Shuffle power surge ?

I bought a shuffle to mess around with,after leaving it to charge for 4 hours, it is not recognized by my PC, and I am getting the message 'power surge on hub port - A USB device has exceeded the power limits of its port hub, click to reset' Net result is the ipod is not recognized either by my PC or itunes anyone seen this one before, and is there anything I can do?

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.

IPod Shuffle (2nd Gen) ruined onboard USB hub (Power surge on hub port)

A user that I support fried his onboard USB hub on his laptop by plugging in his new iPod shuffle. Before doing this, everything else worked, but now, no USB devices will work.
When he tries to plug in his wireless keyboard/mouse receiver, it says "Power surge on hub port" as a popup balloon (this is Windows XP Pro) above the system tray. When he clicks on it, it says:
"A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.
(The location of the device is shown in bold type)
To reenable the port, disconnect the hardware and click Reset. If you click close, the port will no longer function."
Options: Reset, Close
Neither resetting the port nor rebooting the computer will resolve this problem. Most USB devices are not recognized at all (Windows does not respond to them and they are shown as Unknown Devices in the Device Manager).
This affects not only the USB port that the iPod Shuffle was initially connected to, but all the USB ports on the computer.
From everything that I can tell, the USB hub built into the motherboard is fried and needs to be replaced.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is this something that Apple will admit to and pay for?

I called Applecare and they claim that an iPod Shuffle could not have done this because it never sends power over USB, but only charges. They said to contact the manufacturer of the computer.
I am not convinced of this claim, however. Possible defects in the product could still cause this, such as it creating a short circuit and having power channel from the USB hub back into itself.
This is just off the top of my head, but can any of you think of another explanation?
The timing of everything working before the iPod Shuffle was connected and nothing working after it was connected lays the blame squarely upon the iPod Shuffle. If there had been an issue with the motherboard or its USB hub, it would have shown up before; other USB devices that draw significant power never triggered such a hypothetical defect.
If anybody has another idea how the iPod Shuffle could have done this or knows of a way to convince Apple to take this seriously, please let me know.

Computer Crash, Power Surge USB

Downloaded 7.0.2 and iPod Shuffle Update, then put in my new iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation - worked at first, but next time I tried to plug in the USB port, the whole computer crashed. Tried it on another computer with Windows XP and got message that USB port was experiencing Power Surge.
Now every time I try to plug in my new iPod Shuffle, my computer shuts off completely.

I think you know the answer already... take it back to the store (an Apple Store, if close buy) and get a replacement. Your dock or the Shuffle's charging circuit has a short in it.

Won't let me copy to hard drive post power surge

Ok, to make a long story short, I hope, I had an electrical fire (everyone's ok) that involved and destroyed my laptop's power cord and as part of that fun I seem to have had a power surge that has reset some of the defaults on my computer but not all. Some of the folders I created prior to the surge are gone, etc. The only real problem is that the permissions on my internal hard drive seem to have been reset. Below are the things it will and will not allow me to do.
-- I cannot copy files from a flash drive, cd or external hard drive to the internal hard drive. I get that circle with a line through it. Clicking and dragging, copy/paste, nothing works.
-- I can move stuff that is already on the internal hard drive from folder to folder.
-- I can save email attachments to the internal hard drive.
-- I can copy stuff from internal the hard drive to a flash drive, cd or external hard drive.
-- I can read the files on flash drives, cds or external hard drives, such as a movie file, just fine, they run without a glitch. The peripherals did not suffer any resets as a result of the fire/power surge. When it happened the computer shut down automatically and I think that saved the accessories from being damaged because the computer is the only thing that showed any changes after it happened.
And before someone asks, yes, I checked, I have 40 GB of HD space so it's not a space issue.
I right clicked on MAC HD and did the Get Info and looked at the details of the permissions on various files and tried shifting some of those around but even though it says Read and Write it still won't let me copy to the internal drive from other sources. Interestingly when I got to the User file it was marked Read Only but changing it to Read Write didn't help. Something I did once worked but then it stopped working so I have no idea what it was. I put everything back the way it was. Could somebody please help me? My computer is old and dieing a slow painful death but if I can make it last a little longer that will make my life so much easier. Please let me know if you need any system info or anything.

It's not a dumb question, cause if it is then my answer is really stupid, what's a repair permission? lol I don't know what that is so I guess the answer is no, though I can guess from the name it's a program to fix permissions if the files get messed up? I knew how to change the permissions in Get Info but past that I was getting into things I don't know so I figured it was time to ask for help or I'd be on here asking how to un-erase a hard drive. jk So how would I do that and is there anything else I should do?

Lightroom will attempt to fix the next time it launches. I have shut my system down and Lightroom still will not launch. Does anyone have any suggestions?

delete your preview cache (.lrdata folder).

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g power surge

Had a power surge on the printer due to a storm. Now the printer won't power up. Tried plugging it in a different electrical outlet, but it still won't power up. Is there a way to reset the internal power supply since I assume there is some type of surge protection on the printer?

Is your device recognized by your computer? If yes, copy the pictures and videos as shown in this article:
Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer
If it is not recognized, try this first: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Disable autosync in iTunes, right click on it in the device list and choose "transfer purchases" to copy apps and other media bought in iTunes to your new library.
Do the same again and choose "backup", to create a manual backup without syncing.
Since your device will be erased due to the new iTunes library during the first sync, you can use this backup afterwards to restore your settings and data.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer before you start, to be able to merge calendars and contacts.

Use of WRT54G after Power Surge

I was very satisfied with my WRT54G v2 until I went on vacation and came back. While on vacation a power surge or lightning struck and wiped out a bunch of things from my garage door opener to office: cable modem (no ethernet port), router (no internet port), old BEFSR41 used as a switch (power supply dead).
After puttering for awhile, the WRT54G has some limited lifesigns.
-- wireless access works fine
-- switch ports work fine
-- Internet port does not work
Question:
-- Is this something that is serviceable?
-- Can it be converted into an access point or something?
Are old power supplys available for BEFSR41? or is it just junk now (even with supply, it could be fried)
A few thoughts would be worthwhile

You can still use the router like a wireless switch. It can be either connected straight to a modem for a single wireless computer or be connected to an existing network that has a router.
All you have to do is connect this router to the modem on any of it's switch ports and same thing if it'll be connected to a switch or a router.

Power surge now nothing but issues.

So I had a power surge (no protector...I know dumb) and my pc restarted. When it came back on it loads the bios. If I leave the bios, it beeps once long and then 2 short and goes to black screen. Everything I read says that it means my video card is shot. Here is what I am running:

AMD A10 680K
So having said that I am running integrated graphics. Does this mean my processor is shot or did I fry something on the mobo? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ok it is sounding like the surge maybe has killed the CPU or fried its memory controller!
one lastage thing to try is a CMOS clear >>Clear CMOS Guide<< remove the power cord and do a clear and leave the battery out for 5 mins and put it back in and see if it works then!

Power surge fried inputs on 55" LG LCD TV

TV was bought from BB, but out of warranty (no extended). It's about 2 years old. The TV turns on, but none of the inputs work. A surge went through my PC hooked up to the TV via HDMI...literally fried the HDMI cable into the port to where I almost couldn't remove it.
What are my options? Are these input boards cheap enough to where repair is viable or am I better off just getting a new TV?

I doubt anyone would buy parts from a TV that has been affected by a power surge.
Bet the cost of a surge protector doesn't seem so bad now?
Sorry your TV got burnt. Buy a surge prottector for the next one, and don't buy the cheapest surge protector you can find...

Power surge

whenever we have a power surger or outage, my printer display shows an hourglass for days at a time. Is there any remedy for getting my printer back on line quickly?

First, it may be a good idea to get the printer (and other sensitive electronics) on a surge protector so you do not have to deal with this issue.
In the mean time, what happens when you simply turn the printer off then on again after these events?

Power surge on hub point

I have a 60GB Ipod colour and use it to save my photos. I have just come back from Athens - which supplies 260v/50Hz power. Now I am back in England (240V/50Hz), I get an error when I plug the Ipod into my Win XP Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop. The error is: Power surge on hub point. There is an instruction to click on the error notice, but the mouse is disabled while this notice is displayed. The Ipod is working fine and is showing all the pics I took in Athens and saved to it, as well as playing the music I downloaded to it before I left for Greece. The Ipod is using the latest V7.0.2 software. I have performed a reset by switching the Hold key, as well as a reboot using the Menu/centre switch. No result. Any ideas, please?

I'm not sure how this worked, but the Ipod is working fine on the port now. I changed to mouse from the hub to the PC, so I could click the notice when it came up, AND I put the Ipod on the charger until the Ipod said CHARGED.
I have plugged the Ipod back into the hub and it's been accepted, with no errors. AND I have access to my pics - thank goodness!
