Shuffle no longer responding to next/previous and volume control

I have an shuffle that no longer responds to the ring control. I can start playing and stop it but I can't jump to next previous songs and I can't alter the volume. At first this was intermittent so I'm wondering if there may be some corrosion involved. I have a Gen 3 shuffle but never use it because it's harder to control and I can't use my primo Shure ear buds on it.
Can I maybe squirt some WD40 under onto the ring? It's past the one year warranty. I've already had it replaced once for dead battery.

Thanks, I looked at ifixit.com's teardown of this model and that's exactly right... little contacts on circuit board. What's interesting is that when I first use it I can change tracks but after a few minutes of playing the ring control stops working altogether, while the center on/off button works. It's almost as if it's temp related, maybe it warms up when in contact with my body. I'll have to test that.

Lock screen shows blurred background image with Safari run and volume controls

The normally sharp image in the lock screen is blurred. Run and volume controls for Safari are displayed at the top of the screen - volume slider moves, play button has no effect. I do not know how to return the screen to normal appearance. Wallpaper settings show normal image. There are no active movies or videos running.

OK, I returned to the settings for Wallpaper and Brightness and selected a different Wallpaper - the problem went away. The cause may be that the specific wallpaper I had been using is no longer present for selection.

Air vs Air 2 Lens and Volume Controls Placement

Are the camera lens and volume control positions slightly different between the original iPad Air and the iPad Air 2? The reason I'm asking is that I just purchased the Air 2 with Smart Case and the holes in the case for the camera lens and volume controls don't line up with the lens and volume controls on the Air 2. The lens us partially covered by the case and the area for the volume controls are off some as well. I'm wondering if I was accidentally sold a case for the original iPad Air?

Make Sure iOS is updated to the latest version
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

Are iphone 4S power button and volume control suppose to be loose? because mines are a little bit loose from when i got it .

when i got my 4S the iphone power button and volume control were loose i noticed after a week and now sorta worried about whats goning to happen to the buttons.

OS X 10.5.6: High RAM usage corrupts Audio Playback and Volume Control

iTunes 8.1, Quicktime 7.4, Adobe CS3
Description:
Basically any RAM intensive operation seems to corrupt the sound driver so that static is injected into the stream. In addition, volume control fails to function, with decrease of volume controls resulting in a louder more corrupted signal being sent to the speakers.
Attempted Fixes:
RAM swapped, no effect.
Permissions repaired, no effect.
PR Zapped, no effect.
Reinstalled OS, no effect.
Workaround:
It's in no way ideal, but once the corruption occurs, a reboot of the machine will restore function until the next RAM intensive operations causes the problem again. It's at best an annoying band aid.
Notes:
I'm not really expecting a solution, more as I want to find out if anyone else is having a similar issue to my own. If this system behavior sounds familiar, please reply and let me know about your system. This behavior only started for me when my company migrated to OS 10.5. A downgrade is not an option, due to software compatibility issues. Thanks for your attention.

I am having that exact same issue with my new MacBook Pro. I notice faint bursts of static like the audio is trying to break through and then it is lost all together. I trash my sound prefs (both Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Preferences and reboot which corrects it, but then it happens again within a few days (or hours)... what gives? What is corrupt and what file do I need to permanently replace? Do I need to call Apple about this on a new machine?

Port replicator and volume controls

hi - i have a new USB port replicator hooked up to my T42 Thinkpad. I plugged my external speakers into the port replicator's headphone jack. The speakers work, but now the volume controls on my laptop don't do anything. I have to make any volume adjustments using the controls on the speakers themselves. Anything I can do about this? I have the same port between the yellow port and the white port, and it looks like a display port (?)

I need help with voice memo and volume control

I really dislike to update my iphone's software. I have Iphone 4S and I have been using voice memo to record lectures for sometime.
It was working well till updated my Iphone's software (IOS or whatever that is). Now I can't transfer my voice memo to my computer
and I have tried so many things people have suggested online which are 1. restart my mac book, 2. turn off and on my Iphone 3.
check voice memo when syncing my iphone with macbook. It is not working. Also, I totally messed my volume control. I went to
Genuis bar and the lady who helped told me that my Iphone has some issues before which is making my Iphone go nuts.
In short, 1. I cannot sync my voicemail
2. my volume does not work....i have to turn it on and off

Right-click on Magic Mouse and Volume Controls on Wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working

I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 on an Late 2012 iMac.
One morning the right click on my Magic Mouse and the volume controls on the wireless keyboard stopped working.
These mouse and keyboard themselves seem fine; they work okay ehn used on a MacBook.
Everything else about the mouse and keyboard is fine.
This seems to be a problem what has been around for a whole, with a wide variety of solutions.

Clicking on and off the 'right click' checkbox in the Mouse System Preferences - No effect

Resetting NVRAM / PRAM - Is it CTRL+CMD+P+R or CMD+OPT+P+R ? Neither work for me (I do try it using a wired keyboard, but never get the double chime)
Upgraded to 10.9.2 - no effect
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext and and back in (and re-authenticate) - No joy
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext from a working MacBook on same OS - Made the keyboard misbehave even more
Has anyone got any other cures for this?

Here is what worked for me. My scrolling on the mighty mouse and a few buttons on my wireless keyboard weren't working properly. I reset the SMC, a link explaining the process is below. Hope it helps you too!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Have you installed Boot Camp drivers? You need them to make your computer work properly on Windows, and to use your function keys as Play or Pause, volume and brightness keys.
To install them, follow these steps:
1. Press the X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X.
2. Open Boot Camp Assistant and tick only the option to download Windows support software.
3. Windows support software will be downloaded and Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to burn it into a DVD or USB drive, so do it.
4. Start into Windows, insert the DVD or USB drive and install Boot Camp drivers. Your Mac and your volume and brightness keys will be working after installing the drivers

Musicapp, speaker and volume control won't work since updated to iOS 7.1

Since I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.1 my iPhone works faster than iOS 7. But some apps like musicapp, youtube have no volume control and the speakers won't work. When somebody call me the iPhone rings normally. I tried turn off bluetooth because I thought the iPhone will conect to my car. I pressed the lock and homebutton for reseting, I deletetet my whole iPhone and installed iOS7.1 again - nothing changed. Only when i plug in my earphones everything will work as normal.

it seems to be a problem of the update to 7.1 because some guys posted the same problem on other sites.

What is that weird button next to multitasking volume control that controls whether music comes out of ear speaker or bottom speaker?

There is a weird button beside the multitasking volume control that allows me to play the music through the ear speaker. The button shows a rectangle and triangle together. Is this normal?

Headphone Jack and volume control

I have very sensitive headphones and the volume control on the MBP is a bit squirrelly: I plug in the headphones, use Fn+f11 to change the volume to my usual setting (just one tick), go to iTunes to play some tunes and then the loudness is jacked up to the middle setting (which is the setting I use when I use the headphone as a line out hooked up to my stereo). Suffice it to say, my ears are a bit mad at me right now.
Is this a known issue, and how does one post a SW bug to get Apple Support? I tired looking for a file a bug, but I couldn't find it.

Many people actually complain about a LACK of volume when using their Macs under windows, dallen33.
The headphone port on the Mac is a "dumb" port. It can't determine the impedance and efficiency of whatever you happen to be plugging into it at the time. If it was "intelligent" it would probably require Apple specific headphones, which would have everyone up in arms about trade restrictions and the like. If it was configured to provide a muted maximum output level suitable for headphones that produce the maximum possible volume then there would be thousands with lower efficiency headphones, including some with very high quality ones, complaining that the sound was too quiet (just as some do about the Windows output level) !
Surely this stuff is pretty easy for people to sort out for themselves. If you have headphones that produce a high output level then turn down the volume slider in iTunes right down before you stick 'em in your ears and then gradually adjust the volume upwards until it is at the level you would like!! If you do this you will find that the volume starts at zero even if the system setting is at maximum.
Alternatively, buy yourselves some high quality, lower efficiency headphones.
