Showing rule when writing an email

When I am writing an email, I don't know how to make appear (or hide) the rule that it should show at the beginnig of the text, so I could position the text accordingly (tabulations ans so on).
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Which version of Outlook are you using?
Do you mean you want to show the Ruler when you writing an email?
In Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010, you can use the horizontal ruler across the top of the Outlook message body in Outlook to align text, graphics, tables, and other elements.
In Outlook 2013, you can enable it again by adding the “Ruler” command to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) or the Ribbon. See:

  • When writing an email or word doc, If i press ' key on my keyboard it returns down a line

    Every-time i use the Apostrophe key ' when writing an email on Mac mail the curser automatically drops down a line, like I've hit the enter key.
    Please help me fix.

    Try a different keyboard.   At least on the QWERTY USA keyboards, the two keys are side by side.  If anything gets stuck between those keys, it can make it take both keys as a command.    Alternatively if you aren't careful where you type, you may hit enter when you've not meant to.  Pulling the keys off the keyboard is rarely recommended as you can damage the key mechanism.   There are keyboard vacuums that can help if the machine is turned off.  I would not use them when the machine is turned on, as static electricity could easily damage the mechanism when it is on.

  • Why does my iPad hang when writing an email?  When I'm done with the email, I can't send it out and have to re-boot the iPad.

    Why does my iPad hang when writing an email?  When I'm done with the email, I can't send it out and have to re-boot the iPad. This happens if the time to compose email exceeds 10 to 15 minutes.

    Shut down all programs that are running in the background.
    1. Double-click the Home button to see Apps in background
    2. Hold the Apps down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close program
    4. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo
    Suggest you perform Step 1 to 3 at the end of every day.

  • In Outlook for Mac, when writing an email, underscores make italics.

    When writing an email, when I underscore on either side of two w's, the underscores disappear and the w's are italicized.  Frustrating, because my new business email has two underscores on either side of two w's, so I can't enter my address in the body of the email.  Any suggestions?

    You can turn it off under Outlook's preferences. Click on AutoCorrect then AutoFormat. Uncheck the box that says "Bold" and _italic_ with real formatting"

    Hi. How do I attach more than one document to an email originating from my iPad, especially if the documents come from different apps? When starting an email there's no option for attachments, unless you send the document from inside an app like iBook and then you can only send one at a time.

  • Mail crashes unexpectedly when writing new email

    I have a 16gb 3g latest os and uptodate iTunes etc.
    I have three accounts on my phone all imap vie three separate providers.
    At an annoying regularity, whilst I am typing (tapping?) an email, Mail will just close/crash and my words will be gone forever. It seems only to occure after a few paragraphs of typing. Very short emails don't seem to be affected. I'm pretty certain it's nothing to do with the bounced email issue I have found discussed around here. I have bounced emails I am aware of on my phone.
    I get around this issue by constantly saving my typing as a draft and then re-opening the email to continue. But that's when I remember to do it!
    The issue seems to occure no matter what account I am writting from. It does not seem to be related to a precise length of writing. Sometimes I note the response of the keyboard slows down before the crash. I will often see the big letter showing where I tapped just stuck in place before Mail shuts down.
    I do wonder if the seemingly random nature is connected to my phone doing some sort of background thing like a network activity of somesort for eg. I'm always on home wifi for my longer emailing.
    I've tried switching all accounts to manual checking (as opposed to push/fetch). No change.
    Anyone else get these random wipe outs? Suggestions?
    There is nothing worse than loosing ten minutes of fiddly iPhone email writing!

    Tried anything...
    As I said in my original post I have tried fiddling with my account settings such as push, fetch and manual. Its not something one likes to experiment with as it usually results in lost email "work"!
    I've reset my phone numerous times.
    This issue has been dogging me for a long time now (months)
    On the whole my phone is working fine. I get the occasional web browser glitch, but nothing I would consider "wrong".
    I appreciate that a restore to back-up or "as new" is a common cure-all for iphone ills. I just thought I'd post to see if anyone has had similar experience to me with Mail and what worked for them. Perhaps they worked out exactly what triggers these seemingly random crashes for eg, so that they can be avoided.
    Or perhaps its just me with this issue - if so, I suspect a full phone reset/restore may be in order.

  • How do I set up an alias email with Mac Mail, so that my alias shows up when I send email from my Mac Mail account?

    I am have an email forwarding service, not an email account, which I want to set up as an alias for Mac Mail so that my email appears in the "from" address when I send messages from Mac Mail. I'm having trouble figuring out what I need to do to set up this configuration. Thanks so much for your help!

    There are a couple of ways of doing this. The easiest is probably to just add the secondary address in the Mail.app -> Preferences -> Accounts field.
    The specifics of which vary a little based on the OS/Mail.app version you're running, but in Yosemite:
    Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts
    Select your iCloud account and change the 'Alias' popup menu from your iCloud address to 'custom'.
    Doing this enables the 'Email Address' field. In this field you can enter the email address you want to appear in your From header.
    If you want to use multiple addresses (e.g. your iCloud address and your other alias), you can enter a comma-separated list of addresses - e.g. '[email protected], [email protected]' and then you'll have a pop-up menu on each new message where you can choose the address to use for each outgoing message. You can also set the default address in Preferences -> Composing -> Send new messages from:

  • I used to have the mailboxes window on my screen (left side) when writing an email. I want it back, but CANNOT figure how to get it back. Please help. Thanks

    Where are the mailboxes???
    The opening window has the list of incoming emails. The left column of the page has the Mailbox window with folders. Perfect.
    When I click Write - or Reply - or Forward, the window comes up with the write window... and my total address book - but NOT the Mailboxes. It was would come up until last week. And now I can't figure out how to add the mailboxes folder to the write/reply/forward screen.
    And from that screen, I cannot get back to the main screen to reference another email. Real hassle. Am sure there is an easy answer. Would live to hear it.

    The standard Thunderbird Write window is just that, a composition window. If you turn the Contact Sidebar on by pressing F9 then you can see your address book contacts down the left margin.
    If you had anything different it must have been from an add on that you installed. There is no guessing what you did there.

  • When writing an email the letters are so small that I can hardly read them. If I increase the size then the outgoing email letters are very large.

    letters are very large. I have tried changing the font but it doesn't help. This is very annoying. How can I remedy this?

    I use these settings, so try them:
    Tools > Options > Display > Formatting tab
    or
    Menu icon > Options > Options > Display > Formatting tab
    * eg: Default font: Arial
    * size 14
    Note: this sets the default font to be used in both display of messages and the font to use as default in composing messages.
    Under Plain text Messages
    * select: Style : Regular Size: Regular and colour Black
    * Click on 'Advanced' button
    * make sure all sizes - 14
    * select; 'allow messages to use other fonts'
    * Select; 'Use fixed width fonts for plain text messages'
    * click on OK
    Note: This will use the default eg: Arial to be used, but allows the display of messages to use other fonts if the sender specified them.
    then at top click on 'Composition' > General tab
    note: This sets the default composing text colour and background colour.
    under HTML
    * Font: Variable width
    * Size : Medium
    * Select a text colour for writing emails eg: Blue
    * Select background colur eg: white
    click on OK to save and close Options.

  • How to delete an auto show contact  when addressing an email

    Typing the first letter of email address brings up a contact list option. I would like to delete one of the options that is not in my contacts list.
    Suggestions to [email protected]

    Message recipients are stored in a list of previous recipients. When manually entering an address in the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: fields, the autofill feature pulls from the iPhone's address book, and from the list of previous recipients. The list of previous recipients is included with your iPhone's backup. If you restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, the list of previous recipients included with your iPhone's backup is restored with the rest of the data on your iPhone that is included with the backup. You must restore your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup if you want to purge your existing list of previous recipients.
    With the Mail.app on a Mac, you can access the list of previous recipients. You can add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered, or remove a previous recipient from the list. Apple has not included access to the list of previous recipients with the iPhone's mail client at the present time, which I expect Apple to do at some point as is included with the Mail.app on a Mac.

  • Immediately after updating to Firefox 4, my keyboard response became terribly slow when writing an email in gmail. What should i do to fix this?

    When I type a few sentences, I look up and only half of what I have typed appears on the screen. The rest of it appears shortly. The display just has a problem keeping up with my typing. This never happened before. There was no problem before I updated to Firefox 4.0. I restarted Firefox and tried again and there was the same problem. Actually, the display in this text box is annoyingly slow too, but, it is nothing like what it is when composing google/gmail emails. On the other hand, I never had anything like either problem before. Moving the slowly responding cursor is especially annoying.

  • How do you set the left hand margin when writing emails. Some characters disappear off of the left side of the page because the margin is so close to the edge

    When writing emails the left hand margin is so close to the edge of the page that some characters disappear from view on the left hand of the page. How can I set the left hand margin to not be so close to the left edge of the page?

    Oy. You beat your head for hours and finally concede to asking for help, only to solve it two minutes later. Here's the answer.
    In the inspector, on the Layout tab, there's a checkbox that reads, "Show Thumbnail Track".
    UNCHECK that box and the gutter goes away.
