Shuffle shows as synced by no songs on the shuffle

WHen I plug in my shuffle, it goes through the motions: says it's syncing, then says sync complete...but there are no songs on my shuffle and no songs listed in the "contents." Any ideas for a fix?

Yes, the TV files are the problem, the TV + music libraries exceed the capacity of the iPod, this is why iTunes made that playlist for you. All you will need to do is re-build a playlist or lists, say one music, one TV, with the content you want on your iPod. In your iPod preferences, & I believe it will be the summary tab, ( but I don't have my iPod docked right now), just tell iTunes to sync those 1 or 2 specific playlists to the iPod. This should fix you right up, but please post back if you have any questions.

After I've heard an audiobook downloaded from the public library, how do I delete it from the Shuffle to make room for other audiobooks?  When I plug it into my computer, I get a screen showing how much space is left on the Shuffle but no list of files that I can delete.  These books, incidentally do not appear in the ITunes screen.  WRA

Select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  If this is a current 4th (or 3rd) gen iPod shuffle, you should be able to see the contents of the shuffle by type, intented under the shuffle's name (still in the sidebar).  Select Music or Audiobooks (not sure where those items from the library will be listed).  The items will be listed to the right, for each category.  Find the items, select, and delete.
It's on page 20 of the manual
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_shuffle_4thgen_User_Guide.pdf
NOTE:  If this is an 1st or 2nd gen iPod shuffle, select the iPod shuffle in the iTunes sidebar (under DEVICES).  Over to the right, go to the Contents tab, where the items are listed.  Select and delete them from this list.
I find it more convenient to make a playlist in iTunes with things I want to put on the shuffle.  I then set up automatic syncing (or use autofill) to have iTunes load the shuffle from that playlist, automatically.

  • Seeing songs on the shuffle

According to the shuffle support page, you can't use iTunes to see the songs on your shuffle. Yet the user guide says that in order to delete songs, you need to select them and delete them. How am I supposed to do this? When I use iTunes and click on my iPod, it only shows me a list of recently added songs - not all songs on the shuffle. How can I view all songs on my shuffle?

ITunes should show you all the songs on your shuffle. What the support page is trying to say is that the shuffle list in iTunes is not directly showing the actual contents, but rather a specialized playlist of songs on your computer that 'mirrors' the contents of the shuffle. Delete a song from that list and iTunes will delete it from the shuffle.
If iTunes really isn't listing all the songs that are on your shuffle, I would suggest running the Updater and doing a restore.

When I hook my ipod up to my mac I used to get the Itunes has detected an ipod that appears to be corrupted error message. It would then sync all my song to the ipod but when I ejected it, none of the songs would be on the ipod. Now I hook it up and I get the Mac OS X can't repair the disk error message. Then the spinning colored pinwheel pops up and I can't use iTunes. Please HELP!!!!!!

Sounds like your iPod is broken. Take it to Apple or someone else who repairs iPods and see if you can get it fixed, or get it replaced.

  • I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod

I updated my iPod/iTunes software and now I can't get it to shuffle songs in a playlist; it either shuffles albums in a playlist or songs on the whole iPod, neither of which is what I want to do.  How do I get it to shuffle songs in just one playlist?

The shuffle setting in the main menu will shuffle through the entire library as you have found out.
You need to go to settings>shuffle this will toggle through off/song/album. Once you have set this it will stay the same until you change the setting.
Now when you start playing a song in a playlist the iPod will shuffle through that playlist (or if you select your song through artist then it will shuffle through all the songs for that artist etc)

    Helo utahskierdave,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to delete podcasts from your Apple TV that have already been deleted from iTunes. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the following post and using the troubleshooting steps within.

  • TS3581 CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?

    HELLO TO ALL
ABIGMAC1 HERE! GOOD DAY TO ALL
JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD ANSWER THIS
CAN YOU CONNECT A SHUFFLE (gen4) TO A KENWOOD CAR STEREO USING THE SHUFFLE USB CABLE ?
I CAN USE AN AUX  3.5 TO 3.5 BUT NO WAY TO READ THE LIBRARY. PLEASE HELP ME!
    THANK-YOU

Check the documentation for the car audio system for device compatibility.  A shuffle may not be compatible.
If the car audio system is able to use a regular USB flash drive connected to the USB port, you should just get an 8GB USB flash drive for $5-10, load it with your "car songs" and leave it connected to the car audio system, instead of constantly connecting and disconnecting an iPod.
If the car audio system has an aux. audio input mini-stereo jack, you can get something like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
and connect your shuffle's headphones jack to the car audio system.  You can then use your shuffle to play through the car audio system.

  • Shuffle seems to sync, but no songs appear in Contents

My daughter just got a refurbished 2nd Gen. Shuffle. Our Mac and iTunes recognize it, but everytime we connect it, it goes through 2 seconds of "syncing" (or so it says) but nothing appears in the iPod's content window.
We've tried all the R nonsense (Restart, Restore, bla, bla, bla) MANY times to no avail.
We've also tried manually managing and dragging songs to the iPod, but it won't let us do that either.
It says it's syncing, but nothing shows up. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • 2nd g. shuffle - move order of songs on the shuffle after syncing.

I used to be able to change the order by just moving songs up or down. i can no longer do so. also, when i copy playlists across they come across alphabetically rather than in the order of the playlist. I have tried using "sync" and also "manually mangae" songs - and both seem to have the same problem. The songs copy across in alphabetical order rather than by the NUMBER order I have in the playlist and I am unable to change the order by dragging songs up or down once they are on my shuffle. very frustrating as i cannot effectively create a playlist. thanks in advance for any help.

Since you are putting playlists on the shuffle, it must be 3rd or 4th gen, is that correct?  It also sounds like you have the iPod set to Manually manage music (not automatic syncing), is that correct?
When you select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES, you can drop down the content categories indented under the shuffle.  If you select Music there, I don't think you can change the song order in the list to the right, except by sorting it using one of the column headings.  But, if you select a specific playlist there, you should be able to change the order of the songs on the list to the right.
Also, in a playlist, make sure you have the left-most column heading (the one with the sequential numbers below) selected as the sort order.  If another column, such as Name, is select, it sorts by that column and you can't move the songs around on the list.
Edit:  I see that the title of this topic says 2nd gen.  Sorry about that...  I'll leave the above as is for anyone else reading, and in case your shuffle happens to be 3rd or 4th gen.
With a 2nd (and 1st) gen shuffle, the shuffle itself acts like a playlist.  So when you have the shuffle selected in the iTunes sidebar, on the Contents tab to the right, where the list of songs is shown, make sure the left-most column heading is selected (as I noted above for playlists in general).  If another column, such as Name, is select, it sorts by that column and you can't move the songs around on the list.

  • Can iTunes take songs from the Shuffle and create a new album library.

.. or is it a one way street? if i accept the prompt given:
The iPod "edjshuffle" is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes library and replace all existing songs on this iPod with those from this library? <YES><NO>
... by selecting <YES> I'm afraid I will lose all the songs currently on my iPod Shuffle. But if I say no my Shuffle remains unrecognized by iTunes.
... and yes WindowsXP does recognize my Shuffle as a USB drive.
Can't I simply rename or remove the new library with my old iTunes Music Library??? [tried this and it gave the same prompt.
    HELP!

The iTunes/shuffle synchronization is (mostly) a one way street, and the shuffle can only belong to one computer at a time.

  • When playing a song on ipod touch 4th gen, the display doesn't show the time lenghth of song or the shuffle, repeat options.  Any thoughts??

When I used to play music, the song display showed the album art, the length of the song and how much time was left, it also had a repeat and shuffle option at the bottom of the screen  A couple of days ago, these things disappeared.  Any thoughts??

when the song is playing/on the music player tap the album cover or the middle of the screen and these things should pop up for you. If that doesn't work then i dont know.

  • How can i sync my phone songs to the itunes library?

my old desktop is gone and i bought a new laptop, how can i synchronise my phone songs , photos , videos and contacts to my itunes? now my current itunes is empty and all my data is in my iphone.

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • How to shuffle playlists BEFORE syncing with your device?  The new software doesn't seem to have that feature...

Does anyone know how to shuffle a playlist BEFORE you sync the iPod with iTunes?  With the new software, I don't think iTunes has the option anymore.

The devices that are listed are: 2 under the name of the device that synced incorrectly with mine and then 3 others that are not associated with my itouch. The name of the ipod, before the incorrect sycning is no longer under devices.  It has been replaced with the incorrect one because I can see the serial # of my ipod under the wrong name.
The playlists that are in my itunes library are from an ipod that I used a few times before I took this one over... Which happens to be the ipod that took on the ID of my itouch.
Both of these ipods used to be my kids.. I used my sons a few times and then switched to my daughters.  They each had their names attachted to their particular devices and now it just says my sons, which is the ipod that itunes was connecting to when all this happened. The really strange thing is my son doesnt use his ipod any longer and now uses his phone for music...So, it had been a while since that particular device was even synced to itunes!
    I hope this helps!

  • Lo9st my computer. If I connect my iPod to the new will I lose wht is on the iPod or will it sync and put songs on the new computer

lost my computer. If I connect my iPod to the new computer will I lose what is on the iPod or will it sync ok and transfer the music to the new computer?

Not unless you choose the Erase and Sync option.  However, you won't be able to transfer content from the iPod to iTunes via iTunes or sync any new content to it until you restore the iPod or choose the erase and sync option.  So if you need to get the contents of your iPod moved over to your PC, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different ways to accomplish this.
