Shuffle gen 1 will not be recognized by itunes

The ipod gives a message "The iPod "IPOD" cannot be used b/c it requires itunes version 5.0 or later goo to www.itunes.com... to get the latest version of iTunes or install iTunes fro mteh CD that came with your ipod.
I did install the CD that came with it, I downloaded the latest update 7.1 from the site, it keeps saying the same thing.
I thinking perhaps I should reset the ipod to the factory setting? The short orange lights it flashes when plugged in, I believe indicate it is being used as a memory disk... Or did I misread?

In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod should appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  It does not appear there, when you connect the nano?
If not...
it says it detects an ipod
Where does it say the iPod is detected?

What a pain -on a mac- never had aproblem- loaded a new shuffle with music - will not let me sync itunes store bought songs- will not let me authorize the computer. I have a ipod as well. Is this a block when loading a second device? OR?

In iTunes, do Store->View my AppleID
    Click "Deuthorize ALL"
Then, on any computers you still have, do Store->Authorize this computer.  If there are less than 5, you will have no problem.
You can only do "deauthorize all" once a year, so in the future, if you ever throw a computer away, remember do to "Store->Deauthorize this computer" first.

  • New Nano will not be recognized by Itunes

My Nano is new (Christmas) and Windows XP will connect, but the connection will not show up in Itunes. We have the lastest version of Itunes. It does recognize my dad's Nano. Please reply to [email protected] since I have trouble on these forums.
    Thanks

It is unlikely that two consecutive iPods have the same problem, so let's assume there is nothing wrong with the iPod for now.  There is no systemic problem with iPod nano 7th gen and iTunes 12.  Even my ancient 3rd gen iPod "classic" from 2003 works fine with iTunes 12 (and the latest OS X).
Since your other devices connect to iTunes, your OS and iTunes installation seem to be fine.
Does the iPad or iPhone use the same docking cable (not the newer "Lightning" cable)?  You want to rule out a faulty cable as the cause.  There are separate connection points on the connector for power and data, so it is possible for it to charge from a connection, but not connect for data, due to a faulty cable.
So (if you can rule out faulty cable), that leaves a problem with the USB port.  It charges, so it seems to supply enough power.  But because it shows only the battery status icon, it's like you are connecting it to a USB power adapter; there is no data connection either to iTunes or the Mac in general.
As a test, shut down (power off) the iMac and disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs).  You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  Do this to Reset the iPod
Reset your iPod - Apple Support
Start up the Mac, run iTunes, and connect the iPod to a direct USB port, by itself.  Any difference?
If that does not help, try putting the iPod in Disk Mode
Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support
Then, connect it to the Mac and run iTunes.  Any indication in iTunes, on the Mac in general, or on the iPod's screen, that there is a data connection between iPod and computer?

Even checking my Computer for Updates (Itunes will not run if updates to my PC are needed). Help Please!

  • Ipad will not be recognized by itunes

Have tried to retore my iPad but it gets to putting the buckup on the system and freezes up.  Then iTunes will not recognize the iPad after reconnecting. All I get on the iPad is the Apple and nothing else. Tried the on/off switch and home button simultaneously many times but it does nothing any more.

  • My ipod will not be recognized by Itunes

I keep trying to put my ipod on my computer and it will not go in as a drive. The computer recognizes it as "Connor's Ipod (K:)," but Itunes will not allow it and gives me an error message sending me to this screen: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US. I have done every single step including reinstalling iTunes but the problem still persists. The error message states "An Ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall itunes, then install again." I have done every step on the page, and tried reinstalling itunes. It worked fine until I updated it to the most recent update. My brother's ipod does work however, same model(Nano 7th gen 16GB), except his is green(don't think it matters), which is odd. Please help as music is my life.

This will not necessarily work if the Device has been modified.

  • IPhone is not turning on and will not be recognized in iTunes

My screen was cracked recently, and my iPhone was left outside for 6 hours in the early morning/morning hours. (6am-11am)
Device was not rained on, however, I think the elements (humidity, heat) may have affected the phone in some way because, when I brought my phone in and tried to turn it on, it would not power on. I figured the battery was dead so I charged for two hours without touching.
No battery charge/low battery/apple logo will appear on the phone. Phone will not charge and is also unable to be recognized in iTunes after attempt at connecting to the computer. No combination of lock button/home button pressing is getting a response.
I am not really in the position to take it in to get replaced as I do not think it is under warranty, or it's possible the warranty is expired if it is.
Is there any hope, or should I start my goodbyes?

If the hard rest isn't working then it sounds like its not going to turn on. Accidently damage isn't covered in you limited hard ware warranty. The iPhone 4 and below is 149$ to replace and iPhone 4s is 199$

  • IPhone 6-Plus (8.3 IOS) will not be recognized by iTunes 12.1.2.27 on Windows 8.1. APPLE Genius appointment resolved nada. Suggestions???

    I am using:
    iPhone 6-Plus (8.3 IOS)
    iTunes 12.1.2.27
    Windows 8.1
When I upgraded this phone from Sprint, the sync was stopped by the tech and now I cannot enable wi-fi sync because the Sync now is grayed out. See image. SYNC BUTTON does not work.
I cannot get my music or tones.
Email keeps giving errors that I need to put in my passwords.
I cannot Backup my iPhone to iCloud either.
    What should I do?
How would I back up all my email contacts, text phone #s, get all of my prior apps, get all of my ringtones and music (not purchased through iTunes).... I NEED HELP!

It sounds like the driver for the iPhone wasn't installed properly after the update. Here is the article you're going to need to use: iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
It's likely that the first couple of steps aren't going to solve the problem. You're going to need to follow the steps under "Verify that the Apple Mobile USB Driver is Installed." You'll just need to re-install it.

  • IPod Touch will not be recognized in iTunes 8 on my MacPro

As the subject title suggests, I've got a problem. I've just fully Software Updated my MacPro and it has all the latest software features on it. However, when I try to connect it the USB port on the back of my Apple Cinema HD screen (connected to the MacPro), iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. I do have the latest version of iTunes as well. Although it doesn't recognize the iPod, the iPod does charge. Can anyone help?

Alright, right after posting my question I figured it out. I plugged my iPod into one of the USB ports in the front of the MacPro and it worked like a charm. Now the problem is, what is wrong with the two ports in the back of my Apple Cinema HD screen? That I can't figure out clearly. The USB connection from it to the MacPro is connected.

  • IPhone 5 will not be recognized by iTunes or charge while on but when turned off the iPhone will charge just fine but still won't sync with iTunes what should I do?

Was charging my iphone 5 for about an hour or so after charging unplugged and went to playing games phone was at 5% so I grabbed my cable and plugged it into the wall nothing happened tried three different chords and blocks and sockets afterwards I plugged my phone into the computer and it wouldn't charge or sync with iTunes it acted as if it wasn't even plugged in so I shut the phone off and though I'd give It a break and try again later. As I got ready to go to bed I though I'd try to plug it back in and see if anything happened nothing did so I just left it I went to mess with it this morning and come to find out it was at 100% I continued to mess with it and i came to the conclusion that it only charges when turned off. I can't get the phone to reset and would love to restore with iTunes if it would sync with iTunes I don't know what I need to do but really need my problem resolved since its a hassle to have to turn off my iphone in order to get it to charge

Is that a new iPhone? Bring it in to Apple for a replacement.
    But do this first:
hold the Home Button and the Power Button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything on the screen, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo appear, then let go and let it start up.
It should charge both when on and off, unless you connect throug a hub and there are current eaters also on the hub: connect directly to the usb port.
