Shuffle Not Longer Recognized/Charging on Laptop

I bought an iPod Shuffle 1 GB in February, and it's been working fine. Two weeks ago, I plugged it in the usual USB port for charging, and neither iTunes nor Windows recognizes it, and it will not charge. Nothing is different on the laptop (Dell Inspiron 2650) or Windows XP (SP 2). I've read discussions on here and tried making sure the ports are active (they work) and uninstalled/re-installed iTunes 4.9. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I bought a 1Gb iPod Shuffle in March, and I have the same problem. My iPod plays songs the songs on it, but when connected to my laptop, or computer it is notrecognised by windows or iTunes.

Has this iPod Shuffle ever been able to successfully connect with this PC and sync with iTunes or is the first time you are connecting the iPod Shuffle to this PC?

  • Hi, recently my Iphone 4S having wifi problem. I have try to restore it and accidentally get everything clear off. I have also notice that my phone is not USB recognized by my laptop before my wifi gone. Is there any ways to restore my contact?

    Hi,
My Iphone 4S having wifi problem. I also noticed that the USB is not longer recongnized by my laptop anymore.
I tried to upgrade my IOS6 into 7 hopefully it work...
Somehow, all data (contacts, sms, photo and etc) were gone after I did that.
Since my USB and wifi is not function, is there anyway to retrieve my lost contacts?
For Icloud, is the data retrieve via the phone sim? Phone mac ID? Apple ID? or everything?

Did you backup your iPhone 4S before to upgrade? If you did, you may recover your contacts from it.

Or you should use an iPhone recovery software to get your lost contacts back. Please follow the blog's tips to have a try.
For iCloud, it does not retrieve the phone sim data. It can only restore your backup data. And, if you want to find your Apple ID, you should read this:

  • New 3rd Gen. 4 GB iPod Shuffle not being recognized by computer or iTunes

Hey everyone, I've read some of the other posts here on this thread about other people having problem getting their computer to recognize the new 4 GB iPod Shuffle when plugged into the USB drive, and it seems like I am having a very similar issue. I just received my iPod in the mail a few days ago and tried plugging it into the USB and got NO response whatsoever from my computer or iTunes. I am operating with Windows XP (Service Pack 3) on a Dell Inspiron Intel processor, 2 GHz with 3 GB RAM, with iTunes 8.1 (just updated). When I put something in my USB usually I hear a noise (sounds like DO-do ha) which tells me that my laptop recognizes whatever is plugged in, and usually I get a little box in the bottom right hand part of the screen that says it's been plugged in. I didn't get any of this when I plugged it in.
When I first opened the box I turned the shuffle on and the light went green for 1 second, orange for 1 second, red for one second, then dead..I suppose this is expected since I figured it's new and needs to be charged, so I turned the shuffle off, plugged the USB into the earphone socket then into my USB, and then turned the shuffle on, and got nothing but the same sequence of lights. It's one thing if iTunes just didn't recognize the shuffle, but I checked the Device Manager and My Computer and the USB drive wasn't even listing the shuffle as being plugged in..maybe the USB cable that came with it is faulty?? I read all of the technical troubleshooting notes on here and tried the 5 R's and nothing is working at all..
I do have one guess about this though..I also have an 80 GB iPod 5th generation that I've used for over a year now for my car and that plugs into the USB fine with its respective cable and is recognized by iTunes..my question is, can my iTunes only recognize one iPod at a time? Does it reject the shuffle because iTunes is only allowed to sync to one iPod per account? If this is true, is there a way around this so it can sync both, or can I have two iTunes accounts on the same computer? But why does the computer not even recognized it when plugged in? Hopefully it is just the cable that is damaged and not the device..wow this was long, but any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

    According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
iTunes for Windows does not support having multiple iPods *connected simultaneously.*

  • Shuffle no longer recognized by, well, anything.

    Hello,
I've been reading over the posts on this subject and decided to add another one to the mix. I recently installed iTunes 7.1 against my better judgement, as I'd cancelled dozens of times before. Much to my dismay the shuffle that I own is no longer recognized by iTunes or Windows. I have tried the shuffle reset utility but as my shuffle is not recognized by my computer...it doesn't work. I would appreciate any help that someone might have, and if it's possible to roll my iTunes back to a previous version I'd like to know. Thanks,
    Zeddar

Suggest you find another computer and see if Shuffle is recognized and apply reset utility to it there.

  • IPod Shuffle not being recognized by my PC

Hi, I just bought 2 Apple iPod Shuffles from eBay. I have a slight problem. When I plug them into my USB port, iTunes does not recognize them. They show up in My Computer though. When I try to re-install/reset the factory settings it says "Plug in a device" or something like that. My guess is that I bought them from a Mac user.
My question is: How might I go about converting it from Mac to Windows?
:: I am not sure this is the problem though, this is just a guess ::

I have a similar problem, my iPod Shuffle is being read in my Windows 2000 but in the iTunes it's not being recognized.
When I try to play the iPod, the green and orange lights blink simultaneously.
When I try and double-click on the icon for it in My Computer, it's saying that it can't be accessed because of an I/O device error.
Finally, I come to the site and get the latest update and when I try to update, it's saying that there's an iPod service error.
Hope that generalizes everything of what I'm saying and similar to Niko's problem as well.

  • Shuffle not working on Windows XP laptop

I'm going to sound like a broken record given the other posts already here, but here it goes....
My new shuffle is not recognized by my laptop (Win XP, SP2). I have attempted to use fixes outlined by Apple (as pointed out in other posts such as reseting the shuffle, restarting my laptop, changing power save modes, etc.) I have also attempted to fix the problem using Apple info specific to Toshiba laptops (disable USB hardware labeled as enhanced or high speed, restart, try plugging in) and no luck.
I have also tried fixes found by other users to get the job done. However, my shuffle does not show up under disk management and no other fixes worked (stopping, starting, restarting services, among others).
I have updated to iTunes 5 and have the latest iPod updater ready to go, neither sees the shuffle. When I reboot my shuffle will appear as an unknown USB device, but I can't do anything with it.
All other times, my shuffle will produce a message from the system tray saying there was trouble installing new hardware (this is 99% of the time). Then it just sits there flashing amber. I like that color, but I was really hoping the shuffle would do more than blink (as in play music). Thanks to anyone who can tell me what is happening.

When I installed iTunes 5, I uninstalled the previous iTunes and quicktime before doing so to make it a fresh install. I have also tried disabling my antivirus and firewall (both Norton).
I even tried using msconfig to disable anything that didn't belong to microsoft or apple in the services and startup programs with no luck.
I have zero devices hooked up to my laptop via USB right now. The only thing I hook up using USB is my camera and that's only when I have pictures to upload. At first I was connecting the shuffle directly into the ports on my laptop (one on the side, two on the back, I've tried all of them). The laptop does not prevent my shuffle from plugging in, but I did end up buying a shuffle dock to make sure. This made no difference.
I do have a wireless b card plugged into my PCMCIA slot. I have tried doing things without this plugged in and no difference.
I should have mentioned before, but forgot, I already had iTunes and used my laptop with an older 15GB iPod. This has always worked, but I always used firewire to transfer music.

  • My Iphone does not want to charge with laptop. What can I do?

    Hello,
Last August I bought Iphone 4S and i am currently in another country for the summer and I wont be back until september which meqns my 1 year waranty is over and my Iphone is expreincing problems with speker sound and it wont charge with laptop. I am afraid that if I go to a local apple store they wont accept the Iphone due to the waranty. So what can I do? please help and thank you.

Does the iPhone charge when connected to the power adaptor?
Are you connecting the iPhone direct to a USB port on the computer - not being connected to a USB hub of any kind?
The local Apple Store can and will run a hardware diagnostic on the iPhone to determine if this is caused by a hardware problem at no charge regardless if the iPhone is no longer under warranty and purchased in another country.

  • My iphone and ipod are not longer being charged by the pc

    Clean the dock connectors.
    Try a different sync cable.
    Try a different USB port.

  • IPod Shuffle (1st gen) is not longer recognized by computer or iTunes

I have had no problems with my iPod until this morning. I have the latest version of iTunes and recharge my battery pretty regularly on the shuffle. However, this morning my iPod isn't showing up in iTunes or on my USB port. It's not even charging. I tried 4 out of the 5 R's, but can't do the last because the iPod icon isn't showing up. It still plays songs with the battery life left.
Checked the USB port, and it's working fine. Battery light on shuffle is now red. What do I do?
    Dell Inspiron 6000   Windows XP

    Hi hmacross,
I tried one of the options in the link you provided, 'iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB'. It didn't work but now my Shuffle is flashing orange as it does when it is charging on my XP machine. So at least we have power to it I think.
I still have do detection in Windows Explorer, Device Manager or iTunes however.
All the other options I have already tried.
    Still scratching my head lol.
Thanks for you help anyway. Got any other ideas?

  • IPhone not recognized/charging from laptop

I just tried to connect my iPhone so I could dump my video via Image Capture to my laptop & my iPhone will not charge when connected or recognized my iTunes or Image Capture.
I know both USBs are working because i hooked an external drive to my aptop and it was recognized right away.
Any ideas why this is happening & how to fix?

A few thoughts, in no particular order of things you can try:
Do you have the most current version of iTunes (8.2) ?? It's required for the 3GS.
Try resetting your iPhone, then try syncing again. Reboot your computer, try syncing again.
Try doing an SMC reset (google your mac model and how to do an SMC reset) and perhaps a PRAM reset as well.
Reset your iSync -- it's in your Application folder -- go into iSync, Preferences, click on "Reset Sync History" let it do it's thing, then close out of iSync and try syncing again.

  • My Shuffle no longer recognized in Windows

I am having trouble with my 1 GB shuffle. It had been working rather well for several months but now it is not recognized by XP Pro or iTunes. It does however get charged when I connect it to the USB port. Also, the USB subsytem on my computer does work since I can connect my camera to it with no problems. I have worked my way thru this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
and nothing has worked so far.
Restoring the iPod software doesn't work because the computer (and thus the iPod Updater) doesn't see that the device is plugged in.
I am now on the last step of the original document which is reinstalling the iPod software for Windows:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61669
I put that disc in my computer and it wants to uninstall the iPod software. I am concerned that this will delete my purchased muic, podcasts and my podcast subscriptions. Will this stuff all be imported safely when I uninstall it and then reinstall it?
Also, any help people can offer on why my shuffle isn't being recognized would also be great too.

I too have fell victim to your situations. I have not done any changes either. This stopped working a couple days ago. I have music on the shuffle and it plays fine. As soon as I plug it into either of my 4 PCs, Windows does not detect the shuffle. Every single one of them detects my jump drive as well as digital camera. I know that I don't have all four of my systems to auto update in Windows so I don't think that has anything to do with it. Also, I left my headphones in the shuffle as I plug it into any of the PCs and my music stops playing. Which is an indicator that the shuffle detects something connecting to it; my PCs fail to. It's all strange....

  • New 4th Gen Shuffle not holding a charge

I am kind of at a loss. My son got a shuffle for his birthday. I charged it for a while and finally figured out how to download just a single playlist from my itunes for him. It played and showed that it was charged. I let it sit unplugged and unused for 24 hours and now it is completely dead. Any idea what is going on?

As long as the computer is on while the shuffle is connected, it should charge. Once I have let it charge fully (I usually leave it on while I am at the computer - so a few hours) it can hold a charge for a long time. I have been able to leave it idle for the weekend and see no drop in battery life.
If you are finding that the battery is full and then you can just leave it alone overnight and the batter is dead (assuming it was not playing during that time), then you should call apple support of visit the apple store.

  • 4100n printer is no longer recognized by my laptop when i plug it in

I have an HP 4100n black ink printer and it has stopped working for no apparent reason. When I plug it in to my laptop it will not recognise the USB device. I have not changed the drivers at all. My laptop’s OS is Vista.  I have tried reloading the drivers but  no matter what, when I plug in the printer it will not recognize what has been plugged in. Please assist. Thank you.

Let's get that access granted again, e_rock_b. The HTC DNA doesn't have a special USB Mass Storage Mode that needs to be turned on. Usually, it's as simple as connecting and browsing http://vz.to/1jktbZD as you mentioned. If your computer is no longer allowing that easy access, try the steps at http://vz.to/1jktvr6.
