Shuffle by album doesn't work

Hi, i have a 5g ipod 60gb. I have about 15 different albums by the smashing pumpkins. I want it to play a random song from each album, like if i was to have the 15 discs in a 15 disc changer and put it on disc shuffle, it would play one song randomly off a random disc. How do you do this, its the main reason i got an ipod to begin with?

You could create a playlist containing just the albums you want to shuffle, then in the iPod, go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE, and set it to SONGS. Then, go back and play that playlist & it will be shuffled.

Sort Albums Doesn't Work

I have a bunch of albums in iPhoto that I am trying to sort, and it just doesn't work.
When I select them, right-click, and choose "Sort Albums" from the context menu, either *nothing* happens, or else the order of the albums is altered in some seemingly random way but the results are not alphabetical order.
I don't see how the program could somehow not understand "alphabetical" so there must be something keeping it from actually doing the sort. Anybody have any clues?

When there is a selection, if "Sort Albums" will do nothing then the option should be greyed out. Otherwise, it should sort those items which are selected. Doing nothing and giving the user no feedback is not acceptible.
You are right, that is confusing. It is either a bug or a poor design.

Shuffle songs position doesn't work

My iPod doesn't work on the shuffle position, just play songs in order. Anyone could help me???

Unfortunately it just flash an orange light on the led but it doesn't show up in iTunes or on the desktop, no error messages.
Now, after many minutes from the connection, an "Ipod" show up in system Profiler in the "Hardware/USB" line, under "Bus USB" and this is what I can read:

So I start "iPod Reset Utility 1.0.4" but it says "waiting for iPod is ready", but after many minutes the situation does not change, except the intermittence of the orange led.
And "iPod Reset Utility" does not recognize the iPod:

Music album doesn't work on iPhone 4

I have an iPhone 4 and about a month ago I bought lil Wayne's new album on iTunes. Recently, I went to listen to the album and it doesn't work, it says the song is playing but no sound comes out.

I fixed my powerbutton easily with some
water repellent oil. I dont know what its called, it is that thing you use for locks and hinges anyway. My iphone powerbutton has been working for like 7 months now. There is no difference from when it was new! I can really recomend this. Just remember to turn of the phone and have it upside down when you spray. And dont use to much! Theres no need for more than a few drops.

Can't Drag and Drop songs onto Shuffle. Autofill Doesn't work either

I know that many people have been having this same problem.
The Shuffle is recognized by the computer AND even iTunes. It shows up in the playlist, but when you try to Autofill or even Drag and Drop the songs individual, the songs, for lack of a better term, don't stick.
It was working perfectly when my daughter first got it for Christmas, and now, this happens. We have already had to return one shuffle.
Does this one have the same fate???

Same problem here too. Was workiong fine about a month ago. When looking at songs in my Shuffle Library the new ones I have manually dragged accross appear with a 'dot' beside the track number - it is these songs which are not being transferred to the shuffle. I can't even get the message at the top of iTunes to say "Ipod Shuffle is Connected & Updating - Do Not disconnect." I have updated iTunes to latest version and completed all Shuffle updates. What's the go? Is the only solution to have the shuffle replaced? Seems very strange it used to work and now it doesn't - nothing had changed in the intervening period. Appears I'm not the only one with this issue. Does anyone have an answer?

Complete My Album Doesn't Work

I've been having this issue since December of last year and actually posted a discussion about it in March, and I was wondering if anyone had had any success at getting Complete My Album to work again. Basically, iTunes does not give me the option to complete any albums. The text is not grayed out as it should be. I'm wondering how to fix this, because I don't want to pay the full price for an album when I've bought most of the songs off of it. Thanks!

purchase history, click "Report a Problem" next to

Doing this would be fine for an album here and there, but I have over 100 I can "Complete" and I'm getting this message on almost every one of them, and it's been going on for a couple weeks.
We shouldn't have to "Report a problem". We should be able to click the complete button, and get the rest of the album just like Apple is telling us we can. It's gotten real annoying clicking all the "Complete" links untill I find one that actually works.

Do you mean that you can't download it or that you've downloaded them but the tracks don't play ?
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that album and use the 'Report a Problem' link (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

Sorting albums doesn't work for some

Hi,
I added several files which have the same album name and same album sorting name, however, itunes add them under seperate albums?!?!

Album shuffle doesn't work

For some reason, selecting shuffle by album doesn't work for me. In fact, all of the three shuffle by options seem have the same effect; shuffling by song.
whats going on? shuffle worked fine in 4.9. what did apple do to mess up a perfectly working shuffle feature? Am I missing something, or are other people having this problem?
On a similar note, I'd like to be able to select what type of shuffle I want by playlist, so I don't need to go into preferences to switch that when I change playlists.

Album shuffle is currently only working if you have the smart shuffle slider exactly in the middle (ie, "random"). If you move the smart shuffle slider in either direction it causes album shuffle to instead become "song shuffle".
So, place the slider back in the middle and it should work just like it did in 4.9.

Sound check doesn't work with shuffle

I can't get the sound check to work on my shuffle. I enabled it in iTunes, and it works fine for my music when playing with iTunes, but when I place the music on my shuffle it doesn't work, even though I have soundcheck enabled in the ipod settings.
I even 'restored' the shuffle and reloaded all my songs, and the sound check still didn't work. Help!

Sound check is basically useless. Hasn't worked effectively on any model I've purchased. However, as others have pointed out, you can adjust the volume of a song so that your playlists don't cause public embarrassment. Simply do a control "i" on a particular song. In the "info" tab, you can increase or decrease the volume of a particular tune. However, if you make the adjustment, be sure to adjust all of the tune from that album. Otherwise, when you play the album, the song you tweaked will have a different volume from the rest of tunes on the album. It ain't a great fix... but it's better than what the programmers have done with sound check.

Shuffle Music on my iPhone 4s w/iOS6 doesn't work.

When I hit shuffle button, it'll switch to another song, but it won't do this song after song automatically -- it won't keep shuffling. So whatever song I'm currently on, it just keeps repeating, unless I pick another song or hit shuffle again to pick another song. Then that song will keep repeating over and over until I pick another song or hit shuffle again. Doesn't matter if i'm in songs, album or artist setting. Once a song comes on it, it just repeats. How to I resolve this?
It does seem to work when I do shake to shuffle. But shouldn't it work if I just hit the shuffle button? I've tried it with both shake to shuffle turned off and on.

Your home button is broken. Bring it in to Apple for evaluation and likely exchange.

That is about normal. You can maximize battery life by changing some settings. See:

My step daughter has an ipod shuffle, and when you press any button, the amber and green flash alternatively and the thing doesn't work. The computer doesn't even register that it is connected. I have tried other USB ports to no avail. Sometimes the computer recognises it, but states that the device is faulty. I can't therefore reset the thing. What is worng. Can anyone help me???????

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 7520 ... pretty new. Sometimes when I download a CD / album to my library acouple of tracks get separated away from the main group. I've tried to click and drag the stragglers over to the main group but it doesn't work. Any Ideas

If I understand correctly, it sounds like iTunes is not grouping the songs from a particular CD together. The cause could be something as minor as a misspelling or slight variations. For more information, see the following resource:

Music App shuffle option doesn't work

Stats: iPad 1, iOS 5.0.1
Music App shuffle option doesn't work. I have already reset the iPad, removed all my music and resynched. Shuffle button is selectable, but just plays the songs in alphabetical order, even if I try to skip to another song or start anywhere on my playlist.
So far this version of music player for apple product is disappointing, the iTunes app before never had these issues. There are some serious bugs in this Music app, Apple your comback success was largely because of iPods and iTunes, so music is a big part of Apple users use, please fix this.

The bug is marked as resolved in Firefox OS v1.1. Once ZTE update the Open to v1.1 the bug will be fixed on your device.
v1.1 of Firefox OS was officially released yesterday. Hopefully it won't be too long before it reaches the ZTE Open. See here for more details:
