Shuffle Playlist songs only

Hey I have an 80gb video, and i love it
but im dissapointed with apple for having very little instructions on how to use it (i've figured most of it out now) but i just made a playlist after four months and im a little mad. for one reason and that is because the songs dont shuffle, but then when i go into the settings and turn shuffle songs only on it shuffles the playlist but also all of my songs and albums (which is really stupid, there should be a shuffle playlist setting) unless there is something else i can do, help is appreciated

Shuffle Songs from the main menu will shuffle everything.
If you select Settings -> Shuffle - songs, whatever you select will be shuffled.
If you do not want to shuffle a selection, you must set Settings -> Shuffle to Off.
There is no shuffle setting for playlist by playlist basis.

  • Shuffling playlist songs

I recently created a new playlist of my holiday songs. For some reason I am unable to get the songs in that particular playlist to shuffle in either itunes or on my ipod classic. I even recreated it as a smart playlist and they still won't shuffle. I can get the songs in my other playlists to shuffle (both itune created lists and my lists). I don't know what I am doing wrong.

    Hello adlibb58,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
    To shuffle a playlist:
Go to Settings -> Shuffle and select to shuffle "By songs" Then choose a song from the playlist and you should be good to go.
If the other playlists are working as normal, make sure you are following the exact steps as you did for them to try and shuffle the songs in your holiday playlist.

  • Shuffle/Not Shuffle Playlist Songs

Is there any way to have a specific playlist NOT shuffle it's songs, but still have other playlists shuffle ?

You cannot set them independently, as in iTunes.
You have to turn off Settings - Shuffle and then play the playlist.

  • How come I can't add a song to my playlists in itunes match? Is it me or itunes match? It keeps on coming up with a message " iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library. If you continue, the playlist will be removed from iCloud

How come I can't add a song to my playlists in itunes match? Is it me or itunes match? It keeps on coming up with a message " iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library. If you continue, the playlist will be removed from iCloud and will only be available on this computer"?
You must surely be able to add and subtract songs on specific playlist?

I fixed this issue (with help from tech support) and it involved several things.
After adding a song to iTunes, right-click on the song in iTunes and select "Update iTunes Match."
OR go to the iTunes menu-->Store-->Update iTunes Match.
Maybe that's the reason, it just hadn't updated to the cloud.
OR maybe it's not a high-enough bitrate file.   This happens to me because most of my tunes are home-recorded.
Sometimes converting to .mp3 or Create AAC version might work. (You do this with a right-click in iTunes, and then you will want to remove the original file from iTunes.)
There is an iTunes Preferences setting, under General Preferences called Import Settings.  Try setting it to AAC Encoder and iTunes Plus.   That (I think) causes imports to be slightly better quality.
Good luck!  The tech support person at Apple is requesting that a knowlege-base article be written about this.

I'm sorry to see that no one has answered this. I'm hoping Apple with reply to my support request, as I'm having the same issue. I really don't want to continue with iCloud at this point.

It does not look like this is possible with iTunes 11 (or 11.0.1).

  • Songs only in a playlist?

Is there any way to have songs only appear in a playlist and not in my library and my playlist? I have some Spanish audio CD's I wanna put on my iPod but I don't want them mixed in with my music and I'd prefer to have them in their own playlist so I can listen to them. Any help would be appreciated.

It has to be in the main library to show up on a playlist or go on your ipod, but you can keep those tracks out of the music section.
When you import those Spanish CDs you can select all the tracks, right-click > Get Info.
Say yes to changing multiple items. Go to the Options tab and set them to Audiobooks. That way they will not be marked as music. You can still make a playlist of them for you ipod.

  • Shuffle playlist will skip every song in the playlist.

If shuffle is checked before attempting to play a song, the whole playlist will be skipped, song by song, although the list does re-arrange itself as a shuffle playlist. If I play a song and then check shuffle, the song will continue to play thorough, but all subsequent songs will be skipped. It will play the last possible song when that point is reached. I have not found a single comment about this particular problem online, and I have been searching for days. I am using a Mac mini as a music server and running OS 10.6.8. The version of iTunes on that computer is 10.5.2. I have no plans to update iTunes on this computer. I have repaired permissions and run DiskWarrior. No songs have "skip shuffle" checked.
I also have a new iMac running Mavericks with iTunes 12.0.1, and playlists have no problem shuffling on that machine, nor do they have problems on my iPhone, iPad or iPod.

    Ginger,
Make sure that all the songs have a checkmark.  iTunes will not automatically advance to an unchecked song.
If you do not see the checkboxes, go to Preferences > General and enable Show List Checkboxes.

  • Shuffle Playlist after selecting a song?

Is there any way to have a playlist shuffle after selecting a song from the playlist without having to select shuffle playlist after the song plays?

Have you checked to make sure the Shuffle setting has not been enabled in Settings?  If so, try a hard reset to see if that helps as well. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Add songs only to playlist

Is there a way I can add songs only to a playlist and not to thye itunes library? I want to make a playlist for my mom,but I don't want her songs on while I am listening.
    Will someone please help me?

If you put it in the library and then delete it, the title will still be in the playlist but it will simply have an ! at the front meaning iTunes cannot locate the song.
I want to make a playlist for my mom,but I don't want her songs on while I am listening
Do you mean that you have you music and your Mom's music in the library and you do not want to listen to her music?
Create a new playlist (File -> New playlist).
Drag the songs you like form the library to this new playlist.
Click on this playlist and press Play to play only the music on this playlist.
Do the same for your Mom's music.

  • Copying playlist to shuffle changes song order

I wish to listen to Podcasts and Music in a particular order. I click the arrowhead above the first column and set my shuffle not to shuffle playlist. Each time I remove the shuffle from dock, it resets the podcasts first and music second. When I reattach to the dock, it shows how it's reset them. An old post said that when he upgraded to 7.3 it fixed it. I use iTunes 7.6, so the problem is back

Apple broke manual ordering of tracks in iPod Shuffle software version 1.0.4 and no one has discovered a reliable workaround yet (that doesn’t require third-party software). You can report this bug at:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodshuffle.html
Who knows if anyone at Apple actually reads that feedback, but perhaps if enough people report this bug, they’ll fix it sooner rather than later.

  • 60 Gig Photo, will only shuffle all songs, want to shuffle by genre

I have a 60 Gig Photo, and I can sort by genre, and I can set it to repeat by genre, but if I push shuffle it immediatley starts shuffling all songs, not just the genre I selected. Also, if I do this in reverse order, it does not work either.
    Any hints?
    Thanks,
    Sam

I'm not quite clear on this. You want to shuffle all the songs within a particular genre, right?
If so, go to settings/shuffle and set it to songs. Then select your preferred genre and press play. All the songs within that genre will be played back in shuffle mode.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12 repeat and shuffle bars are blue - what could be wrong

my ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12, and the music stops all together, does not go to next song - I am playing my ipod on my Bose system  -  the repeat and shuffle bars remain blue - it only occurs on this particular playlist -Note:  I created this playlist on my ipad - the first ipad out - with icloud it is on my ipod as well -  I am totally baffled - and have checked settings, etc - do you think i need to connect to computer to sync?  Please help

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?

  • HOW DO I CREATE A 30GB SHUFFLE PLAYLIST FROM ITUNES LIBRARY TO FILL MY IPOD

is it possible to generate a playlist lets call it, that is like a shuffle playlist but able to fill an ipod? where would i find the command like, " fill ipod randomly from itunes library"? wouldn't it be great !! just hook up the pod and have it filled with random songs from your library. every day you could have a new playlist, but a really big and different one.
    g4 power mac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Just create a new Smart playlist.
Limit it to 27.5GB at Random.
Also, set it to My rating is not One Star.
Rate songs you do not want on the iPod to One star.
Connect the iPod & select it as the Source.
Go to the Music tab and set to Sync only this playlist.
To change the music, select this playlist in iTunes.
Select all songs and press Delete. It will fill up again at random.

  • Auto Create Shuffled Playlist?

I've just bought an iPod Shuffle (3G) and love it, and I like how when I tell it to sync my entire music library (60GB) it automatically picks 4GB of music at random and adds it to a shuffled playlist which it then syncs. Unfortunately, I deleted the 'auto shuffled' playlist when adding some other playlists I'd created. Now I want to fill up the remaining space with songs picked at random - is there any way to have iTunes re-create one of these auto shuffled playlists? Or do I just have to grab a selection from my library and drag it across?

iTunes has taken to building playlists (and starting to play them) from any .m3u files it finds while importing media folders. It isn't clear yet whether this behavior is supposed to be a new "feature" or has been accidentally introduced, but importing folders that contain .m3u files may not give the results you are used to.
iTunes Folder Watch would work well if your current workflow is to have iTunes scan the media folder for new files, since it only adds the file types you want it to. However if you are specifically adding individual folders then, at least for now, you probably need to remove or edit the extention of .m3u files before importing.
On the other hand, if you don't need the playlist files then throw them away. Use the search tool in Windows Explorer to find files of the form *.m3u in your media folders, select them all with Ctrl-A and then delete.
