Shuffle Is Autofilling From Non-Existent Playlist...

I have reset, restored, rebooted etcetera...
When I choose the Playlist that I want it to Autofill from, it fills from a long-gone playlist from months ago.
What's up with this... ?

These problems have happened since the 'upgrades' on iTunes and iPod - what a mess...
I deleted all of my existing playlists and then named a new playlist the same 'name' as my iPod. Put tunes in that playlist from my library, and then told iPod to autofill from that new playlist. It worked... this time anyway.

  • Can't get iTunes to Autofill from a Smart Playlist

    I think the subject line says it all: I can get iTunes to Autofill my 1GB shuffle from a manually created playlist, from the main Library, or from my Purchased Music but if I use a Smart Playlist as the source of the Autofill I get nothing but a blank stare--nothing changes--it doesn't even flinch. What am I missing?
    I have restored the shuffle using the 1.1.2 firmware update and it still doesn't work. It has been this way with every version of iTunes I've used since I got the shuffle up until the current version, iTunes 5.0. I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.4.2 with 1.25GB of RAM on a PowerBook G4
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have practically the same problem, but only with podcasts. From a smartlist having all my podcasts, autofill only puts two onto the shuffle. From a normal playlist, none. I can drag them all into the shuffle. I'm on an iBook with Panther, iTunes 6, September 2005 iPod updater.

  • I keep getting calls from non existing area codes and phone numbers.  They are never the same number twice.  How do I stop this?

    About a week ago I started getting phone calls on my cell phone from numbers that do not exist, including the area codes.  I can not report these to the Do Not Call list because the area code is non existent.  I'm getting these calls all the time now and never from the same number twice so there's no point in blocking them.  If I answer I may or may not get a person who has an accent from India so heavy that I can't understand what they are saying.  This is getting to the point where I just want to cry I'm so frustrated.  Anyone else having this issue or does anyone know how to stop it?
    Thank you

    I'm sorry that you are having all these troubles. I have sent you a private message.

    hiya!
    you currently have "automatically update selected playlists only" selected in your itunes "ipod" preferences tab, and you've deleted some of those playlists from your itunes source list.
    while the ipod is plugged in and showing up on the sourcelist, go "edit > preferences", click the ipod tab, and compare the playlists you have selected in the window below "automatically update selected playlists only" with the ones in your sourcelist. deselect any that no longer exist in the sourcelist.

  • Can AppleScript/Mail recover from non-existent email address?

    I have an AppleScript which automatically sends HTML emails after a delay of a few days from receipt of an incoming email produced by a web form. It works well except for one issue:
    The address it sends to are picked up from the web form so I have been testing failure modes for various badly formed email addresses. Most fail gracefully with NDNs except if the domain does not exist. In this case Mail opens a dialog window with "Cannot send message using server etc". This is not good for an unattended Mac automatically processing thousands of emails a day. Mail appears not to inform AppleScript of this glitch.
    Any thoughts about a solution would be appreciated.
    I only have Tiger and Leopard but this script will eventually run on a recent Mac.

    This is a style thing, but I try to write my code so it is easy to debug.
    if (do shell script "x='" & w & "';
    z=${x##*@};
    t=`dig +short ${z%>*} MX`;
    echo ${#t}") > 0 then display dialog "send"
    It is hard to debug what is being passed to Unix.
    I'd write this something like
    [[ I have not tested this ! ]]
    [ I have not taken in Hiroto's comments ]:
    -- I write the code so as to debug it.  I would not assume the statement above would work the first time.
    -- I let the log statements in the final code.  They do not do anything outside of the script editor.
    set toUnix to  "x='" & w & "';
    z=${x##*@};
    t=`dig +short ${z%>*} MX`;
    echo ${#t}"
    log "toUnix = " & toUnix
    set result to do shell toUnix
    log "result = " & result
    -- I do not understand this statement. Shoudn't we be testing for the length of result? Or not equal to null?
    if result > 0 then
      display dialog "send"

  • IPad connection to new computer. 2 options: 1) set up as new iPad, 2) restore from (non-existent) backup. Will option 1) wipe all my data, setting

    How do I connect my iPad to iTunes  on my laptop (not done so before) without losing apps, settings & data. Option 1 is the only one that I can do as there is no backup, but option 1) sounds like it will wipe everything and set iPad up as factory-fresh device?
    I need to connect to upgrade to ios8 as there is insufficient memory on the iPad to download the update files.
    Thanks
    Stephen

    It will wipe everything from your device. You can transfer any iTunes store purchases (music, apps, etc.) using the instructions in the article below. However, you need to make sure that you import your photos before doing the "Set up as New":

  • Unpairing device from non-existent computer?

    I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard, and I'd like to pair it with a new computer, the old computer having died. How can I unpair it without the original computer?

    You don't need to "unpair" it - just pair it with the new computer.

  • I can't pull music from existing playlists to create a new one with the new update.

    I can't find a way to pull music from existing playlists when I create a new one. I make new playlists everyday with my job and this makes it very time consuming for me!

    Unfortunately, you can't.  The primary address for your iCloud account must be a non-Apple email account.  The only exception to this is for former MobileMe subscribers who migrated to iCloud when MobileMe closed, which was 18 months ago.

  • Why does "autofill from playlist" not work?

    I have tried to autofill music onto my iphone from a playlist, but it will not allow me to, and gives a really unhelpful error message:
    "iTunes cannot add any songs to the iPhone “x” because no songs in the playlist “x” can be copied to this iPhone."
    I have autofilled music from the same playlist onto my phone before but this has never happened.... I have also seen this question asked before but with no answer as to why it does this or how to fix. Its really annoying and i'm pretty sick of spending hours searching for answers as to why itunes doesn't work every single time i want to put a new song on my phone. There may be a simple fix to this problem, but with absolutely no information as to why it happens it turns everything into an ordeal. nothing has changed with my phone or the itunes version since the last time i used autofill on this playlist. Another thing i have noticed is that when some music does copy over it does not retain any information regarding "skip when shuffling", so the box is always unchecked even when it is checked on itunes. I have looked for solutions to this and similar problems to no avail. I am so sick of this messing around - either use helpful error messages or fix ur frekking errors!
    The worst part is this will probably just start working again for no discernible reason, like always i will still be confused and worried about whenever this may happen again. Thanks itunes!!

    When I get the low on ink message I can usually still print, so I don't think that's the problem. Double tap the home button and see of the Printer app icon is in the recents tray. If you see the icon, hold down on the icon until it wiggles and tap the minus sign in the corner of the app to close it. Tap the home button twice.
    Then unplug your router for about 30 seconds. Disconnect it from power, don't just press a reset button if it has one. Plug it back in. Then unplug the printer from power for about 30 seconds the same way - don't just turn it off using the power switch. Plug it back in. Reboot your iPad and then try again.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How do I add multiple songs to an existing playlist from the (no longer called) Library? Highlighting multiple songs and clicking the "Add to" button will only add the with the little arrow, not all the highlighted ones!

    How do I add multiple songs to an existing playlist from the (no longer called) Library? Highlighting multiple songs and clicking the "Add to" button will only add the one with the little arrow, not all the highlighted ones! I am using the "new" iTunes.

    For the moment there isn't a way for us end-users to control what is "matched" or "uploaded." That is purely a result of Apple's server-side algorithms.
    To re-add multiple songs at once simply highlight all the songs you want to re-add, then right-click (or Control+click) the list and choose "add to iCloud."

  • How do I move a song from my iphone to an existing playlist on the iphone?

    I've posted a couple questions about playlist issues that lots of you have read, but no replies, so maybe my issue is just mine.
    That being said, I can't get playlists to transfer from my computer to my iphone.  The songs come over, not the playlists.
    I can manually create a playlist on my phone, but once I've created it, I can't add songs to it.
    Is there a way to add songs to an existing playlist without creating a new playlist on my iphone?  I've given up on figuring out what the issue is with the playlists not moving from my computer to my phone.  Like I said, the songs come over, not the playlists, so I've got the music I want, I just need to make the music I want functional and have the ability to add to the new list if I want to.
    I don't always want to suffle all.
    Any thoughts or advice?  Seems there ought to be a function / button to add sond to existing playlist in itunes.  Apple, are you listening?  Seems like an easy and useful addition.
    If this function is available, can anyone tell me how to do it!
    Many thanks!

    You just drag them and drop them where you want them to go.  If you don't want to keep the original on the source drive, you'll want to delete it afterwards.
    What do you mean "some pics don't work?"  Don't work how?

  • Scan From File aborts the calling VI if it is pointed to a non-existing file

    The Scan From File primitive throws an error dialog and aborts the VI if it's given a non-existing file instead of returning an error in its output. See attached example (8.6).

    For anyone wondering, the workaround is simply to check if the file exists before trying to read it. You can do this by calling the File/Directory Info primitive and checking the error output. Or you can use the OpenG File Exists? VI.
    I'm assuming this primitive is used rarely, if at all, which is why no one ever reported this. I had it in an old piece of temporary utility code which was moved elsewhere. It had a hardcoded path and when I ran it again a year or so after last using it, I ran into this. The only reason I used the primitive in the first place was because I wanted a quick way to save a number in a file and read it back. I never used it in any real code.
    Anna, I don't personally care, but what's the CAR number? Some people do seem to want to know them.

  • Extra monitor w/laptop in office, when out of office how do I prevent Firefox from displaying on the non-existant 2nd screen?

    When I am out of my office using my laptop, upon launching Firefox, it displays all of the tabs from the previous session on the non-existent extra monitor which is set up as a screen extention for when I am in my office. All of the other programs that I park on the extra monitor (Outlook for example) display on the laptop's screen when the extra monitor is not attached. Is this a bug? Or, must I not save my open tabs when exiting Firefox if I am going to use the laptop w/o the monitor?

    Thanks for your suggestion. I sort of came to that conclusion as I was typing the original question. However if there is anyone out there who has a solution that is not dependent on my remembering to do something before I exit Firefox, it will be welcomed.
