Shuffle not charging/being recognised by computer

OK, so my shuffle was working prefectly well until last week when I was updating it. I was removing some songs from it when the light showing it was connected to the computer disappeared and it vanished from iTunes. Since then my computer won't recognise it and it won't charge, although it will still play, so I reckon the problem must be the USB connection on the iPod itself.
So I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if they did how did they solve it?

Hi -Sammi-,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
Have you tried "The Five Rs"? Does your iPod show up on your computer? You might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #301343 on iPod Not Recognized When Connected to Windows Laptop over USB and Knowledge Base Document #61711, which troubleshoots When Your Windows PC Doesn't Recognize iPod.
I hope that helps,

  • I can't get my 2nd gen. ipod shuffle to charge on my new computer.

I can't get my 2nd gen. ipod shuffle to charge on my new computer.  I can prompt itunes, sync, and add/delete songs, but not charge.  I've tried to restore but that didn't work.  Advice?

Without telling us what computer models and OS versions, as well as how you're trying to update, not much help can be given.  It has nothing to do with the number of computers you have.
This question should be posted in the iTunes forum, not the iPhone.

  • IPhone will not charge when plugged into computer

My phone was not working, and so I took it to the apple store nearby. Here were the problems:
-error message saying "this device not made to work with iPhone"
-would not charge when plugged into computer OR wall charger
-person on other end of phone calls said i sounded really far away and had trouble hearing me
-when i shut it off, it restarts itself immediately
-cant do a manual reset holding the power and center buttons at same time
-when plugged into the computer, mouse freezes, and a message appears saying ""power surge on hub port A usb device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port."
At the genuis bar they told me they cant help me cause that little water damage indicator inside the headphone hole is pink instead of white! I have never ever ever ever ever EVER gotten my phone directly wet. The only thing i could think of was the humidity in the bathroom when I'm taking a shower, and using the timer to use hair remover on my legs lol. But i think this is totally unfair, they wont repair my phone, or even really look at it because of this supposed water damage. My phone has worked fine up to this point, and the thing that happened that started all of this is when i dropped it about a foot off the ground in a DRY parking lot.
Is there any way they will replace my iphone at no charge?

Well don't give up try again maybe your luck will change when you go back up there, let somebody else look at your phone not the same person that told you that.I would get a second and a 3rd option about my phone. When you go back don't even tell them what somebody already told you up there ones.
And after the 3rd time I'll ask them well can they send your phone off to be fixed,It might not be nothing wrong with your phone it might be just they eyes playing tricks on them.Cause I promise you I know my phone had gotten some water in it cause I was sitting on the porch one day me and about 6 other people one of my cousin came out and through a bucket of water at my brother and I was sitting right on the side of him.And when I say my phone look like I than gave it a bath witch when they did that I had already had call the Apple store and told them something was wrong with my phone. And they had gave me appt to come up there,so I went to the Apple store I wanted say two day's latter after I made the appt to let them see my phone but my cousin and brother was playing with that water the day before I had to go so I guess that's why I was mad cause I was going to get other phone the next day after apple look at my old phone. So even with all that they still gave me other phone and I don't see how I didn't have no water in my phone cause of how much water they had through on my phone.
I guess I was luck cause if they would have told me that I would have freaked out so badly. And the reason why cause I wouldn't had my phone for five days and for them to tell me they couldn't do something oh yea they would have done something cause I would have went to jail that day for tearing up something in the store that worth my 400 and something dollars I spent on my phone and it would have bent one of them computer that would have bent history.
But I'M telling you,you going to be okay don't give up.Make you other appt and see what they say.

  • Shuffle not charging or anything!?

So I went for a nice bike ride yesterday. My shuffle battery ran out on the ride. No big deal.
I got home, plugged it into my charger adapter. Three orange blinky lights and then nothing. Went to use it today, not charged at all. PLugged it into my computer - three orange blinky. Nothing - won't syc up or even show up on itunes.
    Any help?

My 2nd gen shuffle has also stopped working. It is not entirely impossible that it was inadvertently turned on and essentially ran out of power. I did plug it into the wall (using a bona-fide Apple iPod USB/AC plug) and of course their supplied "dock" with the power plug in the headphone jack.......and nothing. Even an overnight 10 hour charge resulted in nothing.
I should also add that I am running 10.6.2 and iTunes 9.0.3 and had never had any problems with either charging or syncing.
Is this unit now dead? It seems foolhardy to spend what has been alleged to be $50 to replace the battery on a $79 item. But I do like the design of this unit - is there anything I can do or is that it......?

  • IPod will not charge/connect to a computer

To start with my iPod was taking a while to connect to the charger for it to charge, but yesterday it completely stopped connecting to it, it would not connect to any computer or wall socket. I have tried different cables to attempt to charge but they do not work either, so it must be the iPod whch is not responding. At the moment the iPod is completely dead.

  • AC adapter not charging battery or powering computer

    Hello:
The AC adapter is not charging my battery although the LED light becomes orange as if it is charging. In addition, it appears the computer is not recognizing the AC adapter at all. If I remove the battery and try to use the AC adapter, it does not power it (yet, the LED light becomes orange). So far I did three things:
I did PMU resetting but it did not help.
I tried to upgrade the batter (by going to Utilities > PowerBook G4 Battery Updater) but a message saying “Plug a 60W charger to the computer” popped up even though the charger was already plugged in, and the LED’s light was orange.
I transferred my battery to my brother’s Powerbook and plugged the same charger to his computer, it worked fine (it charged it).
My guess is the computer is not recognizing the AC adapter at all.

I just logged on to ask for help about this problem. I'm not really surprised to see that I'm not alone. I've been having problems with AC Adapters for over half a year. I had to return three of them because after a day or two they stopped working. Then I got fed up (and also a bit embarrassed) and stop returning them and just dealt with the fact that I cannot have a second, functioning AC Adapter. I should add that all these AC Adapters were not original Apple ones - they are from Deer Computer Co. Ltd. About a month ago the one functioning AC Adapter I have started acting up, so I took my laptop to the Apple Service and explained the problem. The guy checked the connection port and he told me everything was ok, he also said that I should buy the original Apple AC Adapter. I was a bit baffled since they sell the ones I purchased themselves. If you go into the store (which is an authorised store that sells exclusively Apple products here in Switzerland: http://dataquest.ch) and ask for an AC Adapter they will automatically give you this (cheaper) version, if you want the original, you have to ask for it specifically. Anyway, today I went and bought an Apple AC Adapter, and - it's not properly loading. It's green, then it flashes green and orange. I've had it plugged in for close to an hour now and it went from 0% to an impressive 9%. I'm getting very frustrated here. I just don't know what to do anymore. I have a feeling that very soon this AC Adapter will cease to function completely, just like the other ones I've had in the past six months. I spent more time, energy and money on AC Adapters than I possibly should have to!

  • Ipod Shuffle not charging or being detected by computer or Itunes

My Ipod shuffle is less than three months old, and has suddenly quit working. It is not detected by Itunes or the computer, except when it's first plugged in a red light flashes on the Ipod itself, then turns off. I have tried several cables, and I have tried connecting it to multiple computers and USB ports. I have another Ipod that syncs fine with Itunes, so I know Itunes works. Itunes is also updated to the latest version, and I have checked all of the drivers. The Ipod worked fine one day, and the next day, it would not turn on. It was left on a shelf overnight the night it quit working, and has never been exposed to water as far as I know.

I think the trouble-shooting you describe has ruled out a bad USB docking cable, and a problem on the USB port.  And since it previously worked with this computer, it's not some incompatibility with software or hardware.  Even if there was a software (OS or iTunes) related problem, the shuffle should still charge when connected.
So, if it's not software, the docking cable, or the USB port, the cause is probably a problem on the shuffle (such as the logic board or battery).  Since it is less than one-year from purchase date, you should have it checked under warranty.  If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar on the store's web page
    https://www.apple.com/retail/
and take it there.  Otherwise, you can contact Apple's tech support using the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.

  • Ipod nano not being recognised by computer, 5th gen

my ipod is not beng recognised by my laptop as my ipod will not turn on and is charged and is also not being recgonised by any other devices such as docking stations. It will not reset for me and have tried numerous links online, please help???!!!!

If the iPod isn't powering on and you are positive that you are using a working USB cable and plugging the iPod into a working USB port or wall adapter, it could be a sign of some hardware issue with the iPod such as a dead battery or damaged/faulty logic board.

My player used to be able to connect fine to my computer however now it doesnt recognise it at all. Windows media player is installed, I tried all 6 USB ports with no success and it doesn't appear in device manager. I have also tried on a different computer with th same results. This has only started happening recently. When I attempt to plug the player in it turns the player on, then turns itself off after the idle time kicks in. I tried fully reformatting the player, it still doesnt work and now i am left with an mp3 player without any songs on which I cant put any songs on. I have already tried emailing customer support but the page appears to be broken. I am getting mighty fed up with this as I don't have the money to fund a new mp3 player.

  • Help.. brand new Ipod 80gb not being recognised by Computer or itunes

Replaced a ipod mini that was stolen from my house with a brand new 80gb ipod. Plugged it into the same computer that had been used successfully with the mini and the ipod will not be seen by either the computer or itunes. It will charge through the usb post no problem but when you plug it in it originally came up with the windows new hardware wizard, as apple have for some misguided reason stopped supplying CD's, the wizard can not find the correct driver, and fails to install. When Itunes is running nothing appears. I have been through the 5 R's, or should I say 4 r's as the fifth rely's on itunes recognizing the ipod before you can restore, countless time, so please unless you are sure don't ask me to click the hold button on and off yet again.
Plugged the ipod into an old laptop with USB 1.0 ports and the ipod was recognized which would suggest it is my main comp's usb ports that are at fault, but as two previous ipod mini's worked without fault I find this hard to believe. I think if only I had the correct driver to install I could solve this problem easily. Can anyone send me the correct driver for an 80gb ipod.
It hopefully goes without saying that I have downloaded the latest itunes software and gone through all the post's on the this site. I thought I'd cracked it with the UBSSORT file post but it was not to be....to tell you the truth if it's this complicated I'd rather send it back and buy a sony mp3 or even an ipod nano. At my wits end so please help Obi one, your my only hope

  • Cable not being recognised by computer or phone.

I have a nokia e50. and i am using a ca-53 cable. I have downloaded the latest version of pcsuite but when i connect the phone to the computer the computer doesnt show it, and also on the phone it doesnt say that it is connected (which im assuming it would do)
I have tried turning phone on and off.
    restarting computer
    different usb sockets
i also have also changed the data cable mode to pc suite, data transfer and ask on connection.
    please help.

your phone is old the the socket is worn out. after you have connected, try turning your phone over (so the screen faces the table surface) and then changing the angle of tilt of your phone.
yes, you will need to hold on to your phone the whole time.
i've faced this problem too, so i know.
dont bother sending it to the nokia center. they never fix things properly and this problem will still occur.

  • Can't get new shuffle to charge or "eject" from computer

I have a new shuffle. Followed all directions to a tee, or at least I think I have. Even tried reformatting shuffle. I've already downloaded songs to the shuffle, but the orange light keeps blinking and will not stop. I have left it plugged in to the computer for 12 hrs and no change and no charge. The guide to the lights says that it indicates that it means the shuffle is being used as a disk source and needs to be ejected. However, I do not have that function enabled and even when I try to use the eject function it tells me I can't because I have shared files in another source. Any ideas?

I think I fixed the problem. I could not eject in i
Tunes because it was not enabled as an outside port
or disk in i tunes. I had to go to the Start menu
and go under my computer and eject there from the e
drive. It seems to have worked because it stoped
blinking and now has a steady oranage light which
    means it is finally charging.
For future reference: While blinking orange the Shuffle charges anyway... you just can;t tell when it's fully charged UNLESS you either EJECT it, or disconnect it.

  • 4G iPod shuffle not charging or recognized by itunes/windows

I purchased the 4G shuffle less than two months ago. The battery ran out completely while I was listening in my car so I plugged into my laptop to charge battery. When I first plug shuffle in, there's a red light that shines for about 5 seconds and then nothing else happens. There's no orange light indicating that the battery is charging, nothing shows up on my computer and itunes. I've tried leaving it plugged to my computer for at least 30 minutes, tried plugging it into different computers and wall outlet, tried turning my shuffle off for 10 seconds then turning it back on. Nothing. I've called apple support with no answer. What else can I do?

If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the Genius Bar there.  You should make a reservation at the store's web page, so you don't have to wait too long

I assume you were able to previously charge it, or so everything worked before, but it did not work after it ran out of power the last time?
There's a one-year warranty, so if it's found to be defective, you should get a replacement.
