Showing vista applications on my mac

I am trying to help my elderly father (who is in another state) with his computer, but he is on a PC and I'm on a Mac. Does anyone know a way to run or view Vista and its programs on my Mac, so that I can see what my dad is seeing so that I can direct him as to what to do oh his screen?

If you have an Intel Mac:
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.

Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.
If you don't have an Intel Mac then you will have to find a PPC-based emulator such as IEmulator, WinTel, Virtual PC, etc. However, I cannot tell you if these emulators will run Vista since they came into existence before there was a Vista. You can look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

I bought a week ago a Mac Mini 2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running the Mac OS X 10.6.2 and I have troubles for install Windows Vista Ultimate
I can make the partition without problems
The proccess of installation seems be normal but when is making the last process called "Completing Installation" fails
Then is when show a warning with the follow content
"At least one component could not be configured, please restart the computer and reinstall windows"
Note, I have tested install Windows Vista Ultimate 32 and 64 bits but without luck, too I did a installation from zero, formatting, installing Snow Leopard, updating to 10.6.2 and after attempt install Windows without luck
The weird here is that I had installed Windows Vista on my old Mac Mini 1.5 Ghz Intel Core Solo with a upgrade to 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
Ideas?

No guarantees, but you could startup to your Vista DVD and try repairing startup. Just choose the options that move you closer and closer to Windows fix options, not toward installation.

What version of Bridge and Photoshop and what platform? Mac or Windows? I can point you to a downloadable installer.
If the cdrom was damaged, it may be the problem.
You would uninstall and use the CC/CS Cleaner to remove any remnants before reinstalling.

I would recommend closing any open applications in multitasking and restarting the device. If unfamiliar with multitasking, I have included a screenshot on how to process an application close. Test the results after processing these steps by attempting to access your previous purchases.

If the issue persists, I would verify which Apple ID was used to make the purchases you are unable to locate. If the application is located on your computer, you can either Right-Click and Get Info on the selected media for Windows or Control-Click and Get Info for Mac. The Apple ID that was used to purchase the media will be on the Summary tab. You can also verify what Apple ID it was purchased with by accessing your purchase history by following the steps below.

*** may have found a fix ? *** Thanks to your post re: GDI objects I checked task manager ( added column "GDI objects")and saw 700+ whereas working 6.18 was 160 ish Got thinking - what could possibly use that many GDI objects ( firefox only uses a few hundred and it's a platform ) Then it hit me - emoticons ! So in tools/ options/ IM&SMS/ IM Appearance unchecked "show emoticons"and also unchecked "show images and other media previews"restarted Skype and GDI objects now only 164 ( down from 729 )and all other windows are repainting fine and are usable again( my problem was RDP sessions that became unusable, as I work remotely ) To be sure, have rechecked the options and restarted skype and see 700+GDI objects ( goes up from 660 when place call to echo/sound test )and removed them again to get only 164have also rebooted a few times and gone through the whole processof unchecking emoticons, restart, rechecking emoticons, restart to make sure itsnot a fluke. pretty sure this has fixed it for me ( so I now have a working 7.6.0.105 on XP SP3 ),and as your problem "sounds" the same I hope it also works for you. CUSTOM ICC PROFILES DO NOT SHOW UP IN PSCS 6 MAC OS 10.8.4 BUT ARE OK IN CS5

The only icc profiles that show up in CS 6 Mac OS 10.8.4 are the ones that are installed from the printer driver ( Epson 9900 ) Any other single or custom profiles do not show up when placed Library/Colorsync/Profiles
All profiles show up in CS 5, There has been a lot of discussion of this on many forums with no solution. I have also tried installing the profiles in the contents folder of the Epson printer in the main library folder with no luck. Please advise

Mac OS 10.8.4 is still in beta. You need to be reporting this to Apple.
What happens if you move these profiles to the Adobe/Profiles folder, or the users/Library/Colorsync/Profiles folder?
There has been a lot of discussion of this on many forums with no solution.
What forums? A google search turns up nothing but this thread.
I have not seen this problem with the released versions of 10.8.

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

So if I understand you properly, I need to create EOs for all my list of values (which are based on views of Oracle apps tables) and base my VO on those EOs. And then I setup associations between these EOs and the Item EO. Then I include the these EOs in my Items VO and add the description attributes to my list of attributes. I had done this for the list of users, but for the views of Oracle I had just created read only VO. Sounds like that won't work if I want to display the description. I know what to do - I guess I was hoping there was a way to use the read only VO.

Windows Vista doesn't recognize Mac Pro RAM

I have installed Windows Vista Business on my Mac Pro using Boot Camp, and have found some anomalies that seem strange. It is basically working well (for Windows....).
1. I installed this on a 500Gb HD on my Mac Pro. This machine is a fully configured box doing video editing, with extensive AV files. It has all four drive bays filled, 3 of them with 1Tb drives, the thrid with a single 500Gb drive. I was a bit surprised to find that Boot Camp won't allow partitioning of its OSX installed boot HD beyond a Mac Partition and the Boot Camp paritition, or a secondary entire HD dedicated to Windows. This is not very practical with these large drives, since even though HD storage is fairly cheap, I don't want to give Microsoft more than maybe 100gb on a drive. All of the other HDs are partitioned for multiple parititions, which I need to preserve. The OSX boot drive has 3 OSX partitions already installed. Any ideas on how to do this better? Yes, I know I can use Parallels or VMWare, and do, but find that native Boot Camp Windows is better.
2. Windows Vista is running on a dedicated HD in Boot Camp on this machine (to all appearances running fine), but doesn't recognize more than 2Gb of RAM on my machine which is configured with 10Gb of RAM which is recognized appropriately in OSX. What am I missing?
I would appreciate any help on a partitioning scheme that works to support multiple partitions on these large drives, and a reason that only 2Gb out of 10Gb of RAM is recognized by Windows Vista Business in Boot Camp.

I am running in Boot Camp, which runs in native mode without emulation. The advantage is that if you are going to run Windows, which is my goal, it doesn't have the overhead of OSX. Indeed, most Mac machines are among the fastest Windows machines available for equivalent hardware when running Windows in native mode. There are a few more arcane advantages to running natively, particularly in terms of connecting to external devices. There is no background RAM overhead when run natively.

Windows 8.1 64 bit machine, search charm shows two application shortcut

We have Windows 8.1 64 bit machine.
We installed a application and found working it properly.
If we click on Windows button and search application description
then, we noticed search charm shows two application short-cuts.
1. Right click on first short-cut pointing to multiple options like - Pin to start, taskbar, uninstall, file location path, etc and after click on any menu item it works successfully. Even file location shows proper 'program files' folder.
2. Right click on second short-cut does not give any option. But, after click on this short-cut application launches successfully.
Also, after uninstall of this application. We found the second short-cut still exist.
We searched through complete registry and did not found any reference of the same application. Even 'program files' folder got cleaned, too.
But, click on second icon in the search charm we got an error -
"Windows cannot find C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US\NameSpace_Classic_{940B1CC9-013F-468Ee-BBBF-4A975461F120}.settingcontent-ms"
Make sure you typed name correctly, and then try again."

The above file was present when application was installed and after uninstall above file got deleted.
But, the short-cut still exists.
Please let me know how we remove this second short-cut while installation. The same application installation does not show this kind of behaviour on other OS's.

USB syncing
Open iTunes.
Connect the iOS device to your computer using the included USB cable and click the device button in the upper right corner. (If you are viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper right corner. The device button will then be visible.) Some tabs may not appear if you do not have corresponding content in your library. For example if you do not have any podcasts in your library, the corresponding Podcasts tab will not appear.
You can configure the different content types in each tab. For example, movies under the Movies tab.
To sync, click Apply, in the lower-right corner of the screen.
