Shuffle is shuffling my brain! Sorry for talking too much...

Each time I plug my shuffle in, it autoupdates right? So I uncheck the AutoUpdate... here's what happens:
Some of my music, I get from burned CDs... if iTunes doesn't detect those songs (i.e. I didn't put the CD in or the files aren't saved on the computer), it updates and erases the shuffle counterparts (the music on the shuffle playlist have !'s before the names). The problem is, my shuffle songs don't come from one CD only.
Another question is how to load music from my friend's computer-without-iTunes without:
1.) having to go through the hassle of transfering those files to my computer
2.) losing my shuffle songs that aren't in his/her computer
(of course I will have to install iTunes there)
The reason for the latter is that recently, my computer failed on me, I can't access anything. But I still want to add more music because I haven't quite filled up the 512MBs. I still charge it through the USB port, though it never reaches green... still flashing amber even after I slept all through the night. (I just turn my PC on, it just stays in the boot screen since it doesn't have any HD... so far no problems happened)
Oh, and can I use it as a storage device for both Windows and Apple at the same time without affecting the songs inside?
Other than this, it's working fine! Aside from the little static on the left earphone (which, I think came from turning the volume WAAAAAY up), I thank Apple for making such amazing products! Kudos! .... only I hope it were much, much cheaper....

Actually, the problem is more likely the songs are set to Skip when shuffling.
Select all the songs, right click - get info.
Click the Options tab.
Check Skip when shuffling and set it to No.

    It sounds like you have a program accessing data directly from a memory stick. A much better procedure is to copy the data to the hard disk and then let the program work on it there. If you have a program crash the original data is still safe on the memory stick. When you have finished working with the data on the hard disk, only then copy the data back to the memory stick.

  • Getting 1/2 the speed I'm paying for & in too much pain to be on phone for hours--HELP

    My children do a Cyber school and have been getting disconnected from class for months now.  I'm also having losing the internet at random times on my desktop. A friend told me how to check my speed (since I know so little about computers) and I found out I'm only getting 1/2 the speeds I'm paying for!!!!  I've called Verizon customer service in WHATEVER COUNTRY 6 times now but I have to hang up after any longer than 35 minutes because of chronic pain!  Tech makes me turn off my router, check my speed, (when I know they can see the speed right in front of them, after 1 rep told me the speed without my asking) and computer share.   Nothing gets resolved, I NEVER GET THE CALL FROM A SUPERVISOR THAT WAS PROMISED, and Verizon closes out the problem after 72 hours!!  Seems  like EVERYONE ELSE HERE GETS THE SAME RUNAROUND AND LACK OF RESPECT!!  One billing person offered me a refund for the difference in speed for only 1 month and offered me to upgrade!!  I can't afford to upgrade and the Cyber will work if I would only get the speed I had when 1 started with Verizon in 2002!  I said UNACCEPTABLE and am having to call back once a week (because that's all I can handle)  to try to get a Supervisor!  Can anyone tell me how to get help without the exhaustion of being on the phone forever?! 
         All I know is I'm paying for 1.1-3 mbps but only getting .439-.864mbps download and 0.08-0.09 upload speeds and I have a Westfall 327W 8 year old modem.

    From reading on the internet, it appears that when there is a spike in memory usage, AVG "interprets" that as a memory leak, possibly caused by malware. AVG could be incorrect concerning that assumption. Maybe they are being a bit too conservative about memory usage; just my opinion.

    It  sounds as though you simply turned on spoken alerts. You can turn them off in:
    System Preferences -> Speech -> Text to Speech -> Turn off "Announce when alerts are displayed"
    Since you mention only this one specific instance of battery life, though, is it possible an AppleScript is involved? Or do you hear other types of alerts spoken as well?

  • I own an iPod shuffle (4th generation). For some reason, the only music that will sync to my iPod are the songs I purchased off of iTunes. (Most of my music is copied off my CD's)

    I often use my shuffle while exercising, cleaning, and just generally going about my day. Never once has it come unclipped exept for when I got the earbud cord caught on something and got said earbuds yanked out of my ears. I have permanently solved that problem by simply running the cord under my shirt. Works like a charm! I can't answer you about the nano, though I'd say it has a higher likelihood of coming off as it is a bit heavier.

    As per my understanding only a standard Dat file can be compared with one single dat file.Because Eacg dat file will be containing its own values. So multiple files cannot be compared.
    Am assuming dat files containing time(s) and acceleration values(g). G value for each file differs.

    I'm still not sure I follow you.  When you say "Dat" file, do you mean the DIAdem 8.x standard file with the *.dat header and usuall a *.r64 binary file or two that it references, or do you mean some other specific data file with the extension *.dat or do you just mean a generic data file?
    DIAdem can certainly load multiple files into the Data Portal at the same time, so you must be referring to either a limitation of the "*.Dat" file you're talking about or correcting yourself that all the data you want to compare turns out to be in one "Dat" file.

    Do you think would be a good idea to acquire a pair of KRK VTX8 Studio Monitors (http://www.krksys.com/product_vxt.php) to use them connected to a mac Pro through a Matrox Mxo2 (http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo2/) for a video oditing station? Or maybe VTX6 or VTX4 would be better?
    My studio is 4x3 meters.
    Am I risking to make my step longer then my leg? To do too much?

    KRK monitors generally have a pretty good reputation. The VXT line seems to be their mid-price line between the Expose and the Rokit series. I'm more familiar with the discontinued V series, the KRK V6 was a good near-field monitor in its price range.
    I'm sure they'd be acceptable for an editing situation, but I'd question the 8" for such a small room. You might be better served with the 6" or even the 4s.

    I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
    I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download.  I redownloaded everything and reinstalled.  I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work.  I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year.  Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years.  I think I might need a new CODEC?   I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely different

    I finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted".  I just deleted the picture and it started working.
    I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe .  Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old  but they still don't support it on errors.  Only install errors!
    I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now.  I will find something else next time!

    Like others my problem was Adobe Reader 8.1.2 died terribly and with a buggy stench with the following error:

    RESOLUTION ON XP SP2
    1. Control Panel, Users
    2. Create a new user account NewUser (for example)
    3. Start, Log Off
    4. Switch Users to the NewUser
    5. Wait the mini eternity for new user to be set up.
    6. Start Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 and you will see a red splash screen along with some license updating things.
    7. Adobe 8.1.2 now starts fine under NewUser
    8. Switch back to your regular user name. Start, Log off, Switch Users
    Now a note to Adobe. Do you folks really have to make this such a frickin pain to get working? Do you at Acrobat have any idea of how much time we users blow and how much of our lives pass by while we try to re-download and work with this product? You are directly responsible for a small slow down in the world economy by this. Get the hint.... create an 8.1.3 that omits the secret code steps above.
    The only thing that kept my sanity during this were nice songs on channel 86 on SIRIUS. Thank you SIRIUS.

    Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
    1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
    2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
    3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
    4. I then rebooted my PC
    5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
    It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back!

    The problem is with the current version of icuuc40.dll .
    Download the zip folder and extract icuuc40.dll from it.
    When you open the zip folder the file is in icu\bin.
    You need to replace your old version of icuuc40.dll with this one.
    The file is in Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application support.
