Shows only 929M of RAM usable.....

Have over 4G of RAM but showing only 929M usable.  Running win7-32 [so it should only show about 3.5G usable] on HP Envy dv7-7232CL. Origianlly came with win8. Any help????

Hi,
Looked into this more for you. Here is a Microsoft document that may have some information to help:The usable memory may be less than the installed memory on Windows 7-based computers
If you could, please provide a screen shot of the resource monitor on the memory tab.
Thanks.

  • Control Panel shows only 4GB of RAM but product specs say I should have 8GB

My HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250f desktop is supposed to have 8GB of RAM factory installed, but the control panel only shows 4GB. When I run diagnostics with the Support Assistant software it says everything is working fine but also shows only 4GB of RAM. I've had the computer for several months now and the warranty recently expired. In the past I noticed it said 4GB and thought I must have purchased a computer with only 4GB, but it always seemed odd to me. I looked up the specs online and it says the HPE-250f has 8GB, and it also says 8GB on the box it came in. I have not made any modifications to the computer, and have never opened the cabinet. I am hesitant to open the cabinet, but don't feel I should have to pay a lot of money to figure this out.

    Hi,
Shut down the PC.  Tap away at f10 as soon as you start the PC to enter the Bios Menu - on the first page, you should be able to see the ammount of physical ram installed.

My MacBook 13" Mid 2010 Core 2 duo shows only 1 GB RAM

What CT stated is that yes if what you see is accurate you have a bad RAM chip. Either Apple Support/Service has to Repair/Replace the RAM, or, You have to find a local shop (if you're out of waranty). Desoldering and soldering logic board components requires special tools, solder and lots & lots of practice.

Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 (64 bits) displays only 2GB of RAM in preferences/performance menu, while it should show 4GB and my Windows 7 Ultimate is 64 bits.
My RAM is a single 4GB card.
This also happens in Windows 8.1. Maybe the mouse lag is also caused by this.
How can PS show my entire RAM?

I'm not an expert, but this doc confirms, that your OP Windows7 Ultimate x64
supports 4MB, in fact up to 192 MB:

  • E430 - System shows only 2.5GB RAM, I have 4GB installed.

    Hello.
I have an E430 with Core i5 Ivy Bridge, 4GB RAM, onboard graphics. OS is Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. No components have been installed or replaced since purchase.
The problem is, system only shows I have 2.5GB RAM total. In BIOS it correctly shows 4096GB RAM installed.
People suggested it might be the graphics allocating the rest of the RAM (which makes sense in a way, since I read at some other places that max. RAM for the graphics is set around ~1.5GB). And they suggested I should look in the BIOS for a setting which would influence this. I found none.
I got some info about the graphics using a command, and it shows:
    Memory at f0000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
    Memory at e0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
That does not look like allocating 1.5GB RAM to me.
    Also there is this:
    Kernel driver in use: i915
    Is that the right driver?
Does anyone know whether it is really the GPU allocating way too much RAM? How could I stop it or make the currently-unused RAM available to the system again? Or is there another problem, not linked to GPU?
    Thanks.

Free ram isn't the on,y ram that's available to run programs http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342
BUT.....2gb is the bare minimum for running Lion, you need at least 4gb in reality. Your computer will run better with 4gb.

  • P67A-C45 hangs with Core i5-2300 and Win7 sees only 8 Gb RAM (of 16 total)

Hi guys, I have a problem.
    My config is:
    OS: Windows 7 Pro х64
    MoBo: Socket1155 MSI "P67A-C45"
    CPU: Intel "Core i5-2300"
    Ram 4 dimms * 4Gb DDR3 SDRAM Kingston "ValueRAM" KVR1333D3N9/4G (PC10600, 1333МГц, CL9)
Video: PCI-E 1024МБ Sapphire "Radeon HD 5670" 11168-05 (Radeon HD 5670, DDR5, DVI, HDMI, DP)
    Problem #1:
Windows shows only 8 Gb RAM in system properties. CPU-Z shows all 16 GB.
    Problem #2:
Computer hangs several times per day (no blue screen, everithing just becomes frozen).
After flashing BIOS to 1,7 both problem disappeared for 2 days, but after todays hang both problems have returned.
No overclocking, Turbo boost disabled, EIST disabled, RAM voltage 1,5V.
Any ideas? Maybe new BIOS version?..

I have Carsair 650W PSU, it works fine (worked in my previous computer).
Also 3 SATA HDD installed (Segate 1 Tb and 2*Seagate 1,5 Tb).
I've raisen DIMM voltage to 1,65 V and system doesn't freeze anymore.
But windows still sees 8 GB memory (of 16 installed).
I think this is BIOS bug....

  • 8.00 GB of installed RAM/MEMORY but only 3.99 GB "usable"

    Here is my system:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    CPU: Intel i5 750 @ 2.67Ghz
    Motherboard: MSI P55 GD65
    Ram: G.Skill 4x 2gb 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) dual channel memory (8gb total)
BIOS shows 8gb of installed RAM, Task Manager shows 8gb installed RAM, Resource Manager shows 8gb installed RAM. Right-clicking My Computer > Properties shows "Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.99 GB usable)"
With all the research and other forums posts I found, I have:
    - Tested all 4 ram sticks individually (before the G.Skill I had the same problem with 2 Kingston sticks)
    - Unchecked maximum memory in msconfig.exe > BOOT > ADVANCED
    - Updated BIOS to latest version (1.11 a.k.a 1.B0)
    - Loaded BIOS optimized defaults
    - Cleared CMOS and loaded optimized defaults again
    - Tested memory with Windows Memory Diagnostics tool with no errors
    - Removed CPU to check socket for bent pins...no bent pins...reseated CPU
    I have not:
Enabled "Memory Remapping" in BIOS because I do not have that option available in BIOS
I did read this post about G.Skill ram: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=178019.0 and checked by ram settings and they are automatically already at the 9-9-9-24 timings, 1T command rate.
Yikes! What else is a man to do?

    OK.
Perform the following tests with 2 memory modules (4GB RAM):
    1)
1.a) use the slots 1 & 2 (those close to the CPU).
Check out the usable system memory
    1.b) use the slots 1 & 3
Check out the usable system memory
    2) msconfig.exe / Boot / Advanced
2.a) set the max memory to 4096MB and reboot
Check out the usable system memory
2.b) unset (uncheck) the max memory setting and reboot.
Check out the usable system memory
    3) use the same 2 memory modules (4GB), access the BIOS and make them run at 1066MHz (7-7-7-20 at 1.50...1.55V)
If all the above don't fix the issue, post a screenshot of the memory mapping (System Information / Hardware Resources / Memory)
    Good luck.
Alright, RemusM...got some new developments here. Thanks for sticking with me....
    1)
1.a) Slots 1 & 2 (single channel mode): 4gb installed, 4 gb read and usable by OS
1.b) Slots 1 & 3 (dual channel mode): 4 gb installed, 4gb read but only 1.99 usable by OS
I stopped there and did some more slot tests...and I stand corrected from my earlier comments (I had written down that each stick worked in each slot, individually, but these notes are from 5 years ago...so...however):
With only 1 stick installed (2gb), starting closest to CPU:
    - Slot 2 (blue plastic slot): PC will not start, motherboard beeps 3 long beeps (ram error, from what I Googled)
    - Slot 1 (black plastic slot): PC starts, 2gb read and usable by BIOS and OS
    - Slot 4 (blue plastic slot): PC will not start, motherboard beeps 3 long beeps (ram error, from what I Googled)
    - Slot 3 (black plastic slot): PC attempts to start (3 times, fans and lights start and then stop) and then it hangs (with fans and lights on but does not start)
Would I be right to assume my Slot 3 has been the problem all along? Or is the motherboard supposed to only start with 1 stick of ram in slot #1?
Also of note: since I first built this computer it has always took 3 attempted starts (fans and lights go and stop) to finally fire up (I know, I should have realized this red flag sooner and probably mentioned it).
Also of note: with 3 sticks installed - in slot 2,1,3 - the system reads all 6gb but only 3.99 usable by the OS again. Indicating, I would think, that only slot 2 and 1 are being used.

  • SMBIOS Info wrong, only shows 1 stick of RAM

As always I would be grateful for any help at all, thanks...
The pcpitstop.com -  benchmark/system evaluation website just informed me that my SMBIOS info is incorrect in that it shows only one of my 2 512MB sticks of Corsair RAM. Now I know that incorrect SMBIOS info is common, and not always dangerous. However, the pcpitstop results mentioned the possibility that my BIOS may be corrupt. Together with the recent death of my Promise RAID Array, and the fact that the Intel App Acc RAID edition cannot read the "RAID Option ROM Chip" once again, I am now officially worried. I am afraid that in a couple of days, or weeks I am going to be rebuilding my whole system from scratch, because the MB died and took my other components with it! Is it time to hit the big red panic button, remove this board, and exchange it for a ASUS or ABIT at Fry's?(thank God I got the  "full performance 3-year no questions asked exchange warranty" on all my components!) If I can fix my problem, and/or test to see if the end is nigh, I will be eternally grateful for an explanation how. I have some troubleshooting experience w/ this stuff, but the 875 chipset is so much less forgiving than any I have worked with in the past, that I am becoming positively gunshy!
          Thanks again,
          John

Thanks Sean, I normally would be less inclined to get worried over such things. However the crashes etc. I have had with this MB have made me kinda nervous. Especially with all of the negative talk there has been about our board. Personally, I find it  satisfying as hell to work through the various issues, and get a good OC despite the challenges. If it were easy , or worked all the time, it would bore the hell out of me! Speaking of which, I have had some very positive results lately in the OC department. I must admit that I have not had it as bad as some others in terms of wierd AGP/PCI unlocking and such. The latest boost came as a silver lining to that dark assed cloud which fragged my Promise Array. Things are more stable, a couple of Applications are running error free for the first time and my IRQ situation is very clean.
I would like to ask you about the situation with the Intel RAID Application Accelerator however. Then I promise I'll leave you alone to enjoy your Holidays My question is: Am I doing something to cause the RAID Option ROM Version to become unreadable by the Intel software? Up until just recently, the application would give the message about not all functions being available, because I needed a BIOS upgrade. I know this was not true, but until I moved my RAM to DIMMs 2&4, pulled & moved my Santa Cruz Soundcard a couple of slots, cleared the CMOS and reinstalled th IAA RAID Edition, I would periodically get the ROM not recognized message and lose some functionality. I also noticed that Sandra and aida32 would both show my DIMM 1 as a PCI slot (which demonstrates what you said about such utilities) however both problems went away at the same time, Is there some other big no-no that I don't know about like the Striped Disks thing? My Rig  is flying right now, I just want to keep it that way... Thanks!
             Merry Christmas!

  • Why is only 2.73 Gb of RAM usable on a 4 Gb RAM MacBook on Windows 7 32 bit

I understand that with the video card (which is 256 mb of dedicated RAM on this model) I should have ~3GB of RAM usable on 32 bit version of windows 7. (Yes it is legal, which seems to be the first question in this discussion)
Is there something else in the equation that I am missing?
    1. 32-bit only applies to RAM over 4 gb and since this is bootcamp, it is not running another operating system.
    2. Unless there is something within the hardware of my macbook that is only able to use 3 Gb I apologize for my ignorance, it's not really a serious issue but I could almost swear that I had more memory usable on my windows 7 partition at one point in time.
    Thanks in advance

  • Satellite C55-A-19N: 4GB RAM installed but only 2,39 is usable

    Hello,
I have Toshiba satellite C55-A-19N with Windows 7 32-bit. It has 4 GB of installed memory, but only 2,39 is usable.
    Bios is the last.
I can not find anywhere in the system the ability to change it.
My desktop with core i5-2500K can see 3.29Gb from 4Gb RAM, why toshiba cant see it?

The shared part depends on the RAM amount which is installed.
The notebook description and the NVIDIA GeForce 710M details says this:
Video card: up next to 3787 MB with 4 GB system memory installed
and up to 4,095 MB with 6 GB of system memory (64-bit Windows operating system only).
So the shared part seems to be bigger than 300MB.
    By the way:
    open msconfig using search
    in msconfig click on boot
next inside boot click on advanced options
In boot advanced options click on maximum memory and increase the value
then click OK. Next click apply in msconfig and then restart your pc

  • Installed 8GB in DV6-2190 laptop but only seeing 3.99 usable - using Windows 7 64-bit

Hi there ... I have a HP DV6-2190 laptop, running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and have installed 8GB of RAM.  The BIOS sees this RAM just fine, as does a bootable Linux distro.  However, in Windows, I am only seeing 3.99 usable.  Since Resmon shows that the first 4GB are hardware reserved, does this mean that that 4GB of RAM is completely consumed by the video card?  Is there a way to get it use a bit less and give my programs a bit more?  I do end up running out of memory when using music editing programs and VST hosts, such as Cubase.
    Thanks!

  • Need some help - having problems with Dell Workstation BIOS not making all RAM usable

    Hi,
I'm having problems upgrading the RAM in my T7400 workstation. I previously had 8 x 1 Gb modules and I'm now trying to use 8 x 2Gb (total 16 Gb). This fills up all 8 DIMM slots on the motherboard.
The replacement RAM is of the correct type, PC2-5300F DDR2, CL5, EEC Fully Buffered (same type as I had before). Each stick is also the same manufacturer (HP Micron), size, rank, timings etc. The problem is the BIOS won't recognise more than 8Gb as usable (it does detect all 8 sticks as it lists out all of the modules).
This is what I've tried so far:
Tested each module independently in DIMM slot 1 and it's recognised fine. (And I know all of the slots work, since I previously had 8 x 1Gb working ok).
I tried putting 8 Gb in DIMM slots 1-4, still only reporting 4 Gb usable (all modules detected).
I ran memory tests, everything checked out fine.
I reset the CMOS with the RTC jumper (suggested elsewhere on the forums).
I could find no bios option to remap memory.
Windows 7 Pro also shows 16Gb installed but only 8Gb usable (this is not an OS issue, since the BIOS is showing the same problem, before it even gets to loading Windows).
I haven't tried flashing the BIOS but I doubt this is the issue. I've been through the changelog of each revision after mine and it doesn't mention anything about fixes to memory detection (Also similar reports of my issue said upgrading the BIOS made no difference). I'd rather not mess things up when everything else runs smoothly and I'm very much out of warranty.
Of course, Dell won't help directly without trying to bill me for technical support.
Can anyone please suggest anything else I can try?
    Thanks for reading.

Dimms that show half of the ram are High Density 4 rank and not compatible. Any ole Joes crab shack ram doesn't work. Only Specific vendors ram works. Buying ram based on a cheap price almost guarantees that its high density.  High density modules have less ram chips on them and are therefore cheaper.
    DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Fully Buffered • ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 1024Meg x 72 •
HIGH Density Ram WILL NOT WORK.

  • MSI 970A-G46 Ram Usable Issue

So the problem is that everytime I shut down my computer and then turn it on the next day, I have to enter BIOS to change the ram usability (In Computer -> Properties) from 7.97gb to 16gb .
When I turn on my desktop and go into properties, it shows that 16gb is there but only 7.97gb in parenthesis is usable .
It's really annoying to have to enter BIOS to change this everytime and thats just it, I set it to link and 1600mhz in the BIOS and the settings don't change, I just to have physically enter BIOS every time I start and hit save changes (I don't change any settings, I just have to save it every time) .

  • Is there a way to show only flagged email on iOS Mail?

I use Exchange 2007 at work with Outlook 2010.  I also use my iPad to connect to my company Outlook Web Access.  On the iPad I am able to mark a message as flagged.  I use the flag on a message to indicate that there's some action that I need to take on the email.  After I skim my inbox and flag all the emails with actionable items in them I go to my smart folder in Outlook which shows only my flagged messages so I can focus on those with actionable items.  I noticed on IOS Mail there does not seem to be such smart folders and there seems to be no way to view only messages which are flagged.
Can someone please explain how to do this on the iPad.  It is very important to me.  In fact, it's so important, that I would switch to Windows Phone platform just to have this one feature.
    Thanks!

I too would love to filter my inbox down to just flagged emails - I'm on iPad 3 with latest iOS, though it seems latest OS is not the problem, but rather a simple oversight in usability, and more important productivity.
On the note of productivity, why does it take SO MANY clicks to flag an email on iPad mail? Have to hit Edit > mark the email > Mark > Flag. I count three superfluous taps there. There should be a swipe action on the left (much like the swipe and Delete on the right hand side of the email heading) for flagging. And a simple little flag symbol at the top to hit when I want to see only flagged mails. Productivity should be the name of the game.
I also realise that venting in this forum probably isn't the best place for it...

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:
