Shuffle 2.0 + windows XP sp2 + itunes 7.0.2 + usb 2.0 = why not??

Hello!
1st time plugged in, it was blinking orange. And still this is the only one it can do. I read that charging is working this time too, so i left it this way for 12 hours. Battery seems fine now, after unmounting and turning on.
The problem is, that XP cant recognize it as a device correctly. In the device manager it has a questionmark next to it. It seems Xp just needs a proper driver. So the iTunes can't see it too.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you are getting the same issue with any USB port you plug the iPod into.
The issue could be with the USB drivers on the computer, a possible fix for this would be to go to your computer manufacturer website or microsoft and try updating your USB drivers.

  • Is ipod shuffle compatible with windows xp (sp2)?

Please tell me, is ipod shuffle compatible to windows xp service pack 2???????

If it's a 4G Shuffle, then no.  You need at least SP3 installed in order for it to work properly. See this page for the minimum requirements.

Same thing goes for a 3G Shuffle as well.

That means only a 1G or 2G Shuffle will work with your system.

  • Shuffle recognized by Windows, but when iTunes starts, shuffle disappears

    Hello,
Without iTunes running, my 1st gen shuffle appears as E: in WinXP, and I've used the Apple reset utility to reformat and rename the device. All is fine until I start iTunes 7.0.2 - then My Computer no longer sees my shuffle, and of course iTunes doesn't see it either.
Can someone at Apple please help me?
    Thanks,
    -Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
I agree with you completely in that Apple need to find a solution. I, you (and a large population) are waiting.
However and just before I was going to give up. I found a 3rd party software utility which has actually given me full use of my ipod shuffle again. This little program seems to work between the ipod and itunes and keeps the communication link going, so you can delete and choose your own songs! Last night I successfully got it to work with me so here goes:
    www.copypod.net/podtools.php
Now there is one thing with this program that when you install it, it installs itself as a "software suite" of about 4 little programs. The "Podtools" is the one we want and is freeware. The others are all trials and will time-out after a while. This is slightly annoying, but so far can't see it causing any problems (yet!).
I took time to read the docs on the website and this:
    www.copypod.net/podtools_tutorial.php
    ...is what you do!
It worked for me and even though it's not the right solution, until Apple does something else I'm happy to use this.
    Good luck!
    Clive
P.S. I don't know what level of PC user you are (I don't want to be patronising), but I'm just going to say please virus scan downloads and set a restore point before installing the software - just in case it doesn't like it!

  • HT1329 In the "Copy music to new computer" step, I can't see iTunes folder on my iPod "drive".  Why not?

I am trying to move music from my old iPod to my new computer.  I follow the steps listed, but I cannot see the iTunes folder on my iPod 'drive'.  Any suggestions?

I may have misunderstood, but the iTunes folder will only be there if you have copied it from your old computer to the iPod first. If you no longer have the old computer see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device,

  • 2nd gen shuffle seen by windows, but not by itunes on other computers

    Hi Everyone..
Im trying to help a friend out, I suspect his 2nd gen shuffle is hosed, but thought I'd confirm with others.
He's had itunes and this shuffle for a while.. worked ok.  Stored it for a year or so, and now found that when we plug it into his laptop, Windows XP will see it as a usb drive (and I can transfer files onto it as a flash drive), but itunes doesnt see it.
In mucking around with it for some time, I finally installed a fresh copy of Itunes over the existing one and when it restarted I was told the shuffle was in Recovery mode.. so I reset it from within itunes.  Upon restarting, itunes again doesnt see it.  I then downloaded the reset utility and tried that, again, doesnt see it.
I installed itunes on my win7 desktop, my wifes 1st gen ipod touch is seen a-ok, but my friends shuffle is not.. again, I can use it as a flash drive on the win7 computer, but itunes does nothing.
    Is the shuffle toast?
    thanks,
    cakes..

Not looking good if you ask me especially since the problem was persistent across two different PCs and the reset utility did not help.

  • Shuffle connecting in windows

i have an ipod shuffle, 512mb (white stick, not the new one)
it has software version 1.0.5 on it
    i am using itunes 7.5.0.20
i use windows xp sp2 with all updates
when i plug the ipod in, it is recognised
when i try to do something with it (such as delete songs, add songs, restore the factory settings) it 'disconnects' itself (starts flashing yellow, windows explorer & itunes cannot see it), it then 'reappears' a few seconds later, like it was before it 'disappeared'
    i have tried http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    any suggestions?

Well, I have just realized that this problem was not because I had x64 Windows. I assumed that my nano was working because I set it up on my work pc earlier yesterday, and then it would not work when I got home.
I just plugged it into my non x64 PC, and I'm getting the same "USB Device Not Recognized" error popup. Is there any way to fix an iPod that will not connect to any PC?

    Hey Xxx_Dank_xxX,
Have you ever been able to sync your iPod shuffle to iTunes on your computer, or has something recently occurred?  Are you working with a Mac or a PC?   Without knowing what has been recommended to you, I'm going to start here with the basics troubleshooting for this issue.

  • I am totally ignorant when it comes to these products.  How can I put music on my shuffle without paying for it on itunes?  Can't I find a song somewhere and where and then transfer it to my shuffle somehow.  I have been trying for 3 hours.

I am totally ignorant when it comes to these products and devices.  I have a ipod shuffle, 4th generation.  I want to find music, without purchasing a song on itunes  and then copy it to my shuffle.  Is this possible.  If so, where do I find the music and how do I get it to my shuffle.  I have been trying for 3 hours and about to give up. Please help me.

Yes, of course.  iTunes was around before there was an iTunes Store.  And I think Apple cares MORE that you purchased an iPod, and LESS about where you get your music to play on the iPod.
You can buy music the "old school" way, on CD, and "rip" them into your iTunes library using iTunes.
You can download/buy music from other sources, as longs as the format is MP3 or AAC, and don't use copy protection (DRM).  NOTE:  iTunes Store music downloads do not use any DRM.
    One example is Amazon.com.
    http://www.amazon.com/MP3-Music-Download/b/ref=sa_menu_mp3_str1?ie=UTF8&node=163 856011
They offer a utility called Amazon MP3 Downloader, which automatically places your downloads into your iTunes library.
If the source just provides you with the downloaded song files, all you need to do is open a window showing the files or the folder containing the files.  Run iTunes and select Music in the sidebar, under LIBRARY.  Then drag the songs files or the folder containing the files from its window to the iTunes window, and drop them there.  iTunes will add the songs to your iTunes library.
Once the songs are in your iTunes library, you can automatically sync or manually load them onto your shuffle.

i have 64 bit windows 7- and itunes version 10.6.1.7. yet i cannot connect to the itunes store.  do i need to download something additional?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Apple Mobile Device Service has stopped working. Vista SP2, iTunes 10.5

Hi there. I've been having an issue syncing my iPhone to iTunes. Here's a description of the problem:
-With an up-to-date Apple Mobile Device Service, error windows constantly pop-up saying that it has stopped working. If I close the error window, another one pops up fifteen seconds later.
-If I plug my iPhone into my computer, it is not recognized in iTunes, because Apple Mobile Device Service is not running.
-This error does not occur on my desktop PC, so I have been able to sync my iPhone by loading all of my files onto a USB and transferring them onto it. However, I would much rather not.
Here are the steps that I have taken:
-Uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 10.5 with firewall off
-Individually uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple Mobile Device Service with firewall off
-Stopped and Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service in Administrative Tools -> Services
-Extensively searched the internet for solutions
-Replaced Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.5 with Apple Mobile Device Service for iTunes 10.1 (This worked PARTIALLY. The error windows have now stopped popping up altogether, but I cannot sync with iTunes because the Apple Mobile Device Service is out of date. It asks me to update it, I agree, and I get the Apple Mobile Device Service that spawns error windows and still does not allow me to sync my iPhone.)
I am running Windows Vista SP2, and iTunes 10.5. My Internet Security suite is AVG Internet Security 2011. My iPhone is running iOS 5.0.0. Here is a full report of the error:

Just a shot in the dark, but have you downloaded any program from Megaupload, like MegaKey?  If so then that is your problem. I had been having the exact same problem for the past 2 weeks. I couldn't figure out what it was and tried everything that you have.. Then was on a board and someone mentioned Megakey. Having tried everything else, I uninstalled the program and reinstalled the current ITunes and AMDS. My Ipad and Iphone connected with no problem.

  • HeIp Ipod Shuffle "Playlist" no longer appear in itunes when disconnected.

I got a new laptop and was forced to load up the latest version of itunes, which for me has worked fine. I connected my first gen. shuffle and married it to my new computer. But on my old computer/version of itunes i was able to keep the "shuffle's playlist" on itunes at all times so it was easy to tweak my songs and then whenever i charged my ipod all the songs would update. now it seems i cannot keep the playlist contents of my shuffle on itunes and have to update the shuffle manually while its connected which takes much more time. Where is the setting to change this so i can see the shuffle playlist all the time?

It appears from many other posts that the " Keep This iPod in the Source List" function isn't included in iTunes 7 unfortunately. You can leave your feedback on it's absence at this link: Apple Product Feedback
You can check out a workaround at this link which may help out for now: Create ready-to-sync playlists for Shuffles in iTunes 7

  • Windows XP or iTunes not recognising ipod

I see a lot of posts regarding ipods not being recognised by either Windows and/or iTunes and I just thought that I would pass on this tip that has helped me fix this problem on two Windows PCs.
In both cases the cause of the problem was usb related. For some reason Windows sometimes gets its underwear in a twist with its usb configuration and in both cases the following procedure fixed the problem.
    1.Turn off the computer.
2.Unplug all USB devices from their connections in the computer except for keyboard and mouse.
    3.Turn on the computer.
4.Plug devices back into the computer or hubs, one at a time in the following order. Wait for Windows to find and enable each device before connecting the next.
    a Hubs
    b Printers and multifunction devices
    c Scanners
d External drives (not memory or key plugins)
e Camera and PDA docking stations
    f All other devices
    5. Make sure the devices work.
    That's it.
I know it sounds like alchemy and i'm not suggesting that it will work for everyone with ipod recognition problems but it has certainly worked for me with two PCs. My PC and iTunes happily run 3 ipods - a shuffle,an ipod mini and an ipod nano.
I thought the above might just help some harrassed Dads and Mums from tearing their hair out on Christmas morning.

Why doesnt my 1st generation ipod shuffle appear under my devices on itunes when i plug it in? i have windows 7. I got the ipod today from a friend with their music. i deleted their music and added my own to the folder it was in. but when i unplugged it i still had their music and none of mine.

You need to restore the Shuffle in iTunes first. Then sync all of your music stored in iTunes over to it. Or is that what you did?
