Shuffle not recognised as an iPod by Windows + not recognised by iTunes???

Hi,
My daughter was bought an iPod Shuffle for her birthday by a friend. When I first went to plug it in, it didn't sync with iTunes (which I use successfully with my own iPod Classic) but instead showed up as 'mp3' on my list on My Computer and prompted me to open as if it were jusu a memory stick.
I was able to transfer songs directly across into the folder, but then found that it didn't play m4a's copied from CD, or m4p's bought from the iTunes Store by my daughter!
And then, to top it all off, when I plug it in to charge the green light flashes briefly then goes out, and doesn't seem to charge!
It was bought from a supposedly reputable eBay seller by a friend, but came in a 2 Gb box even though it's only a 1 Gb one, plus didn't have a dock with it, only a USB to phono cable. Now I don't know if it's just the wrong cable or something else wrong, but I've tried everything I can find on these forums and on the Apple website to no avail and it's driving me crazy!
Can anybody help before we try to enter into a dispute with the seller?
Thanks,
Andy

IF it plays mp3s that are directly loaded to it without using iTunes to manage it, it's a knock-off clone of the shuffle (eg FAKE)... the other clue that it isn't a shuffle is the USB cable. Shuffles come with a dock with cable attached.
Also, is the on-off switch next to the earphone jack as in this image:

my 2nd generation shuffle not appearing in itunes.  What can I do?

If you have not done so already, first try using a different USB port that is directly on the computer (not a hub).
If that does not help, I would shut down (completely power off) your computer.  Disconnect the shuffle and do this reset procedure
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up your computer.  Run iTunes.  Try connecting the shuffle again.

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized in iTunes

When I connect my iPod shuffle to my computer, it is recognized as a device (I can safely remove it under "safely remove hardware") yet it is not recognized as a drive. Also, it is not recognized by iTunes and therefore does not appear on the source list.
I am not having any of these problems with my iPod nano which I have tested after having the problems with the shuffle - I have the most current version of iTunes loaded and I am connecting the ipod through a high-speed USB port.
I am unable to restore the ipod software because it does not appear in my iTunes. Currently all of the songs I had on the shuffle the last time I was able to successfully connect it are still there so the shuffle isn't broken completely.
I have read through all of the applicable troubleshooting documents and none seem to specifically apply to my situation (i.e. it is being recognized by the computer as being connected but not as a storage device, etc...)
What should I do? Please help!
    Thank you!
    IBM   Windows XP

Not sure exactly what you mean but here's a shot.
    - Connect shuffle to computer, "safely remove hardware" icon in system tray has it under "USB Mass Storage Device"
    - When I double click on "USB Mass Storage Device" there is an option to stop "Apple iPod USB Device"
I only know this b/c that's the only way I can disconnect it safely since I can't eject it from iTunes.
What I meant by it not being recognized as a drive is that when I connect my other ipod, it brings up a window for "drive E" in windows explorer as well as populates the nano in the source list within iTunes. This does not happen with my shuffle.
    Does that make sense?

  • HT201605 ipod shuffle not recognized by itunes

  • Shuffle not appearing in itunes

i got a 2nd gen shuffle ive had since february and its only had a couple problems where i had trouble getting songs onto it but for about the past two weeks every time i plug it into the usb it blinks a green light then orange three times, then stops and doesnt show up in itunes or in my computer. my operating system is windows xp, i dont know if that makes a difference but if anyone can help id appreciate it

i got the same question --
i wonder why i bought this ipod ???
    - this iTunes software is just not acceptable / does not allow to do the basic things / need to browse forums and hint&tips / these do however not work
    - this iTunes software is only good for buying in Apples store and supporting their business
    - Apple has ruined their reputation, i will not buy any of their highly intuitive and user-friendly products

  • Shuffle not working with iTunes Match when 3G is not enabled and the track playing is not the one showing (previous one)

When I use Music on m iPhone on 3G with the downlod disabled on 3G, shuffle is not working.
It stops after each track, as if it was not capable to find the next local track.
Morevoer, it plays a track and show another one. It seems it plays the previous track but show the following.
This makes my iPhone not usable with iTunes Match unless I disable show tracks from iCloud.

    Hi Bhushan,
Isuse is with IIS Process. Whether its running on 32bit or 64bit. that's the one who decide which dll they want. So, in above the resolution is
If you are working with 32 bit you can use
    string folder = Path.Combine(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.System), @"..\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727");
while the other way for 64 bit IIS Process, you will require
    string folder = Path.Combine(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.System), @"..\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727");
Hope this answer will helps some other developers issue.

  • Shuffle not persistent in iTunes 7

So in iTunes 6, I could have my shuffle remain in the list even when ejected. This was really nice, as I could update my list so the next time I plugged in the shuffle all the settings were ready to go.
Now, in iTunes 7, when I go to eject the shuffle, it is also removed from the devices list. Did this go away for a reason? or is there some hidden way of reenabling the persistent shuffle in the devices list.

found a solution for myself that works....

  • 3rd Generation iPod Shuffle Not Recognized by iTunes 11.1.1

I am trying to have iTunes recognize my iPod Shuffle 3rd generation.  It worked fine until I downloaded iTunes 11.1.1.  I am using OS X version 10.8.5.  Does this latest version of iTunes not work with my shuffle any longer?

It should work fine.  I have a 1st gen shuffle, and it still works...
If you are updating to iTunes 11.x for the first time, iTunes may hide the sidebar initially, which is where the shuffle appears.
If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the shuffle should appear under DEVICES.

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized by iTunes on mac

When i plug in my 4th Gen iPod Shuffle this is the error message I receive:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again.
If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again."
I reloaded iTunes but the problem persists. It works fine on my other Mac using the same cable. I get the Status Light on the Shuffle so the connection and cable are fine.

Apple will not deny the downgrade to OS X 10.10.1 in the App Store. Just make sure your Settings>App Store>Automatically check for updates>Install OS X updates box is unchecked. I did not uncheck mine and last night my MacBook Air was upgraded to 10.10.2 (14C81F), the corrupted update, automatically! I had to downgrade again this morning and Apple again allowed me to downgrade.

  • 1st Gen Ipod Shuffle not updating with iTunes 7.0whatever

My 1st gen. shuffle was doing just fine updating from my iTunes playlist with the older version of iTunes. Then last night I upgraded to 7.0whatever the latest version is and now when I plug in the shuffle to update, I get the usual updating iPod message and then I get the message that it's done...but....nothing has been loaded onto the shuffle.
If I change the playlist for the shuffle to load from, I don't get any little spinning circles next to the song titles and iTunes will freeze up and I'll have to end the program from Task Manager.
I've restored the shuffle to it's original factory settings (even using the special restore program), I've uninstalled and restarted and reinstalled iTunes. I've deleted the temp directory, restarted, reinstalled iTunes. No luck.
The shuffle does work though on an older computer that has an older version of iTunes.
What's in the new version of iTunes that's not agreeing with Win XP and how do I fix it?
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I have that problem too. My shuffle holds about 125 songs or so, yet I've noticed there are always a good 20 or so songs that won't play, no matter how many times I load them onto the device. I have had that problem since I inherited it from a friend.
My new problem is that every time I plug my iPod into iTunes, it no longer updates the playcount for songs. In other words, if I load a song that I've heard 3 times, hear it twice during the day, and replug in my iPod at night, it used to update that song's playcount in the library to 5, but now they still read 3. It's also failing to update the "date last played" field.
I use those to help make sure that I don't load the same songs over and over again by creating a custom playlist that will comb out songs played in the last few days and have a very high play count. Since these are no longer updating, I've noticed that I keep arriving at work only to find my iPod has the same or similar songs as the day before, and dude, if I wanted that, I'd listen to the radio!

  • IPod Shuffle Not Seen in iTunes

Okay, this thing was working fine a week ago. Now, when I plug it into the USB port (XP), iTunes starts, and Windows Explorer pops open showing the device. However, it does not appear as a device in iTunes.
    I have:
    reinstalled iTunes
    Deleted the Temp folder
    Booted using msconfig
    Changed the drive letter
    All to no result.
    Help!

....forgot to mention that the iPod itself works fine.
