Shuffle feature on iTunes

The "shuffle" feature on iTunes was stopped operating, including on the Party Shuffle playlist.
Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks.

o matter what playlist I want placed in the Party Shuffle's "Source", it always defaults to the Music section, at the top, under the Library.
Not sure what you mean.
If you select *Party Shuffle*, then select a playlist as the Source, iTunes goes back to Music under Library and does not display the Party Shuffle any more?
In addition, when I check "Shuffle" under the "Control" tab
What "Control" tab?
for any playlist, it won't "shuffule the shuffle" if I highlight the "number" column on the far left. Is this normal? If any other column is highlighted, the shuffle control works.
If you are sorting on the very first column, the songs are displayed in the order they are shuffled and will play in that order. If you turn shuffle on and off, you will see the songs change the order in which they are displayed (they get shuffled)
If you select any other column, the songs are sorted by that column but will play shuffled so the playlist jumps around.

  • Cannot turn off shuffle feature of iTunes on iPad mini

Can anyone please tell me how to turn off the shuffle feature in iTunes? I don't know how it turned itself on, but seems to have appeared after the latest operating system update. The word "shuffle" is in red font and only toggles between "shuffle" and "shuffle all". The crossed arrows are grey and don't respond to any stimulus. Thank you.

There does not appear to ba a facilty for this on the iPad. However there are a number of apps that will allow you to create and play video playlists. Try VP Lite which is free.

  • Where is Shuffle feature in Itunes 11 or how do I downgrade back to Itunes 10?

Upgraded to Itunes 11 and now the SHUFFLE feature won't work with my playlists.  How to I get it to work or how do I downgrade to earlier version of Itunes.  Not happy with Apple right now...  Any help is much appreciated!

Select (highlight) the chosen Playlist and click on the Shuffle icon:
and a random song from that Playlist begins playing, and the Shuffle icon in the Now Playing window (which up until then had been blank) will be in blue:
    and if you click on the Next list, you will see that the next songs to play are a shuffled set from that Playlist;

  • Problems with the shuffle feature in itunes.

When I first bought my nano I would create playlists in itunes and turn the shuffle on there. You would see on the screen that the playlist was shuffled, and it would be when you went to use the ipod. After an update though I would do the same thing and the itunes screen shows it shuffling but the ipod plays the songs in alphabetical order still. Even when I plug the nano back in to my computer the itunes still show's it as shuffling. my software is the most up to date version.
    anyone else having this problem?

To shuffle a playlist on an iPod, in the settings menu, make sure that shuffle is set to "songs". Then select any playlist, then press play (not select). The songs within that playlist will be shuffled.

  • ITunes Party Shuffle feature not responding

The Party Shuffle feature in iTunes will not respond to any changes I try to make. I tried reinstalling iTunes which did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Select the Party shuffle.
Select all the songs in the Party shuffle and delete them.

  • HT1349 I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and now I cannot play the songs in order, they skip around randomly. The shuffle feature is off. All I really want to do is play an album from start to finish.

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and now I cannot play the songs in order. It will skip around or just stop playing the song currently playing when it is finished. I just want to play an album from start to finish. The shuffle feature is turned off.

It is working now. I no longer get the message about the item not being available in the US and I can access the store.

  • ITunes playlist shuffle feature

I have always found the iTunes playlist shuffle feature fails to play all my songs and only accesses a narrow selection and then repeats thes without ever playing a broad selection of my playlist. Is there a way to overcome this?

Yes. Go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE, and set it to SONGS. Then, go back, highlight the name of your playlist and press PLAY. It will play just that playlist, and it will be shuffled.

  • Group music feature in iTunes vs shuffle play in ATV2

    Hi everyone,
I recently discovered the "group" feature in iTunes, that allows to group separete parts of a sonata or symphony, for example, in order to play them together when using the shuffle mode. All this works perfectly in iTunes (latest version).
Now, when I use the Shuffle mode in the AT2... well, the AT2 seems not recognize that some of my music is grouped. It just plays the music as if nothing was not grouped.
Maybe this is normal? Or not?
    Thanks in advance...
    Mathieu.

I'm not sure that's gonna work; I've got an old iPod 60, and I'm pretty sure you can only shuffle the main library on my iPod, not individual playlists. I have no idea why this is happening. I just opened iTunes and clicked on another playlist that was shuffled, and turned shuffle off. The songs went back to their original order. Then, I shuffled that playlist again, and the songs were placed in a random order. This problem seems to be specific to only a few playlists [naturally, the ones I want to shuffle]. Any ideas?

  • Using the Shuffle Feature on my ITunes

I have created several playlists and all of them work wonderfully, allowing me to shuffle within the playlist - BUT I have one play list that, for whatever reason, will not shuffle. It is one of my favorite playlists and I am getting tired of hearing the songs in the same order over & over. I tried copying all the songs out of the playlist and creating a new one but that didn't work. This play list worked fine (shuffled) in the past but suddenly has stopped working. Any suggestions?

    Hello robdaug,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions
You can enable the "skip when shuffling" feature for each song you wish not to hear while having your iPod on shuffle.
To enable it, control->click on the song you wish to skip when shuffling in iTunes and choose "Get Info" from the Shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Options tab. Make sure there is a tick mark next to "skip when shuffling." Then hit OK and sync the updated changes to your iPod.
That should do the trick for you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you use the shuffle feature within a created playlist from itunes?

Basically I would like to listen to a playlist on my ipod using the shuffle feature. I don't wish to hear the playlist in the same order everytime. Can this be done? If so, how?

Yes. Go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE, and set it to SONGS. Then, go back, highlight the name of your playlist and press PLAY. It will play just that playlist, and it will be shuffled.

  • What is wrong with the Shuffle feature???

When shuffle is on, and I have 130 songs on my phone, it should never, ever play the same song twice, until it has cycled through them all. You'd think this would be basic shuffle logic.
But well over 30% of the time, it replays songs it played within the last 10 songs. And yes, all my songs are set to 'White' on the little shuffle icon. None are set to blue (repeat).
Sometimes it will go about 10 songs, and then repeat just one. Then another later. The longer I listen, the more it will begin to replay a song it's already played in that listening session.
Ultimately, I believe I hit maybe 30 or 40 of the 130 total songs. I don't think I've ever branched out past this.
After driving in my car for about 40 mins, there is absolutely no reason I should ever hear another song, with 130 on the iPhone. But as each new song comes on, I have to go past 3 or 4 of them just to get to a "new" one that hasn't already played.
Can someone tell me whats up with this?
I do see something in iTunes that allows you to give songs a "Star" rating of some sort on your playlist. I believe this makes them "more" or "less" important and may increase their probability of of being played more often. If this is the case, how can I set them all to zero stars in one swoop?
    Thanks

I don't believe song ratings has anything to do with the Shuffle feature on the iPhone, or on a iPod. iTunes includes an option to play higher rated songs more often when using the Party Shuffle feature.
If a Reset has no effect, you shouldn't lose anything when Restoring your iPhone with iTunes.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone when syncing. Your iPhone's backup is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process - if any of the data stored with your iPhone's backup has changed since the last sync.
The backup stores your iPhone settings, including email accounts, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, cities tracked with the Weather widget, stocks tracked with the Stocks widget, Maps bookmarks, youtube bookmarks, recent calls, call favorites, visual voicemail, alarms, World Clock settings, and photos captured by your iPhone - but I wouldn't depend on this one.
Before restoring your iPhone, you should import any photos to your computer that are available on your iPhone that were captured by your iPhone, and then sync to update your iPhone's backup if needed.
When restoring, your iPhone is completely erased, and then the current firmware version is re-installed. After the current firmware version is re-installed, you are prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, which is the default selection. The other option is to restore your iPhone as a new iPhone, or not from your iPhone's backup. This must be followed by a sync to re-transfer the data that should remain on your computer, such as iTunes content, contact information, calendar events, bookmarks, and photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
I believe the logic and reasoning behind doing a Reset first, which doesn't affect any data or settings, is it may make a difference. It is possible to do a Restore without losing any data, which may make a difference if a Reset doesn't.

  • Shuffle feature doesn't work

I click on the shuffle icon to try to shuffle songs in a playlist and it doesn't work. I tried editing preferences but nothing changes. If I click on the header labeled name it will sort them A to Z or Z to A but not shuffle. The shuffle feature does however work only on one of my playlists and that's one that only lists the name of the song with no other info in the other columns. Am I missing something here? Why would it shuffle only one playlist? I have the latest download of iTunes software, have and Ipod 30g and windows xp software.

My Shuffle does the opposite - kind of. When in shuffle mode, all songs shuffle as they should. When in continuous mode, all songs still shuffle.
    No crashes, just always shuffling.
I used to wear it around my neck while working out and sweating profusely - which in turn, I believe, shorted some terminal out there or something.
Not sure of a fix for yours tho. Sorry. I have just learned to accept the sweet surprise of a new song each time.
BTW - what do you mean by "it crashes"? Turns off altogether?

  • Can;t get the 'Shake to Shuffle' feature to work

I bought a new 16gig blue ipod nano yesterday and its all going good except for two things.
Firstly- I cant get the 'Shake to Shuffle' feature to work. I will shake my ipod around like mad when im in shuffle mode but nothing happens!
and Secondly- I cant get the genius to work on my ipod. When im playing a song I hold down the middle button and 'Add to On The Go, Browse Album, Browse Artist and Cancel' all come up but no genius! I do not have an itunes account because I do not have a Credit Card so i cant work it on my itunes either- is that why it wont work on my ipod?
If some would could please help me out it would be much appreciated.
    Thankyou.

    1) Make sure Shake-to-shuffle is turned on in the Settings option of the iPod.
    2) Genius won't work if you haven't activated it in iTunes. You don't have to give a credit card to get an account, a debit will do just fine.
In any case, here's a link to create an account without providing bank card details:

  • Shuffle feature no longer working

Since I updated iTunes software, my shuffle feature doesn't work. If I choose a song to play, when it reaches the end it simply begins replaying the same song - endlessly. If I choose shuffle, it chooses a song at random and plays it - endlessly.
    Any ideas?

have you got the 'repeat' logo set by accident. on the left hand side the arrows which go round will be blue rather than white?

  • Shuffle feature has stopped working on MacBook

I'm using iTunes 11.1.4 on Mac BookPro to serve as digital music source for home hi-fi audio system.  I have over 300 GB of high quality files, mostly Lossless, some AIFF.  All of a sudden, the shuffle feature has stopped working.  It doesn't work in any format - regular playlist, Smart Playlist, or the entire music library.  Whether I hit the icon, or right click on the Playlist and hit "Shuffle Playlist" - nothing happens.  The only thing I can think of is that perhaps my iTunes Music file/library has become too large?  But can that really be?  Any ideas?

The songs will play shuffled but they will display in the sort order, not a shuffled order.
    Songs will display;
    Song 1
    Song 2
    Song 3
    Song 4
    Songs will play; (randomly)
    Song 2
    Song 3
    Song 1
    Song 4
I twill play sing 1, then song 49, then song 10
