Shuffle Chapters in DVD Player

Anyone know how to shuffle chapters using DVD Player? I'm trying to get to an Easter Egg on a specific title and chapter of a DVD. Others say entering a title on the Main Menu works on some home DVD players; unfortunately, doing this in DVD Player is not permitted with this particular DVD.
I was able to get to the hidden footage by using the "Shuffle" function on an 8 year-old home DVD player. Short of doing some crazy technique like s-video to AVI into my video camera out to my PowerBook G4, I'm not sure how I can otherwise view it.

Hi Suzanne:
By now I assume you realize there is no DVD Player forum...;)
And you probably have figured out that you can't shuffle chapters either...

Sorry about that! ;/

  • Control DVD Player to play specific chapters of inserted DVD?

(this question also posted in Automator discussion)
I would like to create an applescript that will instruct DVD player to play back certain chapters on a DVD. I want to send the script by email to a friend, so she can insert her copy of the DVD (The Yellow Submarine, actually), run my script, and view a "scripted" playback of chapters I've selected.
Even better would be the ability to determine edit points by time rather than chapter.
My applescript skills are weak--I can edit an existing script, but I don't have experience writing from scratch. Thanks very much for your suggestions.

  • In the dvd player, the button to go back chapters does not work!

Hi.. I need some help please.
In the dvd player when I ask to skip a chapter, the command works fine, however when I ask to return to the previous chapter it back to the beginning of the same chapter. And only works if I press the back button twice quickly .. How do I solve this problem?
I already tried to work with multiple timelines, and also with a single timeline containing the video divided into chapters..
    I appreciate the help!! Thanks..

It is normal behavior when pressing the "Previous" button on the DVD remote that it navigates back to the start of the current chapter. That IS the "previous" chapter mark, from the current play position.
Think about it - someone is viewing your DVD and in the middle of the current chapter, they decide they want to review the material by restarting the chapter. That Previous button does exactly what it is supposed to. The user would not want to jump back TWO full chapters.
    Thanks

  • Exported slideshow from Iphoto11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine but show stops 1/2way through because DVD has 2 chapters. How do I eliminate chapters?

I exported slideshow from Iphoto 11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine, but then when playing on DVD player show stops about 12 way and starts over. Seems there are 2 chapters in show. I wan t show to play straight through until end. How do I elimiante chapters or solve problem. Thanks. Bob Low

    Try this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Play the disk image with DVD Player and see if you get the same start over half way thru.
Did you create the slideshow in iPhoto in the slideshow mode?
or were you in an album and then used the Share ➙ iDVD menu option?  What I'm trying to find out is if the slideshow in iDVD is a movie file or an iDVD slideshow with the photos from iPhoto? If it's the latter how many photos in the slideshow?

  • DVD Player Chapters Window - Thumbnail issue

Hi there, strangely enough the Chapters window in DVD Player isnt displaying the right thumbnail... it usually is one chapter off. no matter what DVD i use, this same thing happens. i've been using DVD Player for over 1 year and a half and i never had any problem with Chapters window until a few weeks ago. is anyone else having the same problem?

The DVD drive can easily be replaced.

  • Button action with desk DVD player and PC player

    HI!
I built and burn a DVD with one menu with several buttons triggering different chapters. Before the menu I have a small introduction clip.
This works perfectly on my desk DVD player, but on any computer I get the introduction clip, then the menu, but the buttons don't have any action. Did I forget something.
    Thank you

    Thanks for the info.
Interesting, that they work fine in Preview and on set-top player. I do not have/know WinDVD, so I'm not sure of what problems it might have. I happen to use other software DVD players, and so far, they all work like my set-tops and Preview.
I'm assuming that when the left-mouse button is over your Button and pushed, nothing happens. Does the Button Highlight? Your described PS work should not have altered the Button's ability to function. If they work elsewhere, they *should* work in a software player. I assume that ALL Buttons exhibit this behavior?
Maybe someone can help with WinDVD. Might be something very simple, that's just beyond my knowledge.
Other than to say your Project looks good in detail, I can't really help - sorry.

  • Playing DVD Crashes MBP (no matter what dvd player software I use)

    Current specs:
    OSX 10.6.6
    2.8 GH Core 2 Duo
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    512MB GeForce 9600M GT
I first got my mac book pro from a friend and did a fresh install of OSX. I dont believe I ever tried to play any dvd's on it until now (months later).
Originally when I got installed, I went through and deleted a lot of the default mac apps using appzapper that I didn't want cluttering up my install, and that included "DVD Player".
Fast forward a few months, I try to play DVD in vlc and it crashes vlc. I cant open the file on the disk directly, nor can i just go to "open disc". if i click it it spins up and then it stays at zero and wont play. If i try to view the file right on the dvd with vlc it either crashes or plays a garbled 2-10 seconds and then crashes
I ended up figuring this was because i deleted dvd player and must have deleted some codec or something along with it... after googling i remember people saying they deleted dvd player and had problems. So i got Pacifist and installed dvd player directly onto the computer
Same issue, vlc crashes, and now when i put in a dvd, DVD Player stops responding immediately. if i start up dvd player first with no disk in, it loads fine. when i put the dvd in it just stops responding and wont play.
    so far I have
    1. deleted preferences in dvd player
    2. I'm POSITIVE it's not the dvd. i just watched the dvd in my friends older mac laptop. Likewise, every dvd i rent from redbox will do this so i know its not just this particular dvd
    3. CD's load just fine from the player, just not dvd's
    4. ive tried changing the display interlace quality from the view menu in dvd player
    5. I tried making a new admin account and playing it with dvd player from there and the same thing happened, just stopped responding
    6. I just tried zapping PRAM and NVRAM (command option P + R), still no dice
    7. Okay, i just tried opening in VLC media player with 'no dvd menus' and it didnt crash.. it still didnt play but it at least allowed me to see the error output (see down below the post)
The only thing i can think of is i somehow corrupted some basic fundamental/hardware-software interface driver or soemthing that allows dvd's to be read (codec? i have no idea), as it crashes any dvd app I have tried. (so far only vlc and dvd player). I tried in quicktime but couldnt find how to open a dvd
    Thanks!

Having tried to re-install the DVD Player application it might be worth applying the 10.6.6 combo update (not the update via Software Update). From the threads I've read here it can often help with issues in this kind of area. Other than that it might be worth backing up your files and consider starting with a fresh copy of OS X. For all the space these apps take up I'd probably recommend leaving all the Apple ones alone.
I take it you have the same problem in Front Row too?

  • Are there glitches in iMovie or iDVD that would create problems with viewing a finished project on a standard dvd player?

Everytime I render a new project in iMovie and share it with iDVD to produce a video, there always seems to be glitches in the finished project.  I have gone back and tried to recreate the slideshow, but have not had a whole lot of luck.  I am wondering if I need to delete the iMovie and iDVD applications from the computer???  If I do that will it fix my problem or will I even be able to redownload the programs without having to pay for them again?  I have spent more time and $$$ trying to get a viewable disc to burn and am ready to get rid of the computer altogether.  Hopefully that will not have to happen, but this is a constant issue that I go through everytime I work on a project.  Any suggestions???

    Hi
    Yes and No.
There are Bugs and ways to make better or Worse DVDs - see if this can help.
There are two "Bugs" (or at least one)
    • In iDVD - do not go back to video editing program - if You got Chapters set in Your movie - if You try - then now back in iDVD it will ask You to up-date ==> all Chapters will point to Chapter one. Medicine - create a brand new iDVD Project.
    • There MUST NOT BE any Chapter mark set in very beginning of the Movie - or in any transition or within 2 seconds from them.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser ( AND AS MEDIUM - not HD etc as DVD then will suffer in quality ) or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices

    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

  • Scripts works in Simulator and Apple DVD player but not on TV

I have a basic project with two different tracks.
The first one is video and audio. Plays "as is".
The second has video, two audio and one subtitle. Depending on which button, the second Track should be played with different audio and with/without subtitles.
(I use GPRM 1 to set the subs stream, GPRM 2 for the audio and GPRM 3 for menu button navigation).
On the second Track I have a pre-script that sets the streams depending on the value of GPRM 1 and 2.
Works fine in Simulator and in Apple DVD player, but not on the stand-alone player.
Any idea what might be the issue here?
    in short:
Button 1: Play Track 1 "as is" (audio 1, no subs)
Button 2: Play Track 2, audio 1, subs on
Button 3: Play Track 2, audio 2, subs off
Button 4: Play Track 2, "as is" (audio 1, subs off)
Menu button and End Jump should go to the corresponding menu button.
    Many thanks for your help.

It is part personal preference, part artistic, part what makes the user experience the best so there may not be one "right" answer and I have often made menus one way than changed them when viewing the DVD for something that seemed to work better.
Looking at you description I started playing with some ideas in my head and started typing them, then changed what I was writing
It sounds like you want chapter selections for both track 1 and track 2? If so it may make sense to have the initial menu have Track 1 and Track 2 buttons which then link to sub menus where there is "Play All," selections for each section of each movie and one last button for the preferences.
Alternatively you could also place the preferences selection button on the main menu, though since Track 1 does not sound like it really has preferences you need to make sure that users do not become confused and think they have turned something on/off and are not seeing these options when they thought they selected them when they play back Track 1.
Also with 6 to 8 chapter markers you may be getting close to the point where scripting could make it easier if your selections are just to play the sections - in other words for track 2 four stories take care of the combinations Audio 1/Sub Off, Audio 1 Subs On, Audio 2 Subs Off, Audio 2 Sub On. If the chapter selection starts the track a scene then plays through you can target chapter markers in the story so 4 stories takes care of it. If you are just playing sections you would need 4 x 6 or 8 chapters - 24 or 32 stories roughly. But it is actually fairly quick to do - just set up the intial Play All with all subtitles and audio selections unchecked except for "1" then copy from there. Probably should take under 10-15 minutes or so
Put a real quick thing together for a quick view of the tracks. I can flesh it out more if you like.

The main menu will be the title menu, then the sub-menus (including the set up menus) can be placed in the same VTS as the applicable tracks which can help a bit with DVD performance speed. Since there is 6 to 8 chapter markers on a track each of the main sub-menus would have 8-10 buttons which can work in the design.

  • How to control DVD player menu functions in DVDSP

I have built a DVD with DVDSP and have everything working as intended except for one thing.
When I press the Home button on the DVD remote, it goes to the DVD player's menu and shows a DVD icon, then when I select the DVD icon, it shows the title list with 4 titles:
    1. Warning (which has all User functions disabled)
    2. Chapter 1
    3. Warning (which I don't understand because there is only 1 warning track)
    4. Menu
I want to set this so when selecting the DVD icon you are directed to the DVD's main menu, and it doesn't display the title list at all.
Just to give more info, the way the DVD is set up is: In the DVD remote function area, I have my title, Menu and Return buttons all routed to my main menu.
There are 4 menus (Home, About, and 2 chapter menu pages), 4 tracks (First play = .25 sec Black which end jumps to a Warning and disclaimer track which end jumps to another .25 seconds of black which jumps to main menu. These have all user functions disabled. The 4th track is the main video with 16 chapters). There are no scripts.
I have tried this with many store bought DVDs and they behave differently. Most show a DVD icon then when that icon is selected, it goes to the main menu screen. Others behave by showing each chapter as a title after selecting dvd icon.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!
Attached are 2x diagrams, how the dvd is currently acting, and how i'd like it to.

Finally, something new here lately!   (well, besides the new look)
In my 13 1/2 years working with DVD Studio Pro (starting back when it was 'simultaneously' Astarte DVDirector and Spruce Maestro) I've never seen a workflow that included the DVD player's system menu as a navigational component in the flow chart for a functional DVD.
    Hi T20,
First of all, are you sure you want to know the answer to this?
The area you bring up is almost a 'blue pill / red pill' kind of thing, or choosing to turn into a 'grasshopper'..., or something like that. Definitely a rabbit hole.  But if you're working for paying clients and are going into mass distribution, i.e., replication, then your question brings up a precisely the kind of multiply connected DVD specification components that are crucial to understand; especially working with an authoring system like DVD Studio Pro.
Of course, if you're good at following directions and would have the trust enough to carry out the successful experiment, then it could be a one-and-have-fun-getting-it-done operation...with full understanding of what just happened reserved for a later date.
Though, to answer your question fully here would take some doing.
Here's what I'm willing to share on this public board about the matter: The short answer would be to remove all of your warning material from the Title Domain in the VTS Spaces, i.e., eliminate the warning clip / black frame Tracks. You should have one Track in your project, according to the intent of the DVD Specifications for your project type.
Important Note: Putting a short duration warning or black frames in an entire VTS is a "best practice" promulgated for years out there that has gotten a lot of good authors in trouble in many types of players; errant navigation, player crashes, disc recalls, etc., and should not be done. In most cases, nothing should be put in a Track that you would not want the viewer to be able to Resume to; and more importantly, the DVD Studio Pro abstraction layer authoring system can not afford to have the first VTS 'wasted'. Real program content with video and however many audio and subtitle streams should reside in the first VTS for all DVD SP projects (more DVD Spec kinda stuff to go over the reasons why).
Once your project is setup optimally, then it's a matter of understanding the DVD Specification "Stopped State" and what both happens and what you want to happen afterwards; which depends on where you were when you got into the stopped state and other factors.
The below page images (unreadable, but to show there's quite a bit to it) are from the official DVD Specifications for Read Only Discs - Part III VIDEO SPECIFICATIONS.  The page image on the left starts the several page section in the DVD Specifications devoted to what's allowed for navigation commands between domains - and what navigation commands and (unfortunate) circumstances cause playback to go into the "5th domain" - the stopped state.  The Image on the Right starts the section in the specs for what happens and what's allowed by the remote control user operations (UOPs) between domains, including from the Stopped State.
The player will use what's allowed by spec in the UOPs to take you out of its setup menu and into the chosen target in the various domains. Though, I have found several players that pretty much do what they want in this regard, as well, but my method takes care of them, too (what player model are you using, may I ask?  I have over 200 players here, and might have that guy).
The somewhat challenging part is working with DVD SP's abstraction layer auto-programming so as to anticipate this revival of playback from the Stopped State - which never occurs from the authored First Play PGC, as well as player variances with options they allow from their system menus.
So an adjusted startup First Play program routing (looks kinda 'weird' in the DVD SP project interface) would then handle a chosen Menu to play from that players system setup screen, whether the viewer chooses the "Menu" or the one remaining "Title" option. It took me 3 years to figure this out, but has been working flawlessly for hundreds of replicated titles since the fall of 2006.
Good question, t20. It takes quite a bit to get me out my 'bat cave' these days. Also, I'm about to start up my old "TFDVD.com" DVD SP support site again soon (adding Scenarist Professional support), this time under what I hope to be a true "DVD Producers Guild", and it's great to see some of this kind of 'life' still out there!
My first major article for the new site is tentatively entitled "The Most Perfect DVD Startup Action" and I will, in 'excruciating detail', cover not only the many reasons a discs startup strategy is crucial, and how to implement the DVD Specification and DVD player experience based startup principles for various types of DVD Projects, but also how to keep control of navigation during startup from the Stopped State in players.  This article will have illustrated specific instructions for the DVD Studio Pro and Scenarist Professional authoring systems (Note to my good 'little monsters' from back in the day; this is not the same article from my 2001 article with a similar name).

  • How Can I get my Chapter Markers to function on a standard DVD Player

I imported the movie(iMovie 09) into iDVD 09. Added the chapters in iDVD as advised. Everything works beautifully in the preview mode. I burned it to DVD using Verbatim -R at 1X speed as advised and VOILA, everything works beautifully. All the buttons work. All of the chapter buttons work. Perfectly----
As long as I play it on A computer.
But as soon as i try it on a DVD player---everything works perfectly except for the chapter buttons. I can see and select each chapter. The rectangle appears but they wont connect to the chapter at all. The chapter will not play.
On a computer it works fine just not on a DVD Player.
    Ideas?
    Ed

    Hi
    Just thinking.
    • Did You try more than one stand alone DVD-player ?
    • When You burned Your DVD - Did the internal Hard disk have more than 25Gb free space
iDVD and Mac OS Can't address any other for it's temp files - pretty important.
    If so I would.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named:
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
Last resort: from Craig: Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
    Yours Bengt W

how to get mac dvd player not to play all and stop at each title

    Play all chapters, i mean.
I have a DVD and I would like to just play a chapter, and discuss it, without the next chapter automatically starting. Usually DVD players have the "Play all" you can turn off and on...but I don't see it with the Mac player.

  • DVD Player error -69902?

I've successfully played DVDs on my iMac (24" 2.4 GHz Aluminum) -- Front Row works like a charm! However, I've recently encountered a DVD that has issues with my computer:
A couple of weeks ago I received the Beatles' "Help!" two-DVD set in timely fashion after ordering it through Amazon.ca. Unfortunately, although the second disc works perfectly on my computer (a 2007 Apple iMac 24" 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB of RAM), the first disc will not play past the FBI warning and the opening page (where Play, Subtitles, Settings, Chapters is located). Whether I use either Front Row or DVD player, the result is the same: when I insert the disc into my computer, I am presented with the error message "Skipping Over Damaged Area". If, in DVD Player, I click on "Title" in order to change chapters, an error message pops up informing me "DVD Player encountered a system error. Error -69902". And in DVD Player, I am informed that this disc contains only one chapter. In any case, when I'm on the Help! opening page & I click on "Play" (in either DVD player or Front Row), nothing happens. No movie. The music keeps looping on the opening page, but not much more than that.
Out of curiosity, I tried playing this same disc on a standalone Toshiba DVD player hooked up to my home TV, and amazingly, the disc plays fine!
After emailing Amazon, I was instructed to return the DVD for a replacement, which arrived in the mail today. Imagine my surprise when the replacement displayed the same error messages! Before I return this disc for a refund, maybe someone can fill me in: what is DVD Player error -69902?

  • DVD Player freezes when ajusting sound...

The DVD Player freezes every time I try to ajust the sound or pause the movie or change chapters. Most of the time it will sit there with the spinning beach ball and not do anything. This happens also when using Front Row. Is this software or hardware related? Its version 4.6.5 firmware 4.6.8, thanks for reading this.

Specs are 2.0 GHz Intel, 1GB RAM, 100GB HD. I make sure that no other programs are running while watching a DVD, and I have no other problems like this with any other programs, so far. So I am sure that its not due to lack of memory or proccesser speed. I will try 'Repair Permissions' and see what happens.

  • DVD player not working w/specific DVD

I have one specific DVD that is giving me trouble. It's one of a set, and all the others play fine. When I insert this particular DVD (it looks totally clean, scratch free) it starts to play from the beginning and will not stop. The program goes into "non-responding" mode. The DVD plays ok, but I cannot select chapters, pause, fast-forward, change views, etc. I can only get away from the video playing by going to spaces and then I have to force quit.
    Any thoughts?
ETA: I have not tried this DVD in another computer or DVD player (I don't have another Mac).

With some dvd drives, the tiniest flaw can make the dvd not play. I had one dvd that did this. It looked perfect, no scratches, fingerprints, chips. I finally had it just right in the light and there was an opaque spot about the size of a dime.
