Show the timeline timecode?

It there a way to actually see the timeline timecode? I set a specific starting timecode in my project settings but the timecode display in the middle doesn't show it. It just counts up. And I don't see any other window to display it. Thank you.

Something is very wrong. When I play a project with the start time set at one hour, the Dashboard displays starting at 1:00:00:00. Same think when I'm skimming. The only time I don't see that timecode is when I have the clip skimmer active and then I see the clip timecode. This is what I see
Hopefully the image will appear in the forum. Perhaps you can post a screen shot of what you're seeing.

  • Showing the real timecode on keyword collection clips

When I create clips in a Keyword collection is there any way to have them show the correct timecode when in a list view? Under the media start column the timecode appears to be the starting timecode of the main clip the keyworded clips are from.
In fact once I have made a keyword collection with a lot of clips (in this case it is long interviews with keyword clips for different parts) I can't figure out any way to sort those clips in the keyword collection. They seem to be there randomly. Like sorting by timecode would put them in order but since the start column is all the same it won't sort them.
Seems a simple thing so I must be overlooking something.

Say I have a hour long clip that has start timecode of 02:10:10:10
I make lots of keyword selctions called Good Bite. When I got to that keyword collection and go to a list view and look at the Media Start column every one of those clips in that keyword collection show a start time of 02:10:10:10
Though they clearly aren't really that start time as many of them all come later out of that same clip. I can see the REAL timecode in the timecode viewer at the bottom. Since the media start doesn't show the right timecode there is not way to sort by that timecode or even use that as a refrence.
This seems like a HUGE oversight as seeing timecode is important. The timecode is there the column just doesn't show it, it shows the timecode of the first frame of the clip the keyword subclip came from. These seems very wrong.
Does that make sense? This seems like such a simple thing.

  • How to include the timeline counter in the sequence

    PPCS4
This sounds asif it ought to be simple, yet I can't find a way to do it!
How do I show the timeline counter in the  sequence?
I want to create a DVD of project and include the time count on screen.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers

Place the sequence containing your editing timeline into a new sequence.
In the Effects panel, type "timec" into the search box.
Apply the Timecode effect to your sequence clip.
Export via Encore to DVD.  You may need to render first to see the timecode overlay depending on the format of your source footage.
Remember that F1 is your friend and that Google is pretty helpful, too.

  • SCC files not matching timeline timecode

Has anyone run into a problem with their SCC file for Closed Captioning not lining up with the timeline timecode? We had our Captioning done by a professional captioning company and a text file they provided, which matches the SCC file timecodes, lines up perfectly with the timeline in Encore (since we provided them a window burn of the timeline). But when the disc is burned, and played back on a TV, the captions start off right and then over the course of the almost two hour program, drift to be off by 7 seconds near the end. I noticed that the DVD display time does not match my timeline timecode and is off by a few seconds at least. My sources and timelines are all drop-frame, so I tried changing all of the colons in the SCC file to semi-colons using WordPad, but that didn't make a difference. Any help would be appreciated, as I am out of ideas. I am trying a test now with adding the SCC file before I transcode (maybe it didn't like an .m2v file being linked to an SCC).
    Help?!?

    Hi Ruud,
Yes, the timecode matches the timeline...
The last line should appear at: 1:52:23:23 as shown in the .txt file that they supplied as a reference.
    --> Display at 01:52:23:23
    --> Erase at 01:52:27:05
IN THE LAND OF BLOOD AND OIL.
    --> Display at 01:53:15:29
I don't know what the last "Display" line is for, but below is the actual caption file (SCC) that I opened in WordPad:
    01:52:22:28 9420 9420 9470 9470 97a2 97a2 49ce 2054 c845 204c c1ce c420 4f46 20c2 4c4f 4fc4 20c1 cec4 204f 494c ae80 942c 942c 942f 942f
    01:52:27:03 942c 942c
    01:53:15:27 942c 942c
They don't seem to match perfectly, but they seem to be really close and both are within frames of my timeline. I tried a test to re-encode within Encore after attaching the SCC file to the video and that made no difference. Any other ideas? Again, my DVD timer has a end time of 01:52:13 or something (depends on the player), which doesn't quite match the timeline (off by 6 or 7 seconds). My source timecode and timeline timecode are identical throughout the program, so I don't get it.

  • How to I get a marker name to show in the timeline?

I must have done something to disable it, but I recall marker names displaying in the Timeline when a marker is selected. Now I have to open the marker to see the name. How to I re-enable the display so marker names show in the timeline?
(Yes I looked in the FCP manual, but just try and find something like that in the PDF file!)
    thanks

Are the markers on the clips or the timeline?
    You might try view>show overlays
They're on clips and on the timeline itself.
Show Overlays does display them on the timeline (not in the Viewer), but it also displays in/out points and audio timecode. Is it all or nothing?
    thanks,

  • Text created in Premiere showing other text files in the timeline and exports.

    Hi,
I'm creating slates with text generated in Premiere. For each new slate I am duplicating a text layer, Option + Dragging the duplicate file over the text I'd like to replace, then opening the new text layer in the text editor and updating the information.
Things seem fine at first and then randomly text layers in the timeline will show text from other files in the timeline. If I open the text file up in the text editor I see the correct info but not in the timeline.
The only fix I have found is to delete render files, move the text layer around in the timeline, quit and re-open. But still, sometimes when I export, the export preview window will show the wrong text and when I export the file I create shows the wrong text as well.
It seems like Premiere is getting confused by multiple text files in the timeline and is pointing to the wrong cache files.
Thoughts would be a huge help!

Thanks for the tip Kevin. Anything I can do to avoid this in the future?
I've had this happen on a number of projects. My media and project files are on a SAN, cache and previews are local.

  • Greetings, I am working in Final Cut Pro 7. In the timeline some clips show as offline. I tried going to sequence and reconnecting to media but it does not work. I can still see the video in the timeline and work with it. It just has the red box.

If the clips are not actually missing, you could try to refresh the timeline by using cmd-0 and then going to the timeline options tab. Then select name only where it says "thumbnail display". Press ok to accept the change, then repeat the process to add thumbnails back to your timeline.

  • After transferring clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. They show up in the timeline of my project, though. how can I see then in the events browser?

TThose aren't bins. Those are just groupings based on when the content was created or any other selected parameter. Use the action popup in the toolbar tho change the setting.

  • Audio is not showing up in the browser nor the timeline???

i have a question. i recorded a video and viewed it and the video and audio is working. when i imported it and it showed up on the browser the audio outputs were not showing up. also when i tried to dragged it to the timeline the audio tracks didnt show up either. what could this be?? i have a sony dvcam hdv deck in which someone used it and im thinking maybe they changed some settings on the deck?? help please!!??

The VU meter is the audio meter (see FCE 4 user manual from page 56). If a clip include any audio, this meter should move when clip is played from browser to viewer.
The camera audio should be 16 bit 48 kHz. You can use 32 kHz if you select the correct preset in Easy setup dialog box.
Did you see the link provided earlier for patch panel bay use?
The patch panel switch is the way to tell to FCE where (understand on exact layer) adding video and audio in timeline. If the audio switches are disconnected, the edit will insert only video. There is a contextual menu to reset the patch panel switch.

  • FCP7 HELP - Exported quicktime mov plays differently than what I edited on the timeline. The playback shows the clips with ins and outs that are different than what I set in the clips when I edited - some are too early and the clips don't playback

    Please help ASAP.
    Specs: IOS 10.6.8
    Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 -- Everything is edited, sourced, and stored on an 2TB external hard drive to make things go faster.
    Editing with FCP 7
When I export the sequence I edited with quicktime, the playback video is very different from what I edited on the timeline. The playback has the clips with ins and outs that are way off than what I cut, and some of the clips don't show at all or have changed transitions. However when I play in the timeline in FCP, the sequence is fine, just the way I cut it.
The source of the clips was one long .mov that I cut into clips for the timeline. Everything has gone smoothly but the exported .mov is just so different.
How can I get the time codes of the clips to be the same in the exported .movs? I just want the quicktime .mov to represent my edit exactly.
This video is due tomorrow - if the solution is too time consuming, can I play within the FCP player window and Log and Capture?
    Thanks,
    MV

What is your source material? Is it H.264? FCP does not work correctly with that material.
Click on a source clip in the FCP Browser, and once selected, type Command + 9 to see the item properties for the clip. Either report those properties, or take a screen shot of the item properties, and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, and then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those Sequence Settings, or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings and post that here.

  • AVI DV file of 9GB (45 minutes) shows only 2:50 minutes in the timeline.

Hi, I have loaded an AVI DV file of 9GB (45 minutes) in Premiere Pro CS6 but it shows only 2:50 minutes in the timeline. I have loaded much longer files in my timeline and edited it without any problems. I also tried to decode the AVI file but this lowered the quality too much. Can anybody tell me how to solve this problem?

AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • When I perform a split audio edit, the timeline doesn't show it when the clips are collapsed!

Especially the clip whose audio is 'covering' another... the timeline doesn't show it's audio as extending, and it would appear only that the clip for which audio has been shortened, is still there, or at "0"... what gives? If you uncollapse the audio, or detach it, you do, once again, see the split audio.
    Thanks

Like Zambonisurfer suggested, this is so by design.

  • Show all frames in the timeline - CC version

Show all frames option is not available in the track header anymore. How can I see all the frames inside the clips in the timeline?

Click the picture of the wrench (or spanner if you're British) on the timeline
Tick "show video thumbails" from the dropdown menu
THEN go to the flyout menu on the top right of the timeline and choose "continuous video thumbnails"
There are lots of great options in that menu for customising your timeline settings.
Also you can create and save presets for these settings.

iMovie seems to have developed a glitch. When i try to import photos they show in the timeline but not in the movie.
    Any ideas?

You are probably looking in the wrong place - all photos in Photo view and in event too unless you have a corrupted library
most common cause of your not finding them is bad sort - view menu ==> sort events
Nest most common cause is a bad data/time on the camera - this can be corrected using a smart album to find the photos from that camera and then using using the adjust time/date command to fix the bad ones
YOu can alwasy find the event a Photo is in by selecting it and selecting show event
