Shuffle not recognized and can't restore
I recently "Up"grade to itunes 7.0. Now my shuffle is not recognized and it's telling me to restore. When I try to restore it's telling me the software is not found. When I go to the apple site to download the software it tells me the ipod resource was not found. Any thoughts...

I have always had this problem it has never ever synched. I feel i have wasted my money. I have to bother some one else if I want to change the songs. Kinda pointless. There is something to be said about the old days of popping a tape in recording music and poping it straight in ur walkman w out all the bs and sometimes I still do. I dont need all the bells & whistles of Music videos & all the other "benefits" they offer. If they really are "cool" this would be a non issue. Half the time my computer won't open programs. If I had wanted something that requires so much babysitting I would have bought a pc for a quarter of the price and w out the slick marketing campaign and i dont care if it is an ipod or any mp3 player, I just want it to function w out the BS. I dont care what it is called as long as it works w out the bs. I need functionality. When music was about music and nothing else. Thanks. I recieved a notice from Tekserve, the only Apple retailer in NYC until last year, saying "Sorry for the short notice, but you have 2 weeks to register for Applecare and it will cost you $150" At the time I did not have the money or time. So far I feel Mac is for middle class & rich people w alot of time & money to spare. I slaved in restaurants to buy this pc etc not to mention lost my job because my work was forced to close because of 9/11, used my savings and had to start again, and it has added up to a glorified internet connection.

IPod Not Recognized and Can't Restore

Since I installed Tiger, my iPod is not recognized by iTunes--I get an error message saying the iPod is there, but iTunes can't identify it and to install the Optional Support Software that came with Tiger. I have installed the optional software, but the same error keeps appearing. Since I can't get the iPod in the source list, I can't restore it to start again. I have the latest version of iTunes. Can anyone help?

I posted this question initially and have managed to resolve my problem. What I realized is that my iPod problem did not seem to be related to the iPod, but rather to the USB port. I did everything everyone suggested, including resetting, changing USB ports; however, my keyboard and mouse still worked. Then I realized that my external drives were not being recognized, so I restarted the machine with the drive in the port and they were recognized. I then tried the same with my iPod and it worked--first, I was able to update the software, and then I restarted again and the device was recognized and synced.
I'm not sure why the USB port will not recognize the iPod or drives unless the computer restarts, but it's worth trying to see if this resolves anyone else's problem.

iPhone 3G plugged into PC(Windows 7) 'USB is Not Recognized' and unable to restore; stuck on 'Connect to iTunes'
I was in the process of putting another firmware for my iPhone(an .ipsw via. itunes) and the house had a power cut. The computer was in the middle of restoring the iPhone but never finished. The apple logo came on and then came onto the 'connect to itunes' screen. My sim card was in but there is no option to slide for emergency. When I Plug it into my computer, a message pops up saying that the 'USB Device Not Recognized', I've tried to plugging my iPhone into my laptop and other Computers but the same message occurs (all windows 7). Other articles say that the error is with the iPhone, I need help!! Can anybody offer some advice on what to do?

When I connect my iPhone5 to my PC it is not being recognized as in the past and wants to restore factory default settings. I don't want to lose photo and video files stored in the phone but I cant transfer them to my PC either - help.

iphone 3gs shows activation required, hooked up to iTunes and it is not recognized. Did the restore but just gets to the end and gives an error message it could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (-1). Can someone assist me in next steps please?
Instructions to get the phone back working temporary.. till there is a real fix.
1. turn off the phone
2. fire up iTunes
3. press and hold the home button, plug in the cable, hold till you get to see the recovery mode
4. iTunes will the allow to choose restore the phone back to 5.0.1 ( no other choice)
5. iTunes will then ask you to choose which previous backup to would like to recover.
(note: please do not reboot your phone unless necessary, i realize at times after reboot, it goes back to sq1) -
I have an Iphone 5S and used to sync it to my computer in the past without any problem, but now I can't, and appears the message "usb device not recognized", and the cable is good and so the USB port. Do you have any idea what's the problem?
Try leaving it plugged in and then restart the computer.

Brand new Shuffle - not recognized in Windows or iTunes
I just got an iPod Shuffle 1Gb for Christmas (today). Followed all the instructions installing software, etc. Plug in the iPod - the light on the front flashes orange. Does not show up in My Computer, Device Manager or iTunes.
Uninstalled iPod and iTunes software, rebooted, installed latest iPod and iTunes software downloaded from website. iPod still not recognized and still flashes orange when plugged in to a USB port. Tried several different USB ports - no change.
Rebooted again (more than once).
iPod is fully charged.
iPod has been reset.
I can't restore it, because even the iPod software doesn't recognize it.
My USB ports are fine - digital camera and external USB hard drive still work when plugged in to the various ports. Unplugged all other USB devices and iPod still wasn't recognized.
All my friends love their iPods. This is my first one. I have to say... I'm not impressed.
As I said, this was a gift, so I don't have a receipt for it, and there isn't an Apple store near me. And I think having to pay $30 to send it back to Apple so they'll replace it with a "new, used or refurbished" iPod is bullsh*t.I had the same problem today.
What I found is that during the install routine, the Shuffle was not formatted. I went through Windows Explorer (right click on "Start" and choose "explore"). My computer found the shuffle as a removable media, but when I tried accessing it (clicking on the drive while in explorer), I got a message saying that it wasn't formatted. So, I said yes to the prompt to format it and as soon as it did, iTunes saw it and started the rest of the install routine. I had to restart and replug in the device, and it seems to be working great.
I don't know if this will help you out, but it is worth a try.

Ipod shuffle not recognized in windows 7
I bought a new 2gb ipod shuffle 4th gen on friday, as my 120gb classic was stolen, and i have been having massive problems with it. Whenever I attach it to the USB port (tried in all 4) it only comes up with a box in the bottom right of windows saying "USB Device Not Recognized", and then nothing at all happens in itunes (which is up to date). To say I have taken it out of the USB port and put it back in 200 times would not be an exaggeration. After about 10 minutes, it was suddenly recognized and I managed to put a few songs from my itunes onto it, but then it got disconnected, and it was never recognized by the computer again. As I only managed to put a fraction of the songs I want on it, it is annoying that it won't work.
The ipod shuffle plays completely fine, I can listen to the songs I DID manage to put on it. I have also tried everything on another computer with itunes and the same thing happened. Every other USB device I own has worked on it, and I have unplugged everything to see if or not it conflicts, and it makes no difference with the shuffle. As the shuffle plays fine, I can only imagine it being a problem with the cable, but for a brief time it worked in itunes perfectly, so I am unsure.
Any help would be massively appreciated. but at this rate I will be taking it back to argos.

Itouch - USB device not recognized and Itouch now no longer works
I'm now on my 3rd Itouch since December all due to the same problem. All seemed to be going well with my 3rd replacement Itouch. Having loaded most of my cd collection into ITunes the night before I was going on holiday I synced my Itouch. Some sort of automatic download took place I think from Microsoft and suggested my drivers were being updated. Next thing I got message to restore my Itouch to factory settings. I did this and all the problems I had with my previou Itouch's started again.
When I now plug my Itouch into my laptop it says "USB device not recognized" and the Itouch will not switch on. I've done everything including reinstalling Itunes, holding down the power and home key but to no avail. Looks like I'm going to have to send my Itouch back again. I have a suspicion that a Microsoft download is corrupting the drivers. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. I really like my Itouch but the fact it keeps failing leads me to wonder if I should opt for something else.I had success with the holding down the keys and connecting to usb and using itunes to restore firmware like they show here

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Restore your media from the backup of the computer created prior to restoring the computer.
You did create a backup, correct? Not doing so would be extremely unintelligent.
