Showing short , medium and long texts together

Hi,
I have 0material and have navigational attribute -subdivision.
I need subdivision to be seen in the report as following
<b>KEY | TEXT SHORT | TEXT LONG</b>
is there a way to show those together in Reporting?
I know i can show KEY- SHORT TEXT or KEY-LONG TEXT but they are not useful for me.

Hi Mete,
you need to add the subdivision as infoprovider. Create a infosource just for subdivision and short and long text. Assign the text datasource to that infosource. Add 0txtsh and 0txtlg as attributes to the subdivision. Create a update rule from your new infosource to subdivision and update the subdivision and txtsh and txslg. But here you need to concentrate on just one language. Additonally post that new infosource to the texts as well providing the language key as well.

Display short, medium, and long text in a query

Hi all, we have a requirement to display the short, medium, and long text of an info-object in our queries. Currently, it seems that you can only select one text lenght at a time but not all three of them together. Aside from creating texts as attributes, is there a way to display all of the texts of an info-object?
For example, we have internal orders with 3 texts. When we run the query, we need to see the order number, then the short text, medium text, and long text. Is this possible?

yeah you are right, we can get all the texts as attributes. Other than that you can only get any one of them.

Short, medium and long descriptions in BPC

Hi all,
I must have 3 types of descriptions in BPC members, short, medium and long.
The only way to achieve this is using properties for two of them, or is there any other option?

any how, If you are taking about master data loading from BW, then we have an option to choose description whether it is short, medium, long..
while running the DM package in the set selection go to language tab. for reference see the below image...

Short, medium and long term planning in SNP

Hi,
can somebody explain me what Short, medium and long term planning mean in SNP?
Lets, say I have this scenario:
If I have a product with SNP horizon of 35 days, which means that the product is planned in SNP only after 35 days from today. Only PPDs deals with orders in these 35 days.
I have a 3 planning books
short term with 30 days from today
medium term with 7 months from today and
long term with 2 years from today.
When I say short, medium and long term planning in SNP what exactly happens in these ?? What do users usually do in these books?

Nothing much from a technical stand point.
What do users usually do in these books?
Check the Time Bucket Profile for the different books. The short Term Book will be in days, the mid term in weeks and the long term in months/quarters etc. The different books allows users to see the keyfigures in different time-based aggregate level.
But if Heuristic is executed then behaviour will be different. Remember SNP Location Heuristic run uses the bucket of the data view to compute the Net Requirement and then try creating Receipts in each bucket within the time horizon of the data view using suitable master data. So if you run Location Heuristic in the short Term (daily) view then you will have many receipts one per day most likely. If you run in mid-term Weekly view then there are less number of receipts one receipt per week till 7 months. likewise for the long term view.
SNP horizon is 35 days and the short term book is 30 days long, in which SNP does nothing. What's the use of this book?
Maybe just to see the data. Location Heuristic run will not generate any new receipt.

How to get the medium and long text for PRODUCT HIERARCHY?

hi experts,
i am using data source called 0prod_hier_text. in ECC there is description for medium and long.
but in BW it is mapped to 0TXTSH which is short text, and in the transformations medium text is mapped to short text of BW (0TXTSH) which is having length only 20.
IF it exceeds more than 20 it is now showing.
so how to get add 0TXTMD which is medium text so that i can see the description for MEDIUM.
i did try to add to 0PROD_HIER but i cannot add.
i need to show medium text description in the Report.
plz provide me the input.

Check in RSD1 screen which text you have chossen .....for object 0product
try to check for medium & long text(if not checked) ..
so that you can add mdtxt & long txt in transformations........

I think you can enter short description & long text seprately for a WBS while creating entire struture of project in PS only. I don't think other than PS you will be able to enter short & long text for individual WBS.

Hi ,
In the transaction related to PO select the path goto->header texts and then details of the texts like ID,objectname,language,name.Pass all theses details to 'READ_TEXT ' FM. Then you will get text lines described for a perticular Po ,similarly for item also.

In sap 4.6c, I know how to use tcode se63 to translate short and long text. However, in ecc6,when i use se63 to translate abap data element short texts, i cannot save it .A error message appare: Could not save target text Message no. SKTY000.

Creation of short text and long text?

We create short text by using oe_fnd_attachments_pub.create_short_text_document and oe_fnd_attachments_pub.add_attachment API and to create long text we use fnd_documents_pkg.insert_row .
Why is it that we have different approaches for creation of short text and long text?
I know that oe_fnd_attachments_pub.add_attachment is used to attach a short text to some entity,but then why we dont do the same for long text?
Please lemme knw urgently ...

I looked into the document and i got to know few things as to how short and long text are created, but can u tell when the records are inserted into fnd_attached_documents, because i can see that records are inserted into fnd_attached_short_text and fnd_attached_long_text, fnd_documents but i dont see any insertion into fnd_attached_documents, can u lemme knw how and when it is done?

Dear Experts,
I have many BW objects (like Infocubes, Infoobject catalogues, Infoobjects) for which no short and long texts are maintained in one language. Now, all these are in use in the production system. I have to edit the short and long texts for all of these objects. My intention on how to do it is to,
1) Logon to the Development system
2) Edit short texts manually for all of the objects.
3) Collect the changed objects in Transport organiser and transport to the productive system.
My only question is does we need to do any thing in the production system after transporting these objects for them to get reflected.
Any help and other thoughts are greatly appreciated...

Difference betwen short text and long text

what is the difference between short text, long text and variant.

Hi,
Short text is the short description you give for an object or field simlarly long text is the long description for a object or field.
Short text cannot have lenght more than 20 and long text more than 60.
Variant means for example if you give certain values as an input in one of your transaction for testing and you want the same values to be used every time you test in that particular screen, then instead of inputting the values again n again you call the variant.

Where is the short text vs. long text used in the system for GL account descriptions? There is not enough room right now in the short text field for our account descriptions so we are concerned what the implications of using the same names across multiple accounts for the short description but putting all the correct detail in the long text field.

Normally these short text are visible when you go with F4 (drop down list), you will see the short text. As stated earlier, I would not recommend any changes to standard screens. Many of the SAP implementation that I have seen gone with the standard and used the length provided by SAP.
Business need to use more logic when they are defining short and long texts. If you are creating cost elements, note that the same short and long text will be copied to COST ELEMENTS.

Hi,
You should be able to read the Order short text directly from table AUFK. The Order long text or task list long text can be read by using FM "Read_text". Use Goto> Header on every long text screen to identify the parameters that need to be passed hen using this FM.

Mass upload of characteristics and long text for Object Links in DIR

I want to upload characteristics and long text of Linked Objects in Documents: i wanted to use BAPI_OBJCL_CHANGE and family but, it is a class that is on a different level than the DIR as it does not belong to the DIR directly, but to objects that are linked TO the dir, via the tab linked object.
any idea on how I can do that?
LSMW and recordings do not work (or at least I did not find a way to make them work);
have you encountered such a situation?

Why have byteValue in Short, Integer and Long?

What good is the method byteValue() in Short, Integer and Long? It really only makes sense in Byte. This only helps if you are only interested in downcasting your number to a byte. It seems to me Number should also implement toByteArray() or something since all of the subclasses could at least return an array with one element.
Maybe we should just have a method toChar() with no args in String and do away with toCharArray()!?
Please help me out if I am missing something here.

yeah, a toByteArray() method would be pretty damn useful!
a little query regarding byteValue() it says it may involve rounding or truncation, but in none of the subclasses does it specify which of these will occur ;/
would a short with the value 00000000 11111111
be returned as 01111111(rounded) or 11111111(truncated)?
