Shuffle & Mini Problems

I already had a Shuffle set-up with i-tunes - recently bought a ipod mini and loaded onto windows with the cd but it seems to have overwritten the program and doesn't now recognise the shuffle.
Can you have 2 units reading from one itunes ? If so how do you do it ?
If not how do I set up a 2nd itunes ?
Any help much appreciated

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Yes, of course it is possible to have more than 1 iPod with the same iTunes. I use 3 with mine.
Download the latest version of iTunes, and install it. Then if all goes well both of your iPods should be recognized when you plug them in, one by one.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

• IPod Mini Problems Please Help

This is my second post of the type... no one replied to that so im hoping someone could help me.
Problems:
-Wont Update or Load Songs
-It starts loading, gets to around the 5th song (out of well over 600) and says "Ipod Update Complete, OK To Disconnect" though nothing is on the iPod.
-Occasionally wont restore to factory settings.
Okay, before you suggest the five R's, ill note that ive put several MONTHS into this, and ive tried them well over 20 times in order.
Things Tried
-5 R's Repeatedly (as noted above)
-updating on a friends computer (several times with no luck, same problems)
-requested help over the phone
-The number i called was the Apple US Help Line, which the person helped me for about an hour before he said he did not know what was up, and transfered me to the Canadian help line, where they demanded a large sum for help, which i could not pay (under 18).
-When i first noticed the problems, I sent it in (around the end of december)and problems continued upon arrival of the new mini.
I will also note that my sisters iPod Nano works perfectly fine, no problems, as well as my friends iPods adding songs from my computer.
Please please help... im currently resorting to a crappy CD player that skips for my music... and have been... its starting to break me inside.
Thank you,
Milan

Natalie,
If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes, right click on the iPod in iTunes, select options and if you have a check mark in the box marked “enable disk use”, remove it and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.
For the iPod to automatically open iTunes, you have to have "open iTunes when this iPod is attached" checked.
Go to edit/preferences/iPod to do this.
If you prefer to keep the iPod set to manual transfer, look at this. In fact, the whole tutorial is a must read.

• Mac Mini problems

I received my Mac Mini yesterday and have come across a host of problems. Some are probably due to my setup, while others are probably due to the Mac itself. I'd appreciate help in solving some of these.
In order of "most important" to "least important":
1.) I'm trying to hook the Mini to a Yamaha receiver (http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/av/libimage/rxv2500/rxv2500rtl.jpg). Previously, I had hooked my PC media center computer into the orange DVD coaxial digital input jack in the lower left. The other end is a mini plug (which fits both in my old sound card and the Mini). I tried hooking the Mini up this way and the Audio Output preference panel claims I plugged in a "Line Out", not a "Digital Output". I can't get the Mac to recognize it as a digital connection -- I get no sound. Keep in mind this receiver can pretty much play anything thrown at it (PCM, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, THX, etc). Am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy a cable with Toslink (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=TA9 68LL/A)?
2.) My goal of this setup is to take the movies I own and rip them to a "DVD jukebox" (a server I have in another room). Previously I was able to leave the ripped DVDs as "VIDEO_TS" folders on the hard drive, but Front Row doesn't like that. I've tried Handbrake a couple of times and the results aren't great (choppy video). Is there a guide to what settings are best for ripping DVDs to use in Front Row?
3.) Along that vein, I'm noticing Front Row is displaying my 4:3 videos in their original aspect ratio, rather than stretching them out to fill the widescreen. Is there a way to set this? (I noticed in the DVD player there's a video zoom option, but I don't see it in Front Row). My TV is a 4:3 HDTV, and the Mac Mini is displaying the desktop in 16:9 with black bars on the top and bottom. When it displays a 4:3 movie, it then puts black bars on the left and right. The video takes up 1/4 of the screen in the dead center -- it's like watching a postage stamp (I'm thinking of just dropping the resolution to 640:480 so it fills the screen).
4.) The range on the Bluetooth has been... not great. I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and mouse so I could sit on my couch and use the machine (similar to my old setup), but if I go farther than about 5 feet from the Mac Mini the mouse starts bouncing around the screen and occasionally gets disconnected. I tried a different wireless mouse and keyboard and got the same results. Bluetooth usually has a range much farther than 5 feet, so this is kind of disappointing. Is everyone else experiencing this?
Mac Mini (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Chris,
You'll probably get a whole lot better responses and less chatter by posting each question separately, but we're here, so let's dig a bit on some:
1) No idea - it should just work. Are you sure you gently but firmly inserted the cable in both ends? Better to wait for someone with toslink experience on this one.
2) Not sure what forum this is best for - third party software questions? In general - you get better video settings by telling handbrake (or any codec) to not compress so much. Try giving it two passes to compress and allowing more data on the output end. There are lots of tutorials online
http://handbrake.m0k.org/documentation.php
3) Front Row is really basic - there is no user interface yet to even change preferences and looking at the property list it saves, there appears to be nothing to make that sort of control from the app. Best to re-encode your movies to signal the correct aspect ratio if you want to change how they play by default.
4) This may be the hardest to change since interference is most likely the issue and very hard to track (minute changes can make a big difference - not to mention that most of us fly blind while determining signal strength and trying to guess if there is interference or not). Try turning off other things that use that frequency. (Airport and home phones that use 2.4GHz are the worst typical offenders.) You might have luck having only air between you on the couch and the mini - but another technology might be needed if the interference is coming from a neighbor with a really powerful phone or a leaky microwave. There is no way a small mouse is going to out gun one of them...

• Ipod Shuffle BIG PROBLEM

I just bought my ipod shuffle one week ago, everything was fine but i tried to update it and the system frooze up. Now i cannot format it when i try i get the message cannot mount ipod, i cannot restore it neither and the blinking lights report an error and that the ipod must be formated.
p.s and when i try to safely remove the ipod i get the message "the generic device cannot be stoped bla bla"
this ipod only worked for about 2 days .. help me out

I'm having trouble with my Ipod shuffle 2nd gen.
Every time I try to update it, it won't update. And
when I try to charge it, it will only charge when I'm
not using Itunes. I really need my shuffle right now
this month because I'm going on important trips and I
don't mind listening to the same songs I already have
on it but I really would like to have this problem
fixed. I barerly got my shuffle 2 months ago, is
there anyways I can return it for another one?!
Please help!
Several things:
1. Why does it matter if your shuffle charges only when not using iTunes? Is it because you think so, or does it have to do with blinking versus continuous orange LED. Shuffle charges either way...
2. YOu can get an external AC->USB Power Adapter (Apple sells one)

• IPod Shuffle mount problem in 10.4.3 ??

My iPod Shuffle was last updated on my girlfriends iBook (10.4.2), when I try to mount it on my PowerBook (10.4.3) the yellow lamp just blinks, but it dosn´t show i finder, iTunes or system.log
The system update to 10.4.3 is the only diference from when it worked, I wonder if that is the problem.

The problem was "solved" when shortly after the iPod stopped the charging and when the power was used up, died completly.
So now its back in the shop... ill properly get a new one.

• IPod shuffle and problem with Audible files

I just fought for about 8 hours with my new Shuffle because it would not play my Audible files even though I read everything available about how to do it correctly and I updated/reset/upgraded/reinstalled/redid everything repeatedly and was about to send it back for an exchange.
Whenever I tried to play an Audible file, the Shuffle would just die and then the (newly charged) battery would instantly drain to nothing and I'd have to recharge it before trying it all again. (I was NOT trying to play the files in shuffle mode, and I was NOT trying to play Audible type 1 files, so this was not the problem. Also, the Audible files played just fine in iTunes.)
The problem was that I had downloaded the audiobook files from Audible when I bought them, and then had stored them on a CD. Then, when it was time to put the files on the Shuffle, I just pulled them off the CD back into iTunes. I did this, of course, because I didn't want those large audiobook files stored on my hard drive.
I eventually tried downloading FRESH FILES from Audible, instead of using the files I had stored on CD. The Shuffle was able to play these FRESH, NEWLY DOWNLOADED FILES from Audible.
Seems like there'd be some mention of this somewhere in all of the troubleshooting guides I've been through. What a pain.

Lawrence,
Why don't you buy the audiobooks from Audible and then archive them until you want to download and listen to them. Then once you've listened you can delete them from your iTunes Library and no hard disk space is needlessly occupied on your machine. And, if you want the book again in the future, just download it again -- the download time is probably considerably less than the time you take burning CDs, plus you save the cost of the CDs, plus the "fresh" downloads work on your Shuffle and the CDs don't.

• Ipod Shuffle STRANGE problem

Hi:
There is something strange with my shuffle, the first time when I bought it apparently it was working fine on my computer, but later when I was trying to add more music, I began to have problems. First, there was an orange flashing light on it and Windows XP not recognize it; even it does not appear on iTunes v4.9 app.
I was reviewing some articles & discussion messages about the problem but Apple's support says "you are trying to connect Ipod Shuffle on a non high-powered USB port", but the question is where can I buy a high-powered USB port for connect on my computer and solve my problem ?.
Thanks in advance

If you wnat a powered usb port then all you need is a powered usb hub, depends where abouts you are in the world on where to purchase one

• Ipod Shuffle Restore problem

I was trying to add songs to my ipod shuffle today. but it told me to restore it as it is currupt; and so I did. However, when I clicked restore on itunes 7.0.2, the progress bar began to move; but i waited for over 2 hours, and it still didnt complete.
I could still listen to the music on my ipod as well as carry everyday tasks with it. But my computer refused to restore it.
p.s. it didnt show the ipod in windows explorer nor in itunes, only in device manager. I fixed this by using the "Safetly Remove Hardware" tool, then replugging it in.
Also when using the ipod software to update my ipod, it crashed.
I'd suspect it as an usb fault, but im not sure.
Please help me solve this problem, thanks in advance!

after my 20G crashed a co worker loaned me his shuffle to hold me over until I made a new purchase. It seems like every time you upgrade in ITunes it creates problems. I have experienced mutiple problems with this guys Shuffle (corrupt messages, Ipod not recognized in USB). After several restores on another PC I was able to load my music again only to not have all the songs play on the shuffle. When docked, I can see them but they won't play. I have restored, deleted, reloaded everything. I don't know what else to do.
The problem seems to be with purchased songs only.
I find the docking to a new pc helps with the restoring issue. Once back to the factory settings, try docking to pc with Itunes library and see what happens.
If anyone can weigh in on my issue, I would appreciate the help.
I can't live without my music!!

• Ipod Shuffle v2 problem

Hey, as my name already implicates, i'm a total noob when it comes to apples and well some weeks i ago i decided to jump on the bandwagon and order an ipod shuffle v2, yesterday i got it.
All stoked about the fact i'm gonna rock with my new ipod i put it in after actually reading the entire userguide.
totally confident on what to do i plug it in, start itunes and what an anticlimax..
my ipod does not work!
i get the message my ipod has been damaged and i need to restore it,
i do this over a couple of times,(trying it at all my hubs and ubs ports, several times each port/hub)
the message keeps poppin" up and i decide to go back to the store, assuming my ipod really was damaged.
so today at the store, the guy takes a look at it, (i took a printscreen picture of the error with me) and said he would try if the ipod really was defected, and that i should get a new one when it wouldn't work over there ever.
after half an hour he gets back, big smile on his face, the ipod did work for him, and to prove it, he had put music on it.
So i get home, assuming he had updated the software or something like that, i don't know.
I plug in again, also according to the way discribed in the userguide.
And i get the same problem, AGAIN!
the guy from the store also said there was one weird thing about my screenshot, it had a normal ipod"logo" on it, and not the shuffle "logo" if you want, i can show you the screenshot, i only don't have it in english, sorry.
screenshot >>
so, i hope someone could help me out!
thanks!

• IPod Shuffle - strange problem HELP!!!!

Hello,
few days ago my iPod shuffle suddenly stopped playing. In the first place I thought it was a battery. But after over a 8hrs of charging, restoring software etc. it looks like that: after sliding the button into one of the two play modes only the battery led lights up green, but the bigger led in the front doesn't give any sign of life.
It doesn't react to pressing Play/Pause button, once it did actually play, but for mayba a quather of second. Other time - i saw a green and orange light blinking vely dimmly for about 0.5 seconds and then nothing happened.
What could be the problem?
Best regards

If you wnat a powered usb port then all you need is a powered usb hub, depends where abouts you are in the world on where to purchase one

• Please help!  Major and odd mini problems

I really am begging here. Traditionally a pc/windows girl (out of sheer ignorance only) I bought my mini in November 05. Have had problems with it since day one but assumed they were of my own creation due to pc/mac switch. Over time, the problems that were on my end have largely disappeared while others worsened. Because the remainder are inconsistent, I have been unable to get proper diagnosis from repair people as 1) unit usually doesn't act up in their presence, and 2) obvious issues seem to have been ruled out. I am pretty much at my wits end and about to throw in the perverbial towel. After reading through some of the excellent suggestions you brilliant folks have graciously given others before me, I thought i'd run this past you...
mini is set up to access cable internet wirelessly through airport extreme. Mini is in bedroom about 15 feet from airport. Airport is in livingroom with remainder of media setup. Mini sits flat onmy hardtop desk with nothing on top of it.
Original and main issues surrounded the monitor ( 14" Flatscreen ProView 468) intermittently cutting off for a few seconds/ minutes and cutting back on, programs not seeming to operate the way they should, trouble opening files and programs, etc. and most importantly, a consistently slow internet connection taht often simply dropped out altogether for brief and also extended periods.
I thought the internet connectivity issue was the cable company's fault but have recently borrowed friends powerbook and it experiences no issues at all.
As well, have replaced cable modem, ethernet cable etc to no avail. Signal strength according to cable co. is top notch. A friend recently gave me a new larger monitor (17" flat screen hp pavilion f1703) and once connected I noticed that most of my system issues seemed to disappear. The monitor stopped shutting off, the internet connection was consistent and oh-so-fast, and programs were responsive and functional. I googled a bit to discover that some folks have had monitor incompatibility problems with the mini. I began to feel I was amidst a breakthrough- until about a week later I lost internet capabilities altogether. Ruled out it being a cable company or airport extreme issue as the aforementioned powerbook was able to access network and go online as normal.
When the internet connection is unavailable, the diagnostics would show connection to the airport and that I was online via the airport - yet indicated a server failure. I moved the mini into the same room with the airport to rule out interference and signal issues and still no internet. A mac tech came to my house and of course, the moment he turned on the unit, it coonected to the net just fine. When he left, it went back to it's previous behavior except that the connection was intermittent as opposed to always gone.. While here, he checked to make sure I didn't need to do certain cleanup tasks, etc. and noted I have plenty of power and memory available. He suggested I order Norton Utilities for Mac a d see if running it from disk would help.
I googled again to learn that Norton Utilities might not be necessary and also might not be good for this os. Problems persisted and even went so far as system not recognizing airport at all, out of range indicators, etc. So, after further reading I decided to change my network settings from open to WPA-personal as some suggested this could cause probs for mini and also reset pmu. immediately, my internet connection returned, airport network fully recognized and has been consistent for the last 24 + hours. Big cautious sigh of relief except now as i write this, the monitor has begun it's intermittent turn-off again and my airport status indicator shows no signal. UGGGHHHH!!!!
IF this is a hardware issue, will the hardware test disk always indicate such? I will run tonight. Any other thoughts or suggestions that don't involve a 20 story building? Thanks in advance...

Thanks again. I did archive and install today. Haven't used the mini enough since to know whether problem is resolved. A friend suggested I reformat the drive after making sure all is backed up. I assume this is the same as erase and install? In the interest of being thorough and eliminating possibilities I thought I'd do that before taking to apple repair. Problem is they didn't find anything before. I can't tell u guys how much I appreciate the responses!

• N97 Mini - problem autolock with security code

I bought my N97 Mini last week. It works perfectly except when I activate autolock with securitycode, the phone refuses to react, when the autolock is activated of course. Only when I remove the battery I can reboot my phone.
I've contacted both the after sales service of the store where I've bought my phone as Nokia Careline.
Nokia referred me to a Nokia Care Point and the after sales service of the store proposed to give me a brend new phone.
I've chosen for the new phone, but the problem remains the same (sometimes it works, but sometimes it doens't).
I have the newest software (V10.0.020 on date 14-10-09), edited version 10.0.020.C01.01 (via *#0000#).
I can't continue te be given new phones that don't work properly.
What should/can I do more?
     Thank you for your help.

and problem
when phone startup and not enter lock code the screen is off when used unlock key to open screen not open screen

• Ipod Mini - Problem with power

Hi all!!!
i've got a problem with my Mini Ipod.
Suddendly it seems that the battery of my Ipod doesn't recharge. I've changed computer (both with Windows XP) and cable and i've tried also with an iHome alarm clock/Radio. But nothig seems to work so i think that the problem is with the iPod.
Forward the Ipod seems to "tilt" because sometimes when i connect it to the pc the monitor freezes with the picture of the battery recharging but it's frozen and i need to reset it also after i have to disconnect it from the PC.
May some of you can help me giving some good advice!!
thanks and bye
Dario

Not too sure, but I believe it is the time to have the battery replacement for your iPod mini. Normally, the battery needs to be replacement after 18-24 months
