a bug, or am I looking in the wrong place in this new version?

    Hi,
Please see the Data Modeler Forum message option Show Source/Target Name “on” in the logic model for an answer to this question.

  • DM 3.0 source/target names

how did you manage to lose
the "Show Source/Target Name" check box
    from tools\general options (now preferences)\diagram\logical model ?!!!

We found that many users did not want to use the preferences, or did not find the freferences to control this and so it has been moved (not lost) to the diagrams themselves. In the white space on your diagram select Show > Labels.

  • Use AppleScript to remove a specific word/phrase from Multiple Folder names

Within one of my folders I have hundreds of Folders that have specific words or phrases in the names I would like to remove using apple script.
For instance if the folder names all contain the word "Default" what script could I write to remove "Default" from the names of all folders with it in the name.
So, if folder is named "bobDefault"  how could I get it to remove Default and keep bob and then continue on the rest of the folder names within the main folder.  I appreciate any help you may provide.

The following should do the trick (if there's always a space before the left parenthesis):
    set theFolder to choose folder
tell application "Finder" to set theNames to name of folders of theFolder
    set theNewNames to {}
    repeat with thisName in theNames
set P1 to offset of "(" in thisName
set P2 to offset of ")" in thisName
         if P1 * P2 > 0 then
               try
                     get (text (P1 + 1) thru (P2 - 1) of thisName) as integer
set theString to text P1 thru P2 of thisName
set thisName to replace(space & theString, "", thisName)
               on error
                     -- no change
               end try
         end if
copy thisName to the end of theNewNames
    end repeat
tell application "Finder" to repeat with k from 1 to (count theNames)
         try
set name of folder (item k of theNames) of theFolder to (item k of theNewNames)
         end try
    end repeat
    on replace(A, B, theText)
         set {TID, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {AppleScript's text item delimiters, {A}}
         set {theTextItems, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {text items of theText, {B}}
         set {theText, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {theTextItems as text, TID}
         return theText

  • Conflict with folder names in Source Path

I'm trying to include two source folders, both named src - my Flash Builder project only allows one - doesn't show the second. One reference uses an absolute path on an external drive to my source and the other a relative path to the fl.motion classes. I can rename my source folder but it's referenced in a lot of projects and I was hoping there was another solution.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to accomplish the result based on your directions. There were a few minor things I had to adjust:
    - File->New->File should read File->New->Folder
    - also, I discovered when adding the new virtual folder to the source path there is no GUI file dialog to find and pick it - it requires that you enter the new file name.
However, great advice and thanks for the solve.
