Shrinking pics to fit

this might be a bit off-topic for this forum, in which case
please give me some clues where better to ask ...
In our latest docs I'm having to shrink many screenshots.
What methodology will give the best results?
I'm capturing the screenshots using Alt+PrtScn then pasting
into MS Paint. I'm saving the image unchanged as a BMP, which I
import into RH-HTML X5 and resize there by dragging the corners. Is
there a better approach which will preserve definition more?

When I'm working at Home I use FireWorks to scale images.
At work, where I'm limited to free programs, I use
GIMP.
Also on the topic of free programs, the following are also
really helpful:
Textpad -- Great Text Editor, way
better than Notepad or Wordpad
ColorPic -- Great for
finding out what color a particular logo is so you can duplicate
the color code in your HTML or CSS
FireFox -- Even though I
develop for IE, I use FireFox when programming JavaScript for the
HTML validation and JavaScript console.

Is there a way to shrink text to fit a column?

In both Word and Open Office, one can indicate that text entered into a column can either be wrapped or "shrunk to fit" the column width.
I can see how to wrap text.
Is there a way to shrink it to fit?
Let me be clear. I want to adjust the text size to conform to column width - NOT adjust the column width to accommodate all unwrapped text.

Thank you for clearing that up. I had tried searching for previous posts and didn't find any among the hundreds of possibilities.
By the way. Your response was both rude and arrogant. I'd expect this kind of behavior on a video game board - not in an Apple discussion group.
Frankly, to my mind, omitting text resizing isn't a feature of Numbers 09 - it's a flaw.
The feature is a CONVENIENCE, allowing the user to preserve the number of lines per page in a sheet where 1, 2, or 3 rows contain values larger than the norm. Most users probably don't want to hunt through several hundred rows to find those 1, 2, or 3.

I can't get shrink pic to work with mozilla firefox. I have windows XP and it used to work but no longer does. Can you please help?

Up until about a month ago I was able to shrink my photos with shrink pic. I use yahoo for my emails and since they did an update I can no longer shrink my photos using Mozilla Firefox. I thought this was a yahoo problem but yesterday I tried Internet Explorer with yahoo and shrink pic is working in their format. Can you please help?

It sounds like you are running the student edition which comes with a
textbook and doesn't support external code such as DLLs, CINs, or
ActiveX. You might want to check with others at your university and see
about getting access to an academic edition or a
full edition.

I movie w/ spliced pics throw off movie when uploaded to youtube? The pics lag and is now off with the audio. Doesn't happen with video, just pics and it's worse if I splice the pics to fit audio. Suggestions?

This is really annoying. I movie hd works well when compressing it to quicktime and uploading to youtube but when there's pics involved and I have to slice them to fit audio it messes with the timing in conjunction to the audio. Any ideas? It works fine in quicktime when compressed but once it's uploaded to youtube it acts fishy. Even though it's fine in quicktime it seems to be an issue in I movie and how it's compressed or something.

That's fantastic, worked really well, just like you said. I actually didn't expect such an easy solution to my problem, thanks very much.
It had the added bonus that it allows me to import the files quicker than before to iMovieHD if I am editing them.

Shrink table to fit

Hi,
I have a panelGroupLayout set to vertical and inside that a table that outputs a link once for each row in the iterator.
All well and good, but for some reason there is a load of whitespace under the last row - eg I produce 3 rows then there is a load of whitespace until my next component is displayed underneath.
How can I effectively tell the table to shrink to fit the data ? I was expecint it to do it itself. I can manually enter the height in pixels and that gets rid of a lot of the space but I don't want to do this as I might retrieve a large number of rows and the height won't be big enough.
I'm sure this can be done easily - i haven't figured it out though.

assuming you are using jdev 11g.
table component has property autoheight rows , set the value 10, and anything more than 10 rows it will put scrollbar on the table component , anything less than 10 rows it will have a blank area for the rest of the table.

Cropping Shrinks Pic To Almost Nothing

I've been using Photoshop to rotate and crop scans for quite some time now. To be honest, that's the only thing I can really do. Needless to say I've got it down to a science. Everything was working normally until all of a sudden now when I crop something the pic gets shrunk so small its almost invisible. Also, the actual photoshop window itself is shrunk down to the size of a fingernail. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? FYI, I am running CS4 on an iMac 2.66ghz w/ 4GB of RAM. Thanks so much

To clear it up... you should make sure before Cropping that the Resolution field on the Options Bar is empty. If it isn't, hit the Clear button. I suspect you had a number in there, like 1.

Iphoto or Mail automatically shrinking pics

Hi people - I have a problem that is driving me nuts - whenever I attempt to send an image through Iphoto it is automatically compressed even though I select the option to send this file in original condition.
This may not be an iPhoto problem as I was forwarded some images and as I clicked to forward them on they too where automatically compressed - as you can imagine this is extremely frustrating and I have attempted to troubleshoot, however being a recent MAC convert this is quite difficult to find a solution too.

Assuming that you are using Apple Mail - after you have the photo attached to the e-mail look down in the lower right hand corner and there is a image size menu - you can select actual, large, medium or small there (in addition to having a similar selection in iPhoto)

How do I set the Pic to fit inside the game for requests?

When I play farmville or cityville I can harvest or pick crops but can't make any requests too friends too help me with parts cause the menu comes up too big too hit send. So I'm unable too see or click on these requests.

'shrink canvas to fit' tool - how can i alter how close it crops the canvas?

- how can i alter how close it crops the canvas? at the moment it crops right up to the image, i need to to crop leaving a 1mm gap arround the image.
is this possible?

Smooth-scrolling page shrinks to fit on screen

Hi,
I'mtrying to produce a horizontally smooth-scrolling page and am facing a very odd issue. The page's dimensions are 2200*768, but the content viewer just shrinks it to fit in the screen, instead of having it fill its height and scroll sideways. (See the attached screenshot)
I am aware of the size limitation of PDF stacks on previous versions, but this happens with both PDF and PNG stacks, as well as on a v23 folio.
Also, once this problem is solved, is there a way to have the page present the horizontal center or right rather then left when it loads? I'm working on a Hebrew publication, meaning it is RTL, so having the page start from the left and scroll rightwards would not make sense

You can’t do that. Smooth scrolling only works vertically.

In Rtf Template ,table is not fit with window after hide columns

Hi,
In my RTF template i have table with 5 columns in that 3 colums will display based on condition. During runtime it showing correctly with 5 columns i.e fit to window.
suppose if any of column is not displayed(hide) and table is shrinking and not fit with window.
Tried with following option in word doc:
Right click on table and select Auto Fit--> Auto fit to window. but didn't work. Please let me know is any options to make table to fit with window.

Hi,
I've changed the output device in order to test with the LP01 printer.
This device is not active in SPAD but if i setup my action with this device I can preview the smartform. It is not possible to preview the smartform with the printer that I'd like to use.
Any ideas?

IMovie doesn't fit screen

Hi! I have this weird problem with iMovie that drives me CRAZY! I have a Mac Book Pro. It's hard to explain but i will do my best! In the event browser on the bottom half of the screen the events don't fit in all the way. The window cuts off but the events are still going horizontally. if thats make sense. Its like they are hidden on the out side of the window. It only happens occasionally and somehow it seems to fix itself miraculously when it feels like it but i would like to fix it now.
Just a side note for clarification, the window itself wont shrink down to fit inside the screen boundaries, it is stretched so if you want to view something on the right you have to move the whole page over.

Shrinking pictures

Ok, so I want to put wings on a girl I took a picture of. I cant figure out how to shrink her when I bring her to another picture. So this is what I did so far. I brought two pictures into PS cs6 One of my friend and one of the wings I randomly found. then I creatied a new document which is white. Now I want to bring the girl over to this white document and start from there. Now my question is this, am I doing this right or wrong, if so how do I shrink her to fit, it seems she is a giant when I bring her over. Is there a video or tutorial out there that can help me do this, I feel I really need to learn how to do this to understand this layering thing. I am sooooo lost, thank you for your input, keep the smiles on.

One way to size your photo is by duplicating the layer first (command-J), as seen below:
By pressing "command-T", it allows you transform the layer and size it how you want.
One thing you also mentioned was bringing another photo on top of another and resizing it. Below, I am selecting and dragging the photo right on top of the previous one I was working with.
As you can see below, I want to adjust the opacity, so that I can see the layer below as I adjust the size.
You can then transform (command-T) the layer how you would want.
The image is not how i want it to be orientated, so flipping it horizontally will re-orientate it.
(you can see it flipped below)
I then bring the layer's opacity to 100%, as seen below.

How to auto shrink text in keynote 6.1

Just updated to keynote 6.1. Does anyone know how to auto-shrink the text???

I believe the auto-shrinking text only works in text placeholders not text boxes or text in shapes, which was also true in Keynote 5.3. When you select a text placeholder, click on the Text tab in the Format panel and then click the Layout button. You will see a "Shrink text to fit" checkbox. Hope that helps.

Jpeg image won't scale to fit box. Any ideas?

I am trying to add text to my scanned watercolor illustrations for a childrens book I wrote. I am using Illustrator and I just loaded a jpeg image into illustrator, and it is HUGE! I tried to use the scale tool and I can't figure out how to get the jpeg image to shrink down to fit in the box! All I get is a blue snowflake and also a menu w/ choice of uniform or nonuniform for the scale. Don't understand. This is totally confusing! I am using CS3. Any ideas?

What are the physical dimensions of the jpeg?
Open it in Photoshop and check Image Size in inches or centimetres.
If you want to make it smaller, increase the resolution (ppi) without resampling.
