Sometimes I feel like I'm being punished. Perhaps it's just
bad Karma. I don't know.
All I did was change the styles used to create new topics
(Framemaker Document Settings window > Style Settings tab >
Pagination Settings box). Originally, I selected H1, H2, H3, and
H4. I then decided that I wanted to include the H3 and H4 content
in the same topic as their parent H2 topic, so I deselected the H3
and H4 check boxes. After performing an Update All on the project,
RH crashed. Ok, so I reverted to the original selections (H1-H4).
This time I tried a force update. Crash! Now, no matter which
styles I select, RH crashes when performing an update action.
Did I do something wrong? Is there some piece of information
somewhere that says I shouldn't have edited those settings?

Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned I'm running 7.02.
I deleted the CPD file. When I opened the project again, I
received the following error:
"An error occurred while trying to read data from <C:\ . .
. . RHFrameDocs.apj> <3>."
Another problem: The topics appear in my RH project, but now
there is no live link with the FM book. I can't perform an update
action by right-clicking over the book.
It seems this project is sliding deeper into the abyss.
Perhaps I should just create a new project and copy over the CSS
file.

Show stopper: can't import tiff files with camera raw adjustments

For RAW NEF files (coming from a Nikon D80), Aperture doesn't pick up adjustments I've made in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) when I import them, even though the .xmp "sidecar" files are sitting there in the folder next to the them. Do I have to do something to get Aperture to pay attention to the .xmp files?
Similarly, Aperture doesn't read ACR adjustments I've made to TIFF files. I've read on the web that adjustments made to TIFF files cannot be stored in "sidecar" xmp files. That's clearly true since I don't see the .xmp files sitting next to my tiff files in my image directory -- but my ACR adjustments are stored when I reload the TIFF files in ACR.
In any case, Aperture doesn't seem to recognize either RAW files with sidecar .xmp info, or TIFF files that have ACR adjustments baked in.
This is a show stopper for me and I'd love to use Aperture for its 'Faces' functionality. Does anyone know a fix for this issue?

the kind of conversion you are talking about is likely a pipe dream.
I gave it a quick look myself just now. the .lrcat file that lightroom has isn't binary & looks just like a huge list of adjustment data for entries in the database. For example, the curves on one of my images looks like this:

So it wouldn't be difficult to write a .lrcat > .xmp exporter (basically going back from one Lightroom database to many .xmp files) or a batch .xmp > .lrcat exporter (going from many .xmp files to one Lightroom database).
Looking at the contents of Aperture's .aplibrary package, there's an xml record of all files entered in the database, and I found what looks like image edits in the 'versions' folder -- but unfortunately the edits are stored in a binary format.
Oh well, I guess this is why Aperture is a bit faster than Lightroom -- but will make it very difficult to write a converter to get edits into Aperture. & unless Apple adds edit info to their .xmp sidecar exporter (Export Masters) & includes a batch mode.. we wont be able to get info out of Aperture. So, for the moment, this apparent lack of an open format keeps Aperture from being a professional tool imho, compare to Lightroom.
..but for me there's no reason to switch from ACR to Lightroom because there's no facial recognition, and the curve editing utility is better in ACR.

Keywords imported but don't show up with photos

I am not getting keywords to show up with imported photos. i've done a lot of searching on this and other forums to try to figure out what is different about my situation but to no avail. here's what I've deduced though:
the keywords will import if I deselect “Copy the items to the iPhoto Library”. But if I leave the default box checked", I will not get keywords associated with the photos.
(the rest of my discussion deals with a library where the imported photos ARE copied to the library)
Interestingly, the keywords ARE imported into iPhoto (if one looks at the keyword list); they just aren't attached to the photos (i.e. clicking <Get Info> shows no keywords, as opposed to them being there but just not showing up on the screen with the image). Most (but not all) of my imported photos show up in iPhoto without any keywords attached. Most Events are all-or-nothing; i.e. all the photos of the event either have keywords or don’t. At least one Event is a mix. I cannot make any sense as to why some do, as the ones that do will be part of an event that all the other photo's don't show the keywords; additionally, neither the ones with nor the ones without keywords share any common feature or change (e.g. edited, rotated, file type, keyword/tag name, etc.).
I'm a pretty basic user when it comes to photos (but with a fair amount of common sense and computer knowledge); not trying to do anything fancy here. I don't know much about photography, so I'm not manipulating photo settings on my camera and am not (purposefully/knowingly) manipulating the metadata directly from the file. So, I'm baffled as to why my system would be acting differently than any other "out of the box" iMac.
In case it matters:
-- the photos being imported originated from a Windows-based PC and tagged by Adobe Photoshop Elements. I have the same problem regardless of whether I export them (using Photoshop) to a file on the iMac or directly import them over the network from the PC using iPhoto.
-- (Using iPhoto Library Manager) I created another iPhoto library to see if the same thing would happen with photos imported to a different library -- same problem. (BTW, I checked the new library's Keywords BEFORE I imported to make sure the keyword "library" wasn't somehow replicated from the previous library.)
-- In one of your forum discussions, you said that these “copies” would be in the “Originals” folder within the iPhoto package, right? If so, then they are the same size as the files being imported minus a few KBs, presumably due to the lack of associated keywords.
I assume that these "copied" files are suppose to retain their keyword/tag info. Any ideas why they aren't and/or what I can do about it? I tried rebuilding the database too but that didn't do any good. I'm figuring on trying to reimport everything again, but I fear I'll get the same result.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try the simple fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and see if the keywords show up. If not, then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.
The "Staged" folder is present and remains after a restart, but the extensions do not get installed. They show in the extensions page with the "will be installed after you restart Firefox" message and remain like this no matter how many times I restart.
Any Idea's?

P.S. Just tried to install the "troubleshooter" add-on before posting the question and I got an error saying it cannot install because it cannot modify the needed file. (I did it manually instead)

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

Change Table Fields in "Costing" in with Project System (PPM 5.0)

I need to know, how can I change fields in "Costing" with Project System (Project Management in tab name "Accounting").
The integration works well, but I need to view the values of: Actual, Plan and Commitment.
In the Standard way, just only can see the Plan (with the colum "Costs").

The particular screen you are referring to will only show the planning on Easy Cost Planning due to the labour costs and revenues planned on the cProject. You can use the services&deatil on the assignment - click on the WBS assigned to get the detailed list of services for the assigned WBS element. You can then click on Detail Data to get detailed data on the assigned WBS element. If you want a report with all the data, best use the BW cubes for that to combine cP and PS data.

Zoom operation crashed Acrobat with Project 2007 content

I have some PDF created with Project 2007 contents on them. These file can be view normally. However, as soon as I zoomed in the MS Project content within the PDF, Acrobat crashed, regardless when it was standalone or within a browser. Can someone advice what the problem might be?

Acrobat is capable of most of what you are asking for. The user can click on a part to select it, then, by right-clicking on the selected part they can select "Zoom to part" from the context menu. I am unsure how to author a 3D model so that the individual part information shows up in the Data panel of the sxtructure tree, but I have seen many files that do exactly that. I believe that this has to be done in the authoring application. As for the detailed 3D model of the individual part, Acrobat 3D gives you the ability to authro different views, which can contain individual parts. The best way to do this is to make the view of the individual part a Comment View. This type of view maintains all of the specific issues of the view.
I think that all of the attributes you've asked for are supported by Acrobat 3D in one way or another.

CFMAIL (CF5) sends with many corrupted characters

I'm maintaining a system that sends out email mailings. The
same server hosts some Cf applications that also send out some
mails every once in a while. It has been working fine for a long
time. However, in the past few weeks, the server started sending
out the emails with many corrupted characters in them.
There is no error in the logfiles or something, but it seems
like when CF gets too busy sending emails, it starts sending memory
dumps in the mail or so.
What happens exactly is this. I send out mailings to about
10.000 people. It loops over a query that gets these people and
sends out one mail for every 100 persons with the code:

The code between the HTML tags is exactly as it should be ,
only mailclients don't understand this anymore and show the
complete HTML code as a text message.
This happens when I send out HTML mails, but when sending
text-emails, the very same happens sometimes.
It's running on CF5 on win2k.
I really hope that somebody can help me out!

In iTunes, select your Music Library (the first entry at the top left in the side bar)
Press cmd & A keys (Select All)
In the menu bar, go to Advanced > Convert ID3 tags. Click on "None" to reveal the choices available and choose version 2.4, then on click OK.
Note: this will not repair damaged accented characters on songs you have already played since updating to iTunes 7.7. You should correct these before updating the tags.

Adobe Premiere shows "Created with Adobe Premiere trial version" I thought it's a fully function trial isn't that right? I made one project to test the program and it didn't have that on the screen but when i started working on the second one it started showing the message on all the videos "fyi i just downloaded it today"

It may depend on which Codec you are using. I know we had to reduce the functionality of Premiere in the past due to licensing concerns. Was there differences in the encoding you used for the video between the two projects?

You should be able to simply sync with iTunes again in order to reload all of you apps and media. That is why iTunes prompted you to transfer the purchases. You may have to select all of the content again when you click on each tab in the iTunes window on the right, but the content should be in your iTunes library.
You should also be able to restore from the backup that iTunes created before the update took place in order to restore your app data. When the iPad is connected to your computer and with iTunes running, right click on the iPad on the left side and select "Restore From Backup". A window will popup with a drop down list of all of the available backups for the device. Select the one that you want to use and restore from it.

Network render engine with projects over 2gb?

I recently set up a network render farm using Adobe CS4 and adobe's render engine. I have no problem collecting my files over my network using the renderfarm for projects with resource files and project files smaller than 2 GB. However, working with HD footage, my resource files are usually significantly larger than this. When ever I try to collect my files over the network to my watchfolder in projects over 2GB AE always fails. Adobe clearly states this issue in there not so helpful, help guide:

I'm sure this is a simple issue that simply requires someone who has actually set up a network renderfarm (adobe technical support was very helpful in taking my money and reading to me this line from the manual) The problem is this vague line does not describe how to build the corresponding folder structures in your watch folder. I've tried mimicking the folder structures that AE generated on my watch folder with projects less then 2GB but have had no success. I feel like, and this is just me speculating, but there has to be some file brought to the watch folder, along with the resource files that triggers my watch folder into action. I guess to summarize, how do I use my CS4 network renderfarm for projects with resource files over 2GB. Any suggestions would seriously brighten my boss's day (& since I pushed so hard for this render farm and indirectly brighten mine)

Thank you so much for your help, we are now rendering files larger then 2gb and without copying the files and duplicating them on our network drives. Could you also give us a hand with trying to optimize our render farm machines so that they will render as quickly as possible. We have two machines dedicated to rendering that have 4GB of ram and 2.53 ghz xeon processors that are showing 8 cpus in the task manager of the machines. When we are rendering only 4 of the CPUs show activity and we are unsure what setting in the preferences of our render engines below would be the absolute best for rendering speed, and to get those other 4 cpus to kick in. thank you in advance.

Project Server 2013 - Graphical Indicators - Not showing until the project is published via Project Pro 2013

I have a custom field on a PDP that is used to manually flag a project for review. Once the field is set to "Flag" a red flag should show on the Project Summary page prompting the Portfolio Manager to follow up. The red flag only appears
after publishing the project via Project Pro 2013 not by just editing the PDP via Explorer (Save and Check in).
This occurs on both projects that were created prior to the graphical indicator being added to the PDP and new projects.
Now if instead of using the red flag graphical indicator I just used the text "FLAGGED" that would work fine.
So is this a bug? Or is something setup incorrectly? Or is this how PWA is supposed to handle graphical indicators on the project summary page?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I made the following test: I create 2 project ECF both inserted in the Project details PDP:
for review: flag type field with graphical indicator in case value = yes
for review_2: text type field (with a yes/no look-up table) with graphical indicator in case value = yes
Whitout going to Project Pro, I'm able to modify the 2 fields for any project (created before or after the ECFs creation) and the graphical indicators are instantaneously shown in the summary project center view (just pressing F5).
Note that the graphical indicator is not shown in the PDP, just the text value. Note also that I've not been to Project Pro neither to PWA/schedule PDP to publish the project plan.

Sounds like something is running in the background. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking bar. Hold down one of the icons until they start to wiggle and you see a minus sign. Tap on the minus signs and close all of the applications there. Then tap on the home button to close the bar.
Now reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, see if this is corrected. If not, then the next step is a restore, first from a backup, and lastly if needed as a new device. It is possible you may have to do it as a new device as there may be a corrupt file that will carry over from the backup that is causing the behavior you describe.

No Java is such a show stopper...

No java stored procdures is such a limiting factor, I think it's a show stopper for me to make any use out of this product.
Any chance that Oracle is going to re-think this?

While I agree with your grief you also gotta remember that
- XE fights in the same space as MS Access, and you might need to add the potential plethora of MS Access 'databases' to your '20 production databases' count to get a more accurate perspective;
- XE would need 3-5x the footprint to include Java in the database, which defeats the quick download and easy install requirement;
- The target community is NOT the professional DBA, and those in the target are often frightened by 'Java'.
I was also very disappointed to hear that XE would not include Java. I got over it, but still have hope to see it as an optional add-on download for the next release.
By the way - portability means different things to different people. Based on experience, I am very wary of people trying to sell me anything that is 'totally portable between rdbms such as DB2, Oracle, MySQL, etc'. I've found that those kinds of portability often waste my time and money, for the reasons best described by Tom Kyte in the first chapter of each of his books.

Any Problem Running Office 2010 SP2 with Project Server 2010 SP1?

We are running Project Server 2010 SP1 April 2013 CU and the desktop clients have now been upgraded to SP2 October 13 CU. We are having issues with projects in local cache showing as checked out when they are not actually checked out on the server. I was
wondering if it is problematic to run the desktop client on a newer service pack than the server and if it could cause this type of issue?

The answer is YES, you'll probably have some issues.
I would recommend:
Downgrade clients to match Server's version
Upgrade Server to SP2+October '13 CU
And my preferred:
Upgrade Server and clients to SP2 + '14 April CU

Error 200284 keep showing up with DAQmx/USB6259

This error of 200284 has been persistantly showing up in my high speed data acqusition using DAQmx Read with USB6259 running LV8.5.1 and DAQmx 8.7.1. I tried most of the approaches discussed on this forrum regarding this error such as increasing time out and sample rate, but still getting it. I stripped down the application that I recently took over and attached the basic vi..please voice any suggestions, thoughts, solutions, and comments, I really would like to see this code work out as it is our basic stuff. many thanks in advance.
A little more detail...the original code (and this striped down version) would run for a minute or so with the loop index getting to over 20k, or 40k..but most likely stop before 60k with unpredictable numbers...thanks again for taking a look at the vi.

I went to restart the NI variable engine and disabled the ZoneAlarm and firmwall, the variable engin now runs and not stopped, but the VI still stopps with the error 200284. Anythings else you think might be the issue here? I really need to get this thing working as I have been on it for a few days now...please help. Thanks again. continuesouly with the same waveform function. The input chain reads
a detector contineously as DAQmx Read was put into the while loop. The
start of the output waveform was triggered by the input chain so that
the light source and data acquisition are synchronized. We never had
problem to start the data acquisition as we always read the correct
waveform back. The error seem to alway came from the DAQmx Read
function in the while loop as the code on the left side of the while
loop onlys runs once, while the while loop will keeping running, until
it stops a minute or so later by the error 200284.
Usually,
when this type of -200284 error occurs, it is due to a problem with not
receiving a trigger or sample clock edges. Perhaps something is
happening to the analog output task that is affecting the analog input
channel since it is using the ao/sampleclock.
I will check further on the output task setup in MAX..if this is the issue, what is the recommended setup for the output task?
A
couple of other things I would like to know more about are why you are
reading just a single sample each loop iteration and also what your
application involves since I noticed the program samples numerous times
on the first channel for each single sample on the others. What overall
rate are you trying to accomplish as well? Please let me know if you
have any additional insight into your application. Regards,

was only reading a single sample for the demo purpose as it generates
similar error as in the original application where we read all
channels. The first channel is where the detector response are read and
are accessed at the highest frequency. That is why we build 992
instances for this channel and leave the other 8 channels to read some
other environmental parameters which happens at a less frequent time.
This allows us to keep data acquisition going without restart other
tasks. This was recommended by an NI engineer earlier to another
enginer here and was work fine.
The following are some of our input parameters:
On
the Outuput side: Waveform Scan Rate or Frequency (Hz): 1000 Number
of Points in Waveform is 1000, Waveform Update Rate is: 1000000/s,
this final rate goes to output timing VI
On
the Input side: Number of Sample Spectrum (total numb. of
channels) 1000. Number slow channels: 8. Input sample rate:
1000000(Hz). This rate/1000=1000/s goes to the input timing VI
