Showing the dock in fullscreen apps.

This is driving me crazy and it appears to just show up randomly after i hover the mouse over it. Anyone else having problems with making the dock appear in full screen?

I had the same problem and this thread helped me. It's not perfect but I hope it helps! It works better on trackpads than it does on mice.

  • Show the dock more quickly

how can i make the dock to reappear more rapidly when i activate "automatically hide and show the dock"? any apps?

You can hold cmd-option D to toggle it show/hide. That's about the only trick I know of.

  • Automatically hide & show the Dock not working

The Dock keeps getting stuck. When I turn the computer on it works fine. But then after a while, the Dock doesn't automatically show when the cursor is at the foot of the screen. If I click at the foot of the screen the Dock appears.
Also, the magnification isn't working. It magnifies the app closest to where I click at the foot of the screen, but the Dock is then 'frozen' and moving the cursor left & right doesn't have any magnifying effect.
I tried turning off Automatically hide & show the Dock and get no magnification whatsoever.
I don't get any of these problems on my Intel'd MacBookPro - just my 2GHz Dual 3GB RAM Power Mac.

I have exactly the same problem on a G5 and a 20' dualcore, both running Leopard...and also when you drop down the menus from the finder bar the selection doesn't turn blue when you run the cursor over them...but this problem hasn't affected my G4 ibook yet...
I don't think Leopard is as stable yet as we would like it to be but i'm sure these little niggles will be sorted out in due time, Tiger was such a good stable OS and Leopard has a lot to live up too..!
It would be nice to get these things sorted sooner rather than later....!

  • Screen sharing - difficult to show the dock

I've had this problem in Mavericks and now again in Yosemite. When screen sharing with another computer whose dock "Automatically" hides and shows the dock, I have a very difficult time positioning the cursor so that a hidden dock will reveal itself. Sometimes an initial waking of the dock works normally but subsequent tries to bring up a hidden dock will take multiple tries, putting the cursor close to the bottom edge of the shared screen, moving the cursor along the bottom edge, etc. It's almost like you have to tickle the area where the dock will appear to get its attention. Sometimes I'll spend minutes trying to get the dock to appear. This happens on a local network so it's not like there is a network delay problem.
    What's going on here?

I have this too. Very irritating. Especially when you are in full screen screen sharing, because when you hover the cursor at the bottom of the screen, the host dock pops up and obscures the dock in the screen sharing window.
Here is a workaround: Press cmd-option-d (d for DOCK).
This will show or hide the dock.
And because you are in screensharing, all shortcuts will be sent to the target system and not to your local machine.

  • "Dock" showing in the dock, and other apps that should normally be hidden

Hi Folks - I used Dockless just to try a few things and it didn't work so well.  I unistalled it and now I'm having issues with certain running "subapps" that are normally hidden showing up in the Dock and I can't remove them.  Screen shot says it all.  But, they are:
    -loginwindow
    -Dock
    -SystemUIServer
    -Airport Base Station Agent
    -Folder Action Dispatcher
    -XMenu
-Caffeine (normally only shows in the toolbar)
I have tried many of the resources I've found online, such as removing com.apple.dock.plist and .dlb which did reset the Dock to default, but these apps were still showing. I have tried to remove them manually by dragging them to the desktop, trash, etc, no luck.   I haven't heard back from Dockless yet on this.
    Any thing else?

    Still no fix.  Any ideas?

  • Few problems with the dock. Creating App stack, and removing apps from dock

OK.. I am running leopard 10.5.4, and decided I wanted to use the app folder as a stack. I made my new folder with the alias' inside. However, when I went to move it into the dock, 9on the right side of the sizing bar), the other stacks failed to shift out of the way, so I couldn't add it in.
Another problem is that I can't see to remove apps from the dock. I have admin rights, and they are not active, hence the desire to get rid.
    Anyone have an idea??

Erm... Doh! had dock 'locked' in Onyx...

  • Is it possible to show the dock bar only in mission control mode?

    Hi.
I dont wont to have the dock in my workspace. Can I move the dock to mission control an launch apps from there?

You could however maybe trick the Dock by setting the delay rate to some high number, say  one hour.
    In terminal copy and paste:
    defaults write com.apple.Dock autohide-delay -float 3600.00 && killall Dock
To restore the default behavior, enter:
    defaults delete com.apple.Dock autohide-delay && killall Dock

If the number of updates appeared when you were signed in - and on the same account ID, but now, when you check again you are not signed in, there will be no updates available.

  • Cloud isn't showing the same number of apps on different computers

I have two computers. A Windows 7 64-bit desktop and Windows XP 32-bit laptop. After logging into Adobe Creative on my desktop and laptop I see different numbers of apps. On my desktop I have access to a wide assortment of apps (screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/IoFsVY7.png ). On my laptop I have access to a fewer number of apps (screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/5CAegdD.png ). The app I am trying to install on my Laptop is Creative Cloud Connection. While this app is available on my desktop, it is not appearing on my laptop. I am using the same Creative Cloud account on both computers. Can someone help me with this?

The system requirements for the various apps in the Cloud vary and the apps available for download depend on your hardware and operating system.
Well-spec'd 64 bit systems (Windows and Mac) will run all apps. Other configurations vary by app.
Some Cloud apps (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Encore and SpeedGrade) are 64 bit only. They will not install or run on 32 bit computers so they will not appear on a 32 bit system as available for download.

Other apps such as Lightroom and Cloud Connection will not install or run on Windows XP so they will not appear as available for download.

  • On restart why do all app icons in the dock, except Apple apps, disappear? OS X (10.8.5)

Have tried several suggestions found in the support community, some suggesting to delete a preferences file which I cannot find. I have iMacs at work and at home., but I am having this problem only on one of the Macs.

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, move the following items to the Trash, if they exist:
    Application Support/Dock
    Caches/com.apple.dock
and move the following items to the Desktop:
    Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.dock.*.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.dock.db
    Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Here “*” stands for a long string of letters and numbers.
Next, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    open $TMPDIR../C
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. A folder should open. Inside it there may be a file named "com.apple.dock.iconcache". If there is, drag it to the Trash.
Log out, log back in, and test. If you still have the issue, put the items on the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.

  • My laptop is only showing the homescreen with no apps and just the spinning wheel. What's wrong?

A little history of the problem...My MacBook pro had been very slow lately, however I kept putting off getting it looked at for several reasons. Anyways, today I was laying in bed on and off using my laptop because I'm sick and trying to get some work done. When I went to pick my laptop up it was frozen with the spinning wheel, so I restarted it.  After that everything uploaded fine, but when I went to click on Safari it never loaded and again just the spinning wheel. So restart again because it was unresponsive to anything else, I then pressed whatever combination to get me to recovery mode (did I preface this with I know nothing about computer systems and such, well yeah I dont). I tried the disk utility option and I also reinstalled OS X. After 2 hours it's done downloading and it let me login (I have a password on it) but now the home screen is up with no apps and the wheel is still spinning. Have I done something irreparable? Will that wheel ever stop spinning?? What do I do? Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Thank you, I was able to get it into Safe Mode and I just used it like that yesterday to backup a lot of my files. I just shut it down and restarted it and it's still freezing up. I clicked on systems preferences and after several minutes it finally opened but the wheel is now just spinning and it won't stop.

  • If i upgrade to lion does everything stay the same? (the dock, file locations, apps ,etc.)

I want to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard but I want to make sure that all my applications and files all stay in the same place.
Are the applications still installed when I upgrade to Lion?
Would ALL my files still be in the same place?
Would my dock be the same?
I don't want to have to organise all my files again. =S
    Thanks!

Yes. Back up your system first because no matter what computer it is, anything bad has at least a tiny chance of happening. When you install Lion, it should just be an upgrade to the system itself and it won't touch any of your applications.
Bear in mind though, Lion is still very new and some of your applications might not work well with it yet, if at all.

  • Is there any way to reverse the "swipe to switch between fullscreen apps" controls?

I feel like the "swipe left to go to the app to the left" is actually counter-intuitive, especially when they were thinking about a touchscreen when designing this OS. The scrolling, though most people aren't used to it on a computer, makes sense because you move the page in the direction as if you were moving a physical page. The switching between fullscreen apps is the opposite and isn't natural for me, especially since I have been using an iPhone and iPad for a couple years now. Is there any way of reversing this control? If not, I think they should do the same thing that they did with the "natural" scrolling and have a checkbox to give you the option of either way.

I didn't see anything in the trackpad preferences as far as direction of the swipe. If anyone else can find it, I would love to be able to reverse it.

  • Shortcut for showing and hiding the dock

Here is a quick question - is there a keyboard shortcut to quickly hide and show the Dock? This helps when using some applications that force the window beyond the reach of the Dock and place their OK and Cancel buttons beyond that region, forcing me to hide the Dock in System Preferences.

    Option-Command-D
Also see Mac OS X keyboard shortcuts.
You can also configure the Dock to autohide in Dock preferences.

  • Is there any way under iOS7 to show the full home screen without the 3D band at the bottom reducing picture size?

Is there any way under iOS7 to show the full home screen without the 3D band at the bottom reducing picture size? I want to see full pictures from my camera roll, not "special effects" from Apple..

By 3D band are you referring to the Dock area where apps like Safari and Mail live? If so there is no way to remove this.
