Shuffle not detected by computer

My Ipod Shuffle is not recognized by Windows or ITunes.  I updated ITunes and it didn't help.
Any suggestions?

I think the trouble-shooting you describe has ruled out a bad USB docking cable, and a problem on the USB port.  And since it previously worked with this computer, it's not some incompatibility with software or hardware.  Even if there was a software (OS or iTunes) related problem, the shuffle should still charge when connected.
So, if it's not software, the docking cable, or the USB port, the cause is probably a problem on the shuffle (such as the logic board or battery).  Since it is less than one-year from purchase date, you should have it checked under warranty.  If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can make a reservation at the Genius Bar on the store's web page
https://www.apple.com/retail/
and take it there.  Otherwise, you can contact Apple's tech support using the Contact Us link at the bottom right corner of this web page.

  • Iphone 4 is not detected by computer and itunes but it is charging

Iphone 4 (IOS 7) is not detected by computer and itunes.
I am the 2nd owner of this iPhone 4. I did all the troubleshooting said in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 but nothing resolved it.
    Troubleshooting I did:
    1. Used other iphone / ipod devices, it worked but not my iphone 4.
    2. Used different Windows OS and different computer, Win7 & Win8, still not detected.
    3. Used different USB cables, still not detected. But my current USB cable is working with other iPhone/iPod devices.
    3. Uninstall / Install iTunes, still not detected.
    4. There is no "X" in the device Manager, and also, portable devices is not showing upon plugging in the device.
    5. Made sure that the Apple Mobile Service is running.
    6. I only have iPhone devices, so I don't have any 3rd party Software conflicts.
    Please help me. Thanks!

When I plug my iphone 4s into my computer it is not detected in itunes, device manager or by drivers.  It makes the connection noise and shows the charge indicator, nothing else
My classic and shuffle connect fine on my computer

I have tried my iphone on my friends computer and it does not detect (apart from charge)

I have tried full phone reset of settings and data
It DOES detect and work when plugged into a sound dock (although i cant load music onto it so just played off youtube)
To me it like a part of iOS that syncs with the computer is broken, but I have no idea how to sort this as its not detected when plugged into a computer

DFU mode should not show the 'connect to iTunes symbol' from what I understand....
I just tried to enter DFU mode and following these steps...
The bold part as suspected does not work - computer detects nothing
Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB and launch iTunes.
Now turn your iPhone off. Hold down the sleep / power button at the top right of your iPhone, then slide your finger across the "slide to power off" button on your iPhone's screen. (If it won't turn off, press Home and Sleep/Power until the screen goes dark, then release.)
Once your iPhone is off, hold down both the sleep / power button as well as the home button for 10 seconds. Once 10 seconds has elapsed, release the sleep / power button on your iPhone, but continue to hold the home button until the the above message has appeared in iTunes telling you that your iPhone has been detected in recovery mode. (If you just want to go to recovery mode, skip the 10-second hold on both buttons and simply connect the phone while holding down Home, then wait for 'Connect to iTunes' screen on the phone.)
Click OK. You're now in DFU mode.
Im not in a city with an Apple store but I can get a train to one which wont cost too much
No liquid or damage at all.  It has Zagg screen protectors on front and back that cost £27 (including fitting) and a thin case aswell
I will do this, unless anyone other answers appear on here
    Thanks

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPad not detected by computer. Not charging. I'm pretty sure its the dock connection inside the actual iPad, and there is nothing that apple will do because it messed up literally messed up 3 days after my warranty was up. Anything I can do?

My iPad has been messed up for quite a while now. It won't charge correctly. It's not detected by my computer. I'm pretty sure its the dock connection. Apple won't do anything because my warranty was up literally 3 days before I noticed the problem. Should I just send to to someone who works on iPads and hope for the best? Is there anything else I can do? It woudn't bug me if I already had iOS 5 installed but alas, I do not. I just got an iPhone and want to enjoy the benefits of iCloud. Also I can't update Pages because it requires iOS 5 and that's super annoying.

Further to my last, I am just asking for that check as a double precaution.
You stated originally that your IPad "won't charge correctly". Can you be more explicit?
Is there any charge in it at all? What does the indicator say? If the battery is completely drained then it might take 20 minutes or more to indicate that it is charging. At the end of the day, you could have a virtually drained battery which is one problem and also the unfortunate experience of an iPad not being detected by iTunes for a completely different reason altogether. (Hope you get this post before replying to my last.)

  • New shuffle not detected by Windows

Familiar story: I bought a new shuffle, which arrived today, and Windows doesn't detect it at all. I followed the installation procedure by the book, but no luck. I went through every step in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711 including the 5 R's (more than once), but nothing works. I've uninstalled both iTunes and the iPod software, restarted my computer, reinstalled the latest versions of iTunes and the iPod software, and restarted again. No luck. I've tried every USB port on my computer. (I have one built-in USB 1.1 port and a PCMCIA card with four USB 2.0 ports.) The iPod itself claims to be charged when I press the battery button. (They must ship these models with a full charge, I guess.) It just isn't detected by Windows at all. It doesn't show up in device manager or Explorer or the iPod Updater or anywhere else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Dell C600 Latitude   Windows 2000

I've already tried every USB port on my computer. (I have a single USB 1.1 port built in to the computer, and a PC card that provides four USB 2.0 ports. None of them work. All five show up as having 500 mA available to them, which I think counts as "high-powered," right?)
What do you mean when you say that I can't send it back? The return policy on the invoice says: "If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase of a pre-built product, please call 1-800-676-2775 for a Return Material Authorization (RMA) request within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product.…A 10% open box fee will be assessed on any opened hardware or accessory." So I thought I could return it provided that I am willing to get hit with a rather lame 10% restocking fee (which should come to about ten bucks on a shuffle purchase). Am I misunderstanding?

  • Shuffle not recognized by computer or iTunes?

HELP! My shuffle simply stopped working today. I took it home and docked it and the computer doesn't recognize it nor does iTunes. I've spent hours trying to troubleshoot it and nothing seems to help. Suggestions?

    Hey
mine is working on the mac again sort off. Here is what i did. A friend of mine has the same suffle I connected it to the mac with his dock with no problem. So I borrowed the dock from him to see if the dock has a problem, Same issues orange light blinking but nothing else. So I hooked up the Ipod on my wifes PC the first message I got from the pc saying hook up your ipod to a faster USB for better performance, which i know the Ipod was hooked up on a USB2 anway Itunes opened up on the pc and asked me to sync with it, which i did. I then did a restor on the shuffle and ejected the shuffle from the pc hooked it up on the mac and guess what got a similir message saying your ipod is only working on a 1.1 USB hook it up for better performance on a USB2 again ignored it and I tunes opend up and right now I am loading the songs back on which takes a bit longer but it works. So I think the problem we all experince has to do the wth USB connection inside the Ipod. as the dock is working fine the as the other ipod worked ok on it. I have not disconected and reconnected the ipod from the mac but if I have issues i will post them

  • Ipod Shuffle not recognized by computer and iTunes and does not charge

I connected my iPod to my computer but for some reason, it is not recognized at all by the computer nor iTunes. It doesn't charge either. I have tried all the USB ports and since I have Windows Vista, I cannot use the Restore Utility thingy. I purchased my iPod about 2 years ago so a warranty replacement is out of the question. Since any choices have been kicked off, can anyone find a solution to my problem? TYVM pl0x

  • Ipod not detected by computer or itunes

    Hi all,
I have two older ipod classics (from before they were called classic!), the are suddenly no longer findable on any of my computers.   One is a 30gig, and easily 5 years old.  The other is an 80 gig that is probably 4 years.   Both play thru stereo and car radio with no problems, and can take a charge thru a USB cord.  My 180 gig (about 2 years old), is still recognized by computers, as are an original! shuffle and and elderly 4 gig nano.     The primary computer is an iMac, OS X 10.6.4 (reloading snow leopard, but thats another story), iTunes 10.4.   However, I've also tried to connect these to a Macbook OS 10.6.7 and a Macbook Pro 10.6.7, both less than a year old,  as well as a 4 year old macbook running 10.5.8 and iTunes  10.1.1.   I've tried several usb cords, and no joy there.    These computers all see the 180 gig, as well as the shuffle and nano, but not the other two.    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Zeph

  • 4th Gen iPod Shuffle not detected by Windows(7)/iTunes

    Hi,
    I have an iPod Shuffle 4th Gen (I believe it's a 2GB).  I use windows 7.
I'm having an issue where Windows and iTunes cannot detect my iPod shuffle.
It was working fine, then I did a restore and set it into manual handling.  About 30 minutes later, I heard a USB device get disconnected from Windows (it played the USB disconnect sound/tones over my headphones).  Now, upon plugging it in to ANY USB port, it does not appear.
I've looked at several articles/troubleshooting pages, and none seem to have resolved this issue.
I also noticed that when plugged in, it slowly flashes a green light (no orange light comes on at all).  I was concerned there was an issue with power, but upon turning the device on, I get an automated message saying to add music to the device before it turns itself off.
    Any thoughts would be welcome.
    Thank you.

Do the USB ports work for for other devices?
