"Show Transform Controls" Equivalent in Flash CS4? + Other Questions

Hi everyone.
I've been using Adobe Flash CS3 & CS4, and I still find it ridiculously hard to navigate around that Program sometimes, mainly when I have to deal with a Pre-made Flash website that needs Editing.
Allot of people Label layers, Symbols, etc... poorly, so it's hard to find your way around.
I would like to know if these is any Equivalent of "Show Transform Controls" (from Adobe Photoshop), in Adobe Flash CS4.
I have loads of Layers to deal with, and the only way I can get to edit the Layer, is by double clicking on them, then I go to it's timeline and settings.
Most of the times I can't even see some of these Layers/Buttons, as they appear invisible on the Stage/Preview Screen.
How can I more easily Work with my Layers in Flash CS4?
It would be allot easier, if I could click on the Layer in the Pallet, and see an outline of where it is on the Stage.
Or if I could edit the settings of a Layer, by clicking something in the Layers Palette.
I am also trying to figure out how I can change the color of an image to Black/White, I only know how to do this with the Motion Tween Option, that gradually changes the color over those given seconds. I don't want an animation, just permanent color change.
Also when I am moving a Object in one layer,
when I exit and view a different layer, I see that the "Shared" object also moved there too, which I do not want.
Is there any way to unlink these by chance?
Is any of this possible?

[Note]: "View layer as outlines" Does not help me to see where those "Invisible" layers are.

Open your image in Expert mode and press Ctrl+T (Cmd+T on Mac)
When you see the corner and side handles it’s possible to right-click (Control-click) in the center of the image and chose from:
Free Transform
Perspective
Skew
Distort
Rotate

Move tool "Show transform controls" with a type layer

I just recently figured this "show transform controls" option with the Move Tool and while trying it out, I noticed it works differently with type layers than others.
On regular bitmap layers it moves, resizes and rotates as supposed, but with type layer it jumps to "free transform" -function when trying to do anything with the transform controls. Causing the tool to drop and the anchor points change place (from text outline to text box?).
Is this normal behaviour or is there something I don't get?

Yes, being able to assign shortcuts to UI elements would be a major productivity jump in several cases! I tought that it
was the advantage of the object-oriented programming, but I my coding abilities stop at "20 go to 10"...

Show Transform Controls. KEYBOARD SHORTCUT PLEASE ANYONE!!!

I use Photoshop CS5/3 for Drawing and creative art. Hense I measure up images using the awesome 'Show Transform Control' Option Command, whilst in the Move Tool. But im SICK of having to CHECK AND UNCHECK the box. Please somebody tell me where I can find a Keybaord Short Cut Option in the Keybaord Short Cut and Menus Section.

Ive kind of answered my own question.
Keep the 'Show Transform Control' box checked all the time. When 'Show Transform Control' BOUNDING BOX starts getting on your nerves, press: Ctrl + H to HIDE the slections on screen! Dont forget to press Cntrl H to get it back when you switch to other tools.
Hopes this helps speed the job up.

Video Not showing in Capture screen, w/ a few other questions.

Ok, so i've used Final Cut Pro HD for awhile. and have never experienced this problem. I recently just purchased a MacBook Pro for editing on the road. And i had to throw a coverage video together really qucikly. So i captured all the video onto my macbook with out the video showing up in the capture window. I've tried nearly everything including audio/video set ups based on my camera and capture method. So when i exported a small web clip you could see the clips, or when playing them in FCP HD you could see the footage. When i made the self-contained version i was not able to see the footage in the clip, and i also couldnt see it when i tried to watch the clips seperately. I tried updates and other methods to try and fix this problem. So basically i need help with figuring out how to get the video importing to show up in the Capture window. As well as how do i get the clips to show up in quick time when i'm trying to watch them outside of FCP! Any help is appreciated thank you!

Hi, I’m also having the same kind problem with my FCP Log and Capture widow
I own a Dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5.
I’m using Final Cut Pro HD v4.5.
My input is a Panasonic DV Deck using FireWire 400.
I have recently upgraded to the new Operating System, Mac OS 10.4 (10.4.9) from 10.3.9, Before I upgraded it worked fine but now all I can see is FCP default color bars. FCP “DOES” seem to see the deck because I can make the deck Play, Rewind, Pause, etc. it also knows the time on the tape, But no sound and no video just the color bars.
I have my “audio/video settings” set at “DV NTSC 48 kHz” that is what have always used and I believe is the correct setting.
I believe the problem has some thing to do with the new Operating System but I don't know how to fix it.
I also read some thing that made it sound like it could be some thing rong with Qmaster. any help would be appreciated

You see a dash in the use counts column if Flash hasn't checked the number. To remedy this, use the "Update Use Counts Now" option in the panel menu.
If you want to tidy things up, and get rid of anything not used, there is an option in the panel menu to "Select Unused Items" which will select all items that have a Use Count of 0. From there it is a simple measure of deleting them. Be careful with this, though. This will select items that are not on the stage, or used in a symbol that is on the stage. But, if you have items that are added with code at runtime, this will still select those. So, careful not to accidentally delete an object that you are manipulating with code. This will not typically select an image that you are using in a symbol.

Showing tranformation controls, Adobe Photoshop CS2, Mac Tiger

The 'show transformation controls' are checked but the controls do not display. Going to Edit - transform - ...... they will display, but then disappear again and do not show on re selecting with the move tool.
This has only just started to happen on the Mac and does not correspond to any upgrades or new software and has been working fine since the installation of CS2 quite some time ago.

(Hold down the Shift+Option+Command keys AS you launch Photoshop. You'll get a little dialog to delete your settings.)

Adding audio controls to Flash CS4

I'm a Flash newbie, and I have version CS4.
My first presentation is online at http://worldwar2database.com/images/nymas_6-17-11.swf
To make it, I attached the audio clip to the frame, and used Actionscript 2 to set the frame to stop the audio and manually advance to the next frame. Is there an easy way to show a progressive bar showing the time remaining for the audio playback, and have rewind, stop, start/pause and fast forward?

the easiest way to control sound in flash is to use the flash sound class to create your sound. you can then use the methods and properties of the sound class to make your controls.

Folder of Adobe Flash CS4 under Applications doesn't show the Flash logo

I migrated to my new Mac from an old Mac in which I had previously installed Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium which includes Adobe Flash CS4 Professional. After I did that, all the files for the Adobe softwares were in blue and wouldn't work so I reinstalled the DVDs again. All my folders show the logos that correspond to the softwares located in each folder except for the Adobe Flash CS4 Professional which is still in blue. When I click on it to open the software, it works, but it shows this message:
Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash. Click OK
It works, but it bugs me that all the other softwares show the logos except for Flash. I tried to run the DVD #1 again, but when it shows all the softwares that you can click on to install, it doesn't show Flash.
Does anyone know how to fix that problem?

Flash CS4 Help File Offline What Happened to Tag Defintions Showing UP?????

Ok I know I can set the help system to browse offline however
this doesn't work correctly for any less then ActionScript 3. When
you highlighted a word in the past such as "null" it use to pull up
the word and the info in all the books. Now all I see is a web
browser that doesn't do this for me. I mean who sits there at
adobe's end and thinks up of ways to slow someone down like this??
How can you remove the core help quick linking from the program.
Number 1 not everyone is on AS3 and some of us still have to update
AS2 code.
Bigspace ships has an air application that installed AS3 flex
reference but again useless unless you are on AS3. Has anyone found
another way to get this old school functionality to work on
CS4???

the Flash docs.
Regarding this comment and the many others in other threads
that have added important details about the issues with the help
workflow, and in particular the ActionScript help workflow: We hear
your pain and we are working to implement solutions to these
issues.
I understand that this new help workflow is more painful than
in CS3 when you had the Help right in its own panel in the product.
Here’s some background:
The implementation of Help within the Flash Help panel prior
to CS4 required that *all* the Help files be installed on the local
drive with the product, resulting in some issues that we tried to
address in CS4. Including Help on the installation disc caused
issues including:
- Required that Help be completed much earlier for
localization and end-game testing.
- Resulted in static Help files that had been completed early
in the development cycle, sometimes not accounting for last minute
UI or other changes.
- A long install process.
- Crowded the installation disc.
These aren't meant to be full explanations of why we made the
changes, but just some background as to some of the things we were
thinking about. Clearly the decisions we came to weren't the right
ones for many users. We are intent on making things better.
Moving Help online makes it possible to update Help on an
ongoing basis, allows users to comment on and embellish the Help,
and allows us to add links from the help out to new articles,
tutorials, videos, and code samples on adobe.com and throughout the
Flash web community. One of you rightly pointed out that the Adobe
Updater could have been used for some of this, but I believe that
the updater would have required much more rigorous certification by
us of any update packages and the update/install process for each.
We actually are updating the online help files very frequently, so
this process would have been a major barrier to these updates.
We’ve had a struggle about how to deliver the Flash
Help for a long time, as we have a lot of users who have been quite
vocal about not liking the Help panel consuming space within the
Flash window as well as users who really want it there so they
don’t have to leave the IDE.
Having said all that, I still totally understand what
you’re saying about losing your code, glance, code, glance,
code workflow. As you probably know, we’ve been getting a lot
of feedback about this, along with other issues that online Help
has caused. We are actively looking at ways of solving these, but
the Help-in-a-browser issue a difficult problem, as this aspect of
the Help implementation is baked fairly deep into the CS4 product.
Since CS4 shipped, we have implemented solutions to some of the
issues with Help raised by users, such as allowing you to select
the default destination of F1 (though Flash CS4 always went to the
actual Help system rather than the Flash Help and Support page,
which is what these users wanted in other products). I just
don’t know if there will be a solution in the CS4 time frame
for viewing Help within Flash itself. As noted in this thread,
there are a few independent developers working on non-browser help
viewers, such as Jamie Kosoy, Technical Director at Big Spaceship,
whose AIR application for the CS4 Language Reference docs is
available at

We knew that people use the AS3 Language Reference a lot, so
we did install a local, abridged version of that with the product.
You only see it when not connected to the internet or if you
disable online connections as described earlier in this thread, and
it still opens in a web browser and still has the same navigation
interface as the online version. You can also download a local copy
of the AS Reference, which does get updated periodically and can be
viewed locally regardless of the state of your internet connection,
but it also is all html and opens in a web browser. As previously
noted, the download is available here:

I know this thread started off with AS2 concerns, and we hear
those too.
In some of the other threads out there about the Help, people
have raised issues about the contents navigation in the CS4 version
of the ASLR as well. We are listening to all these issues and
actively working on solutions that will address these questions.
We’d really like to give you better control over whether you
see online or local content, whether you see it inside the IDE or
in a separate application, etc.
I know that you are all really frustrated at some of these
help changes, and so I want to say how much we appreciate your
feedback. I’m sorry that my reply doesn’t give you the
magic bullet that you are understandably hoping for.

Flash CS4- Movie clips suddenly invisible on stage? (Same file OK on other comps/CS5)

Flash CS4 had been working regularly on my Macbook Pro (Intel - Tiger) for a while, and then suddenly, I opened a file and all the movie clips went from being visible "stills" to invisible and represented only by an "o". I have tried settings, preferences, even uninstall/reinstall, but somehow my settings or something got messed up and I can't view movie clips on the stage.
I have tried a variety of different .fla files and none allow movie clips to be visible on the stage.The files were created in CS4.
This is true for movie clips that have 1 frame to many frames.
When I Publish or Test Movie, the clip is visible and normal, but it is impossible to edit the file without being able to see the movie clips.
I know that the issue is with my installation of Flash/settings being messed up, not with the file(s) because when opened on other computers (CS4 and CS5), movie clips are visible on the stage, as they should be.
Example below: In Flash CS4, the stage just has "o"s where I used to be able to see my movie clip, but in the Test Movie, everything is there. To be clear, I could see the movie clips in this exact file, and then the next time I opened it I could no longer see them.
I am hoping there is an obvious solution that I have overlooked. Help is appreciated in designer-friendly (non-developer) terms.

Can you please try a few things for me? This will help us narrow down the issue.
Test 1: Switch from ActionScript 3.0 to ActionScript 2.0.
1. Open up the file where you see the "o" instead of your movieclips.
2. Go to File > Publish Settings.
3. Switch player target to ActionScript 2.0.
** Did your movieclips reappear or is it still showing "o"?
Test 2: Delete user configuration folder and recreate preferences files.
1. Quit Flash if it is running.
2. Delete the following 6 files:
Volume/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/FlashCS4
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Flash CS4 Preferences
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Flash 10 MRU
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.flsh-10.0.plist
/User/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS4/
/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/FlashAuthor.cfg
3. Relaunch Flash and these files will be recreated.

Hi,
Actually there exists DateField and DateChooser components in Component panel under User Interface tag. The point is they are of AS2 components so you should have AS2 selected in your publishing settings dialog for your current project to view these components in the panel. And there is no AS3 version of the component available by default. But if you are looking for an AS3 version of DateChooser component then you can download one from here http://www.flashscript.biz/components/flash9datechooser/datechooser.html

Flash CS4 - Images in gallery will not show- TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot co

So for my A2 studies I have to make an interactive product using flash. Long story short, I needed to make a flash gallery. I am using the "Zen Gallery Flash Component" and this is my code;

The user manual does not specify any more coding is needed (I read all the relevant parts and couldn't find anything). The problem is that my images do not show but when exporting the flash product, the gallery is fully functionon - it seems that it cannot locate my images.
In addition to this, I get multiple Output Errors;
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::IOErrorEvent@2d09a709 to Error. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure, the gallery just appeares to be an SWF.
This is all that came up when I clicked it (I had a look at the parameters and they don't seem to help in the addition of pictures).
There appears to be no forum for this flash component :L

*Flash CS4* I need help...

OK, so...I tried to download a trial of Flash CS4 on my parent's laptop. I got as far as saving the AkamaiDownloadManagerInstaller to the computer's desktop, but when I click on the link (or whatever) it says "a program needs your permission to continue." I clicked "Continue," and it shows a loading bar for just a split second, but then goes away. Uh...I don't know much about computers, so please try to use *small words* when telling me what to do. My parents have a Toshiba Windows 7 (I think) Laptop.

i recently downloaded trails of flash cs4 and web premium package cs4 (took a day to download at high speed starbuck's internet). couldnt get the setup.exe to work or the uninstaller to work. surfing tech support over next couple weeks to try various agents was useless and expensive until i finally reached someone with useful info. all the agents had foriegn accents and read from scripts and web support pages until yesterday, when i reached a guy who told me two things i'll report to various forums addressing this same issue:
1. download windows uninstaller program from their website (google: windows ininstaller). this program is different from the one that doesnt work in the programs and features area of control panel when you try to uninstall adobe products from there.
2. windows explorer 8, the newest version, DOES NOT download adobe softare properly and leaves things out, causing all sorts of issues including the setup.exe program not working. download firefox browser from mozella (google: firefox) and use it for all adobe downloads. apparently the old windows explorer 7 will work, but if you already have explorer 8 installed its easiest to just use firefox.
i'm spending the next couple days downloading the 4.14 G web premium trail with firefox and will report if this works.
