Shuffle & Nano on same Itunes

I had I-Tunes set up for an Ipod Shuffle and just added the Ipod Nano but now Itunes won't acknowledge the Shuffle. Is this an inherent problem or should it acknowledge both the Shuffle and the Nano?

iTunes for Windows does not support having multiple iPods connected simultaneously.
Which method are you using, 1 2 or 3 from this article?

  • Nike + and Nano on same iTunes wtih 30GB Video

I currently have a 30GB Video iPod and want to buy a nano to use with Nike +, can both run properly on on iTunes and still update the stats from the nano?

No problem. I am syncing three iPods to the same iTunes library including a 3rd gen Nano with a Nike+ sport kit. It all works fine.

  • Shuffle & nano on same computer?

Grandaughter has a shuffle. Son just got a Nano. They only have 1 computer. Will iTunes recognize both of them? Son just installed his software. Will it over ride the installation of grandaughter's software that has been on computer for several months? When he installed software for his Nano, it asked if he wanted to continue the "uninstall"! He wasn't uninstalling.
Is grandaughter going to have trouble when she wants to update her music for the Shuffle?

Hi shirl16, and Welcome to Discussions!
You should have iTunes 7 to use the new iPod nano. You won't need to download anything else. iTunes 7 will recognize both the nano and shuffle just fine. Additionally, installing or upgrading iTunes should not disturb your music library.

  • Syncing iPhone and ipod nano toi the same iTunes

I have an iPhone (16GB) and and Ipod nano (4GB) and about 9GB of content in my iTUnes. IS it possible to sync both these to the same iTunes library on the same pc. All the iTunes content is on the iPhone but it is too much for iPod nano. I use the two for different things for eg: the nano has nike Plus on it and I also use it for gym etc
in Effect, can you have 2 different libraries to sync with different ipods on the same PC and iTunes

Yes, you can use multiple devices with one library, I use 2 regular iPods and a shuffle (I have a friend who syncs both an iPhone and a Nano, she syncs each with it's own separate playlist). You can for instance have one sync the entire library and another sync a selected playlist or playlists. iTunes recognises each device that is connected and they can each have their own individual settings: There are several different ways to use multiple devices with one computer, you can read more heres: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

  • IPod-Shuffle-Nano-1 iTunes?

Hi everybody, I have a question (will receive my Nano tomorrow):
I have a 60 G iPod which is a "mirror" of my iTunes. It has about 7000 songs. The 60G iPod is appears in iTunes, when I connect the iPod with my MAC. I simpy load/buy new songs and sync to the iPod...
I have a 1G Shuffle too. Its icon is in iTunes all the time. When I connect the shuffle, I can sync with my special Shuffle-Playlist...I have songs on it, but no playlists etc. I dont mind, no display anyway...but now:
I get my Nano, the third iPod. As far as I know I can sync the Nano to a special Playlist too. I WANT a structure on my Nano the way I have it on my 60G iPod! Is that possible? I would like to browse by Singer from A-Z plus some playlists...How can I do so?
Thanks for answers (in "simple" words)
    Gerd Hamann Germany

    Gerd,
It works exactly the same way as your 60G Ipod. Click on the Nano icon in ITunes and it all appears on the screen by Artist/Album etc. It's basically just a smaller version of you Ipod Photo - the software is virtually the same.

  • Now I have a regular ipod and a shuffle can I use the same itunes account

How do I start to set up my shuffle to work on the same itune account?
Once I add my shuffle will it wipe out any / all songs?
    Thanks

If the version of iTunes on your computer is newer than or the same version as the version available when the iPod shuffle came out, you can simply plug the second iPod into your computer and go through the iPod Setup Assistant. Adding a new iPod to your computer will not erase any songs from the iTunes library or other iPods associated with that computer.

All you really need to do is connect the Shuffle to iTunes and set it up to sync however you like.  It will have no affect on your iPod Touch syncs.

  • HT1848 How do I transfer the songs from my desktop to my iPad using the same iTunes account? I can only sync the other way. Thanks

How do I transfer the songs from my desktop to my iPad using the same iTunes account? I can only sync the other way. Thanks

    DaisyDoodle,
The songs on your Shuffle should still be in your iTunes library.  That means you should just be able to connect your Nano to the same iTunes library and sync it just as you would with your Shuffle. There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, or iPhones you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or account.
As for preparing the Shuffle for your husband, just restore it via iTunes and then let him sync it to his own iTunes library or if its the same iTunes library, let him configure it to sync only his content.
Here are instructions on how to restore the Shuffle if need be.

  • HT201272 Why aren't tunes i purchased on earlier devices (same iTunes account) available for me to download now???

I bought an ipod nano (gen II) many moons back and then updated to an iPod touch.
Over the years, I've purchased music from iTunes that I now wish to add to my new device.
But when I check my ITunes purchases, the older purchases just don't show - even though they were all purchased using the same iTunes account.
This seems a bit unfair and comes across as a rip-off as I don't want to have to buy them all again.
In the olden days, you went to the record shop and bought records. But when you traded in your old record player for a smart new hi-fi you didn't have to walk back to the shop and buy all your records again.
It's the reason why I won't upgraded my gen I touch to a new one.
(Apple seem a bit quick in this respect. I bought the v.expensive Apple Hi-Fi to play music through my nano. When I upgraded to my iPod Touch, they'd changed the voltage rating on their devices and so the Apple Hi-FI no longer worked fully with the Apple iPod Touch!.I had to buy a 3rd party adaptor which ruined the look of the whole setup - not good esp. as you buy apple gear for its design).
I've reached the point where i'll probably never buy another apple product.

All purchases should be available.  Are you sure they were purchased under the same ID?
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
You should ALWAYS have a backup copy of your purchases.
When you bought records, you kept the records, just as you should keep the songs you downloaded.  If you throw them away with your ipod, then they are gone, just as if you threw away a record with the record player.
You can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases
It is 100% your fault if you fail to maintain a backup copy of your music.
You will never be happy with any digital product if you fail to do the basics.

  • How do I make the Shuffle Setting on my iTunes More Random?

    Hi,
I've just recently got my iPod classic (finally) and I love it! But, I have a question about iTunes. My question is: How do I get the shuffle setting in my iTunes to be more random? I have "The iPod Book" by Scott Kelby and looked this up, but I have the fourth edition, and so the picture for the iTunes > Preferences > Playback > picture is not the same as mine. I can't find the bar to slide the shuffle setting to more random or as Apple puts it " least likely". Not that it's the most important topic in the world, but I already have a total of almost 1500 songs and I'm still having to skip because I have music from the same album or the same song(s) popping up about 4 tracks later. This is really frustrating since part of the reason I bought it was to listen to ALL my music shuffled, but instead I spend more time switching through my music to finally get to something different. Does anybody know how to do this with the new iTunes version? Also to clarify, I have already searched through the automatic help that's offered in iTunes and nothing is coming up that helps me, and I've tried searching Support here on the website and ll I get is how to either turn shuffle on or tech support for having an iPod shuffle, not how to make it more random

I took a play list of 3500 songs and sorted first by album name and then by track.
Is there some reason you think you needed to sort by Album first?
As soon as you sort on any other column, iTunes doesn't care you sorted this first. It is now ignored.
I don'dt know if we have a semantics problem
    We don't.
Sorting by Album first then sorting by Track # sorts by Track #  and Album name as the secondary sort.
You don't need to first sort by Album.
    THIS DOES NOTHING!
When you sort by Track #...
    Abbey Road -Track 1
    Americana - Track 1
    Anthology - Track 1
    Abbey Road -Track 2
    Americana - Track 2
    Anthology - Track 2
Therefore both the primary and secondary sorts mean something.
    Correct.
You are not selecting the secondary sort. Sorting by Track #, the secondary sort is always Album.
    Try this.
Sort by Artist then sort by Track #.
It is now sorted as above.
Sorting by 1 column then another does absolutely nothong (except take a few more mouseclicks).
    I rest my case.

  • 2 ipods want to use same itunes

I bought a 5th gen w/vid and uploaded many CD's to it from my collection. I liked my ipod so much I bought my wife one IPOD nano. When I hooked up her nano and loaded it I tried to move a folder from itunes that i made for her to her new nano. Something happed because it shows there is 1.3 gigs of space taken on her nano but no songs show on her ipod or under her ipod playlist. Man this is frustrating, how do you set up a second ipod under the same itunes? please help

I did that and it shows that i have something on there but it wont show the songs. Alos when I hook her ipod up it asks me to register and the set up info all over again. What should have i done from the start when trying to hook up a second ipod?

  • Synching a second iPhone to the same iTunes library.

My wife and I have just got iPhones. I have an Apple ID but my wife does not. In the past we have synced the family iPad, iPod Touch and Nano to the iTunes library on our iMac. Music and Apps were shared across these devices without any problems.
I've synced my iPhone to iTunes. Before my wife tries to synch parts of the music library and selected Apps should she:
    1. Proceed using my Apple ID?
    2. Get her own Apple ID and synch after creating a separate user login on the iMac? If I understand correctly I'd have to move the iTunes library into a public folder which would be accessible to all users of the iMac. In order to synch the phone in the future she'd have to log in to her account on the iMac.
If she chooses the first option she misses the opportunity to get 5GB of iCloud storage.
If she takes the second option can we both access and share any subsequent purchases, be they Apps, music or movies?
I've searched the discussions forum and followed various links to knowledge base articles but have yet to find a clear answer to these circumstances. I hope someone can clarify things.
    Thanks.
    Will Percy

You both need, & should use different Apple ID's for iCloud, iMessage & FaceTime. You both can continue to use the same Apple ID for iTunes content.
Your wife needs an Apple ID for iMessage, FaceTime & iCloud.
The Apple ID needs to be a verified email address. Once you have an email address, that can be verified, go here & create the ID:
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId
Then on her phone, turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you both share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

  • Can I have 2 different IPods on the same itunes account and computer?

    I have a nano gen. 4 and a new nano 7.
Can I have them both on my itunes account and computer?
    thanks

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

  • Can you connect two iPods to the same iTunes library?

This might sound dumb but I honestly have no idea - I want to purchase a second iPod but don't know if I can run them both from the same iTunes library? The new one I want is a shuffle so a much small capacity then my other iPod. Help.

you can use a virtually unlimited number of mobile devices with a single iTunes library. in fact, Apple wants you to buy as many of them as possible
