Shuffle is invisible to computer, but does everything else right

Recently when I plug my ipod shuffle into the computer, it charges, but the computer doesn't know it's there. Not on itunes, not on my computer, not on ipod updater.

Go to the iPod Shuffle Support Page and start working through the troubleshooting articles entitled " ...but the computer doesn't know it's there ... " or words to that effect.

  • Battery won't charge in my computer, but does in another.

my battery won't take a charge in my computer, but does if i put it into my daughter's (same computer). the battery icon doesn't recognize the adaptor when that is plugged in, so i tired in the other computer and it seems to work. the adaptor's light doesn't come on either, but does if plugged in to my daughter's macbook.
i tried resetting the SMC as recommended in a different post, but nothing changed. any ideas?

Most likely the charging circuit is damaged and/or dysfunctional. Take it to an Apple store.

  • IPod shuffle appears in My Computer but not in iTunes after upgrade to 8.1

I recently upgraded to iTunes v.8.1. Now my generation 1 Shuffle shows up in 'My Computer' but not in the iTunes 'devices'? I followed the iTunes 'help' advice - even reloading iTunes but to no avail. Anyone help please?

    hi haptic!
I had it all working fine until I formatted my pc. Now windows recognizes it but not iTunes or the updater, and I don't get any error message.
just checking. have you investigated these possibilities yet?

... another thing to check if your Device Manager is blank is this possibility:
No Items Appear in the Device Manager List When You Open It
otherwise, try steadily working through this document (apologies if you've seen this one already, but there are things in this one that you didn't explicitly mention having tried.)
EDIT: sorry, got the link wrong first time around ...

  • I have one ipod shuffle synced on my computer but it won't let me sync a second one. Device isn't recognized and device icon doesn't show up in itunes

I have one ipod shuffle synced in itunes on my computer but it won't even recognize a second ipod

Is the second iPod also a shuffle, or is it a "big" iPod?  If they are both shuffles, what are the two shuffle types?  This document shows the four types of shuffles.

  • My iphone 4S shows up on my computer but does not show up in itunes devices. I have all security

I just got an iPhone 4S and am unable to get it to show up as a device in iTunes.
I previously backed up my old iPhone on my Windows 7 PC. When I connect my 4S to the PC it is recognized by the PC but does not show up as a device in iTunes.
I have turned off all virus protection software & have tried uninstalling iTunes and all associated Apple software. I reinstalled all Apple software with no results in my 4S showing up as a device in iTunes.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Need to sync iBooks on different computer than where everything else syncs

I been syncing my iPad at a home computer and using mobile me to keep calendar, contacts etc. in sync. Everything is working perfectly.
Now in my job, I am starting to create ePubs for iBooks, and would like to sync these files with my iPad from a work computer via iTunes. I have been emailing the ePub files home, then syncing.
I sure would like to be able to just sync the iBook part at work (using the same iTune account), so that I would have immediate access to the files that I am working on. I am loosing so much production time not being able to have immediate access to the ePub and making revisions.
Is anyone else doing this? Can I attempt it and now screw everything else up?
    Thanks!

  • Hard drive doesnt show up on my computer but does on others

I have a Seagate Free Agent goflex 1.5tb Harddrive. It worked perfect for most the summer (I got it early summer). All of a sudden it stopped being read correctly. It will show up and the computer reconizes it and that it's connected. If I open the info for the Drive, it recognizes that it has stuff on it and the available capacity is correct, but none of the files are actually shown. Weirdest part is that If i plug it into other computers it reads fine and I can access all the files perfectly. As well as my other hard drives all read fine on my computer no problem but they all are different brands. So i'm wondering if there is some setting somewhere that makes the files hidden files? Any help would be appreciated. My life relies on my hard drives and so does my business.
Thanks you to anyone who can help!

  • I would like to add music from my Ipod shuffle to my new computer but my old computer is broken and cannot access it anymore

I would like to sync my ipod shuffle to my new laptop, however I do not have access to my old computer so I do not have access to the old itunes library. My ipod is charged music on it and I have it plugged into the usb cord which is plugged into my computer's usb port. I downloaded the latest version of itunes but do I have to register first? can anyone help me?

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download previous purchases from the iTunes Store Purchased screen).
However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can be used to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new computer's hard drive, drag them (or the folder containing the files) to the iTunes window, to add them to the iTunes library.

  • I have purchased an app, Jelly Defense, from the app store.  It says downloaded on the computer but does not show up at all on the iPod.  Restrictions are on and ready to receive.  The Wi Fi says it's on too

The Wi Fi is on, but the app doesn't even show up onthe device.  On my computer in purchased, it shows it's downloaded.  Now what?

The requirements for that app state that you need a 3rd-generation or 4th-generation iPod touch, with iOS 4.2 or later. Is what what you have?

  • TS1363 My old Ipod shows up in My Computer but does not show up on the iTunes page, so I don't know how to download music to the iPod.

Ever  since I did a recent update of itunes I don't see any infornation of the iPod on the itunes  page. So I can't download any of the music I have on the computer onto the ipod.

    Hello Alyssa420,
It sounds like you are trying to download your pre ordered album but are unable to download it. I would reach out to our iTunes store support by reporting a problem with the purchase with this article:

  • When my iphone says it has been backed up to a computer where does everything get stored?

I am trying to baqck up my iphone on the computer. How do i know? I am basically trying to back up only my photos and videos

The "Where are iTunes backups stored on your computer" section of http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4946 gives the file locations of backups. Note however that you won't actually see your photos and videos (or any of the other backup content) in those files as they are stored in a format that is meant to be used only to restore back to the phone in the event of a problem.
For photos and videos, in addition to doing a backup it is a good idea to import them to a computer where you can actually see them and know that you have a good second copy. Instructions for doing that are at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083

  • Help!  My computer turns on, but does nothing else!!!!

When I turn my computer on, the screen lights up and a folder with a question mark appears. Nothing else happens and after a while it shuts down. My computer is totally charged and I've tried taking out the battery, turning it on and off, restarting, etc. Nothing works! Does any one know what the icon means/how to fix it?
    Thanks

This is the issue your are experiencing:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58042
    Try this:
    1) hold down c key with disc one in the drive
    2)select language
3)Click on utilites in top menu bar > select disk utility
If you see your hard drive in there, it will most likely say "xx GB FUJITSU ...", then go back to the OS X installer by quitting disc utility and follow the rest of these instructions. If you don't see a hard drive then most likely your drive has failed, take it to your nearest apple store. Make an appointment with the genius bar before your arrive!!!!! http://www.apple.com/retail.
    4) Select Archive and Install when you get the screen that has a box named "options". Selecting this will save your user's data, you may need to reinstall third party applications after this ( ie. office, photoshop, etc. )
    Hope this helps.

  • SD card recognized by computer but does not appear on desktop

Three SD cards used in a Nikon camera and formatted in the camera. One card shows up on the desktop and files are accessible. The other two show up on the disk utility with accurate sizes and amount of card memory used but show zero files and do not show up on the desktop. All three cards show on the desktop of my iBook G4 with a card reader and have files that can be copied and deleted. All three cards can be erased by Disk Utility on the MacBook Pro. All three are formated MS-DOS, either FAT16 or FAT32. It does not matter if I use a card reader in the USB port or the SD card slot.

Thank you Niel, for the interest. Have been busy working through the list of to do. It did not show in the General tab. I clicked that box a few times and it removed those remaining ones and returned them, when ticked again. In Disk Utlil it shows and I could get it mounted, but still it did not appear on the Desktop, even after restarting a couple of times.
So using Applescript and following Pink Mutant Wes. I put the name of the drive in "500" and clicked the run. As yet it still has not appeared on the Desk, but I was at some stage at least able to open it, from Disk Util with the magic mouse and read what was on the drive. Will see how I get on tomorrow with this, as sleep and dreams are beaconing. Dave
