Shuffle always plays first song

Whenever I turn on the Shuffle, it plays the first song in the playlist and does resume from the last song played. Is it supposed to work that way?

It seems that if you do two things you can avoid the "always plays first song" problem: (1) In the iPod settings, deselect "Open iTunes when this iPod is attached" and (2) don't open iTunes while the iPod is connected. It is the syncing with iTunes that makes it go to the first song, not the connection to the computer. The only thing is that in this state, the orange "do not disconnect" blinks, but I assume it is still charging. When done, you have have to be sure to eject the iPod first and not just take it off the charger. I've tried all of this and it seems to work, assuming it is still charging when the orange light is blinking.
As far as the iPod going back to the first song without it having been connected to a computer, that would seem to be a true malfunction of the device.

  • Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds

My Ipod shuffle stops playing the song after a few seconds, i can skip to the next song but it happens again for every song..
the thing is its random, sometimes 5secs or 10 secs or at the most a whole minute
i have updated, restored, reinstalled an all that but i really dont want to send it back as im in afghanistan and would be weeks before i see it again an i use eveyday!! for running.. i thought maybe sweat had got inside it, its not the headphones i have already tried swapping them.
please help out a soldier in need?

mine is doing the same thing; I have updated it, and restored the factory settings, and it still isn't working. I use mine for running as well; I think it has something to do with the sweat. Hopefully someone posts with a fix.

  • Playlist shuffle always plays the same few songs

I got a playlist that has roughly 250 songs. Everytime I connect my Ipod to charge it, then disconnect and start the playlist on shuffle mode, there's always a 20 to 30 songs playing first. If I close my Ipod and start the playlist again (still on it most of the time), it shows 1 of 250 and plays the same songs, but not in the same exact order (though sometimes it does for 2 or 3 songs). Just like if the shuffle was on "low" mode or something. It's still choose randomly some song here and there, but not that much since it the same few, ALL THE TIME for a while. The only way to get around this is to connect my Ipod to my computer again (it reset it somehow) or leave it open all the time so it knows wich song has been played (but that's terribly stupid). Is there any other way to go around that shuffling loop? I found myself skipping most of the time since I always hear the same few songs even though there's some songs in the playlist I've never ever played on the Ipod. Is there a way to set the "priority" (like play the most higher rated song first) or the "intensity" (from low to high) of the shuffle?
Got the last 7th gen. Ipod Nano.

On the iPod's Now Playing screen, there is a Shuffle button.  The symbol looks like two arrows crossing.  Is that set to ON?
I ask this because shuffing a playlist should NOT always put the same 20-30 songs at the top of the list. Shuffle means a randomly ordered list is created and played.  If the original playlist is in a somewhat random playlist order to begin with, playing it in play-in-order mode may seem like it is shuffling, even though the iPod is playing the list in playlist order.  And the same songs would be at the top of the list every time, because the iPod not shuffling the list.
Sorry if that's too basic, but I need to ask the obvious question first, and that question is, IS is the iPod actually set to shuffle songs?

  • Shuffle not playing "Explicit" songs

Hello, for some reason my shuffle won't play explicit songs. I can move them into the ipod when it's in the source list, and they show up in the "Contents" of the ipod, but don't actually play.
Any idea what is going on here?
Furthermore, is it just me or are there a lot of problems w/ the new iTunes?

I have a similar problem, but it's not explicit songs. I purchased Joanna Newsom's Ys album and can't play it on my first gen. shuffle. All of my other iTunes Store music plays fine on the shuffle. The album shows up in the shuffle playlist, but when I try to play it, it just skips those songs. I contacted the iTunes Store customer service and they referred me here:
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n303854
I did everything recommended in that article and it didn't help. Then the customer service person reposted the purchase and told me to try downloading again. Didn't work. And they basically said they can't do anything if that doesn't work. At this point, I just want a refund and I'll go to a CD store and buy it and rip it -- it's not worth going to an Apple store and waiting in line for personal assistance only to be told it's a glitch on their side.
Did Apple change the song formats again or something and stop supporting our shuffles?

  • Itunes plays first song of imported cd

How can I stop itunes from playing the first song off of every cd I import. It's really freaking annoying. Thanks.

How can I stop itunes from playing the first song off
of every cd I import. It's really freaking annoying.
    Thanks.
I asked a related question a few weeks ago and got no replies. In my case I am using the DOS command line (actually a shell "exec" inside an installer) to "import" files into iTunes, and the last song imported always plays, even though I explicitly set the Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing option to DISable this feature!
(The music was not imported from the iTunes Store, so that is not the problem. I copied the files originally from a CD I own onto my hard drive, and from there the installer is importing them into iTunes.)
I was wondering if you (or another reader of this thread) might have any relevant information to share with me.
    Thank you,
    Alan

  • ITouch only plays first song that I touched.

I cannot play any other songs in Music. Only the first song I touched yesterday will play. Any other album/song I touch stays grey. It will not forward to the next song on the same album. I tried shuffle, but it only shuffles the same song. It is not on repeat either. I have turned iTouch on and off. Am I doing something wrong? Please help. Everything else works fine.

when you select a song and tap the screen you see a play button, next and previous songs buttons and thane in the top left corner there is the repeat icon and in the left is the shuffle. if the icon is blue it is activated

  • Always skips first song in album

My iPod touch 4G always skips the first song on an album...software bug? Fixable?

Me too not on all albums but it happens to a few, I also get songs that skip midway and glitch, these songs are either off CD or itunes and they all seem to play fine on my laptop in itunes, windows media and media go, as well as on my phone... my phone is 2 years old and it can play music better than a brand new 64gb 4g Ipod Touch. I'm not a happy bunny

  • Is there a way to have iTunes always play 2 songs together?

Let's say the album you've imported has a few songs that are indeed separate tracks but they blend seamlessly when played consecutively and are kind of meant to be heard together.
In other words, can I make it so "We Are the Champions" always plays directly after "We Will Rock You" even in shuffle?

Here's free program that will help you do what you want: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/jointogether.php

  • Slideshow only plays first song in 3 song playlist

I created a playlist in iTunes for my slideshow. But the iPhoto slideshow only plays the first song in the list over and over again, even if I selected a playlist of three songs when I clicked on the Music button.
    Using iPhoto 08 v7.1.5

Have you tried creating the playlist in iPhoto?
Find the second and third tracks via the Finder and check their ownership and permissions.
Another test you can run is to create a new, test library, import the same number of photos as you have in your slideshow and see if you can create a slideshow and play the 3 tracks fully. If you can then the issue lies in your primary library.

  • After recharging nano starts again with playing first song

on my nano or a couple of hundred songs after some playing time recharging is needed.
after playing again (after recharging) the nano starts with the first song in the playlist and not where stopped.
how can i arrange that after recharging the nano goes on with playing the last played song and so on.

Are you connecting it to the computer to charge? If so, you can't. It will go to the "do not disconnect" screen and so lose it's place.
However, if it's connected via a wall charger, it should resume from where it left off after it's charged.
    At least, that's my experience.

  • Bug: Won't play first song on an album

So, I'm wonder if this is a bug, or if it's my phone: if I want to play an album on my CDMA iPhone 4, it skips the first song every time. Is there a fix for this problem? I realize there's a workaround: I could create a playlist for every album, but that's inconvenient.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions JV,
Some other iPhone owners are discussing the same thing here -> http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2663589
Some of them believe the skips are related to scrubbing podcasts. There are a few workarounds suggested too, like restarting the iPhone.
    WTH.

  • Is there a way to make the shuffle mode play all songs before repeating?

Too often, the shuffle songs mode seems to lock into a few artists and albums, and all too often plays songs I heard yesterday (or very recently). I have a large library. Is there a way to make iTunes and/or my iPod shuffle songs to a degree that I get to hear all songs before they are repeated?

Yes — don't stop the music. Both iTunes and iPods will shuffle your entire library (or playlist), playing each song exactly once before stopping. If you sync your iPod or navigate to another playlist, shuffle will get re-shuffled; if you leave it paused in the middle of shuffling, the shuffle will continue when you start it up again.
Alternatively, you can create a smart playlist that only contains music you haven't heard in the last N days, then shuffle that instead.

  • Shuffle doesnt play some songs properly

Hey, I'm having problems when listening to some songs on my Shuffle: it's skipping parts of songs, but only for one album: Elephunk by Black Eyed Peas...
I tried to check wether it could be a problem of bit rate or something of this kind, but other songs with same rate play without any problem...
Has anyone had any problem of this kind, or have a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

Found a way to solve the problem, by simply creating AAC version of the songs, which work.

  • IPhone shuffle keeps playing same songs

Why does my iPhone play the same songs when I choose shuffle? I can hear same song possibly twice in one hour. Any help would be great so I can have it not repeat same songs so frequently.

With the song playing, tap the cover art. You will see a scrubber bar and a repeat icon and a shuffle icon. Tap the repeat button - blue is on, white is off.
This is explained on page 63 of the manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

  • In a playlist, when I select a song toward the bottom it always plays a songe one or two down the list - not the one I selected

In the "Purchased Songs" playlist on the iPhone, when I select a song toward the bottom of the list, a song one or two down the list is actually being played.  It's like something got the list index off.
    Any help?

I'm in the same boat...so far no one has helped here
