Shuffle dead (again)

My ipod shuffle is showing no status lights, battery or otherwise.
I think that I left it on by mistake after a run last night. When I saw the switch in the on (shuffle play) position I thought "Well I better plug it in because the battery is surely drained" When I plugged it in to the usb port to charge nothing happened. No orange light, no green light, nothing.
I opened the ipod update utility to see if running it would help but it doesn't recognize it and neither does iTunes.
This is my second shuffle, the last one stopped working after less than a month of use, so this is quite frustrating. Are these things really this delicate or am I just having extremely bad luck here?
If anyone has any ideas on what I could try to revive this shuffle please let me know. I really don't want to exchange it for another one with Apple because I am not sure that the replacement would last any longer than this one did.

Do you protect the Shuffle with a Sport Case when you run? I suspect the Shuffle is quite vulnerable to perspiration leaking in at the USB or headphone connections.
Regarding your problem -- have you tried turning the Shuffle OFF for five (or so) seconds, and then back ON -- that often brings my Shuffle back from the dead.

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case) then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc. It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.

I have the ipad3,and I plug my charger in to charge my ipad and it comes up with the charging battery sign charges for a few minuets and then the white apple sign loads up into the screen then my ipad goes dead again,I hope someone can help:)

When you say you tried holding both buttons, did you mean you held both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appeared, ignoring the red slider if that appears? If so, exactly what happens?
You may need to take the iPad and charger to an Apple store genius bar to be tested by the techicians.

Hi I have 1st generation ipod shuffle 512 mb, I am having problems as it is showing up fine in itues, updating and sycing fine, however once I remove the ipod (in the correct method) it is dead with no lights, music nothing - the battery indicator does not light up at all - not a thing.

I think you've hit on the answer... the battery is dead.
A refurbished 2nd Gen Shuffle is $49(taxshipping) at the online Apple Store.
They used to have 1st Gen 1GB Shuffles for $39 but seem to have sold them out, for now...

Nokia 'repairs' - N8 dead again

Hi all,
When you return your dead phone to a dealer (O2 in my case) it gets sent off for repair. Do they really repair them or just re-flash the firmware?
So far I've had 1 replacement handset and 1 'repair', but I still I can't seem to get an N8 that works for more than a few weeks before it totally dies (even 3 fingered salute doesn't do anything).
It died again today - guess I'll be back at the O2 shop tomorrow. Is there anything I can do to ensure they do more than just re-flash the firmware?

Before you send in for repair, do the following:
1) Dial *#06# and get the IMEI number.
2) Loosen the Torx screw on either side just slightly. And pick a position to remember, like one of the 6 pointed legs to point straight up or split.
When you get the phone back, if the IMEI number is different, then you got a replacement phone.
If the Torx screws are still loose the way you did them, then they simply reflashed the phone.
Hope this helps you in determining if O2 is doing anything at all.

Shuffle working again, no thanks to Apple !!

I waited for a fix from Apple as long as I could but it hasn't happened so I followed a lot of advice on this forum to fix it myself.
I had the same issue as everyone else. After upgrading to iTunes5 and Updater version 9-23-05 my Windows PC would no longer recognize my Shuffle and I couldn't download any new music to it. I didn't have any battery issues or playing music issues.
My solution was to revert back to an older updater version. In my case, I went back to 3-23-05, which is the version on my CD from Apple.
Run the remove programs in Windows and remove the Ipod updater software. Then, go into Windows Explorer and delete the Ipod folder. Reboot PC. Load an older version of updater software. Connect your shuffle and select format. All music will be lost. I hated to do this because I ran the risk of wiping my shuffle and if this didn't fix it i would be mad. Well, it worked. After running the format command, I ran the update to install the 3-23-05 load. All's well, the updater responded to version 1.1 and indicated i had 990Mb of space so I knew things were looking up. I brought up iTunes5 and am able to transfer music again!
Bottom line, I will be delaying my Nano purchase to see how Apple formally responds to this issue. I'm just amazed at the lack of a response from Apple seeing how many people are affected and knowing the update software is the culprit. I will not download any more music from iTunes until Apple responds and I will not be updating to any other Apple software until this is resolved.

I too seem to have no problem with contacts, calendar, etc. It's the docs that are problems. One post I saw on here implied that if you have a copy of a file on your computer, and you download from icloud, you should not save it as the computer based file. until you've opened it and it is correct. That makes sense even if iCloud gets fixed. I was fortunate that the doc I had gottenf rom the cloud was in my downloads folder. Makes me think that perhaps, I had beenw orking on the downloaded doc all the time and the one on the computer was not changed. That is part of the confusion. There are no work flow instructions for the cloud. One has to figure it out for one's self. Of course, one of the things I do not understand is why the automatic synching cannot be worked out for the MAC as well as iOS devices. But then what would assure the docs would not get corrupted to unusable status?

MobileMe Mail Notifications on iPhone DEAD again!

had about a week of NO notifications of new mobileme email on my iphone (had to open mail and update to even see if there were new messages). It cleared up for about a week, and now today it is broken again.
Really a shame how google push notifications are reliable, update instantly, and are more stable than APPLE's OWN mail product on its own platform.

On main screen select SETTINGS icon (Looks like a gear)- , page down to SOUNDS and select it, page down to NEW MAIL, then set the "ring tone". the unfortunate thing with iphone is you cannot adjust volumes of the various settings (mail, ringtone, text, etc) independently- REALLY aggravating if you need to hear phone call in the night- but do not want to hear 53 junk emails coming to the phone!!

M:Vision Radio is DEAD AGAIN!!! I think Creative has a bigger problem on their hands

I got my first Vision in MARCH it worked well then after 2 weeks the radio stopped working all I got was static; then a couple weks later I had a accident with the Vision and it broke and in early MAY I went to Circuit City and got another one. It worked fine and then almost 3 weeks after that the radio stoped working again. All I get now is static, now this can't be a simple coincidence and from reading other people posts in the forum they're havng the same exact proplems. I think there is a defect in the Vision M radio because I can't seem to figure out what the problem is...Now what the **bleep** should I do, because the main reason why I got this thing is because is because of the radio... Should I return it to the store and get another one...

ISight Mysteriously Came to Life but its Dead Again

I have a MacBook that is now about three weeks old. The ISIght has never worked and usually I get no green light and all programs that use it say thewre is no camera attached. I have spoken to Tech Support who went thorugh all the possible fixes (resetting PRAM, etc) and nothing works and told me I will have to return the unit for service (I couldn't exchange it because I bought it one the road.)
I was planning to do so some time soon but last night, after installing Parallels and fooling around with a USB scanner in XP, I noticed that the ISight was listed in the USB device tree under Parallels and sure enought the camera was working fine and I was able to take photos.
Today, it is gone again like before. Anybody have any ideas

This may be just a voodoo response, but it worked for me. Apparently, iSight is controlled by the extension /System/Library/Extensions/Apple_iSight.kext. My iSight wasn't working today (although, weirdly, the green light was on), so I removed the file Apple_iSight.kext from the Extensions folder (which required my first giving myself the appropriate permission to read and write to it) and stuck the file onto my desktop. Then I rebooted the MacBook. Then I tried to open an iSight application, which, naturally didn't work (although the green light was still on). Then I put Apple_iSight.kext back into the Extensions folder and rebooted. Surprise! The green light was now off! I opened up Photo Booth and Quicktime and iSight was working perfectly, as if nothing had ever happened!
Go figure!

This could get very expensive! I sent my Ipod in on November 4th 2005, paid the $32 in handling. It was repaired (Would not boot up/turn on even after doing the five R's). Returned to me November 9th in working order. I loaded songs, plugged the unit into the car adpater to play over vehicles FM Stereo system and it went dead! Won't turn on/boot up or even be identified by the ITUNES softaware on computer.
Ugh. Is there a warranty on the service? I cant find anytning on this website in under forty five minutes of reading, so I thought I would ask here for direction on seeking out whether the service I recieved in November is warranteed, or do I pay another $32 this month for shipping and handling?

HD dead - again in 3 months?!?! Or is it logic board problem

I purchased my iBook about 1.5 years ago. In July I had to replace the HD. The Apple Store took care of it. Now just 3 short months later, it appears to be having a similar problem. I'm very frustrated with this!
Last night it froze up while on the internet. I ended up doing a force shutdown - nothing else worked). It restarted with the flashing question mark folder. I've tried several things, but it's sure looking like the HD again. Hopefully someone can suggest something I haven't tried yet. In general, whatever I've tried, the HD doesn't seem to be located - %@#@?*.
Here's what what I've tried today:
1) Boot from install disk (to repair permissions, etc, but didn't locate HD)
2) Disk Warrior - didn't locate HD
3)Reset PRAM
4) Startup manager
5) Safe mode
6) Seems like I've tried more than that, but at this point I've lost track....
I haven't reset the PMU....at this point, would it make a difference?
Again, I'm VERY frustrated that this is happening again. The iBook is great, but so far it's required a lot more TLC than my Windows PC (it pains me to say that).
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

One thread that seems to be quite common is that once you have sent your laptop to have it repaired, it is likely to fail again. It is as though either the total problem is not fixed properly or the job is done in a manner that will eventually cause a subsequent failure, such as leaving out screws, pinching or improperly routing cables, poorly connected connectors, inadequate application of heatsink compounds etc.
My suggestion would be to take it apart your self and see what there is to see. Maybe your hard drive cable is damaged. Maybe it was never put on securely when the drive was replaced.

E75 dead again 3rd time

Hi everybody!
This is the 3rd time I'm facing the same problem in 6 months. ( I don't use any external applications apart from opera mini)
My device shows offline even if I keep it in general or any other mode.
No network shown ( maybe due to being offline)
Unable to access most of the applications ( eg. camera, email, personalize profiles etc.)
Have already tried restoring factory settings.
I'm really tired to take this device again to the nokia care!

Seems like no problem with my RAM right? (glad to know)
I also PRAM and the screen stuck at blue screen with "Starting Mac OS X" interface. So I restarted my iMac by holding 'Option' key to choose my external HD as startup disk instead.
Shall I reformat? Maybe the Java application having conflict with my other 3rd party softwares e.g. CS3 and etc? I shall reformat and reinstall every softwares except the Java from Apple site and see how it goes?
